Testimonies
Cheryl Mention
Cheryl Mention had just retired from her career in insurance. She didn’t know what to do with her time now that she wasn’t working, and her mother encouraged her to get involved at the Senior Center. It was at that time the Senior Center started to roll out their SilverSneakers Classes. Cheryl toured the center and got involved in SilverSneakers classes. They became her lifeline. They gave her a reason to get up in the morning and allowed her to form solid friendship. After some time, Cheryl began to feel that she was getting ill. Betty, a friend she made in the SilverSneakers classes, encouraged her to go to the doctor. Cheryl went in to get checked out and found out she had cancer. Cheryl believes that if it wasn’t for Betty, she would not have gone to see a doctor. Today, Cheryl is cancer free and loving life. She is active and participates in day trips, lifelong learning classes, and leads a social group called “Blue Moai” at the Senior Center. Cheryl says that the Senior Center saved her life, not only from cancer, but also from loneliness. The programs we offer through the Y at the Senior Center are more than just classes - they have the power to change people’s lives!
Richard Gallentine
I want to thank the Senior Center staff and volunteers. They make the center a nice place for my father and myself to come and socialize with others. The Senior Center is the main reason for his continued existence. It gives him a reason to keep living. He would be at the center every day if it was open. I will continue to bring him as long as he is able. The programs at the center give us both mental and physical exercise. We are so very thankful for the Colorado Springs Senior Center.

Refund Policy
The Colorado Springs Senior Center depends on registrations from classes for the revenue to pay instructors and produce the variety of classes we offer. For this reason, classes may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Therefore, we have designed refund guidelines to ensure we can retain quality instructors and ensure classes are not cancelled unnecessarily. Please review the guidelines below and ask questions before cancelling your registration. • Payment in full must accompany your registration. A full refund or credit will be issued if the Senior Center cancels a class OR if you cancel more than one week prior to the start of the class. • Please let the staff person know if you want a refund or credit. If your original payment was made by credit card, a refund can be made to the card used. If payment was made by check or cash, please allow 2-3 weeks for a refund check to be mailed to you. • No refund or credit is given if notification is made less than one week before the class start date or after the class has started. • A 50% credit will be issued after the class has begun only if the cancellation is for a medical reason. We must be notified of your class cancellation within the semester time frame of the current class session. • Credits must be used within 12 months of issue date. • Class fees will not be prorated due to revenue planning purposes. • Class registration closes 24 hours before the class begins. csseniorcenter.com • 719.955.3400

Colorado Springs Senior Center
Annual Support Campaign Imagine spending every day lonely and isolated in your home. Ponder waking up in the morning not having a purpose or a reason to live. Feeling trapped and not having an outlet to meet others and find community. For many seniors, that is a reality they may be forced to face. Thankfully, the Colorado Springs Senior Center provides critical services to ensure all seniors can live fulfilled happy lives. The Senior Center is a community educational and recreational facility where all seniors have the opportunity to increase their social connectedness while staying mentally and physically active with little to no cost to them.
Your support and donations help create a safe space for seniors: To Connect and Feel Known
The moment seniors walk in the doors, they are warmly welcomed and connected with others. From the caring staff and expert instructors to friends both new and old, the Senior Center provides a community for seniors to socialize, make friends, discover commonalities, and find a sense of belonging.
To Be Active and Healthy
Staying active is critical to ensure long-term health. At the Senior Center, our low-cost classes improve balance, prevent falls, and promote overall health. Line dancing, yoga, tai chi and strength training classes not only provide seniors a chance to move, but also connect with one another and well-trained passionate instructors.
Social isolation amongst seniors is a serious issue. Studies have shown that isolation increases the risk of mental and physical illnesses. In fact, the health risks of prolonged isolation are equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. According to AARPConnect2Affect, 17 percent of American adults 65 and older are isolated. Research shows a 26 percent increased risk of death due to subjective feeling of loneliness. At the Senior Center, a friendly, supportive environment ensure no senior in our region ever feels alone. csseniorcenter.com • 719.955.3400
