Refund policy

Any refund/withdrawal request for recreation services or activities will be pro-rated and charged an administration fee of $5 for each individual activity withdrawal.

No charge for activity transfers.

Refund requests will be accepted up to the third class of a registered activity or up to 48 hours prior to a single-day registered activity.

Seven days notice is required to withdraw from camps.

All membership plans are non-transferable and non-refundable. Call 604 927 7529 with any questions.

Enjoy a half day afternoon skate camp on your next Pro D Day! New and experienced skaters learn and strengthen FUNdamental skating skills, play ice sports and then enjoy creative activities off the ice.

What to Bring: Large NUT FREE snack and water bottle, gloves, sweatshirt or jacket and waterproof pants for ice, NO SHORTS. Program includes skates and helmet if needed. Runners for activities. Age: 6–10

HIGH FIVE PHCD TRAINING

Train to work with children. Learn the Principles of Healthy Child Development and gain a understanding of the High Five quality assurance process for children’s sport and recreation programs. This is an excellent, British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association approved course for those wanting to work with children 4–12 years in a recreation setting. 100% participation is mandatory. PRO D DAY SKATE, BIKE, SWIM CAMP

A day of fun skating, biking and swimming! Experienced riders have fun rain or shine at the local Community Centre and nearby parks. Campers provide their own bike and helmet; skating equipment will be provided for them. Prerequisite: Must be able to ride long distances at a constant pace. Bikes must have inflated tires, working breaks and chain, and NO training wheels. Completion of Little Sprockets 2nd Gear or ability to ride independently and longer distances required to register.

• Participants currently enrolled in a skate program may not be on another wait list.

• Participants not currently enrolled in a lesson set can be added to multiple waitlists.

• Participants must successfully complete a skate level prior to registering in the next level.

• Additional skate lesson registrations will result in participant being withdrawn from additional registrations (refund policy in effect).

• Drop in during a public skate for an evaluation if you are unsure of your child’s level.

Qualified and experienced staff provide technical and fun instruction following the Long-Term Development Framework with program focusing on Awareness, First Involvement, Active Start and FUNdamentals. Low student to staff ratios support skaters as they learn, strengthen and improve skating skills.

It’s cold, slippery but most of all fun! Parents support their children as they learn to skate while playing with toys and participating in interactive games. Skaters learn how to stand, balance, fall, march forward and turn! Skates and helmet free of charge to parents and children, or slip on cleats and helmets provided to parents free of charge too. The final level of the City’s Learn to Skate program focuses on speed and technique to perform forward and backward skating and crossovers, slaloms, tight turns, pivots and stopping Lesson fee includes skates and helmet.

YOUTH LEVEL 1

Have you always wanted to learn to skate? Learn fundamental skating skills in a supportive and fun youth only program. Participants new to skating learn to balance, understand edges, walk forward then develop a stride, glide, stop and then be introduced to backwards skating. LITTLE SPROCKETS

FIRST GEAR

Looking to remove your training wheels and pedal a two wheeler on your own? Parent participation required to offer hands on support to new riders during this one hour program inside the Port Coquitlam Community Centre arena. Focus is on having fun while maneuvering through interactive circuits and learning about bike and street safety. Requirements: Is this the right level for my child? If participants can start their bike from a stationary position and then ride forward independently without training wheels, participants do not need to attend First Gear prior to registering for Second Gear. Equipment: Participants supply their own bike with training wheels on, helmet, and water bottle. Equipment tip: Success happens with bikes that are the right size. Riders must be able to sit on the bike and have their toes touch the ground to successfully learn to ride independently. Age: 4–8

Steer and break with confidence, maneuver through obstacle courses, over small ramps and teeter tooters first indoors at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre and then outdoors at Gates Park. Crosswalk and road safety training support short out trips along local bike paths to Gates Park. Prerequisite: Completion of Port Coquitlam First Gear or ability to ride independently and start from a stationary position. Aquatic Programs

• Participants may only register for one swim lesson set (including performance enhancers).

• Participants currently enrolled in a swim lesson set may be added to one waitlist of same level.

• Participants not currently enrolled in a lesson set can be added to multiple waitlists.

FENCING – YOUTH BEGINNERS

Offered by the Tri-City Fencing Academy. Our youth program begins with a four-session introductory class, quickly teaching the basic actions of the sport, allowing students to progress in their skills in a short time. Fencing is a great cardiovascular workout, improving hand-eye co-ordination, concentration, mental focus and physical stamina. It provides a fun and competitive atmosphere that builds self-confidence and respect. All equipment is provided. Age: 9–15

FENCING – L1 TRAINING PROGRAM

Prerequisite: Fencing – Youth Beginners or Fencing – Children Beginners 2 Offered by the Tri-City Fencing Academy. After completion of a beginners program, students enter our L1 (9–10 yrs) or L1 (11–15 yrs) training program. Younger students will be learning in this L1 program until they reach the age of 11, older students 3–9 months, as they develop strong technical sport fencing basics. A $100 deposit is necessary to sign-out equipment and due on the first session.

YOUTH LED BASKETBALL TRAINING

Youth mentors with a passion for basketball provide a safe, fun environment where players can enjoy and learn the game of basketball. Offering adapted and integrated programming for all skills and abilities. This also includes drop in gym admission. Volunteers must be in grades 10–12 (ages 15–18 years old) contact 604-927-7962 for additional information.

FENCING – L2/3 TRAINING PROGRAM

Prerequisite: L1 Training Program Offered by the Tri-City Fencing Academy. After graduation from an L1 program, fencers move into our L2 program. Students will be learning in the L2 program for 1–2 years as they move from basic skills to more advanced technical and tactical knowledge and more involvement in competitions. These programs are skills assessment based, using an advancement system from the Canadian Fencing Federation similar to other martial arts programs. Students are required to have their own equipment for L2 and L3 programs. Age: 11–20

The City of Port Coquitlam Artist-in-Residence program offers opportunities for artists to work in the community, develop arts-based engagement activities, and deliver creative projects that generate meaningful connections. Meet Port Coquitlam’s new Artist in Residence, Marn Norwich.

Marn Norwich is a writing workshop facilitator, writing coach, poet and playwright. Her poetry book, Wildflowers at my doorstep (Karma Press), won an Independent Publisher Book Award.

During her residency, Marn will launch the Muse Project, a series of writing workshops on the theme of Connection. These workshops will present an opportunity for Port Coquitlam residents to engage their creativity, connect deeply to their truest stories and contact their wild and unique wisdom by participating in the writing process. The workshops will culminate in a community reading. She’ll also provide one-on-one writing mentorship for community members.

Marn will facilitate an all-ages Earth-Walk + Write event as part of the City’s Centennial May Day celebration. In our May Day Art Zone, she’ll lead a springtime–vision writing workshop for children in the Magic Tent, a world where transformation is possible!
