ummer has just ended – although perhaps not for everyone – and we’ve already bid goodbye to September, a month that’s been a very busy time for our industry. The yachting boat shows at Cannes, Genoa and Monaco have seen a consolidation in the trends affecting the sector, one that’s still growing. Many interesting new builds and features have made their debut, and we present them here and in the pages of the next THE ONE Yacht & Design.

This is despite the current national and international situation, not a fantastic time socially or for the markets, but we are seeing a consolidation of the yacht market in general, and not just mega and gigayachts but also sail and motor pleasure craft. This positive trend has been apparent for four years now. The rise in raw material costs, down mainly to steeply rising energy prices and a general shortage of these materials, coupled with the inflation eating away at the buying power of potential clients in Italy, Europe and the rest of the world, is not making it any easier for yacht-building yards to operate, as it is forcing prices to rise and extending delivery times. There’s a lot to talk about through our digital platform and on Linkedin, Facebook and Instagram, as the flood of information is constantly growing. With just one click you can access professionals and enthusiasts no matter where they are located. Enjoy your reading!

[ FIVE QUESTIONS TO... ]

GENNARO CANDIDA DE MATTEO AD OF NEXT YACHT GROUP by Désirée Sormani

Yachts can and must become more sustainable. What is the Next Yacht Group doing to make this happen? As is the case in the car sector, environmental regulations will drive the evolution of the product. But we will have a few extra challenges because our yachts will often need 4500 kilowatt. We are working on three areas: weight (the main driver for efficiency), emissions reduction and the use of more sustainable materials. Technologically speaking, boats are evolving and becoming increasingly rich in content and functionality, which almost always means heavier. Our main goal is and will be to make our boats lighter and lighter. We already lead the sector in this but we won’t stop investing in researching new materials and technologies, and in “design-to-weight”. At the same time, we need to reduce emissions (by which I mean modular propulsion, catalysers, hybridisation, more efficient onboard systems). But it is only by replacing hydrocarbons with more eco-friendly fuels that we’ll make the real leap in quality (I, like many others, am a believer in hydrogen). Lastly, the materials will have to be more natural and easily recyclable (already a daily challenge). Where are you focusing in interiors at the moment in design terms? Natural light, as much as possible, in as many places as possible. Big interior and exterior spaces that are versatile and usable in the most flexible way possible at the owner’s request. Our boats already offer higher construction heights and larger beams to create an instant perception of greater volume compared to other vessels of the same size. Also exceptional harmony and connectivity between exteriors and interiors, and simple original solutions that deliver privacy and conviviality, with, for example, ondemand toys and spaces. 14

What other trends is the Next Yacht Group spotting through its brands? What do owners want? Owners don’t want the constraints of stereotypical products. They want genuine freedom in configuring their boat to live the sea as a reflection of their own lifestyle. With our brands’ quality, design and signatures, we offer our owners the opportunity to configure their boat using structural options, via a modular product approach, that is often unconventional in form and content. But always glamorous and with original functional solutions to ensure they enjoy both sun and sea, meting out sportiness and seafaring performance to deliver unique emotions. Do you think bringing designer brands aboard still offers added value? Designer companies, most of which are Italian, are aboard our craft because they are already part of our owners’ lives (in their homes, social and professional contexts) and so become the final and pivotal element in completing their lifestyle aboard. These companies and our development teams are working increasingly closely to make their products more and more nautical too. So where does the Next Yacht Group stand on the market right now? The Next Yacht Group owns the historic brands Maiora, CBI Navi and AB Yachts. Three souls, three distinct product lines. They range from the spaciousness, versatility and brightness of Maiora (and the sportiness of its Exuma line, of course) to CBI Navi’s bespoke tailored designs, not forgetting AB Yachts, the sporty range that delivers the thrill of speed in complete safety with the unique performance that makes us the market leader. The Next Yacht Group is a boutique of excellence and that is exactly what we want to continue to be.

ANDREA LUPI CREATIVE DIRECTOR ANTONIOLUPI by Marta Bernasconi

antoniolupi is a Tuscan company that has been designing and producing bathroom furnishings for the Italian and international markets since 1950. The Lupi family’s corporate decisions are driven by a passion for superb quality and a bespoke approach to production which means the company’s collections are fully personalisable.

16

So what is antoniolupi’s idea of luxury? Over the last decade in particular, bathrooms have become hugely representative and demonstrative. They send out an unconscious message: if we don’t take care of ourselves, we certainly won’t have time for others. A luxurious bathroom to me means an elegant functional environment where you care for yourself in a space that is almost liturgical, silent, harmonious, natural. So it is absolutely a place to live rather than simply pass through. Which materials, shapes and functionalities are you centring your offering around? antoniolupi has been investing in research for years. We’ve been innovating and anticipating trends through leading-edge materials and styles. In 2011, we were the first company to offer hand-basins and shower trays in Corian. We introduced stone in 2003 followed by Cristalplant in 2007 and then Ceramilux. Our research into technology and innovation led to the introduction of Flumood, Cristalmood and the very recent Icemood, all absolutely new generation materials that are compact, eco-friendly, nonporous and non-toxic. What are your icons of your own style now? Sono molti gli oggetti diventati cult per antoniolupi, il primo è There is a whole slew of cult antoniolupi products: the first is definitely the 2001 SLOT sink designed by Nevio Tellatin which is still very popular on the market – we hid the drain and the overflow. Other iconic products are the ceiling-mounted Meteo shower head and the Reflex bathtub in Cristalmood. antoniolupi aboard: what does that mean aesthetically and performance-wise? Just as is the case in the home, bathrooms are the most intimate spaces aboard where we can devote ourselves to looking after our body and our well-being. Regardless of where a bathroom is, antoniolupi always has a contemporary take: a space that is meticulously planned to the last detail in which light, colours and materials all contribute creating a sense of wellbeing, intimacy and comfort. Could you tell us about your latest new products? At the 2022 Salone del Mobile, we presented the results of our R&D into new materials and forms designed over the last two years. Cristalmood and Icemood are materials we created and patented and which we have used to make many of our new products. We brought along two new furniture collections plus the Ofuro bath tub designed by Carlo Colombo, the singlepiece Carrara marble Wave hand basin designed by Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas, a long list of accessories and lights by Brian Sironi and Gumdesign.

40 YACHTS BURNT OR SUNK IN THE SPACE OF JUST 12 MONTHS! WHAT’S GOING ON? by Andrea Pezzini, CEO & Co-Founder of Floating Life

W

hat’s going on? Why so many yacht accidents this summer? I’ll refer back to my previous article, where I made some veiled criticisms of the way CE certification is applied and the lack of a sense of a sense of responsibility, something now forgotten by most yards, to comment on what happened during this summer of mishaps. We’ve read about and seen yachts catch fire or sink slowly under the waves and we’re all wondering why there have been so many such incidents this summer. At one time we’d immediately have put these events down to insurance scams, but those usually involve older yachts with artificially-inflated values. The yachts in question now, though, are new, only a few months old or recently delivered, so obviously the blame lies elsewhere. Technical experts in this field will have a nagging suspicion that there’s something more serious behind it all – it is, in fact, a question of quality. Here we mean quality of construction and in training crews for genuine emergencies. More than a few times I’ve

visited yards, even prestigious ones, and discovered that they are mounting crucial yacht components like sea cocks without enough sealant and fitting gaskets valve types not suitable for this type of use. I’ve also seen examples of lithium ion batteries not stowed correctly, and fan-coils mounted in inaccessible places. Such carelessness can, for example, cause the electronics of the management system to overheat, creating a serious fire risk. However, when I ask the builders to use their common sense and modify these practices without considering the expense, in some cases the arrogant response has been that there was no problem because these practices were in line with the yard’s standards, or that it was really none of my business. Then you read that fourteen yachts have burnt or sunk in the Mediterranean. Well, I prefer going to sea in reliable, well-made craft, as attractive as possible but above all safe, with well-trained crews who are not risking their life for the sake of a few euro out of a total construction price of millions. We’ll talk about crews in my next article...

I’ll stop here for now - I’ve already wasted enough breath!

ictory Design chose the Monaco Yacht Show 2022 for the world première of the spectacular 170ft Bolide, the 50m flagship of the Bolide range which will span models of 60 to 170 feet. “These are true collector’s jewels, not serially but custombuilt: each unit is unique and exclusive. Designed for those who love the thrill of speed, but delivering it in total safety and reducing environmental impact,” declared Brunello Acampora proudly. The Bolide 170 comes in both a light alloy multi-motor diesel version with triple staggered geometry that delivers sprint speeds of up to 50 knots, and a special composite hybrid version with four gas turbines and electric motors, with a top speed of over 70 knots. The Bolide 170’s large open plan spaces create an osmotic relationship with the sea and surrounding world, offering an owner’s suite, four guest cabins and a large crew quarter. Architect Stefano Faggioni has teamed up with the Victory team and has delivered superb Italian design, seaworthiness born of experience and nods to the likes of luxe leather luggage. The aft beach club is huge for a craft of this size too with folding terraces, transformers, and a ‘bord de mer’ swimming pool. The 170 footer’s signatures, however, are fuel economy (it drinks 50% less than a similar craft), reduced emissions and easy handling thanks to its HMI. victory.it

The yacht will offer an exclusive backdrop for both exploration and conviviality whilst also unleashing eye-watering performance. In short, this will be a seamless melding of Pininfarina and De Simoni Yacht Design’s complementary skillsets with nods to both automotive and contemporary architecture bringing a sense of freshness and innovation to the nautical project. Both Simoni and Pininfarina’s Chief Creative Officer expressed their excitement about this new approach to giving owners and yards what they want in today’s world. Exterior Design Frank Laupman, Head of Design at Omega Architects

T

he RIO project started with a client in mind, but CRN eventually developed the yacht for a new owner. RIO features an aft-leaning superstructure on top of the integrated hull and body. This integrated hull and body features a distinctive arch that develops from the main deck overhang, and comes down one deck to the stern on main deck aft. The hull and main deck layer work as a whole and the rest of the higher superstructure looks relatively shorter. This in turn creates the overall impression of elegance. The superstructure of owner’s deck and the wheelhouse deck above are placed relatively aft, because her owner wanted to have more of an elongated bow. This elongated bow with a raised and flush deck forward and superstructure shifted aft serves the owner as a private deck. The owner also has a panoramic view forward and aft. The forward end of the yacht is sleek with visor windows, while the aft owner’s deck features higher windows to provide spectacular views to the sides and aft. The main deck saloon also has floor to ceiling windows, generating the yacht’s strong interior/

40

exterior relationship and opening up wonderful views of the surrounding seascape. The aft main deck feels like a protected exterior deck with embracing arches coming down to the sides to create a good-sized shaded area. CRN RIO has her own unique character, as the yacht is entirely personalized and built throughout to the owner’s vision. The owner provided inspiration and guidance, asking me to create this long bow, rather like the hood of a vintage sportscar with a 12-cylinder engine. The flush deck with integrated pool enhances the effect of abundant open-air space. One of the main challenges was having a larger number of staterooms on board; a somewhat full program, while still keeping the superstructure relatively short. I personally like the variety expressed in the different areas, the sheltered aft main deck versus the abundant open space of the fore deck and the relatively protected master suite space versus the floor-to-ceiling glazed space of the main deck saloon. We tried to create something unique for CRN, with an eye-catching exterior and a series of distinctive spaces.

The owner wanted spacious open-air areas, from the beach club, well connected by two side staircases to the main deck cockpit, to the forward owner’s deck (above) and the aft area on the wheelhouse deck (opposite page)

41

42

Aft of the wheelhouse deck is a versatile relaxation area, as well as the custom pool, raised and furnished with a comfy integrated sunpad, a sofa area and a bar counter with seats facing the sea. It can also be transformed into an open-air cinema with a wide screen and projector dropping down from the ceiling: a cool device especially for the children who can enjoy cartoons and films under the stars

43

Interior Design Alessandro Pulina, founder of Pulina Exclusive Interiors

T

he initial design approach was to create a pure, linear design where homogeneous materials combine with wood and natural fibres, creating a sort of bright, white island on the sea. The owner, who took a very active role in the design project, joined us in creating sort of tropical paradise with flashes of bright colours creating an exotic, private, floating island, an happy atmosphere for the younger family members to enjoy. A vibrant concept has been developed with a tropical mood, where the prevailing upbeat white tones, pure lines and natural materials are set off by a judicious mix of lively pops of colour and vivid décor inspired by exotic motifs. The white walls harmonise with the marine palette, from pastel turquoise to the varying shades of azure for the furnishings and textiles in custom textures. And delightful details – in tones of blue and fuchsia or green and grey – further embellish every deck. The dominant woods are the strips of white lacquered American walnut and white lacquered oak in staves, selected respectively for the floors and walls. Every colour is intended to communicate the idyllic vision of a private tropical island. We also placed great emphasis on natural and artificial light, which is distributed uniformly around the entire edge of the yacht, a perfect, ordered way of highlighting the wood strips, revealing the design’s unique architecture. Natural light has been maximised by a skilful play of mirrors and light surfaces, with the white amplifying natural reflections on the surfaces. The element that I take most pride in is the homogeneous nature of this unique design, which despite the constant challenges expresses coherence and stylistic consistency. The most complex challenge was the creation of the customised fabrics for the walls, as the owner wanted the spaces to be stylistically differentiated. This gave us the opportunity to experiment and the satisfaction of transforming the owner’s dreams into reality.

e designed and built RIO with the aim of transforming her owner’s vision and desires into reality. Our new client, who is passionate about on-board life, asked us for a yacht he could enjoy with his family and friends. Every yacht presents us with a new opportunity to develop original solutions. Our team has a fantastic attitude to problem-solving and an extremely flexible work method that enables us to follow the design and construction of a yacht in every detail. It also gives us total control over every phase of the project, so we can immediately identify critical issues. In this way we are always ready to intervene and ensure that the final result reflects the owner’s vision. During RIO’s construction we took the greatest care in the construction of the great aluminium arch that tapers towards the bow. It took many hours of work for our skilled artisans to achieve a perfect planar continuity of the surface. RIO is a bespoke work of art, elegant and with a dynamic, sporty personality. Its owner’s passion and his love for the sea and sailing led us to design a superyacht where the cruising experience is innovative and personalised, a combination of freedom and privacy. The owner can relax in the intimacy of the deck dedicated to him and his family or join in the conviviality of the large outdoor living area, 323 square metres for the family’s exclusive use, where the spaces are extremely open and eclectic. The spacious forward lounge area, for example, is an open-air area with direct access from the owner’s suite that can also be opened up to guests and for parties, as a dance floor under the stars. The interiors of the sky lounge are multifunctional and can be used for socialising, relaxation, entertainment or hosting business meetings in great comfort.

Style, elegance and performance Elevators with sinuous shapes and attractive design are the perfect solution to luxurious, exclusive settings. The use of valuable materials combined with modern high technologies can meet the most particular needs in terms of space and design.

Personalization and customisation is our must. A particular attention is paid to norms and regulations in force in the elevator industry as well as to materials and their treatment in order to make them suitable for installation and functioning into a marine environment.

ELECTRIC SHOCK

Almost 2,000 horses power a hyper car straight out of sci that delivers performance that not even an F1 single-seater can match. The secret? The Rimac Nevera is 100 per cent electric. And it’s the future high performance mobility by Diego Tamone - ph. courtesy by Rimac

So when, after five years of development, Rimac officially announced the commercial launch of its first “production” model, the Nevera, there was a huge scramble by buyers that quickly filled up its production slots for the first year. Despite a price tag well over the 2 million euro mark. But it is easy to see why it is such a success story. The Nevera is a zero emissions hyper car with monstrous performance that unleashes both torque and horse power instantaneously. More specifically 1,914 bhp and 2,360 Nm of torque from four electric motors that also deliver benchmark performance. The car’s 0-100 speed of 1.85 seconds alone speaks volumes as it outdoes an F1 single-seater. Oh and that’s not forgetting a hair-raising 412 km/h top speed. The

ontact with nature and the relationship with it is fundamental. Now more than ever yachts are a form of escape and adventure, and bringing the stylistic traits of a terrestrial home on board is no longer enough. Nowadays design and construction processes aim to make the yacht part of its surroundings, making as little environmental impact as possible. Even more so at a time when the industry has the wind in its sails. According to the Business Research Company, the global yacht market is expected to grow from $7.70 billion in 2021 to $8.22 billion in 2022, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.75%. The global yacht market is expected to reach $9.97 billion in 2026. What this means is luxury tourism with a demand for ever larger craft with spacious, versatile and open interiors. Customisation is at a maximum, comfort is a priority and new areas acquire importance: today’s owners demand extra space for a home theatre, gym, massage rooms, private spaces where they can work or hold online meetings and quiet, isolated areas. Designers and builders focus on introducing eco-friendly material, with ecodecking replacing natural teak and ecological paints and varnishes, linen panelling, bio-resins and recycled fabrics and leathers. A crucial factor in rendering yachts more sustainable is hull efficiency and weight limitation to generate consumption and emissions. The war between the Ukraine and Russia also means that fuel supplies can no longer be taken for granted, so serious consideration must now be given to alternative sources of power. Some in the yacht industry are investigating hydrogen generated from filtered, de-ionised sea water. The route towards this goal has been set. Discover all this in this special section of The One Yacht and Design, with the latest that the yacht industry has to offer! Désirée Sormani Managing Director

questions to Massimo Perotti Ceo and President of Sanlorenzo SP110 is your first open coupé. Why this model? In order to grow you have to innovate and introduce new concepts. After the Superyacht Division and the semi-displacement and crossover lines we decided to enter the sports yacht niche market. We introduced a fresh new style of craft, the open coupé. It’s a “smart” craft because we want to offer our clients high performance on an intelligent, responsible basis. Who are your ideal clients? Our clients belong to a circle I like to describe as connoisseurs, people with cultured tastes who can appreciate what Sanlorenzo has to offer – made-to-measure designs, elegance, unique, unmistakeable lines and constant innovation. What are you most proud of in the SP110? The SP110 is the expression of a yard that wants to do something different without distancing itself from its origins. The SP110 is streamlined, powerful, elegant and above all easy to understand. The phrase “high performance” embraces all the yacht’s characteristics – volumes and spaces, interior and exterior usability, flexible layout, propulsion and efficiency. Given the new models seen at the boat shows and the yachts under construction you seem unstoppable. How do you see the future? The first half results were excellent and our portfolio of orders enables us not only revise upwards our projected results for the year, it has given us great confidence in our future. Our growth is based on a strategy first outlined almost ten years ago. The main drivers of this development are art, design and innovation within tradition. For the current decade we’ve added more – sustainability, technology, services and the supply chain. These crucial values enable us grow, to progress in a responsible way. The 73-metre flagship will feature a hybrid diesel-electric system. Is this the solution for a greener future for the yacht industry? Diesel electric is certainly one of the most realistic solutions for reducing the impact of yachts on the marine ecosystem, as well as being the best green technology currently available. Today’s technology doesn’t allow us to consider full-electric craft as the batteries would take up huge amounts of room. We’re convinced that hydrogen is the fuel of the future. We have close strategic partnerships with international companies like Siemens, MTU and Volvo, with the aim of developing hydrogen propulsion, which we see as the real response for the yacht industry. The first superyacht to use this technology for on-board hotel services will be a 50-metre model set for delivery in 2024.

questions to Fabio Ermetto CCO at Baglietto How has the DOM133 been received by the industry? Attitude is the first DOM133 but the second in the DOM line after the DOM123 Run Away. She has immediately proved to be a successful project: with only the first unit delivered in July and still not launched to the public, seven hulls have already been sold to date. The next available unit is number eight. The DOM133 is modelled around the functional and lifestyle needs of modern yacht owners – what are the main ways it achieves this? Choosing aluminium to build this yacht particularly proved to be a winning strategic solution. As a matter of fact, when compared to fibre glass, aluminium ensures not only higher quality and onboard comfort, but also greater flexibility and the possibility to make changes that will result in highly customised exteriors. Customisation, though, reaches its peak in the interiors, where we can meet our client’s wish for unique, ad-hoc solutions. Also worth highlighting is the reduced draught, which allows varied navigation even in the shallow waters of the Bahamas. The beach club is an interesting feature on board the DOM133 – how do you think the two levels enhances the on-board experience? The concept of the two-level beach club stems from the idea of giving guests the same space in any situation, whether at anchor or in port – it is multi-purpose. Unlike beaches areas with opening hatches that do not allow use in port, the stern with a swimming pool and a liftable bottom allows it to be used in any situation. What is your favourite feature of the DOM133? I would say that my favourite feature is the aft area of the main deck. The glass door can be fully opened to create total unity between inside and outside What can the industry expect from Baglietto in the future? As I mentioned, the DOM133 is a great success, alongside our other flagship model, the T52, of which we have sold no less than seven untis without the first hull having been launched yet. At the last Monaco Yacht Show, we presented the latest evolution of the T52: the T60 is now our top of the range. But we are also considering a new project of a different size to enhance the DOM line.

questions to Patrik von Sydow CEO at Turquoise Yachts Blue II is a fusion of old and new. What is the philosophy behind this yacht? Blue II resounds with authenticity and dedication to a ‘golden age of yachting’ philosophy. This philosophy is one of combining comfort with technological complexity and peak performance. Blue II is a beautiful design and engineered to be tough, capable and heads and shoulders above its peers in terms of environmental friendliness. The single screw design coupled with twin electrical motors driven by either of the two main generators or three auxiliary generators provides ultimate efficiency for long distance cruising together with high level of redundancy for safety. This is a project extremely different from the other Turquoise Yachts. What do they have in common? Every yacht we build shares certain qualities: excellent finishes, exclusive interiors, and no-faults-tolerated engineering. Of course, all our yachts are 100 per cent customisable by the client, so that they step on board exactly the yacht they have dreamt of. What does Blue II represent for Turquoise Yachts? Blue II represents a departure from the expected and an acknowledgement of beautiful tradition. Could you give us a comment on the market situation from your point of view? What do owners want? Today’s superyacht owner wants their yacht to be as functional and adventure capable as it is beautiful. As the charter market also grows, many owners are looking for yachts that will accommodate a wide variety of requirements and suit a wide variety of tastes, while still standing out as something special and different. What are the next goals for Turquoise Yachts? Many of our goals are naturally focused on how we design, engineer, and build yachts so that we further exceed our clients’ expectations. The Turquoise world is one of perfection and managing our own destiny by cleverly balancing what we do in house, versus via our carefully selected partners. Our in-house engineering and yacht production will always remain central to our competitive advantage as it drives innovation, as well as value for the yacht owner.

questions to Stefano de Vivo Ferretti Group CCO Which of the two Custom Lines model ranges is more successful - the planing or displacement yachts? Owners from all over the world choose Custom Line models to communicate their vision of sailing through the total personalisation of the yacht. All of the brand’s yachts feature cutting-edge design, construction and on-board technology solutions. The fleet has two spirits, which meet in the same passion for the sea but different sailing profiles. The two lines are designed to meet every sailing need and lifestyle. What type of owner is each line intended for? The planing line comprises superyachts for the most demanding, dynamic owners. It’s a sublime expression of speed, performance, strength and avant-garde aesthetics. It’s especially appreciated by American buyers for the high performance and reduced draught of its yachts, enabling owners to sail in the shallow waters of the Caribbean. The Navetta line is made up of luxury yachts that are perfect for those who like sailing long distances in total comfort, enjoying generous volumes and spaces. The emphasis here is on elegance, beauty and exclusivity. At the moment how many craft in each line are under construction and when is launch set for? From the beginning of the year to right now we’ve launched a total of fifteen yachts, and that number will reach twenty by the end of the year. We’re excited about the results we’ve achieved, but we’re not resting on our laurels. At the moment we have forty craft under construction, 60% of which are Navetta and 40% are planing models. The Navetta 50 metres is the flagship. What lies behind the requirement to offer Custom Line craft above 30 metres? We’ve sold over 200 Custom Line brand yachts, and that’s proof of the close link we’ve created with owners. They grow with us, remaining loyal to the brand and moving on from smaller to larger models. Yachting is increasingly oriented towards the idea of floating villas, and Custom Line offers the best interpretation of this trend. What type of eco-sustainable solutions are featured on this model? There are many! Above all, the use of aluminium with a 1/3 difference in weight from steel, generating consumption savings of around 10-15% over a 50-metre yacht of the same dimensions and volumes (GT). The Custom Line Navetta 50 Hull#01 will also be equipped with an SCR - selective catalytic reduction system. For the interior design we’ve used Alpi lignum walnut panelling, a certified eco-sustainable material with no formaldehyde additives. The taps from the Axor Citterio range, designed by Citterio, have a flow rate of five litres per minute instead of twelve litres, and the Foglizzo natural leather products are 100% recycled.

Beauty in Motion by Désirée Sormani

Impeccably balanced automotive and aeronautics-inspired lines and curves clothed the T680 Fenice, a superyacht developed by Team For Design in partnership with Tankoa Yachts

N

o one born and raised in Venice can avoid being influenced by the city’s peerless heritage of art, beauty and maritime history. Enrico Gobbi is no exception. He fell in love with yachts whilst doing his thesis for an architecture degree in his home city. After a five-year

stint at the Nuvolari-Lenard studio, he founded Team for Design in nearby Mestre in 2005. “Above all, the yacht should be beautiful. Then as you get closer the refined, complex details emerge. To me, design is all about harmonious proportions,” he says. Gobbi’s first project for Tankoa is the aptly-named Fenice, a 68m superyacht built on new naval platform with exterior styling that is elegant, streamlined, bold and dynamic at once. Clothed in automotive and aeronautics-inspired lines and curves, Fenice epitomises beauty in motion. “From the very first moment I started sharing my ideas with Tankoa, I knew I was in the right place with the right people,” Gobbi continues. The clever circulation flow aboard the T680 Fenice makes the transition between interior and exterior utterly natural for the ultimate in guest relaxation and conviviality. The astounding centrepiece, however, is a glorious 100 sqm multi-level beach club spanning an infinity pool, gym, spa and lounge. A glass-covered portion of the pool integrated into the centre of the deck leads guests directly to a sheltered terrace, and then onto the beach club proper. Folding balconies on both sides increase interior space and foster a bond with the sea, while twin staircases link the main deck and stern platform. The perfect playroom and chill-out zone in other words. Conversely, the main salon is a haven of sedate comfort and style, effortlessly flowing out to the terrace. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows afford sweeping sea views too. Further forward lie two VIP suites and four en suite guest cabins, all with huge full-height windows. The open-aft section of the upper deck morphs into a circular dining area, which can be enclosed by full-height sliding glass doors or left semi-open to the sun and sea breeze. The master stateroom is an exquisite 90 sqm retreat with 270-degree panoramic views, a huge walk-wardrobe and palatial marble bathroom. It enjoys direct access to a private foredeck with sun loungers and a glass-fronted Jacuzzi that doubles as a touch-and-go helipad for grand entrances or dramatic exits. The lower deck is dedicated to the crew quarters and services, including a prospec galley, hospital room and side-loading tender garage. teamfordesign.com

in early 2022 by a repeat client for which the studio also designed the 127’ Far Far Away (2011). “In 2018, we started sketching ideas for a 50 metre with the tender deck kept forward. That’s when the idea for the cranes integrated in the superstructure was developed, a new system to launch and retrieve tenders quickly and safely, that can be applied to other yacht sizes,” explains De Basto. But Covid intervened and by the time the project

Volvo Penta, Barbara Amerio Permare Ceo, Luiz De Basto and Juan Morillo Amer dealer in USA. Below, the radical new tender launch and retrieval system

restarted in 2022, the owners had concluded that a 50m was too big. The family also decided to do without a beach club on the lower deck. “Instead, the Flybridge was increased to 17 metres which, although it doesn’t look very conspicuous, accounts for more than 40% of the LOA,” says De Basto. The yacht shrank to 38m but ultimately an LOA and a beam of 9.7 proved the sweet spot to include two 8-metre-plus tenders, waverunners and a landing deck for a helicopter. Thanks to a high bow, innovative hull, advanced low-consumption and emissions propulsion system, heavy duty 8,000 kg cranes and a 4500 NM range, the AMER 41 Explorer Yacht really can venture to any area of the world. Her profile cleverly conceals her robust, challenge-loving character too. One of the surprise benefits of her aft house configuration is that the pilot house is forward, overlooking the tender deck. Its stunning floor-to-ceiling forward-angled windscreen offers 270-degree views while a floating console and futuristic electronic package lend the space an otherworldly feel. “My aim is to incorporate the demands of experienced owners into their lifestyle. In the Amer 41 Explorer, that meant not just resolving the functional side of an explorer yacht but also making the pleasure of superior aesthetics and experience an intrinsic part of yacht ownership”. luizdebasto.com

questions to Enrico Corelli CEO of PLH What makes PLH’s plates different from others on the market? We offer a bespoke service. We don’t just create a cover: we create actual PUIs - Physical User Interfaces – that allow users to control items and function in an analogue way which gives significant emotional feedback each and every time. Control plates and keypads and and domotics: how well can we now interact with our living environment at the touch of a button? Unfortunately, domotics has been used like a traditional system for quite some time. The keypads themselves are often single rather than grouped together, and for example, don’t track users’ requirements over the course of the day by adapting the service to the time or place. Just think about wireless control. Many sector operators and producers see them as regulator wall-mounted switches that just happen to be wireless. Wireless control keypads and remotes should be portable or transportable and change their purpose depending on where and how it is used, as the case with our Neo Lighter. How far does personalisation go and can you give us any examples of particularly impressive bespoke applications? There are no limits. Because we don’t use moulds and instead produce sheets of materials using 3 or 5 axis numerical control machines, we can do anything the client or architect wants. We have built up finish and treatment skills that definitely put us at the very top of the pile of custom companies. Inserting silk fabric by Rubelli and Antolini marble were our most stimulating projects because they were technically complex. We get asked to do things like slicing marble into 1mm thicknesses, cutting silk without it fraying and reusing antique wood and setting them into the controls on a fairly regular basis. What are the main differences functionality and materials-wise between residential plates and nautical ones? For the yachting sector, there is much more of a focus on using suitable materials and components. So we prefer to supply products with a stainless steel base i.e. well-protected electronics. We bring our naval experience to the residential sector too to guarantee a tougher, more hardwearing result.

Enrico Corelli explained the business’s latest technological and aesthetic achievements: “Integrating A and C USB modules with the products is one of our latest additions. Charging at beside table height has become a necessity these days. We are also developing two other projects that will broaden the integration of our plates with other systems. However, given tbe attention our products are attracting from producers and the serial copying that goes on in Italy, we are keeping them under wraps until the next Salone del Mobile,” he smiled. plhitalia.com

“O

ur greatest satisfaction is creating products that simplify on-board life while remaining true to our core values, like stylistic research and technology”. These are the words of Giorgio Besenzoni, president of the

Besenzoni company, in his acknowledgement speech after receiving the prize at September’s Design Innovation Award event during the 62nd Genoa International Boat Show. The product recognised in this way was the multifunction LaScala SPE 907. LaScala is part of Besenzoni’s BeElectric range, launched in late 2020 with the aim of replacing, where possible, hydraulically operated components with electrically-powered units that are exceptionally easy to use, install and maintain. “The BeElectric products consume much less power than the hydraulic systems we’ve been used to, providing significant energy savings. And we’ve only just started”. The range, which has grown rapidly, now includes LaScala, LaPasserella, IlSalpAncora and IlTenderLift. The result is an ability to combine technological innovation and a design whose refinement lies in its straightforward elegance. “For us, technology and style go together”, says Giorgio Besenzo-

A Synthesis of Form and Function A representative of Made in Italy excellence throughout the world, TEAM Italia expresses all the values driving the country’s yacht industry – cutting-edge technology, design and function. he company was founded in 2000, but in fact the two partners who set it up have worked in the field of naval technical systems since the 1980s. Massimo Minnella and Daniele Ceccanti are two

professionals who began collaborating almost forty years ago now on the production and installation of naval command and control systems, an experience that enabled them to identify a crucial requirement – integrating all these systems to facilitate the availability of information for the captain and officers, at the same time simplifying the use of all on-board systems through a single interface. As Massimo Minnella says, “All the many on-board systems have their own functional logic, instructions and particular features, and integrating them enables us to give the crew the opportunity to manage all of them through a single logic, one that’s often personalised, so it’s all more streamlined and efficient”. This is the technical key that led to the creation of the I-Bridge®, a management platform integrating the numerous on-board systems dealing with ship handling and controlling all the systems. “On a modern yacht

or Garmin, research and development never stop. The rapid pace of development in electronics now means the company can offer integrated systems with exceptional technical value, increasing ease of use and safety while

creating functional consoles that are proof a focus on aesthetics is also relevant on yachts where attention has been paid to even the smallest detail, no matter how small the craft. “Even yachts below 70 metres in length have consoles where everything can be integrated”, says Pontus Fernstron, EMEA Marine Segment Marketing Director for Garmin. “The many on-board systems provide a vast amount of information, not just map displays but also integrated management of equipment and domotics”. This is made possible by the EmpirBus system and integration with Garmin’s Surround View, making it

possible for skippers or owners to have all the useful information at their fingertips, where they can manage them actively. “We have scenarios where even if the person in command makes an error an accident can be avoided” Fernstron continues. “For example, the automatic activation of the Surround View system to display real-time images from the six cameras on board, measuring distance, indicating alarms and providing visual references. This scenario comes into operation automatically when you’re mooring”. The generator also cuts in automatically if the battery power drops, or to control transmissions when at anchor with the aft platform lowered, and much more besides. “Integrating means making it easier to use displays and manage systems. At the same time we want to make consoles that are much more attractive”. Another important element is that all the functions are managed in a user-friendly setting, with a single logic, making operations rapid and efficient. “In fact, users can construct their own scenarios, which come into operation automatically depending on the use the yacht is being put to. If you’re at anchor it will manage automatically the various systems like running and mooring lights, generators and everything the owner intends using in that situation”, says Fernston. The same will apply when the yacht is under way, with pre-determined parameters and functions that can always be managed by the user, including lighting, music and adjusting levels. It’s an almost magical way of making on-board life easy! But the list of new features doesn’t end there. “We have an important collaboration with Volvo Penta for managing their systems and developing our equipment. This has enabled us to make significant progress in creating valuable solutions. We dialogue with a lot of systems suppliers and producers we want to interact with so we can have everything displayed and managed in a single unit. Beautiful and functional!” garmin.com

One reason for this is that he thinks the relationship between a yacht, the water that supports it and the animal world it hosts are further stimuli for a designer. His creativity embraces many fields, as witnessed by the long series of products he has brought to life. Means of transport and the idea of movement, though, remain the main focus of his activity. However, the objectives of the creative act are important, and that is what emerges when he reflects on a type of object he would like to design but has never had the opportunity to tackle. “When I was younger I would have said a military vehicle, because it requires the elimination of the superfluous. The masses are different but the profiles and perspectives reflect the classic design canons. ue to our longstanding relationship with Ahpo’s owners – having designed their previous yacht – it was easy to understand each other and the design goals for this project from the outset. The owners were very satisfied with the design of their previous yacht, and basically all that they asked for this project was a yacht that was even more beautiful than their last. Of course, they asked for a different layout and some other differences, but these are technicalities. The only feature that the two designs have in common are the semicircular windows. Apart from that, all I intended for the exterior design was that when the owners approach the boat from any angle, they need

128

to look and simply say, ‘Wow, I like her a lot!’. They just simply had to be in love with the boat. Ahpo’s long, falling sheer line is a signature design of Nuvolari Lenard – it embodies sportivity, emphasises the length of the yacht and makes it very recognisable. The use of contrasting black and white areas is another typical Nuvolari Lenard design trick, which helps to make such a large yacht look sleek and sporty. Ahpo’s large mast is another interesting and dominating architectural feature of the exterior design. Reminiscent of a ship’s funnel and symbolising strength and seriousness, the idea behind this feature was to give the yacht a strong character and an unmistakable look.

Ahpo’s long, falling sheer line is a signature design of Nuvolari Lenard: it embodies sportivity, emphasises the length of the yacht and makes it very recognisable. Ahpo was designed to travel to her destinations in utmost comfort, with efficiency and to be as green as possible. 129

Interior Design, Valentina Zannier Head Interior Designer at Nuvolari Lenard

T

he brief for the interior design came from the owner’s family, who have been deeply involved in the process of designing the interiors. Their previous boat had a very fluent and organic decoration but, for Ahpo, they wanted a step up and a real improvement in terms of details, richness, and special materials. It all needed to be balanced by a main concept, and there’s nothing better than all the inspirations of the world of nature to develop such complex design. The centre of the yacht, for example, is dominated by a grand staircase depicting an olive tree that grows up five decks towards the sky, and a crystal sculpture of falling feathers hanging from the ceiling. The olive tree represents life growing in a prosperous environment, which is surrounded by birds and clouds realised in gypsum bas relief technique. The crystal sculpture in the centre of the staircase is an exceptional piece of engineering and craftsmanship. Built in the Crystal Valley in Czech Republic, it represents the lightness of natural elements and the power of light. In fact, the concept rotates in an elliptical shape that is meant to catch light sources with the crystal pearls that compose each feather. Flexibility in terms of spaces is also one of the main features of

Ahpo’s interior. It has been no secret since the first discussions with the owners that the boat was going to be made available on the charter market, yet the family wanted to make the clear statement that the space conception needed to be done in line with the way they love to live on board. The unconventional positioning of the board room perfectly explains this concept: located in the main entrance from the stern and just before the formal salon, this space can also be transformed into one grand room.

130

Above, the spiral staircase features a complex balustrade that represents an olive tree growing over several decks. Below, the grand dining room features a spectacular custom table with a theme of water lilies, which is repeated in the chandelier and on the doors Opposite, the interior living spaces are designed to be flexible for different uses: the boat is going to be made available on the charter market

or Lürssen, the task was to build a motoryacht for a repeat client – an upgrade from his 86-metre Lürssen – who had many years of owning and chartering different types of yachts behind him. He required top-notch design and engineering as well as seagoing comfort for his family, guests and crew. The launch of Ahpo, therefore, is testament to the excellent team of builders, designers and engineers we have at Lürssen and the strong relationship with the client. Lürssen prides itself on meeting challenges and this one was no different. Ahpo was designed to travel to her destinations in utmost comfort, with efficiency and the desire to be as green as possible also an important factor. As such, the yacht is equipped with state-of-the art technology and engineering systems. For instance, the generators are fitted with a heat recovery system to heat the pool water, leading to reduced use of electrical power and lower emissions, while dynamic positioning enables electronic anchoring in sensitive and remote areas, protecting the seabed and allowing for safe mooring regardless of water depth. Ahpo is also equipped with an exhaust after-treatment system that reduces nitrogen oxide levels and generates less noise and vibration. Whereas Ahpo has made the most of some of the world’s best engineers, designers and craftsmen, the heart is always a crucial part of the outcome and, in this case, it was very much led by the owner and his desire for the perfect family space. The owner was always very interested in every detail and was always close to the project. He visited the shipyard as often as he could and between his visits was always kept up to date on progress by his representative at the shipyard. Paradise is subjective, but when there is so much thought and design put into each space that means everyone is able to enjoy themselves on board in their preferred way, then it is hard to argue that paradise hasn’t been found on a yacht such as Ahpo.

THE SUBTLE EQUILIBRIUM OF ART AND DESIGN by Paola Bertelli

O

fficina Italiana Design has handled interior and exterior design for Riva since 1994. Its hallmarks are what identify the Rivas of today. With intense attention to every detail it has launched the brand into the future through a combination of innovation and the contemporary, while respecting the history and emotions of the great Riva creations. The Rivas of yesterday and today are like works of art, and the link between art and design was the starting point for our chat with Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, the founders of OID.

Riva craft are often regarded as works of art as well as design. What do you think is the link between art and design? Mauro Micheli: Art and design are linked by aesthetic research, but art is for the mind and design serves people. If you look, for example, at the wonderful stylistic elements of architecture from the 1940s and 50s, that’s design that can be assimilated into the field of art. In my work I draw inspiration mainly from some artists or forms of art, I follow what pleases me, I’m trained for art, it’s an attitude I’ve cultivated (he attended the Fine Arts Academy of Brera, Milan – ed). And I don’t follow products by other designers. Paradoxically I’m less interested in design that art. I do design, it’s true, but in different forms. 180 years of Riva and almost 30 years of OID with Riva. What have you absorbed from the brand and what have you brought to it? M.M.: We’ve absorbed a great deal from Riva, I’ve experienced four periods of Riva. I joined in 1984, before founding Officina Italiana Design with Sergio. Gino Gervasoni was at the helm – he’s someone who’s not spoken about much but he has made important contributions to the Riva legend. This was followed by a “dark” period that lasted until the yard joined Ferretti Group. Alberto Galassi made a crucial mark on the brand, and we played an important role, too. Everyone recognises the stylistic elements we introduced and that define today’s Rivas. We did it gradually, with light touches and always including references to the lines of the past. We tried to maintain continuity while making some kind of break.

How would you describe your stylistic hallmarks? Sergio Beretta: Lines that seek to endure. Take the Aquariva for example, it’s been in production for twenty years and has never been changed, just in small details. Aquarama is a star, but we really love Aquariva. Does working with a brand like Riva impose limitations? S.B.: It’s important to metabolise the brand you’re working with, otherwise you become blocked. Now many years have gone by and the Riva lines are in some way our lines, we no longer work to interpret the brand, we seek to carry it forward as an embodiment of what we’ve always believed in. What are the key, essential elements on the Riva craft you’ve designed? M. M.: Clean lines, an equilibrium between interiors and exteriors. One should never spoil the other. Equilibrium is indispensable, you can’t build a yacht that has oceans of space but is deeply unattractive. Someone buying a Riva must also acquire a totally beautiful object. That’s a given. How do you see Riva’s future? S. B.: Riva has experienced incredible development, it’s what was wanted, and it still has enormous potential. If you ask me, we’re just at the beginning! To complete the offer, from September, Edilfare Piscine’s showroom will feature an area dedicated to outdoor furnishings and accessories, enabling them to define the image and mood of relaxation and well-being zones. Fabio Signorelli reveals an important new development marking the company’s entry into the yachtbuilding world. “We’ve built a custom pool in glass and steel for a private model by Tankoa Yachts. Now another client has commissioned us for a 60-metre yacht. We’ve begun the design and delivery will take place before the end of the year”. indfulness is a sober, restrained yacht with timeless elegance. All the project’s elements are balanced and contribute to a beauty that will endure. It’s a generous vessel that offers spaces and layouts that are difficult to find on an 80-metre build, and its interiors are light and airy, with views to the exterior on two levels, through the deck house and hull windows. We chose the colours together with Advanced, where light oak is interrupted by dark oak accents to define the different zones more clearly. We’re proud of the overall harmony – the A80 is a sleek, sporty, well-balanced yacht despite the large interiors. Development of the deck design began, as always, with the first stage – the architecture – which involved the position and size of the various functions. Around this we created the main deck styling, inspired by the A66, with the same deck house elements, glass details and coaming. The interiors of the A80 were developed together with the deck layout. As we were familiar with every available millimetre we were able to develop several layouts, all practical and seaworthy, designed in line with our design principles concerning contact with the sea and the exterior and making full use of spaces. An important element in the design of the interior spaces is the modularity that enables Advanced to offer a range of layouts without compromising the structural and systems concepts that create the platform at the basis of the project. For artificial light we’ve used concealed spotlights that don’t dazzle, they diffuse the light almost magically, as if they didn’t exist. They have special lenses and anti-glare systems that create a warm, indirect light that reflects off the panels and provides a stronger sensation of depth and comfort.

The extensive deck house and hull windows eradicate the barriers between interior and exterior. The light colour of the brushed oak renders the spaces fresh and bright. The guest sleeping area is located aft, with a full-beam owner’s suite (right, bottom). Above, here and on opposite page, the saloon with dining and conversation areas

hen Advanced Yachts settled on the concept of a blue water performance cruiser that could eat up the ocean miles at pace as well as in comfort, safety, and style, it turned to the formidable ‘A Team’ behind its A66. John Reichel of Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design would take care of naval architecture. Interior and exterior styling fell to Mario Pedol and Massimo Gino of Nauta Yachts, and Gurit took charge of the structural engineering. The parameters drawn up by Nauta Yachts include the beam and draft, which then determine the displacement given the materials used to construct the A80. Around those parameters we developed the naval architecture, hull shape, appendages and sail plan to develop a clean, fast, sea-kindly design. The result is an easily driven hull shape with a 3.5m fin and bulb keel and a single composite rudder. We took care to avoid extremes with this design, to deliver a design with excellent seakeeping characteristics that would perform well over the full range of conditions any ocean-going boat could expect to experience. Many cruising designs feature twin aft rudders to fit more interior. On the moderate displacement 80’ hull design the single rudder does an excellent job of control and balance through the full range of wind angles and strength. The rudder shape and the fin profile are the result of state-of-the art in-house research to deliver high speed, and to give the helmsman total control of the yacht and easy Jim Pugh (left), president of Reichel/Pugh, the handling under sail in any weather conditions. T

he Advanced 80s are inspired by our desire to create a range of blue water cruisers that are more up-to-date than those currently on the market. The Chinese owner of the first model gave the green light for the project - he fell in love with it immediately when he saw that it combines high performance with the extreme comfort of a villa on the sea. We used vacuum-infused epoxy resin composite for the hull, it’s the most advanced technology apart from carbon fibre. We decided against using carbon here because it makes the hull very rigid, so it would transmit sound and vibration when under way, compromising the sailing comfort we think is a must. The deck, though, is in carbon fibre, giving rigidity to the structure. This keeps down the superstructure weight and has no adverse effect on comfort. The glazed deck house means the yacht’s 80 metres are flooded with light, and the semi-raised saloon takes full advantage of the yacht’s beam and finally means we can say goodbye to the feeling of being closed in below deck. It also enables us to instal all the systems under saloon floor, concentrating weight low down and amidships. We pay almost obsessive attention to weight and distribution - we weigh every single component, we lighten the furnishings and take many more measures to lighten the yacht as much as possible. Mindfulness is the third unit, and like the others it was developed on the basis of how the owner will use the vessel and its navigation programmes. We’re totally flexible as regards the interior and surfaces. The greatest challenge presented by this project was to show that the Advanced 80s are true blue water cruisers as well as being as safe and reliable as all our other yachts.

PRESENT AND FUTURE CONNECTED BY PASSION

A new exhibition space embracing the Baglietto yard’s inimitable history and heritage is due to open in 2023. The result of an international competition for young architects, the winning design much more than just an ordinary museum by Désirée Sormani These images, the winning design for the new Baglietto micro museum in La Spezia. The work of Boris Hilderal, it met all of the yard’s main criteria. Aside from being feasible to build, it had to tell the story of Baglietto’s past and present as well as looking to the future using multimedia and modern technologies. It even lights up completely at night!

of ultra-flat watches and producing it in a run of 150 examples with a futuristic construction boasting a total thickness – case plus movement – of only 1.75 mm. To give an idea, that’s slimmer than a ten euro cent coin (1.93 mm) or as thin as a compact disc. Until recently this would be simply inconceivable, but it’s now been achieved by sharing technical and materials know-how with Ferrari. This collaboration has resulted in a manually-wound mechanical movement spread out over a horizontal surface to an unbelievable thickness of only 1.18 mm. This feat is rendered even more amazing by the fact that the model’s grade 5 titanium case enables it to resist shocks and acceleration of more than 5,000 g.

FOR

EXCELLENCE

Founded in 1860, by artisan watchmaker Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the luxury Swiss maison Chopard has built its reputation as the ‘red carpet jeweller’, dressing the world’s biggest stars in its dazzling creations for the iconic annual walk down La Croisette by Gianfilippo Versari

aving started life as a watch-maker, Chopard relocated to Geneva in 1937 but was handed over to Karl Scheufele III in 1963. It remains

in the hands of his children, Caroline and KarlFriedrich, who are Chopard’s current co-presidents. Between them, the siblings have evolved the maison into a luxury brand renowned for creativity, extraordinary craftsmanship, opulent gems and exquisite collections spanning dazzling high jewellery and exceptional watches. Chopard is now synonymous with red carpet jewels, unique sports watches, iconic moving diamonds and meaningful heart motifs. When the company celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2010, it owned around 100 boutiques worldwide and boasted estimated sales of €550 million, almost half which came from its watches. The brand’s partners include the Mille Miglia car rally (1998) and The Historic Grand Prix of Monaco (as the event’s official time-keeper). In 1998, Chopard was selected as official partner of the legendary Cannes International Film Festival and Caroline Scheufele was asked to redesign the iconic Palme d’Or trophy. The resulting long-standing relationship proved the perfect mix of glamorous jewellery, film and celebrity, and eventually saw Chopard launch its now-annual Red Carpet Collection of dazzling one-of-a-kind-jewellery. Worn by the likes of Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett and Julia Roberts, these collections are an enduring and glorious kaleidoscope of creativity, colour and high carats showcased, of course, on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. ‘Chopard Loves Cinema’ was the theme chosen by the Maison to mark its participation in the 75th Cannes Film Festival in 2022, which was also its 25th year as official partner. Caroline Scheufele designed a masterful Red Carpet Collection of 75 Haute Joaillerie creations for this very special occasion: an epic saga inspired by cinema’s dazzling development from its

THE NEW MILANESE BOUTIQUE: A HOME FROM HOME ON GLAMOROUS VIA MONTENAPOLEONE If the Devil wears Prada (quoting the title of the famous film), he most definitely shops on Via Montenapoleone. All designers yearn for a prized spot on “Via Montenapo” as it is affectionately known to the Milanese, but only the top luxury brands are fortunate enough to showcase their creations for the approval of the city’s shopaholics in its windows. The new Chopard boutique opens its doors at number 25 right in the heart of the famous Quadrilatero della Moda fashion district, just a stone’s throw from the Duomo. Gleaming with marble and hardwood, the 90 sqm store was inspired by the artistry of the great Milanese architects of the 1930s. It is a tribute to the city of fashion, a new jewel in the crown of Chopard boutiques that the Scheufele family designs as unique, welcoming and familiar: a home from home, in other words. Needless to say, iconic Via Montenapoleone, one of Milan’s four most expensive shopping streets, was the only possible address for the Scheufele family, for whom location is an absolute priority.
