TESTIMONIES
The Impact We Make “The Colorado Springs Senior Center brings joy and happiness to me because it gives seniors a place to feel comfortable and at home. There are so many classes and event for everyone to participate in. The camaraderie and line dance instructor is my favorite part of the center.” – Ruben T.
“I moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to family and I looked up the local senior center. I have been coming every day since. The Senior Center has helped me to live longer to my now 99th year. It is my reason to get up and go every day.” - Bud G.
“I feel like one of your lost sheep. You invited me into a warm nonthreatening place after years of wandering in a sometimes hostile world. You gave me back my purpose and life. You gave me value and I love you so much.” - Darcy M.
“The Senior Center gives me a place to be social and meet lots of new friends. The staff is helpful, friendly and kind. If the center was not here I would be stuck at home. I have been blessed and now I can volunteer, paying it forward to others at the center.” – Margie T.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Colorado Springs Senior Center complies with the ADA and will make reasonable accommodations (i.e., sign language interpreter, Braille format, adaptive equipment) to enable people with disabilities to participate and enjoy recreation and education programs. Please note that all of the buses used for day trips are wheelchair accessible; however, if you need additional assistance on the trip or are in a wheelchair, you must notify the Senior Center when registering. Some trip destinations may not be fully accessible and staff will share what they know to help you make an informed decision.
Refund Policy
The Colorado Springs Senior Center depends on registrations from classes for the revenue to pay instructors and produce the variety of classes we offer. For this reason, classes may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Therefore, we have designed refund guidelines to ensure we can retain quality instructors and ensure classes are not cancelled unnecessarily.
Registering by lottery for day trips
Please review the guidelines below and ask questions before cancelling your registration.
You will be given a time to call the center back to see if you have made the trip. Once the trip is filled, we will continue to draw names for a waiting list.
• Payment in full must accompany your registration. A full refund or credit will be issued if the Senior Center cancels a class OR if you cancel more than one week prior to the start of the class. • Please let the staff person know if you want a refund or credit. If your original payment was made by credit card, a refund can be made to the card used. If payment was made by check or cash, please allow 2-3 weeks for a refund check to be mailed to you. • Credits must be used within 12 months of issue date. • A 50% credit will be issued after the class has begun only if the cancellation is for a medical reason. We must be notified of your class cancellation within the semester time frame of the current class session. • No refund or credit is given if notification is made less than one week before the class start date or after the class has started. • Class fees will not be prorated due to revenue planning purposes. • Class registration closes 24 hours before the class begins.
Call 719.955.3400 or come in and put your name in the basket from 8 - 10 a.m. on the day of the registration lottery. No group registrations are allowed, but feel free to include the name of one friend or your spouse on your form.
If there is a cancellation, we will call in order from the waiting list. If your spouse or travel partner cancels, you must notify the Center. You cannot fill the vacancy yourself. We need to respect those patrons on the waiting list. If you require assistance, you must notify staff at the time of registration lottery. Caregivers or assistants must be included on your registration lottery form. Trip Payment & Refund Policy Payment must be made within 3 business days of being notified that you are on the trip. Refunds are only offered if you cancel one week before the trip date or if the Senior Center cancels the trip. If canceling less than a week before the trip, total trip cost is forfeited. Tickets to shows or events cannot be refunded or credited.

Balancing Wellness How do you describe wellness? Is it eating salads for one week out of the year; taking a walk in the morning; getting a flu shot? Wellness is so much more than just changing a few habits in your life. “Holistic wellness is about the whole person and not the parts, according to Dr. Jennifer Hunter, a senior fellow at the National Institute of Complementary Medicine in Sydney, Australia. Wellness is a balancing act of many different components. A good way to visualize this is picturing a car. Without the tires the car will not move even if the engine is working. Likewise is wellness in our lives. If a part of ourselves is missing we are not able to be our very best. So how do you become balanced? How can you become well? Dr. Bill Hettler, co-founder of the National Wellness Institute, provided the answer. Dr. Hettler developed what is known as the six dimensions of wellness. These dimensions are emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical, occupational and social wellness. All of these components are interconnected and work well in synergy with one another. Giving attention to each dimension will help create a balance of wellness in your life. Emotional wellness is being aware and able to manage feelings in a realistic and positive way. You are equipped to handle stressors from life by staying positive with enthusiasm.
Spiritual wellness is connecting or grounding into something greater. It is seeking meaning and purpose into human existence. It is being part of a spiritual or a religious group, finding connectedness in meditation, being in nature, or finding inner peace. Intellectual wellness is engaging in creative activities, seeking opportunities that challenge critical thinking, and expanding understanding. Physical wellness is keeping your body moving. Spend time each day being physically active; maintaining a healthy diet, and getting plenty of sleep. Many studies have shown that physical wellness protects from chronic disease and improves quality of life. Occupational wellness is giving back to the world and others in various ways. It is having a purpose for waking up in the morning. This can be seen through the role of a grandparent, volunteering, being involved in a group or club. Social wellness is the creation of community. Whether you are an introverted or extroverted person everyone needs to have a community. This is where a group of people count on you as much as you count on them. Take time to foster meaningful relationships. As you can see each dimension of wellness is intertwined. When one part is not receiving as much attention, another part overcompensates. As an example, if the only focus is physical wellness, then time is not being given to grow occupational wellness, and you will lose touch in finding reason to wake up in the morning. The goal is to have balance in all dimensions of wellness which ties together the beautiful you. Your local senior center or active adults programs are a great place to help strengthen your dimensions of wellness. At senior centers you will Continued on next page

Call For Donations As people age, they can become solitary and disconnected from their family and community. Many times, this is magnified due to a lack of financial resources. You can change the world of a senior who lives on a limited income. You can offer them the opportunity to take classes, get away on fun day trips, and attend special events with people from their own generation. Your donation will allow a senior struggling with financial challenges to join the Senior Center and enjoy conversation, camaraderie and a cup of coffee with friends. Donations of any size are very much appreciated. For only $135, you can sponsor a full year’s worth of activities for a patron. Donations are accepted all year around and can also be made online on our website at csseniorcenter.com. Fundraising events and effort will be offered throughout the year. The Center is always in need of in kind donations such as copy paper, stamps, envelops, unopened coffee, tea, plastic cutlery, paper plates, and plastic cups. Your support to the Senior Center is greatly appreciated.
