PERSONALIZED TRAINING Personal training has something to offer everyone, whether you are a rookie to the gym, an experienced exerciser or just someone who needs help creating an exercise routine. Our nationally certified personal trainers will create the best plan for you to achieve your fitness goals the fastest in a safe environment. They will work when and where it’s convenient to you, and will keep you accountable to your goals while answering your questions and supporting your needs.

Individual Training

Every day, people resolve to get more fit. However, many goal-setters do not have a plan or know how to tackle their goal. Another factor can be a lack of accountability - no one is holding you to meeting that goal. A personal trainer can serve as a resource in meeting your goals. Personal training begins with a consultation with one of the Y’s certified personal trainers. During that time, the trainer learns about you, your interests and your goals. The trainer then works with you to develop an action plan to realize your goals.

Small Group Training

Small Group Training at the Y takes all the elements of one-onone personal training and puts them into application within a group of 2-5 individuals. This is a great way to rally your friends to get fit while still receiving individualized attention from a fitness professional, in addition to splitting the cost!

Buddy Training

If you’re looking for the intensity and personal attention of individual training but the camaraderie and cost of small group training, buddy training is for you! Grab a friend and split the cost of personal training sessions two ways.

Nutritional Counseling

Looking to change your lifestyle completely? Get answers to your questions regarding fad diets, supplements, weight loss, disease prevention and more in a one-on-one Nutrition Counseling Session with one of our dietitians.

Youth Swim Lessons & Programs Y Swim Lesson curriculum is based on a continuum that focuses on a skill-based progression that builds confidence and supports swimming skills. There are three phases. Each phase is broken into specific stages that are designed specifically for that age group based on cognitive and social ability.

Swim lessons are offered each month so you can pick a time that’s right for you!

Swim Starters

children 6-36 months Close supervision is the best way to prevent drowning. Parents and caregivers will learn how to supervise children in the water, how to prevent accidents and plan for emergencies. This program also promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness for children aged six months to three years.

Stage A - Water Discovery Parents accompany children in this class which introduces babies to the aquatic environment through exploration that encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water.

Stage B - Water Exploration Parents are guided to work with their child to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles, fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

Swim Strokes Swim Basics

children 3-12 years Designed for preschool and elementary school children, a foundation of water safety and drowning prevention is made by teaching water adjustment and skill readiness for children from three to twelve years of age.

Stage 1 - Water Acclimation Swimmers are introduced to the pool and develop safe water habits in a fun environment. Children develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage builds the foundation for the child’s future progress.

Stage 2 - Water Movement Children are taught skills that focus on body position and control, forward movement and directional change. This stage also reinforces how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Stage 3 - Water Stamina Children focus on swimming longer distances and are introduced to rotary breathing and integrated limb action. In the event of falling into a body of water, children learn how to swim, move to safety and exit.

children 5-12 years After fundamentals are mastered, children begin to learn personal water safety, character development and build competitive stroke technique.

Stage 4 - Stroke Introduction Swimmers focus developing basic swimming strokes and personal water safety. Goals include: • Develop the frontcrawl and backcrawl strokes • Introduce components of the breaststroke and butterfly strokes • Practice safety in deep water

Stage 5 - Stroke Development Students continue to work on their stroke technique and all major competitive strokes are introduced. Goals include: • Develop stamina in the frontcrawl and backcrawl strokes • Develop the breaststroke and butterfly strokes • Build endurance techniques for deep water safety

Stage 6 - Stroke Mechanics Students refine their stroke technique on all of the major strokes and learn about competitive swimming. Goals include: • Develop endurance in the competitive strokes • Develop skills related to competitive swimming • Enhance skills and build endurance in deep water

Dance & Gymnastics

Participating in gymnastics and dance helps kids become more active, build strength, and improve flexibility, speed, balance, coordination and discipline. Our dance classes offer a non-competitive environment for children to engage in the benefits of a high-quality program without the high prices.

Offered at select centers - check with your local Y for availability.

Camp Shady Brook

Day Camp

On the surface, Camp Shady Brook summer camp gives kids a chance to learn about nature, make new friends and get the most out of summer. But on a deeper level, our programs help kids build self-confidence and social skills while teaching them how to be compassionate, responsible leaders. We strive to give campers opportunities to find out who they are and who they want to be, and provide the tools, support and encouragement to help them become that person.

Day Camps offer enriching activities where friends are made through group games, sports and fitness, hands-on science activities, arts and crafts, music and swimming. All activities are based on a weekly camp theme. Camps provide fun, child-centered activities and opportunities for learning through discovery. Day Camps challenge children to grow in imagination, creativity, selfdirected initiative and leadership.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Interested in volunteering? Families, children, teens and adults can all volunteer at their local Y! Teens can earn volunteer hours helping out at Tween Nights or special events, while adults can volunteer, join a committee, join the Y board or help out with fundraising. You can also volunteer as a coach for youth sports! Check with your local Y for volunteer opportunities and ways you can give back. Everything the Y does is in service of making us all better – ourselves, our families, and our entire community. From sports and fitness to child care and education, the Y fills the gaps where society falls short, and gives us all a place to play, learn, be healthy and give back. Whether you join the Y, donate or volunteer, you strengthen yourself and everyone around you.

About the Y

Throughout Colorado Springs, Falcon, Fountain and Monument, the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region serves over 115,000 people in the community with over 1,000 dedicated and missionfocused staff members and volunteers. The Y is so much more than a gym. We’re a cause, dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. From exercise to education, volleyball to volunteerism, swim lessons to scholarships, the Y is here for all. The Y doesn’t just strengthen our bodies, it strengthens our community.

Annual Support Campaign Access for All

The Y is for all - regardless of means. The Annual Support Campaign makes it possible. At the Y, strengthening the community is our cause. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That’s why we focus our work in three areas: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Y members can feel confident knowing that they are part of an organization that cares greatly for the well-being of all. When you give to the Annual Support Campaign, you provide your neighbors with the opportunity to create a better quality of life through the Y.

Join our cause. For a Better Us. From exercise to education, volleyball to volunteerism, swim lessons to scholarships – the Y is here for all. Give today at ppymca.org/donate.
