Haute Couture, aber eine die tragbar ist, Avantgarde, aber mit feinen Strukturen – so definiert sich das Design von Steinrohner. Formen und ausgewählte Textilien entführen den Träger der Kleidung in eine fantastische Traumwelt der klaren Linien. Inna Stein und Caroline Rohner, die ihre Wurzeln in Russland und der Schweiz haben, lernten sich in der Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin kennen und beschlossen im Jahr 2013, ihr eigenes Label zu gründen: Steinrohner. Mit Handarbeitstechniken gelingt es ihnen, ausgefallene Silhouetten zu kreieren.

Zeitlose Formensprache, traditionelle Handarbeit – Julia Rieth und Detlef Stiebich verbinden seit 2012 unter ihrer Marke traditionelle Handwerkskunst mit modernen Funktionen. Das in Hamburg ansässige Label verarbeitet seit der ersten Minute naturbe­ lassene Materialien wie Kastanien, Tanninen und Akazien. Das Leder beziehen die zwei jungen Designer aus Spanien, Italien und Frankreich.

Sie arbeiten außerdem nach dem Pen-und-Paper-Prinzip – keine elek­ tronischen Hilfen, keine technischen Zeichnungen, jeder Nadelstich wird von dem Design-Duo selbst gesetzt und ausgeführt.

Timeless shapes, traditional craftsmanship – since 2012, Julia Rieth and Detlef Stiebich have been using traditional manufacturing methods to make their brand’s modern products. The Hamburg-based label has worked with natural materials such as chestnut, tannins and acacias from the very outset. The two young designers source their leather from Spain, Italy and France. They also work according to the pen-and-paper principle – no electronic aids, no technical drawings, every stitch is the design duo’s own handiwork.

Der Spanier Guillem Rodríguez, der bereits mit dem Künstler Alba Rihe eine Kollektion entwarf und eine andere auf der Barcelona Fashion Week zeigte, wurde 1991 in seiner Heimatstadt Barcelona geboren. Bereits in jungen Jahren erkannte er sein Faible für Mode: „Mit 16 Jahren kam ich das erste Mal mit Mode in Berührung“, so der Jungdesigner, der seither Preise wie den Modafad gewann. Seine Kollektionen zeichnen sich durch die Verwendung von hochtechnischen Materialien sowie durch künstlerische Einflüsse aus.

Haute couture but wearable, avant-garde but with sensitive structures – this is how Steinrohner defines its design. Shape and selected textiles take the wearer away into a parallel world of dreams, fantasy and clear lines.

Originally from Russia and Switzerland, Inna Stein and Caroline Rohner met at the Berlin Art School in Weißensee. In 2013 they decided to found their own label together: Steinrohner. With handcrafted techniques they create fancy silhouettes.

The Spanish designer Guillem Rodríguez, who has already designed a collection with the artist Alba Rihe and exhibited another at Barcelona Fashion Week, was born in Barcelona in 1991. He recognised his weakness for fashion at an early age. “At the age of 16 I came into contact with fashion for the first time”, says the young designer, who has since won prizes such as the Modafad. His collections are characterised by the use of highly technical materials and artistic influences.

Science fiction has long been a reality. As well as electrical illuminated handbags and waistbands, designers are presenting evening dresses in reprogrammable colours or with the capacity to display incoming tweets in real time.

Wearables are merging fashion and technology, creating a mega trend that is revolutionising the fashion world.

Science-Fiction ist längst Realität: Designer präsen­tieren elektronische Licht­reflexe auf Handtaschen und Taille oder Abendkleider, deren Farbe sich umprogram­mieren lässt oder auf die ein­treffende Tweets in Echtzeit projiziert werden.

Die Technik wird immer subtiler und wandert direkt an den Körper, als digitales Upgrade, eine wahrgewordene MenschMaschine-Utopie. Smarter Schmuck wie Ringly informiert seine Trägerin etwa mit Vibrationen und Farbwechsel über die wichtigsten neuen Telefonanrufe, E-Mails oder Facebook-Nachrichten – ohne, dass sie bei Dates oder Meetings ihr Smartphone im Auge behalten muss. In Zukunft könnten Smartphones sogar überflüssig werden.

Besonders im Medizin- und Fitnessbereich haben Wearables ihr Potenzial schon bewiesen: Accessoires für das Handgelenk messen die zurückgelegten Kilometer beim Joggen, den Stresslevel, die sportliche Leistung oder den Herzschlag des Trägers.

Dem Marktforschungsinstitut BI Intelligence zufolge könnten 2018 bereits 300 Millionen Wearables wie Fitnessarmbänder, smarte Brillen oder Uhren verkauft werden. Doch solche Acces-

soires sind nur der Anfang: Junge und etablierte Modedesigner experimentieren auch mit anderen Formen von Wearable Tech – von smartem Street Style oder Sportkleidung wie Snowboardjacken, die die Temperatur selbstständig anpassen, bis zur programmierbaren Haute Couture.

Mit der Fusion von Technik und Mode treten auf einmal Hightech-Konzerne und etablierte Modehäuser miteinander in Konkurrenz. Gleichzeitig entstehen neue Kollaborationen und interdisziplinäre Projekte wie die Zusammenarbeit von Designerin Diane von Furstenberg mit Google Glass. Labels, die vom Wearables-Trend profitieren wollen, müssen Modeexpertise und Hightech-Kompetenz vereinen. Denn Mode muss sich in einer Zukunft der Wearables nicht nur daran messen lassen, ob sie elegant aussieht – sondern auch, welchen technischen Mehrwert sie bietet.

Technology is getting more and more subtle and finding its way onto the body in the form of a digital upgrade: a human-machine utopia coming true.

Smart jewelry such as Ringly informs its wearer about important new telephone calls, e-mails and Facebook notifications by vibrating or changing colour, meaning that the wearer will not need to keep their smartphone to hand during dates or meetings. In future, smartphones could even become obsolete.

Wearables have already demonstrated their potential in the fields of medicine and fitness.

Wrist accessories measure the number of kilometres covered during a run, stress level, performance and heartbeat. According to the market research institute BI Intelligence, as many as 300 million wearables such as fitness armbands, smart glasses and smart watches could be in circulation by 2018. But accessories such as these are just the beginning. Young and established fashion designers are also experimenting with other forms of wearable technology, from smart street style or sportswear like snowboard jackets that automatically adapt to the temperature through to programmable haute couture.

The fusion of technology and fashion sees high-tech corporations and established fashion houses going into competition with one another.

At the same time, new collaborations and interdisciplinary projects are springing up, like that of designer Diane von Furstenberg and Google Glass. Labels that want to profit from the wearable trend will have to combine fashion know-how with technological expertise. Because the future of wearables not only depends on how these pieces look, but how they perform.

Die umfassende Digitalisierung der Lebenswelt hat die Art und Weise, wie Mode konsumiert, präsentiert und wahrgenommen wird, nachhaltig verändert. Das ­Internet hat der öffentlichen ­Straße den Rang als Hauptschauplatz innovativer Trends längst abge­ laufen. Welche Chancen bietet der Wandel vom Street Style zum Web Style für die Modebranche?

Mode im 21. Jahrhundert ist ein Hy­ brid aus Selbstdarstellung, Konsum­ kultur und Kunst. Die Wahl unserer Kleidung verrät viel über uns selbst, zeigt aber auch an, wohin wir uns als Gesellschaft bewegen. Schon der Philosoph Walter Benjamin lobte die Mode für ihre unvergleichliche Fähig­ keit, als kultureller Seismograph vorherzusagen, welche neuen Regeln und Revolutionen die Zu­ kunft bringt.

Man muss kein Hellseher sein, um zu wissen, in welche Richtung sich das Geschäft mit der Mode entwickelt: Onlinestores, Fashionblogs und soziale Netzwerke boomen. Der Siegeszug des Web 2.0 hat unser Verhältnis zu uns selbst und den Dingen, die uns umgeben, nachhaltig verän­ dert. War die aktive Partizipation an der Modewelt noch vor wenigen Jahrzehnten einer gut informier­ ten und zahlungskräftigen Elite vorbehalten, sind die neuesten Trends heute mit wenigen Klicks erleb- und konsumierbar geworden. Die ständige Kommunikation zum Thema Mode im Netz hat den Konsum von Kleidung mehr denn je zu einer eigenen Form des Entertainments gemacht.

Der klassische Modeeinzelhandel zählt zu den Verlierern dieser schönen neuen Onlinewelt. Ein­ zigartige und liebevoll kuratierte Fachgeschäfte können sich kaum noch halten, stattdessen reihen sich von Stockholm bis Singapur die gleichen see­ lenlosen Billigoutlets aneinander. Ein Teufelskreis, denn die Verödung der Innenstädte trägt dazu bei, dass auch der für die Mode so essenzielle Mecha­ nismus des Sehen-und-gesehen-werdens zuneh­ mend im Netz und in der Selfie-Kultur stattfindet.

Die digitale Revolution frisst ihre Kinder: Zahlrei­ che Studien belegen, dass die ständige Erreichbar­ keit eine psychische Belastung darstellt, die Stress und Burnout fördert. Da hilft nur noch ausloggen, offline gehen, das Smartphone zu Hause lassen.

Abtauchen in die Tagtraumwelt der Mode als will­ kommene Flucht aus den Zwängen des Alltags. So betrachtet wird es in Zukunft für Konsumenten, die den Großteil ihres Lebens damit verbringen, auf Bildschirme zu starren, keinen größeren Luxus geben, als das entspannte Flanieren im Real Life.

What opportunities does this transition from street style to web style offer the fashion industry?

Fashion in the 21st century is a hybrid of self-expression, consumer culture, and art. What we choose to wear not only reveals a great deal about our­selves, it is also an indication of the direction in which we are moving as a society. In the early 20th century, philosopher Walter Benjamin was already praising fashion’s incomparable capacity for acting as a sort of cultural seismograph, foreseeing which new rules and revolutions the future would bring.

One needn’t have clairvoyant powers to reco­ gnize which direction fashion commerce is going.

Online stores, fashion blogs, and social networks are booming. The prevalence and dominance of the Web 2.0 has forever changed our relationships to ourselves and the things around us. Mere de­cades ago, active participation in the world of fashion was reserved for a well-informed and financially powerful elite, but today, the newest trends can be experienced and consumed online in just a few clicks. The constant online discourse on the theme of fashion has transformed the consumption of clothing into a form of personal entertainment on a level greater than ever before.

The classic model of the fashion retailer counts as one of the losers in this brave new digital world.

Unique, meticulously curated specialty stores can hardly stand up to innumerous identical, soulless and cheap outlets that are taking root from Stock­ holm to Singapore. It’s a vicious cycle in which the atrophy of the cities’ downtowns also plays a part, for the all-important see-and-be-seen aspect of fashion is increasingly taking part online as part of selfie culture. The digital revolution is devouring its children: numerous studies have shown that constantly being reachable via a digital tether creates a psychological strain that can lead to stress and burnout. The only remedy is logging out, going offline, and leaving the smartphone at home. Plunge into fashion’s daydream world for a welcome respite from the pressures of today’s everyday. So shall it be in the future for a buying public that has spent most of its life staring at a screen: there is no greater luxury than a sojourn in the real, not the digital world.

Der gebürtige Bulgare, dessen Fetisch die Unperfektion ist, ist kein Mann der Regel, denn auf die Frage, warum ihn seit der ersten Kollektion sechs Farben begleiten, antwortet er: „Das passiert unbewusst. Es gibt unzählige Möglichkeiten und Ideen, wenn man diese nicht in Regeln bringt, gibt es Chaos.“ Mit der ­­­­­­­­Ent­­scheidung, erstmals auf einer Messe auszu­ stellen und dem Bedürfnis, sich einem internationalen Fachpublikum zu präsentieren, stellt er die Weichen, um sich auf dem euro­päischen Markt breiter zu positionieren und seine Kollektion für die unterschiedlichen Märkte anzupassen. „Von Beginn an war der asiatische unser größter Absatzmarkt. In Asien werden Design­ teile sowie Showpieces angefragt. Der Kunde schätzt das Konzept, die Idee eines Stückes.

He experiments with cutting techniques, took part in the 2011 Arnhem Mode Biennale, and ranks as one of Germany’s up-and-coming fashion stars. If Bulgarian-born designer Vladimir Karaleev had one fashion fetish, it would be imperfection, and he himself is not one for rules. When asked why his design palette has not exceeded six colors since his first collection, he responded: “That happened without my intending it. There are so many possibilities and ideas that if you don’t keep them under control, there would be chaos.” The decision to take part in a trade show for the first time and to present his designs to international buyers sets the course for positioning himself more solidly in Europe and for attuning his collections to different markets around the world. “From the beginning, the Asian market has been our biggest outlet. In Asia, designer items and showpieces are in demand, and consumers appreciate the concept and the idea of a showpiece”, he says.

“In Europe and the U.S., on the other hand, it comes down to quality, and people want unique basics.” His vision for the Vladimir Karaleev label ten years from now: “Bigger!”

Wir werden eine dazugehörige App vorstellen, die mit jedem Smartphone kompatibel ist.“ Auch passen sich die Jacken der entsprechenden Körperform an. „Der Stoff ist flexibel in jeglicher Hinsicht und daher auch äußerst angenehm zu tragen.“ Moreno Faccincani ist davon überzeugt, dass eine Marke dem Markt gegenüber transparent und flexibel sein muss. Denn wie Puma und G-Star ist auch Moorer einer der Vorreiter in den Offenlegungen der Produktionsstätten und macht bereitwillig Angaben zur Herkunft des Materials. „Jeder Teil unseres Produktionsprozesses ist transparent. Moorer ist ein italienisches Produkt und wird von Anfang bis Ende ausschließlich in Italien hergestellt“, so der Geschäftsführer.

When asking him if it will soon be possible to charge your smartphone inside of your jacket, Moorer’s CEO Moreno Faccincani answers: “Absolutely and there are also connections installed, which the wearer can use to get every individual information about his jacket. Besides that the jacket will always fit perfectly to any body shape. “The fabric is flexible in every direction and therefore very comfortable for the person who wears it.” Moreno Faccincani who has been in charge of the family business since the 1990s is convinced that a brand has to be trans­parent and flexible towards the market. Alongside Puma and G-Star, Moorer has been a pioneer label when it comes to trans­ parency regarding its production facilities or the origins of the materials it uses. “We are transparent to every part of our production chain. Moorer is an Italian product and will be produced from the beginning to the final status only in Italy”, says the company’s director.

This global fashion powerhouse is a family-run business. How does this define company culture?

“In the fashion industry, there is a tendency towards short-term thinking. But a family business lays the foundations for long-term focus and protects cultural values. It is also characterised by a particularly high level of trust,” says General Manager Christian Sieger, who is forging plans for expansion. “Globally, we will certainly be expanding our activities into the new markets, into China or India.” The Siegers place particular value on textile because the materials we wear are a reflection of our souls. “We work exclusively with German and Italian manufacturers.” The last collection had a Gothic influence, inspired by spears, swords and myths; the new Autumn/Winter collection is defined by the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. “The collection is authentic, with diverse geometric patterns.
