A Year of Legends From a reclusive tenant who read the Bible to her dogs to the peculiar aristocrat who razed his castle to the ground to deter trespassers, Portmeirion has long been a stronghold for eccentrics
– Sir Clough Williams-Ellis being a prime example. The visionary built the Italianate village in rural Wales as architectural propaganda before going out with a bang - literally. His ashes went up in a firework. To celebrate 2017’s year of legends, Portmeirion has an itinerary of events and stories throughout the year, starting with our interactive history cards.
