elcome to the Early Winter issue of PML.

Here at PML, we are very happy 2009 is behind us. We’re looking forward to a healthy, prosperous 2010.

As I write, the eyes of the world are on the Haitian earthquake disaster. There are - of course - many ways one can contribute towards immediate aid for the survivors of this horrific event. Two of our favorite charitable organizations are “Shelterbox” (www.shelterbox.org) and “Rennwish” (www.rennwish.org). Please take a moment to visit their respective websites and consider making a donation. We certainly hope for the best.

We kick things off with a quick look at the 2011 Boxster Spyder. This exciting new car is a great addition to an already stellar product line. Here at PML, we get excited about any “back-to-basics” Porsche model. The Boxster Spyder should resonate strongly with the North American market. Kudos to Stuttgart for bringing us this neat Boxster variant. We saw the car in the metal during the recent Los Angeles Auto Show. A lot of changes were made to the Spyder to differentiate it from it’s Boxster/Cayman Has it been 20 years already? The 2010 Carrera Cup GT3 made its’ North American debut at the L.A. Auto Show. siblings to provide a totally unique driving experience. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel for a closer look. See page 5.

Also on page 5 is a brief chat PML’s Pat Croyle had with Bernd Harling - General Manager of Public Relations for Porsche Cars North America (PCNA). Pat asked some interesting questions in the short time he spent with Mr. Harling.

The pricing tables are back! In a concerted effort to “get things caught up”, the PML staff has compiled price tables for the 356, early 911, late 911, 964, 993, 996, and 997 series cars. Once again, we emphasize that these tables are based solely on Asking Prices as we see them here at PML. These tables begin on page 6.

Porsche New Car Sales continue to improve. PCNA ended the ‘09 calender year with December being the best sales month for the entire year. The Panamera - introduced in October - is off to a great start. Porsche’s Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program also posted strong returns. There are truly some great buys to be had out there. The September, October, and November sales figures can be found on page 8. Note:The December Sales chart will be posted in the next issue.

Fundamentally and emotionally, the entire Boxster family is the successor to the legendary 550 Spyder and RS 60 of the Fifties and Sixties, all sharing the same mid-engine roadster concept. The 2011 Boxster Spyder Displays A Very Strong Heritage

OS ANGELES - Weighing in at just 2,811 lbs., the new 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder will be the lightest Porsche available – from a company known for lightweight, efficient sports cars. This new mid-engined roadster represents a more tactile approach to the Boxster concept – agile, powerful, open and efficient. This third Boxster model joined the standard Boxster and Boxster S, at its recent world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Dec. 2, 2009.

The newest member of the Boxster family stands out from the other versions of Porsche’s midengined roadster. Its low-slung, lightweight soft top – when closed – extends far to the rear to protect the driver and passenger from bright sunshine, wind and weather. This top, when combined with extra-low side windows and two striking bulges on the single-piece rear lid, provides the Boxster Spyder with a sleek silhouette.. In reality, it appears the top will offer no more utility than the tops originally found on the 356 Speedsters – we here at PML suspect most Spyder buyers will regard the top as a last resort. This car is clearly meant to be enjoyed with the top down.

LOS ANGELES - During the Los Angeles Auto Show, PML’s Pat Croyle spent a couple of minutes with Bernd Harling – The General Manager of Public Relations for Porsche Cars North America (PCNA). The questions that follow hopefully provide some insight to the general direction and challenges Porsche faces as the newest member of the Volkswagen family.

PML: Does Porsche anticipate a stronger presence in the U.S. Diesel Market? Is Porsche working to get more Diesel product to the United States? Harling: As you know, we have the Cayenne Diesel in Europe now, as well as a few other markets, If there is sufficient demand for the Diesel Platform, then we will work to get it here…California especially is a challenge, not just for Porsche, but for all manufacturers with a diesel product. The level of demand has to be quite high to us to justify meeting the stringent California requirement - but it can be done. PML: Regarding the New Boxster Spyder – Did the Lotus Elise have anything to do with Porsche’s decision to bring this car to market…in terms of offering a lightweight, no frills, driver’s car? Harling: (smiles) You wish to pull my leg? Seriously, the Boxster Spyder had been in the product plan for some time. No…the Elise was not a factor at all.

PML: What is the “general mood” at Porsche

today, now that VW has taken the helm?

Harling: It’s not really a “takeover” in the true

sense of the word…one must understand that

Porsche would not have been able to remain

independent in the long run, due to R&D costs,

etc…the merger allows us to focus on the quality

product line we have today, and, perhaps even build

more diversified products., since we now have

access to additional expertise from different

segments of the VW organization. The general

“mood” is actually very positive and optimistic.

PML: Is VW staying “hands off”? Are they staying

out of your design process, or are they trying to

influence things?

Harling: I wouldn’t call it influence…VW has a

very real interest in seeing Porsche remain

successful in the marketplace.

PML: Do you think there will be an effect on the

Porsche Product Line, now that VW is involved?

Harling: I think the addition of Porsche to the VW

family will have more of an effect on the other

brands, such as Audi and Bentley…particularly

with the high line products. There will be more

efficiencies realized, especially in terms of

development costs, and product research.

PML: We certainly wish Porsche and VW the very

best in this venture and we thank you for stopping

to chat with us.

Harling: You’re quite welcome.

The Boxster Spyder features a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine with Direct Fuel Injection upfront of the rear axle. Maximum output is 320 horsepower (hp), 10 hp more than the Boxster S.

The combination of 10 more hp and 176 pounds less weight than the award-winning Boxster S, plus an all-new sport suspension that lowers the Boxster Spyder 20 mm, a lower center of gravity, a standard limited slip differential, and exclusive wheels provide driving dynamics that back up the unique look. Aluminum door skins and lightweight interior door panels from the 911 GT3 RS contribute to the weight reduction. This car is far more than a simple badge-engineered, marketing exercise. spends a lot of time examining and tracking the Secondary Porsche Market – across all the Porsche model lines. This translates into looking at a LOT of cars over a given period of time. As a result, we have cultivated a reasonable outlook on the state of the market – especially with the way things have been over the past year and a half.

All figures shown are based on ASKING PRICES ONLY as we see them here at PML.

Capturing and Publishing “Actual Sales Data” can be a real exercise in futility. What a person spends on a discretionary item - such as an expensive Porsche - is really of no concern to anyone. Simply put: this type of information is NOT a matter of public record, which does put a damper on Sales Data-gathering efforts. Beginning in 2010, PML will provide Porschespecific auction results coverage. Auctions are a totally different animal. We intend to keep that upcoming auction coverage separate from our “normal process” of tracking asking prices. It’s our hope the Auction Results and our Price Tables work together to provide a solid, working perspective on the Secondary Porsche Market. Once in a great while we get lucky and obtain Actual Sales Data on certain cars, but the sample is never large enough or consistent enough to warrant any further action. Once again - there’s the integrity angle: How “solid” is that data to begin with? A Good Deal is what the Buyer and Seller ultimately agree to – nothing more, nothing less.

That said, the following tables are an attempt to capture the “Big Picture” in regards to what a prospective buyer might encounter when shopping for that dream Porsche. Sellers, on the other hand, can use this data to help manage their expectations. NONE of this data is set in stone. It’s simply the product of PML’s ongoing observation.

One should consider the “Low, Median, High” numbers to be indicative of the same car. PML doesn’t segregate cars into groups, based on condition. We work on the premise that the buyer is interested and focused toward a “particular” car.

Well known Porsche Guru Bruce Anderson has always stated: “Buy the best one you can afford.” Unless you’re a shop professional, or DIY type capable of doing most of his own work on a project car, this is very sound advice.

The Good News is this: The fact that 2008 and 2009 were not the best didn’t seem to have the apocalyptic effect on the Secondary Porsche Market as many people predicted. However, that down cycle DID produce some outstanding buys throughout most of the Porsche model range. Those great buys can still be had today. 6

‘09 U.S. Sales: Things Really Are Improving

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne SUVs announced September sales in the U.S. of 1,581 units compared to the same period last year when it sold 1,458, up 8.4 percent. This is the second consecutive month that PCNA has recorded a sizable increase in sales —a first in 2009. Notable were Porsche’s mid-engine sports car sales for the Boxster and Cayman, which were 326 versus last year’s figure of 195. Further, sales of Porsche’s venerable 911 series for September were 720 versus last year’s figure of 516, an increase of 40 percent and the best results for the iconic sports car in a year.

Porsche’s overall year-to-date sales in 2009 are 14,310 compared to the first nine months of last year when they were 21,076, a decrease of 32 percent. For the month, Porsche’s Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales were 523, compared to 475 for the same period last year.

October sales in the U.S. of 1,642 units compared to the same period last year when it sold 1,427, up 15 percent. This marks the third consecutive month that PCNA has recorded an increase in year-over-year sales from 2008.On sale for only about two weeks, Porsche’s new four-door Panamera had already recorded sales of 360 units

“The market launch of the Panamera was October 17, so the number is encouraging,” said PCNA President and CEO, Detlev von Platen. “Just as importantly, we expect the Panamera to bring additional momentum to our dealerships that will benefit our entire model line.”

Also notable for October were sales of the German automaker’s mid-engine sports cars, the Boxster and Cayman, with 271 units sold compared to 153 the year prior, a 77 percent increase. Porsche’s overall year-to-date sales in 2009 are 15,952 compared to the same period last year when sales were 22,503, a decrease of 29 percent. For the month, Porsche’s Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales were 548, compared to 389 for the same month last year, a 41 percent increase.

November sales in the U.S. of 1,626 units compared to the same period last year when it sold 1,378, up 18 percent. This marks the fourth consecutive month that PCNA has recorded an increase in year-over-year sales from 2008. In its first full month, Porsche’s new four-door Panamera recorded sales of 366 units, while total Cayenne sales were 632, and sports car sales totaled 678.

Porsche’s overall year-to-date sales in 2009 are 17,578 compared to the same period last year when sales were 23,881, a decrease of 26 percent. For the month, Porsche’s Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales were 508, compared to 416 for the same month last year, a 22 percent increase.
