Gastro-restart

The period of gastronomic drought is over. The time of deliveries and gorging on food from a box has become a thing of the past. We are once again going to restaurants, sitting down at the table and enjoying human company and food served the way it should be. What has changed in the Brno scene? Restaurants have opened and are preparing a lot of new things! What can we do to fix our appetite after a long fast? What will be on the summer menu of sunny terraces? Which establishments are returning with unexpected specialties? And where have new bars or cafés opened? Among the new venues, we can recommend a visit to the vegan paradise Dhaba Beas in Panská Street, the Donuter doughnut shop in the same street, the outdoor bar Tyjátr on Špilberk, or the great Vietnamese bistro Domovina in the gastronomically packed environment of Vegetable Marker (Zelný trh), where you can also find the outdoor bar of the Craft Beer Bottleshop & Bar tavern. You shouldn’t miss the stylish Ignis Club pipe bar in the SC Letmo, where you can drink delicious drinks through a pleasant mist of sweet smoke. Have you ever tried a beer praline? Try the one from the CHOKLID chocolate factory! The Element Bar will make you great cocktails not only in Běhounská Street, but also at the stand on Liberty Square (Náměstí Svobody). What new beers will bring summer thirst? Have a glass of Double Nelson from Lucky Bastard, a well-known Brno brewery specialising in topfermented beers. And if you’re not tired of the experience yet, sit in the new enlarged terrace of Pablo EscoBAR and have one of their great burgers, wash it down with something cold and know that summer in Brno offers more options than ever before!

Grab a beer!

The South Moravian Region is a brewing superpower: with more than 60 breweries and microbreweries, we hold the first place in the country with a comfortable lead. And new ones are still being established! Despite the challenging times we have been through. The unquenchable thirst of South Moravians and beer tourists is turning the wine superpower in a completely new direction: breweries are not afraid to experiment and are increasingly including various specials and top-fermented beers in their offer. In the section called “Grab a beer!”, we have prepared a clear map for you (which you can certainly read even without knowing Czech). The chapter also features a beer typology according to the type of fermentation, so you can get a better idea of the offer that awaits you in Brno and its surroundings. In the Moravian capital itself, beer

Photo: Pocket media/Ivo Dvořák is brewed in 16 breweries; among the new ones we can mention the EFI Brewery on 28 October Square (náměstí 28. Října) or the KOS Brewery, or during the autumn, the number will increase by the Poupě Brewery House. Would you like to go out of town for a beer, but you don’t want to go far? Take a drive to Sivice, where you’ll find Beer Daddy, a family-run craft brewery with a beer garden. Or take it to Rozdrojovice, you can pick up Rojc beers directly from the brewery or sample them at U Helánů. The District of Brno-Country is also a very strong beer district, especially Tišnov and its surroundings. Do you wish to combine tasting with a hike or a ride? Try the Tišnov Beer Trail, which will take you on foot, by bicycle or by train and bus through the beautiful countryside to places where you can taste beers from seven different breweries. Last year, our editorial team walked the route (on their own!) in two very fruitful days in full of beer and experiences.

Made in Brno

Sustainable, seasonal, fresh, full of flavour, made with love and humility for the earth. We should support local producers and small farmers not only for their quality products and produce, but also for their sustainable farming, fair cooperation and years of work passed down from generation to generation and often not even seen. It is also about our attitude to food. We have a closer relationship with ingredients that didn’t fly halfway across the planet to us, we know the story of a particular producer or grower and we value their work. Our Made in Brno section is about the fact that many local ingredients and products are grown and produced in Brno, but often remain unknown. Which of our Brno products do we recommend you to try? The Sady Nový Lískovec fruit-growing cooperative has apples, pears, apricots, peaches, plums, cherries, potatoes, and cabbage grown by their own hands. In addition, the cooperative produces its own 100% fruit ciders, dries the fruit and offers delivery of seasonal fruit boxes, suitable for example for larger teams and companies. You can also taste Brno gin from Little Urban Distillery, an independent craft distillery. It is made by distilling juniper and other local fruits and herbs such as apples, rowans, sea buckthorns, angelica, and lime and elderflower. What else? Ice cream from Ještě Jednu, kombucha from LokLok, strawberries from Jahodárna Dostálovi, HUHU Chilli, coffee from QB coffee roasters, pates from Paštikárna Jelínkovi, marmalades from Treperendy, chocolate from Ajala Chocolate, smoked fish from small farms from Trnečka Smoked Fish, or edible insects from Grig!
