Learn How to Lead a Fall Prevention Workshop

The Legacy Trauma Nurses Talk Tough (TNTT) team will be providing training for community members, virtually and in person, who are interested in providing fall prevention workshops to seniors in their community.

To community educators, we will provide free of charge, training materials, a $25 gift card for their participation in training, and free fall prevention items to distribute to seniors in their communities.

The training will educate on the following topics:

• Senior fall prevention

• How to work with older adults including multiple ways to enhance learning, technology considerations, and visual and auditory considerations.

• Tips for working with difficult participants (I.e., participants who talk too much or don’t participate at all).

• Ways to validate participant stories and connect them back to the workshop.

This training will allow you to learn the TNTT Fall Prevention curriculum in-depth, providing you the materials to share this educational resource with your community. We will provide materials for attendees to assess their risk of falling as well as assessing their home safety. The training will focus on a few key topics that are important to understanding and preventing falls. These topics are:

• Concussions and brain health

• Medication interactions

• Common reasons for falling

• Behavioral and environmental risk factors

• Small steps you can take to prevent falls

How does this work?

This will be a two hour in-person or virtual training which will consist of concussion training information, ways to present the material, considerations for working with older adults, and information on how to set-up presentations in the community (technology resources, contacts, timing).

In the second half of the session, you will get the opportunity to practice parts of the presentation in front of a small group and get tips and feedback to have a successful workshop. You will also receive the technology equipment you will need to present in the community if needed (projector and USB).
