Concentricity Gauge This type of indicator was designed specifically for checking rotating diameters and in fact is exactly the type of gauge used in the machining industry for decades to measure run out; the very thing that we as hand loaders are striving to minimize or eliminate. At 21 Century Shooting it is our goal to modernize an industry that has seen little change over the years. Our concentricity gauge is a perfect example. st

This makes it very easy to control feed rate of the cutting operation, generating a very fine turned finish. Case holder drivers are designed to be the most gentle driver, yet providing an adequate hold.

2014 Score Nationals! Mike Bigelow & Sam Small are Big Winners at Casper by David Halblom The 2014 Score Nationals in Casper, Wyoming has set a new standard for others to follow and exceed in the future. A total of 57 shooters competed, 51 shooters competed in Hunter Benchrest, 55 shooters in Varmint for Score, and 45 shooters put it all together and shot for the first ever 2-Gun Score National Trophy. Monday dawned very cool and clear, but didn’t stay that way long. The winds of Wyoming taught us all who was truly in charge. There were some pretty spectacular crash and burns throughout the day. When the dust settled at the end of the day, Mike Bigelow had won the 100 yard HBR and Dan Zaccanti the 100 yard VFS. Tuesday’s 200 yard competition again started cool and clear, but the winds started early and again the cream rose to the top. There were no clean shooters in HBR, with Bob Cole winning. There were only 2 250’s shot in VFS with Leonard Hensley (pg 5 left) showing us there is a true advantage in shooting in those conditions all the time. When the first 2 day’s scores were sorted out, Mike Bigelow (pg 5 right) became the 2014 HBR Champion with a score of 497-19X and Leonard Hensley is the 2014 VFS Champion with 500-26X. Sam Small is the inaugural RG Robinett/Dan Hackett Memorial 2-Gun Score trophy winner with a score of 995-37X. Wednesday was the beginning of the Long Range portion of the Nationals and saw another set of winners who put on a benchrest school for the rest
of us. Former National Champion RG Robinett showed how it is done with a 6X scope by shooting a 249-5X and Dan Zaccanti shot the only clean score in VFS with a 250-3X. Thursday morning was the first time all week that Mother Nature threatened to dampen our fun, but she managed just to blow us around during the competition and teardown. With rain threatening all day, Dean Thomas won the 300 yard HBR and Mike Bigelow the 300 yard VFS. When the final tallying was finished, Greg Swezey (see Lilja ad pg 5 lower right) was the 2014 LR HBR Champion and Dean Thomas the 2104 LR VFS Champion and Mike Bigelow was the 2014 LR 2-Gun Score Champion. We had to take a break during the awards ceremony because Mother Nature finally delivered on her threat and we were witness to a classic mountain cloudburst. Lots of wet vehicle interiors. As you can see by the top 5 lists, there were a lot of top shooters in Casper this August. Former Champions, new Champions, long time shooters, and new shooters, all having a great time and enjoying the first ever NBRSA Score Nationals. Thanks go out to Tim Naugle, his crew and especially to the wives who stepped up when the food vendor fell through. Casper 2014 will very much be one to be remembered for years to come. Tri-Cities Washington July Hunter Benchrest Not to many showed up for our July shoot with it being right in the middle of the busy season. Wheat harvest, the raging forest fires, price of fuel, lack of powder, primers, old age, poor eye sight and the hydro-plane boat races going on in the Tri-Cities this weekend distracted some but of the six of us that showed up we had a good time. Once again you won’t see my name in the top five but I want you to know that it is just part of being a good host. How could I expect my friends to show up to a match that I am running and then out shoot them? Poor manners I say. Name Dick Mayer Glenn Sampson Tom Halecki Rick Ekwortzel Paul Gylling

The Palomino Valley Gun Club hosted the 2014 NBRSA Long Range Varmint Nationals on September 6th & 7th at the Washoe County Regional Shooting Facility north of Reno, NV. Nine competitors braved the windy conditions on Saturday to shoot LV 300 in the morning. Arizona’s Pete Savage fired a winning agg of .3371. Jan Sarras finished second and Steve Archibald was third, both with the only other aggregates in the threes. Everet Smith shot a small group of 0.518”. After a short break to change rifles, HV 300 was contested in similar conditions as LV. Jan Sarras dominated by shooting consistently and took the win with a .4004 agg. Don Archibald joined the other competitors to shoot for the day. Beginning the morning with HV, Mark Ronchetti won the agg with a .2899. Steve Archibald was a close second and Everet Smith finished third. Lonnie Gordon shot the small group of 0.363”. We are also grateful for our Match Director Steve Archibald who provided all of the materials and repairs needed to run a sanctioned match. Jan Sarras provided the logistics and camped out at the range to ensure the competitors’ equipment was secure. Jan’s wife Kerri and her sister Kelly Marsh provided all of the target pulling and scoring and we couldn’t hold our matches without them. Thank you!

Visalia UNL & HV Results by Bill Mellor
The Visalia Unlimited is part of the Southwest regional Four Gun. The Varmint classes were held during the Labor Day match. The turnout for the June Unlimited was less than usual, which was probably due to shooting the Unlimited class and some of the shooters went to larger matches that were held out of state. The weather was on the warm side, with the temperature hovering near the 100⁰ mark both days. Fortunately there was a breeze both days this made things more comfortable while causing some moaning and
groaning from a few competitors. The HV100 first place trophy went to Tom De Bacco with a .2088 aggregate. Joe Stanovich took second place with a .2118 and third went to Norm Jeffery shooting a .2288. The small group was Joe Stanovich’s .121. Lawrence Weisdorn took over for the HV200 and won first place with a .2871 aggregate. Dennis Thornbury took second with a .3295 agg and third was Norm Jeffery shooting a .3331. Russ Hessey shot a .403 group to win the small group trophy. The HV Grand winner was a close call with Norm Jeffery winning the first place trophy with a .2810 agg. Second place was Lawrence Weisdorn with a .2826 and Tom DeBacco placed third with a .2862 agg, who made the trip from Arizona and brought along his son, Tony De Bacco. Fourth place went to Dennis Thornbury with a .3126 agg and in fifth place shooting a .3243 agg was Russ Hessey. Dennis Thornbury had the conditions for the Unlimited 100 yard five shot match figured out very well. Dennis shot three small one’s and two screamers for a .1356 aggregate to win the first place trophy. Dennis also won the small group trophy with a .049 screamer. The target was submitted for a possible new record. Congratulations Dennis. Francis Lee shot a nice .2166 agg.

Rogue Valley Sport Shooting Assn’s 600-Yard Benchrest
John Crawford Takes The Win & NBRSA gains a new member... Meet Katlin Sulffridge
We had a very nice 600 yard match on June 22 with a few switchy conditions. We would like to welcome three new shooters that made it and supported us; Dan Zaccanti the Northwest Regional Director joined us and shot a borrowed rifle from a friend. He is now going to build his own rifle for shooting future matches. The other two new shooters were a father daughter duo; Richard Sulffridge brought his daughter Katlin, (seen above) who shot a rifle borrowed from Curt Mendenhall. Katlin had a very nice sweet 16 as she placed in three events with the rifle built by Curt on a Savage action. Curt worked it out with Richard Sulffridge and Richard now owns the rifle for his daughter Katlin to shoot at up coming matches. She placed second in light gun 3-target group and third in heavy gun 3-target score and third in the Two Gun, 6-target group. She is a new member of NBRSA and plans to take the guys on in future competitions. Look out boys, this girl can shoot. In light gun score the top three shooters are, John Crawford first with a 143-1X, Larry Kahle with a 133-1X and Bruce Bangeman with 133-1X. Larry came in second with small group as the tie breaker. In Light Gun Group,
first was Larry Kahle with a 3.0570 agg, second was Katlin Sulffridge with a 3.3697 agg and third was John Crawford with a 3.4967 agg. In heavy gun score Larry Kahle was first with a high score of 261-1X, then John Crawford with a 258-0X followed by Katlin Sulffrige with a 252-0X. In Heavy Gun Group Richard Sulffridge was first with a 4.2673 agg second was John Crawford with a 4.587 agg third was Kevin Watson with a 5.4180 agg. In two gun score John Crawford was first with a 401-1X then Larry Kahle was second with a 394-3X and third was Richard Sulffridge with a score of 377-0X. In two gun group Richard

Sulfridge was first with a 3.9468 agg group second was John Crawford with a 4.0092 agg third was Katlin Sulffridge with a 4.9272 agg. Bruce Bangeman shot the light gun high score with a high score of 133-1X. Carl Hansen shot the light gun small group at 2.1150. In heavy gun John Crawford shot a high score at 96-0X and the small group was shot by non other than Bruce Bangeman at 1.9340. Given Bruce was on the second relay with switching conditions shooting a light gun it was a smoking hot little 10 shot group. I would like to thank all who showed up and congratulations to the Sulffridge family for a great first match. Another worthy mention was Larry Kahle and Carl Hansen who had a very nice showing. The overall winner for the 600yard match at Rogue Valley Shooting Sports Assn. was John Crawford. Congratulations to John Crawford. Yellowstone Rifle Club’s Montana State Championship Don Mulhall Wins Two Gun & LV; Jeff Wardlow Takes HV by Ryan Lienemann, Match Director
The Yellowstone Rifle Club hosted the Montana State Light and Heavy Varmint championship benchrest match on July 26-27. We had a decent turnout of shooters with 15 in the LV class on Saturday and 14 on Sunday in HV. Temperatures were in the upper 80’s with clear skies and moderate winds. The stage was set nicely for our first group match of the year. Don Mulhall started the weekend off by winning the LV100 match with a .2054 aggregate. His .132 in match 1 and .153 in match 4 sealed the deal. Richard Debick came in second with a .2860 aggregate and was followed by Jack Foster in third with a .2926. Jack Foster also claimed the LV100 small group award with a nice .117 in match 3. The morning conditions weren’t too bad with mild winds predominating, but things started to pick up a bit towards the end of the match with groups in the mid two’s being all that the best shooters could muster in match 5. After a filling lunch, we rotated five benches and reset our flags in preparation of the afternoon LV200 match. As if on cue, the switching winds of

November, 2014 Precision Rifleman the Yellowstone range started up just as the match got underway to make things a little more interesting at 200 yards. Local Billings shooter Dave Hellekson used his experience at this range effectively to put up a first place win with a .3359 aggregate. Dave’s .319 in match 1 set the bar high and ended up being the smallest group of the afternoon. Don Mulhall still had things pretty well figured out and finished with a .3763 that earned him the second place trophy. Mel Klasi took third with a .3897 and came close to stealing Dave’s small group award with a comeback .363 in match 3. At the end of the day, the LV grand aggregates were tallied and Don Mulhall came in first with a very respectable .2909. Dave Hellekson’s 200-yard win bumped him up enough in the grand to earn him the second place trophy with a .3248. Roger Schuppe, another veteran local Billings shooter, reminded us that consistency is the key in the grand by taking third with a .3538. The top five was rounded out by Richard Debick, who shot a .3589 and Rodney Brown with a .3759. The shooters returned to the firing line on Sunday morning with a day’s worth of wind dope fresh in their minds, and with a stomach full of donuts, they were ready for whatever the day would bring. The morning activities commenced with the HV200 match. Mel Klasi set the pace with a first place winning .2882 aggregate followed closely by our Canadian friend Jeff Wardlow with his .2936 posting. Jeff also claimed the HV200 small group award with a .282 in match 2. Terry Hettich shot four groups in the five’s and once again proved that consistency prevails and took home the third place prize with a .3136 agg. We took a break for another tasty lunch and then got the afternoon session started with rotating another five benches and then the HV100 match got underway to round out the weekend. Showing that it’s never too late to get in the hunt, Paul Holland came alive and won first place with his .2932. Paul started things right by laying down a .182 in match 1, which ended up being the HV100 small group. Richard Debick
came in second with a .3224 and Dave Hellekson took third with a .3246. In the HV100 grand, Jeff Wardlow came out on top with a first place tally of .3161. Mel Klasi’s 200-yard win moved him up to second place in the grand with a .3283 and Don Mulhall pulled through with a .3316 that was good for third. Finishing out the top five were Terry Hettich with a .3492 and Paul Holland with a .3521. In the two-gun, Don Mulhall prevailed and was awarded the first place trophy for his .3112 aggregate. Richard Debick was second overall with a .3555 and Roger Schuppe’s .3595 took home the third place two-gun award. Mel Klasi came in fourth with his .3628 and Rodney Brown was fifth with a .3740. I want to congratulate the winners and thank all of the competitors for attending the match and continuing to support our club. Thanks to Rod Brown for his help in scoring and stats. I also want to give a big thanks to my wife Ginger for putting on the lunches and also running the target crew along with Hailey Anderson and my two sons Kyle and Tyler. 2014 Rattlesnake: Gene Bukys Bites the Competition
World-class benchrest shooters, sunshine, thunderstorms, great conditions, terrible conditions, a chase for a world record and a great catered dinner. Those are just some of the things 76 shooters from across North America experienced in Raton, NM as they competed in the 2014 Rattlesnake. This shoot served as the last regional world team qualifier and as the second half of the New Mexico State Four Gun Championship. Due to thunderstorms forecasted for Saturday afternoon, things kicked off at 8 AM instead of the usual 9 AM. That provided for some great conditions for the LV100 and that was confirmed as the first match targets were hung on the wailing wall. Durward Wofford, out of Melrose, New Mexico started with a small group .124, with Bob Martinez of Lakewood Colorado right behind him with a .127. In fact, 20 out of the 76 shooters all had sub-two groups in the first match. In the second match, TK Nollan’s .141 moved him into the lead. Bob Scarbrough Jr’s second match small group of .126 moved him into second place, followed by Gerald Adams and Bukys. Cottrell’s .176 moved him down to fifth place. But it was Scarbrough’s third match .069 that got fellow shooters thinking and even whispering of a world record. Scarbrough, out of Muskegon, Michigan had a .1207 aggregate after three
matches. That .069 won him the small group trophy for the LV100. After his fourth match .169, Scarbrough was still on pace for a new world record and his fellow shooters were discussing it openly. Gerald Adams from Fort Worth held on to second, while Gene Bukys was in third. While Scarbrough didn’t break a world record, his .273 in the final match was more than enough to hold off the other shooters to win the Light Varmint with a .1608 aggregate. Steve Murphy came in second with a .1644, while Gene Bukys’ .1748 was good enough for third. Wayne Campbell and TK Nollan rounded out the top five. After lunch, Steve Murphy continued his hot hand by shooting a .151 in the Heavy Varmint first match. He was followed by Gary Ocock and Bud Mundy. ‘Uncle’ Larry Baggett was fourth with a .177 and Scarbrough was in fifth with a .186. Mundy hopped into first after the second match with a .136. Tom Libby’s .114 was small group for the match and moved him into second. He was followed closely by Larry White and Bukys. Mundy couldn’t hold onto first for long, Bob Brackney, from Wickenburg, Arizona took the top spot after match three with a small group .119. Mundy fell to second, followed by Hugh Williamson out of Canada landed third. Steve Lee, creator of the bughole program was fourth and Libby rounded out the top five.
Libby leap-frogged the top four after the fourth match, taking the lead with a .1970 aggregate. Brackney, Todd Tyler from Rio Rancho, NM were in second and third. TK Nollan took home a trophy for HV100 small group with a .089, but he couldn’t crack the top five. Ocock was fourth and Mundy fifth. Libby was able to hold off the field, and won the HV100 first place trophy with a .1944 aggregate. Brackney moved back up to second, breaking a tie with Ed Adams, out of Albuquerque, NM by having a smaller group. Both shooters had a .2054 aggregate. Todd Tyler came in fourth with a .2116, just edging out Bud Mundy with a .2132. Those thunderstorms that were forecasted never materialized, but the shooters did get a little rain while they moved their flags to the 200 yard target boards. After flags were moved, the shooters and their wives were treated to a great catered dinner by Whittington. Tender flat iron steak with salad, veggies, baked potato, and a chocolate cake was joined with great conversation as the shooters mingled in the loading house. Sunday was Gene Bukys’ day as he won the LV200 yard shoot and came in second in the HV200. It was a two man race between Rex Reneau and Bukys. Reneau, shooting small groups in the first, third, and fifth matches came out on top .1624 to Bukys’ .1783. Reneau’s .206 in the first match won him the small group trophy as well. Dean Ekstrom, Scarbrough, and George Lozano rounded out the top five. Bukys’ .2008 in the HV Grand was enough to beat Ed Adams’ .2101, and Todd Tyler’s .2207. Lester Bruno and George Lozano rounded out the top five. In the afternoon, Bukys’ shot a .2109 aggregate in the LV, followed by Mike Ratigan with a .2229, and Jim Hemmert with a .2407. John Horn and Keith Cottrell rounded out the top five. Ratigan took home the small group trophy with a .323 in the first match. In the LV Grand, it was Bukys again taking the top spot with a .1928. That bested Steve Murphy’s .2123, and Ratigan’s .2124. Jim Hemmert and Scarbrough rounded out the top five. In the Two Gun, Bukys’ .1969 easily beat out second place shooter Todd Tyler who had a .2338 aggregate. Scar-

Deb Evans at the rattlesnake shows her teeny .129 group from Match 4 in the LV100. Great shooting, Deb! brough, Ratigan and Ed Adams rounded out the top five. Moving to the New Mexico State Championship we combined June’s Sporter and Unlimited aggregates with the Light and Heavy in August. Ed Adams won the Three Gun with a .2556, beating out Todd Tyler, Keith Cottrell, and Bob Brackney. Jim Hemmert came in fifth place. In the Four Gun, it was Adams again besting Tyler, Bob Brackney, Bud Mundy and Cotrell. Adams’ .3133 just edged out Tyler’s .3178. As the season comes to a close in Raton, we hope shooters who haven’t been out decide to make the trip to Whittington next year. We have a world class range, world class shooters and a world class target crew who make the whole event run without a hitch. --Mark Motsko Light Varmint 100-Yards Bob Scarbrough, Jr............0.1608 Steve Murphy.................... 0.1644 Gene Bukys....................... 0.1748 Wayne Campbell................ 0.1830 TK Nollan......................... 0.1876 Jim Hemmert.................... 0.1930 Mike Ratigan..................... 0.2020 Jim Erickson..................... 0.2030 Bob Brackney.................... 0.2034 Lester Bruno..................... 0.2046 Small Group Bob Scarbrough, Jr.............. 0.069 Light Varmint 200-Yards Gene Bukys......................0.2109 Mike Ratigan..................... 0.2229 Jim Hemmert.................... 0.2407 John Horn........................ 0.2422 Keith Cottrell.................... 0.2443 Rex Reneau....................... 0.2463

Illinois Farmer Wins Two-Gun at St Louis’ Black Out Match
Summer in St Louis—Hot and muggy— enough said. We got the light gun in and two of the heavy before we had to turn on the lights. We had a brief shower but all it did was make it stickier. It was so thick you could cut the humidity with a machete. Sunday brought more heat and humidity with light gusts. Some competitors got it figured out early and some never did. We had eleven shooters that all had a great time shooting in the dark. Wayne Corley won the LV00 with a .1958 aggregate and Wayne also got the small group with a .111. After the switch to Heavy Varmint, Greg King took over and won the HV100 with a .2126 aggregate and Jim Gardner shot the small group of 0.124. Sunday had a forecast of more hot and muggy. We started Sunday off with the HV first and Greg King continued his winning streak taking the HV200 with a 0.2836 aggregate and the small group of .403. Just like the night before, we kept it rolling fast. We finished up the Heavy and got started with the LV early in the morning. Greg King kept things working and won the LV200 with a .3070 and Dustin Martin scorched out the small group at .382. Light Varmint Grand winner was Greg
King followed by Jim Hart in second and Wayne Corley rounding out the top three. Heavy Varmint Grand winner was also Greg King with Jim Hart in second and Ron Hoehn in third. The Two-Gun went to Greg King with Jim Hart in second and Wayne Corley third followed by Jim Gardner and Ron Hoehn for the top five finishers. In the picture R-L is Lou Kerhliker, Wayne Corley, Greg King, Ron Hoehn, Dustin Martin, Jim Hart, Ben Peters & Jim Gardner. Next up is the Mississippi Valley Regional. Joe Fesi will be directing that match. Hope everyone had a great summer. 2014 Southeast Regional Championship Four Gun 100 Competition Brock’s Gap Training Center in Hoover Alabama hosted the 100 yard stage of the NBRSA Southeast Regional Championship August 23-24 2014. After a relatively mild summer for Alabama the weather decided to get HOT just for our shoot. High temperature hit 100 degrees Saturday (just to make lugging rail guns around a joy) and moderated slightly Sunday. Friday night a crowd converged at Jubilee Joe’s restaurant and enjoyed some excellent seafood. Brock’s Gap is a tricky range with berms and hills all around. Saturday Mark Roper was the only shooter to manage a teen agg winning Unlimited with a .1940. Dusty Stevens came in second with a .2014, and Buddy Ross finished just behind Dusty with a .2026. Danny Morgan shot small group with an excellent .125. Saturday afternoon was hot as hell and many shooters struggled to find a load that would shoot. Billy Stevens won Heavy Varmint with a .2342. Buddy Ross finished second with a .2470 and Gary Sullivan finished third with a .2500. Dicky Land, shooting in his third registered match managed a tiny .107 to take small group. Saturday night everyone gathered at Logan’s Roadhouse where confusion over the checks just about pushed everyone over the edge.
Sunday morning, brand new NBRSA member Matt Owens (he joined at the match) ran away with Light Varmint shooting a .1920 and winning a Southeast Region Hall of Fame point. Scotty Grimes took second with a .2400 and Jeff Graves finished third with a 2434. Scotty also took small group with a .117. Sunday after lunch was Sporter. Bart Sauter started out a bit rocky, but came back strong to win with a .2096. Scotty Grimes finished second with a .2208, and Billy Stevens came in third with a .2404. Jeff Graves took small group with a .145. The battle for the 4 gun was tight with only .007 separating first place from fifth place. Buddy Ross was consistent all weekend and shot a .2524 to win the 4 gun along with 2 Southeast Region Hall of Fame points. Congratulations to Buddy! Joe Bougard wasn’t far behind with a .2536 to take second. Bart came in third with a .2545, Billy finished fourth with a .2592 and new NBRSA member Matt Owens finished fifth with a .2594. I want to thank Merrill Windsor for helping set up, tear down and just generally doing all the stuff I didn’t have time to do. Just like Bart is the bullet monkey, Billy is the barrel monkey and Jim Chaney is the concrete monkey, Merrill is my shoot monkey. I couldn’t run the shoot without him.
I also want to thank Michael Kellum and Bobby Calhoun for an incredible job as target crew. Finally I want to thank my wife, Anne, and Rena Tate for handling lunch both days. --Steve Lee Unlimited 100-Yards Mark Roper .....................0.1940 Dusty Stevens ................... 0.2014 Buddy Ross ...................... 0.2026 Jeff Graves....................... 0.2298 Don Hardeman................... 0.2326 Scott Watson..................... 0.2334 Bart Sauter....................... 0.2380 Billy Stevens..................... 0.2410 Sidney Reynolds................. 0.2486 Bill Greene....................... 0.2528 Small Group Danny Morgan..................... 0.125 Heavy Varmint 100-Yards Billy Stevens ....................0.2342 Buddy Ross ...................... 0.2470 Gary Sullivan .................... 0.2500 Joe Bougard Jr.................. 0.2590 Mike Neville ..................... 0.2614 Don Hardeman .................. 0.2620 Scott Mims ....................... 0.2626 Bart Sauter ...................... 0.2646 Mark Roper ...................... 0.2702 Scott Watson .................... 0.2784 Small Group Dickie Land....................... 0.107 Light Varmint 100-Yards Matt Owens .....................0.1920 Scotty Grimes ................... 0.2400 Jeff Graves ...................... 0.2434
