contenders were ready to go with mild switching winds, just enough to blow you off paper. Michael Nagengast took the win in Light Gun Score to start things off nicely. Then along came Bill Johnston who won the Heavy Gun Score and took the Two Gun Score as well. Nick Hoier made his presence known by winning the Light Gun Group Aggregate and Bill Johnston returned the favor in Heavy Gun Group. When the scores were tallied, it was Bill Johnston winning the Two Gun Group Aggregate with a 2.7818. Bill has tasted success in LR benchrest before winning the 1000-yard HV Group Championship in 2013’s LR Nationals. Hopes were high to see who A little bit of everything was years’ event. Despite inclement would land as the 2015 600-Yard in store for the long rangers this weather (a deluge would be a Grand Champion overall and Bill year at a new hosting club for better word), relentless mosquiJohnston rose to the challenge the 2015 600 & 1000 yard Na- toes, roaming buffalos and wind in grand style with potential tionals held in Colorado Rifle that would send a toupee soarnew world records being subClub in Byers. Match direc- ing (if one were to wear such a mitted on his behalf. What a tors, Nate Miller and Nick Hoier thing), Nick and Nate managed way to start the LR Nationals! worked hard for months to get to keep things together. With a day off to relax between Nate ran the 600 yard event the 600-yard facilities up and the 600 and 1000 yard events, running in anticipation of this on June 8-9. The twenty-six Mother Nature had just enough time to stir up some trouble and brought forth a deluge that had everyone running for cover. Try as they may, in the end, Mother Nature got the upper hand and the 1000-yard event was called off on the second day due to rain. Following the rules, the results are valid for the event since three targets were shot in both Light and Heavy Guns. The drawback is that no Hall of Fame points apply. As the scores ended, it was Billy Copelin taking first in Light Gun Score with Nate Miller winning both the Heavy Gun Score and Two Gun Score at 1000-yards. Then along came Bruce Bangeman who

2015 Long Range Nationals

August, 2015 Precision Rifleman

claimed the Light Gun Aggregate win. Bruce is also no stranger to LR National wins as he claimed victory in 2013 with the 1000yard Two Gun Group Championship and dominated the 2011 1000-yard stage by winning LG, HG and Two Gun Group and ultimately was 1000-yard Grand Champion in 2011. Bill Johnston was back for more and won the Heavy Gun Group and Two Gun Group Aggregate. It looked like Bill might have this event sewn up but when the placements were tallied from the 1000-Yard Two Gun events, along came that LR Hall of Famer, Billy Copelin who claimed Grand Champion‌again! This is not Billy’s first win. Many of you may remember he took the 2009 LR Nationals with a vengeance winning all categories in 1000-yards except LG Score. Bill Johnston began racking up his wins at the 2012 LR Nationals taking HG Group, HG Score and Grand Champion in 1000-yards for 2012. Congratulations to Billy Copelin and Bill Johnston on their long range benchrest success and a heartfelt thank you to Nate Miller and Nick Hoier who worked valiantly for months to host this very special event. We hope that everyone was able to enjoy themselves despite the weather setback. Also, many thanks to Canada Cummins, Bill Bonser and Rod Brown for sending in pictures.

New Cartridge for Long Range Benchrest:

6x41 Vance Showing that the spirit of benchrest innovation is still alive, Frank Vance from Irving, Texas unveiled a promising new cartridge for the long range game, the “6x41 Vance. Targeted at using popular Dasher powders like Varget and H4895, the new cartridge is based on a shortened 6x47 Lapua parent with the goal of Dasher-class case capacities, while retaining the 30 degree shoulder and a longer neck for more flexibility in seating and throating. Testing has been very promising so far with quarter MOA groups that achieve Dasher velocities while using 2 grains less powder. Building cases by pushing back the shoulders of the 6x47 brass results in a super-strong case that should have a very long life while handling the upper velocity nodes. The 6x47 Vance is definitely an efficient cartridge with a bright future. --Rodney Brown

Jack Foster is the Champion: 2015 LR Score Nationals First I would like to thank the people who made this shoot what it was. Target crew Conrad, Dawn did a flawless job. Mary the Scorer could do no wrong and Jenny ran the line like a clock. I could not have done this without them as well as the Washington state shooters who came out early to help me. Thank you all. We had 28 Hunter shooters and 32 VFS shooters. Saturday started with the 200 yard competition. During Hunter class, we had clouds, wind, sunshine and rain. Sometimes all at the same time. Greg Swezey came out on top with a score of 249-9X with Jack Foster a close second with 248-7X and Dean Thomas held third with 248-4X. Next was the VFS 200 and it was a

stressful event. Only one shooter shot clean through to the end. Gary Evans of Casper shot a 250-10X for the win with Chad Schmidt placing second with 249-3X and Mike Bigelow held third with 248-7X. Sunday we held the Hunter 300-Yard competition first and they were welcomed by lot of mirage and switchy winds. It was a guessing game as to who would end on top until the last target was hung. Tim Naugle came out on top with a score of 245-3X and Greg Swezey held second with 245-2X. (Scoring 1-X DOES matter.) Jack Foster placed third with 244-4X. The VFS 300-yard event went back and forth all the way to the end. The top 3 all had a score of 246 but by way

of a tie breaker Jack Foster got the win with 246-4X with Chad Schmidt placing second with 246-4X and Tim Naugle held third with 246-3X. At the Hunter 200L-300, Greg Swezey won with a score of 494-11X and Gary Evans won the VFS 200L-300 yardages with 495-15X. Tabulating the Two Gun results and it was “steady-hand Jack Foster with the victory with a score of 983-20X. Tim Naugle placed second overall with 981-20X and Mike Bigelow held third position with 978-20X. Congratulations to Jack Foster on a hard won victory and thanks again to all the shooters who came to compete in Casper. --Tim Naugle

May 16, 2015 It was a great day at Columbus Sportsman's Association in Columbus, WI. We had 13 match participants in our first 600 yard NBRSA match of the year. Despite quickly changing wind conditions, William Zaborowski managed to shoot a 2.054, 3-target group aggregate to win Light Gun Group. Bill Behnke shot a 3-target score of 142 to win Light Gun Score. Heavy Gun was the Fred Thruman show, with Fred winning both Group and Score with a 3-target group aggregate of 4.792, and a score of 272. Brian Messerschmidt finished second in both Light Gun and Heavy Gun to win the Two-Gun overall. We followed our NBRSA sanctioned match with a Club Match, which had 8 participants. Desert Sportsman Score Sheldon Turf Wins Hunter May 10, 2015

Sunday started out with a little wind. By the middle of the match, the Vegas winds started flipping the wind flags around. At 100-yds it was tight with 3 shooters clean but only one could beat the wind and shot a 250. Nice shooting Sheldon. Thanks to Ron Carter for helping score. He didn’t shoot the match--just came out to help. Next month Doc joins the custom class. Good luck with your new rifle.

Ekstrom & Nollan Win at Mill Creek Rifle Club

tions Jim. Richard Brensing won the LV100 small group with a .090 and Dean Ekstrom took that honor at 200-yards with a .264. Thanks to Aaron for scoring and Tim, Nina & Megan for target detail. --Don Creach, Match Director

May 2-3, 2015

The match season began with 30 shooters and nice weather for Saturday. It was a bit cool and windy for Sunday morning; it warmed up as the wind velocity increased throughout the match. There were shooters from seven states in attendance including Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas. A good time was had by all. Dean Ekstrom won both 100 yard aggregates and the Heavy Varmint Grand, while TK Nollan won both 200 yard aggregates and the Light Varmint Grand. TK also shot the HV small group at 100; a .078, while Jim Franzen shot the small group at 200 with a .143. Jim just started shooting bench rest recently and this is his first award. Congratula-

It’s Another Clean Sweep for Ross Herrick Sahuaro 1000-Yard Benchrest

May 9, 2015

I sat looking through the telescope at a blue moon floating in a white sky, shimmering as if it was painted on a flag, flapping in the wind. I tightly closed my eyes to

fight off a wave of motion sickness. Then a gust of wind hit me and brought me back to reality. It was not a telescope, or a blue moon. I was looking through a rifle scope at the 1,000 yard NBRSA target as it

shimmered and danced in the wind and mirage during the monthly Sahuaro match at the Three Points Range west of Tucson, Arizona. It was the forth relay and the wind and mirage had come up with a vengeance. I tried not to take it personally. We had a good turn out of ten shooters and 16 guns. The Weather Channel app on my phone had said that we could expect clear skies and mild winds of 8 to 10 miles per hour by noon. It proved, however, to be a bit more than that. My wind meter had the higher gusts at 22 mph during relay four, and the average for relays three and four was in the teens most of the time. This might have been okay if it was steady, but the wind seemed very nervous and energetic, it reminded me of a kid with A.D.D. that could not sit still. The wind flags would tease you with a condition that you had sighted in for, then, like Lucy snatching the football away from Charlie Brown, by the time you could pull the trigger, it would change. Not just a little, but a lot, in both velocity and direction. Also, the mirage didn't help, at times mak-

ing your target appear to be in a different place than it was when you fired your sighters just a few minutes ago. Light gun was a little more fun. Out of ten shooters, four of us had sub-MOA agg's. Wayne McDonald posted a 6.25'' group and Lon Persun shot both a 6.62'' and a 5.81'' groups. Steve Everson was able to get a 5.25'' in relay three, but Ross Herrick had a 6.75'', a 4.93'' and a 4.5'', earning him a 5.39'' light gun aggregate, taking the first place aggregate trophy and winning small group as well. The infamous Billotte Gang was skulking around, still trying to make life hard for the rest of us. In light gun score, Mike Billotte shot a very nice 5.18'' group that was a 50-1X, winning high single target score in light gun, but even with this, and his 7.79'' aggregate, it was Ross again who took light gun score with a 132, with Wayne McDonald coming in second with a 128 and Lon Person running a close third with a 124. Even though the heavy gun shooters that got relay four were doing the best they could, all ended up with some shots off target. But,

even with that, Pat Billotte managed to shoot the highest single target score in heavy gun with a 94-4X. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to beat Ross Herrick, who again prevailed in both aggregate and score. His 5.75'' group won smallest heavy gun group for a final 10.33'' agg, his winning score was a 245. Nobody else was close in either group or score. So, when it was all over but the excuses, Ross Herrick took home all of the first place plaques…again. Only the Billotte Gang, under trying conditions, was able to stay hot on his heels with some single target high scores. Nice shooting everyone! Currently we are taking up a collection to see if we can build a wall around the 1,000 yard range and then put a roof on it. We're thinking that may be the only way to defeat that pesky wind at Tucson. Come join us, the second Saturday of every month, starting at 7:00am. You can contribute to the fund! And the fun! --Dale Arenson In the photo from left: Mike Billotte, Karl Hunstiger, Ross Herrick & Pat Billotte.

No Surprise at Oak Hill

When one struggles for a year and is just not shooting up to potential, you know it’s just a matter of time until he breaks out of the pack to claim the top prize. You know you can and have shot better in the past. You can’t figure out what to change or try to solve the dilemma you’re in. You know you’re close to the answer but having difficulty finding the right combination of variables. You keep trying your best, making good decisions you think, but your results are less than acceptable. You know you can and have done better. Keep wondering what am I doing wrong? Oak Hill Gun Club hosted a Benchrest match on May 17, 2015 of the Heavy Varmint Group venue. The conditions were not kind to rifle shooters with variable winds, rain forecast and fluctuating overcast conditions. This is the type of match if you can get a group done without embarrassing yourself you are happy. The thought of winning is not on your mind, simply avoiding a big group would make one happy.

Well we had a shooter showing up and was ready to compete at a high level. Breaking out of a slump at 100 yards, Jerry Wick shot an agg. of 0.1850, followed by Jim Carstensen 0.2160 and Kenny Stone 0.2216. Small group was shot by a Newbie, Frank Taucher 0.096. The 200 yard event was like 100 yard with Jerry Wick dominating with an agg. of 0.3637 followed by Kenny Stone 0.4095 and Keith Christiansen 0.4219. Jerry Wick finished the match with the small group of 0.353 securing his position firmly. Heavy Varmint Grand Agg. winner was NO SURPRISE with a 0.277, next was Kenny Stone 0.3155 then Keith Christiansen 0.3293. The NO SURPRISE was Jerry breaking away from the group in such commanding fashion as we all knew he was capable of. Thanks to the Target Crew, Statistician and Jim Schmidt and Jerry King who shared Range Officer duties while also shooting. Thanks guys. Please review the attached match result for your favorite shooter’s results. Hope to see you all at the next match. Dan Lutke Wins Two Gun at Sloughhouse Benchrest

May 2-3, 2015 Sacramento, CA We had a light turn out this weekend with only nine shooters. On Saturday we shot all 200 yards and all 100 yards on Sunday. The weather was nice all weekend. There was a lot of wind and mirage on Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to Michael Taner on winning LV100 & HV200 aggs and to Dan Lutke for all other aggs and the Two Gun. We send out special get well wishes to Ray Garric who had major surgery last week. Get well soon, Ray! Texas State Championship Leg 2 Seymour, Texas

We came back to Seymour, Tx this Year. Same as we do every year to indulge ourselves in a Texas tradition of benchrest competition. The Texas State Championship, UL(10 Shot) and Heavy Varmint classes were held this year on May 16- 17, 2015. Not much has changed around Seymour since we were there last year. I did notice a brand New Dollar General Store at the end of South Main St. The store sits by itself, off Main in what was probably once a wheat field. If you’re passing through this little North Central Texas town, you might want to check out this new attraction. You might want to plan ahead, the parking lot can get a little crowded. Torrential rains came this year and turned the dry arid land in this area to mud. All that water is a breeding ground for man-eating mosquitoes. I’ve been told that on average, it

rains about every six months. It’s been raining every day somewhere in the region for the last month. There’s more rain in the forecast for upcoming days. Most of the 24 attendees at this year’s match brought their heavy metal creations to the show. That’s what it is. It’s a show of designs built by some of the most imaginative machinist in the business. The unlimited rifle is a true benchrest icon. Saturday morning we fought a horde of mosquitoes setting wind flags. The skeeters were taking advantage of the damp/wet conditions brought on by the prior torrential rains. Repellent spray saved our hides. We got started at 9AM. At the commands of Range Officer, Dr Larry Lyford. Conditions were overcast skies and 10 to 25 mph winds all day long. It blew equipment off benches that was not anchored. We shoot ten shots for record with UNL Rifles. The first match is 15 minutes followed by four 12 minute matches. An unlimited match is

time consuming, even with one relay as was the case in this match. It’s certainly a marathon for some of us aging benchrest shooters. At the end of the UNL100, Charles “Huck” Huckeba emerged as the winner with an impressive .2394 agg in some real tricky conditions. The UNL200 was kicked off after lunch, which consisted of catered chopped barbeque sandwiches with all the trimmings. The wind picked up and so did the foul language. We struggled to do the best we could in challenging conditions. John Horn bested the field with a .4652 agg at 200 yards. John’s agg tells the story of how tough conditions were. Sunday morning brought bright sunshine for the Heavy Varmint. A left to right cross wind, 10-25 mph that stayed around all day. A cross wind with pick-ups and let-ups is the most challenging for me. Dickie Pustejovsky got out of blocks with an unbelievable .067 5-shot group in all that mess (wind). Everybody played catch up from that point on. Dickie walked away with the win; a .2016

agg. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. His traveling Buddy, Dr Oltersdorf was second with a .2384. My Friend Charles “Huck” Huckeba, a familiar name in the winner’s circle, shot a solid .2515 agg to take the HV200. Full results for both matches have been posted. We were honored with the presence of a couple of foreigners from way up North in Oklahoma. Mike Cordes and John Dumas. Mike and John are no strangers to the area. Jack Snyder, from New Mexico, came down with his friend Larry Baggett. Jackie Schmidt and his wife, Marilyn came up from Houston with their dashund. I shot on the bench next to Jackie. We had a blast solving the world’s problems and shooting benchrest at the same time. John Jones and his wife from Houston was at this match too. John Jones was a participant in the famous Houston Warehouse project. There were a number of old timers at this match. We talked quite a bit about the history of the sport and some of the sports oldest survivors. The sports history has always been interesting to me. We all had a great time. If you don’t believe me, put this match on your list of things to do in the near future and you will see for yourself. Thanks to hosts John Horn and GCR Director Scott Hunter and co-hosts Trae and Kammi Reed for their enthusiasm and efforts to keep this tradition alive. The Seymour Texas Stool Shooters range is a dedicated benchrest rifle range run by propri-

etor John Horn. John is a bundle of energy, who loves the sport. The future of this match hangs on the shoulders of John Horn, Scott Hunter and a host of reliable volunteers.

2015 Best of the West

Alvin Davidson Memorial Trophy Finds a Familiar Home May 23-24, 2015

A wet practice day on Friday made a lot of competitors nervous on Memorial Day weekend, but Mother Nature held off the moisture until a quick downpour soaked everything during the awards on Sunday afternoon. In between the two rain events, traditional switchy winds kept shooters on their toes; however one familiar shooter submitted a potential new world record aggregate in the HV200. On Saturday morning, Lowell Frei out of Hurricane, Utah, set the bar for the LV100 with a .152. Mike Bryant from Wheeler, Texas, was right behind him with a .168 and the man from Rifle, Colorado, Roy Damron was in third place with a .189. Joe Pipola from Glendale, Arizona (one of only two AZ shooters) was close behind with a .196. Damron took first place after the second match, with a .213. Former match director Jack Snyder, of Edgewood, New Mexico moved to second with a .189, while current match director Ed Adams, of Albuquerque, moved to third with a match small .181. Frei regained the lead after the third match with a .206, but Tom

Evans out of Gordon, Nebraska took small group from Frei with a .138, and moved into second place. Damron’s .299 was good enough to hold onto third. Damron moved back into first after the fourth match with a .228 as Frei’s .303 dropped him to second place. Snyder, Adams, and Bud Mundy out of Hillsboro, Missouri rounded out the top five. Mike Bryant won $25 and a small group trophy for his .136 in the fifth and final match of the morning. But his .2768 was only good enough for 9th place. Ed Adams’ .178 moved his aggregate to .2310 winning the LV100. Darrel Loker’s aggregate of .2362 after a .195 in the fifth match leapfrogged him five spots from 6th to 2nd, just beating Damron’s .2368. Mundy’s .2388 placed him fourth, and Frei’s .2432 was a solid fifth place. In the afternoon HV100 shoot, Pipola set the bar with a .117 in the first match. No other shooter could beat the score, so Pipola took home some cash and small group trophy. Scott Haywood, from Odessa, Texas shot a .131, just edging out Adams’ .133 for second place in the first match. In fact, nine of the top 10 shooter had scores under .2, and 21 of 46 were under .3. Haywood repeated his score of .131 in the second match (match small group) moving him into first

place over Adams’ .164 and Pipola’s .252. Aaron French, from Lubbock, Texas moved into fourth, and ‘Uncle’ Larry Baggett (shooting on the second relay), also out of Lubbock, slid up to fifth place. The top five stayed the same after the third match, with Haywood’s .216, Adams’ .243, Pipola’s .231, French’s .247, and Baggett’s .231. Randy Pumphrey shot a match small .198. After match four, it was still between Haywood and Adams, as they shot a .217 and .202 respectively. French moved to third with a .294. Baggett moved up to fourth with a .224 and 2014 Best of the West defending champion Todd Tyler, out of Rio Rancho, New Mexico shot a match small .145 moving him into fifth place. Haywood was able to hold off Adams in the fifth match. Adams’ .169 wasn’t enough to overcome Haywood’s .203. Haywood’s aggregate of .1796 gave him the first place trophy and a cash prize. Adams’ .1822 kept him in second. However, Baggett (.2124) was able to nudge French (.2216) off the podium for a third place trophy with a match small .141. Roy Damron also shot a .141 in the fifth match. Tyler (.2438) held onto fifth. Within sight of the snowcapped Southern Rocky Mountains, the NRA Whittington Center really is

a jewel for bench rest shooting in the southwestern United States. With indoor loading facilities, picturesque surroundings (a couple of matches were delayed for deer and antelope on the range), and a world class target crew, shooters can enjoy themselves without worrying about the elements during reloading or how the match is run. Perhaps that’s what allowed one shooter to get into the zone on Sunday morning for the HV200. Like Pipola the day before, Missouri’s Mundy set the bar for small group in the first match of the HV200 with a .159. No one bested the score, and Mundy took home a small group trophy and cash prize. Jim Hemmert, from Kalvesta, Kansas shot a .293 for second, just edging out Baggett’s .294. NBRSA Mid-Continent Director Butch Fjoser, out of Woodward, Oklahoma was fourth with a .376, and Frei’s .379 had him in fifth place. Hemmert (pictured at right) would never look back. Match small group .199 in the second, and match small group .208 in the third had him with a .1167 aggregate after three. In baseball, when a pitcher is throwing a no-hitter it is tradition not to jinx him by talking about the no-hitter. While Dodger hall of fame announcer Vin Scully scoffs at this idea, it’s a little different in bench rest. Everyone knew Hemmert was on a tear, and everyone was talking about it. The question was would he be able to maintain it? Hemmert’s fourth target had a sub .3 group just below and to the right of the bull’s eye. However, one bullet had flown a little high, still touching the group, but barely. The official score was .398, moving his aggregate up to .1373. Would he be able to recover? “Yeah, it was the last shot,” Hemmert said after the match. “It just got away from me.” When asked what he was thinking before the fifth match,

Hemmert replied “I was thinking I was going to take what it was going to give me.” Hemmert was able to recoup and shot a match small group .361 in the final match for the morning. Baggett’s .488 was the second smallest group in the match. Hemmert’s aggregate is a range record .1459. His targets and backers were immediately taken, inspected, verified, and signed by the referees and sealed. A world record submission has been filled out, and now we wait. But certainly we won’t be forgetting this performance for some time. Back to the HV200 aggs, Frei came in second with a .2461 aggregate, Baggett (.2585) edged out Adams (.2658) for a trophy and cash prize while Tyler (.2768) rounded out the top five. Shooters immediately moved to the LV200, and as in the morning, Bud Mundy ran away with a small group trophy and cash prize for his .229 in the first match. Tyler was right behind him with a .252 with Frei at .303, Jack Childers from Arroyo Grande, Califronia was fourth with a .328, and Charles Huckeba from Odessa, Texas in fifth with a .448. Winds started switching, and Baggett’s .581 on the second relay was the small group for the second match. Frei moved to first followed by Childers, Tyler, Loker and Damron. Frei held onto first and Loker moved into second after the third match. Tyler moved to third with Tom Evans moving to fourth and Childers slipping to fifth. Bob Brackney (our second Arizona shooter), had a small group .432. It seemed like feast of famine for

33

Larry Baggett. His fourth match small group .363 (his second of the LV200) only moved him up to seventh place. Frei, maintained the lead, while Tyler moved to second. Lou Murdica from Sky Valley, California moved to third with Adams jumping to fourth and Mundy fifth. When the dust settled, Ed Adams’ .555 in the fifth match was enough to propel him to victory with a .3111 aggregate. Frei (.3115) fell to second, while Truman Wilson (.3254), out of Delta, Colorado took the third place trophy and a cash prize. Murdica (.3286) came in fourth and Baggett (.3332) took fifth place. In the Heavy Grand Aggregate, it was Frei in first (.2447), followed by Adams (.2484), Tyler (.2768), Mundy (.2835) and Bryant (.2862). In the Light Grand Aggregate it was Adams (.2466), followed by Baggett (.2728), Haywood (.2749), Tyler (.2955) and Bryant (.3126). In the Two Gun Grand Aggregate, Ed Adams (.2475) wins the Alvin Davidson Memorial Trophy for the third time in four years. Frei (.2808) came in second with Tyler (.2884) third, Bryant (.2993) fourth and Mundy (.3060) fifth. All won trophies and cash prizes. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the weekend was tinged with sadness with the knowledge

of the loss of a stalwart of bench rest shoots around the country and especially here in New Mexico. Mrs. Beatrice “Bea” Carl passed this past December. Accompanying her husband, Dr. Barton Carl, Mrs. Carl always had a smile and words of encouragement to all the competitors at whichever shoot they attended. With a kind and generous soul, Mrs. Carl was never seen without her rescue Labrador retriever ‘Penny’. She will be sincerely missed and our condolences go out to our friend and fellow competitor Dr. Carl. --Mark Motsko Heavy Varmint 100-Yards Ed Adams........................0.2310 Darrel Loker..................... 0.2362 Roy Damron...................... 0.2368 Bud Mundy....................... 0.2388 Lowell Frei....................... 0.2432 Jack Snyder...................... 0.2460 Tom Evans........................ 0.2672 Bob Brackney.................... 0.2762 Mike Bryant...................... 0.2768 Aaron French.................... 0.2784 Todd Tyler........................ 0.2860 Joe Pipola........................ 0.3000 Charles Huckeba................ 0.3026 Dave Gibson...................... 0.3118 Roger Tillery..................... 0.3170 Small Group Mike Bryant....................... 0.136 Heavy Varmint 200-Yards Jim Hemmert...................0.1459 Lowell Frei....................... 0.2461 Larry Baggett.................... 0.2585 Ed Adams......................... 0.2658 Todd Tyler........................ 0.2768 Charles Huckeba................ 0.2793 Butch Fjoser..................... 0.2874 Keith Cottrell.................... 0.2901 Mike Bryant...................... 0.2955 Richard Brensing................ 0.3058 Truman Wilson................... 0.3146 Joe Pipola........................ 0.3146 Randy Sullivan................... 0.3244 Bud Mundy....................... 0.3283 Tom Evans........................ 0.3310 Small Group Bud Mundy........................ 0.159 Light Varmint 100-Yards Scott Haywood..................0.1796 Ed Adams......................... 0.1822 Larry Baggett.................... 0.2124

Agenda Items

Following are the 2015 Agenda items for Board review this September. Please take a moment to read them and contact your Regional Director to make your comments known, to ask questions or to add an agenda item of your own. Eastern Region Agenda #1: The distance between the record box and the sighter box for the 200 yard group target is 1½”. Please see the attached target that has the competitor number that is printed in bold and is .75 inch high. This is a very good target example compared to many others we have seen. Agenda #2: Suggested Wording for Rule Book Revision: “For a national group competition, the competitor number shall be clearly legible in mirage conditions at the farthest distance. The competitor number shall be 1” tall in bold font or written with a wide marker to aide visibility.” By Jeff Gaidos. Agenda #3: A recommendation that the courtesy rule regarding idle chat when you finish shooting till the finish of the7 minutes MUST be enforced. When you

happen to have a couple of talkers side by side it is a real distraction. The rule is there for a purpose. By Dave Holmes. Gulf Coast Region Agenda#1: The following to be added to the end of 10, page 20: “That at the group nationals, the individual who accepts the job of procuring and setting flags for a flag rotation (sponsor) will have control over what type and how the flags are set for that rotation. Any additions or adjustments to that rotation may only be done with the permission of the flag sponsor for that rotation. If that individual is unable to fulfill their duties as flag rotation sponsor, another sponsor will be approved by the match director. Appeals to the flag set for a given rotation, not resolved with the sponsor, will be made to the referees for the first days’ competition, with a majority vote of said referees being needed to change the flag set in question.” By Scott Hunter. Agenda #2: Delete ¼” deflection sentence from page 20(j)I and ii. By Scott Hunter. Mississippi Valley Region Agenda #1: Discuss the trophy cabinets that are being con-

structed to display our retired group trophies at Bench Rest Rifle Club of St Louis and decide how they are to be cleaned and then displayed. By Bud Mundy. North Central Region Agenda #1: Revisit match Memorandum of Agreement distribution to make it easier for RD’s and Match Directors. By Terry Meyer. Agenda #2: Review Trophy Awards and discuss options and member feedback. By Terry Meyer & Tom Libby. Agenda #3: Review trophy (national) fees for score shooters. The score national payments are excessive. By Terry Meyer. Southwest Region Agenda #1: On score rules item 7b modify first sentence to read, “Full bench and relay rotation shall be used at all National Match events.” By Keith Myers. It’s too late to add your items for discussion. The annual Board of Directors Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2015. Now is your time to make a difference in our organization. For contact information for your Director, please see page 39. Thank you for your continued support of benchrest.

New License Plate

Bryant has the same from Texas. Well gentlemen, there are 47 states remaining. Who’s next!

When the opportunity arose for Rod Brown to get new license plates for his benchrest truck and motor home, he didn’t hesitate in making the choice. Reading Library?

It looks like the boys at Land’s End Benchrest have been up to their tricks again. It’s not that a library isn’t a nice tribute to Bud Schalles; it’s where the tribute was placed...on a portable outhouse at the range. Now the question is what will Bud do to return the favor...
