Welcome from Pride Glasgow CEO Welcome to Pride Glasgow 2014 Festival Guide. This year’s festival plans to build on the success of recent years and is the result of months of planning and hard work from a dedicated team who are focused on making Pride Glasgow one of the must attend prides in the country. 2014 marks the 18th year for the festival and this year’s festival runs from the 19th of July until the 3rd of August with a 16 day festival of events, a lot of events are still being finalised as we go to print but check

I’m extremely proud that Barclays is the headline sponsor for Pride Glasgow 2014. Participating in the festival in previous years, we’ve seen it go from strength to strength to become the centrepiece of the LGBT calendar. This year, in the build up to the summer Games, we have a fantastic stage to celebrate the power and importance of diversity. As we

out the Pride Glasgow website at www. prideglasgow.co.uk for up an up to date events listings. This year the festival has undergone a few changes with the introduction of ticketing and charges this was a big decision for us to make and it was not an easy decision but it will help ensure the financial sustainability of the festival and help grow the event, it has also allowed us to create The Pride Fund which is designed to support the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans community in Glasgow from the Grassroots, more information about the Pride Fund can be found later on in this guide alongside details of how to donate directly to the fund. We also

At Barclays we work hard to create a culture that enables colleagues, customers and clients to express who they are. We aim to proactively effect change in the workplace and in our local communities. As the sponsor of our LGBT network in Scotland, I was therefore delighted to accept the Stonewall Scotland award earlier this year, recognising Barclays as Scotland’s top LGBT employer for an

The Parade starts from 10am on the 19th of July from Clyde Place and will end at the main event site where you will be able to get your tickets for the main event or exchange your ticket for a wristband and with a range of events over the 16 days we hope you will get involved in some way and support what we hope will be one of the best festivals yet. The theme for this year is Sports and Commonwealth, its your chance to highlight the good work that some Commonwealth countries do in supporting its LGBT Community, highlighting the abuses that LGBT people face in other Commonwealth

unprecedented third year running. We know that we still can do so much more, but I’m pleased that we are already helping to change the face of workplaces for the better. Giving everyone the freedom to be themselves, to flourish and achieve their full potential is central to our business and I hope the Pride festival will help to reinforce this ethos across the city. As one of the friendliest cities on earth, I know first hand that Glasgow will

WE CATCH UP WITH HEATHER PEACE AHEAD OF HER PERFORMANCE AT PRIDE GLASGOW 2014.

First off congratulations on the new album its brilliant and we've had it on non stop what’s your favourite track on the album?

so glad. It then made it very obvious how we would then launch the album. We did it with a rainbow crossing in my home town of Brighton as we had seen the one in Thank you. I'm thrilled you Sydney and it just seemed like it. I like all the tracks like the perfect message for different reasons, for both the single and that's why they made my home town. Brighton it onto the album but "I is very diverse and they Pick Flowers" is the most welcomed the idea with honest and was the one open arms. I found really natural to write. It was easy because You stayed in Glasgow it was how I felt. for a while? How did you like the city? We can Change is such a fantastic song, why did I've worked in Glasgow you chose it to be the for most of the time over first single off the new the last 5 years with both album? Lip Service and Waterloo Road. I love it. It feels It wasn't just down to like my second home. me. Being completely I love the surrounding independent we took landscape which I got to advice from people we explore, even spending knew who were in the my short honeymoon in industry as to what would Perthshire! But Glasgow make a good first single. itself is vibrant and full of This was the track that life, music and soul. I miss came out on top and I'm it and I miss the people! 49

Growing up I always remember watching you in London's Burning and both your acting and music career has come along way since what's been the highlight or highlights of your career to date. I live for the present. It's been 18 years since I left drama school and with both careers

uniform in training with the actual cadets at the Southark training ground in London! I love the differences and changes this job and career brings. Your first huge contract you never forget. Do you believe that Pride is still an important event for the LGBT Community?

“there is still discrimination and homophobia here in the UK and we shouldn't stop until this has been defeated and until we have equality worldwide” there have been incredible highs and sinking lows. There's too much to really single anything out. I guess the biggest change in my life was when I received the call to say i'd got London's Burning. I was backstage in between shows playing Miranda in Shakespeare's "The Tempest" in Stoke. Two weeks later I was in my fire

Absolutely. It's important we celebrate our culture. The people that have gone before us and helped make the changes and the fight that's

“I want to legally call Ellie my wife and for her to call me it too”

still ahead for all LGBT people around the world. It doesn't stop just because some people are ok because sadly there is still discrimination and homophobia here in the UK and we shouldn't stop until this has been defeated and until we have equality worldwide. You got married last year do you welcome the government announcement that Civil Partnerships can be converted to marriages? (and any plans on doing so) Yes absolutely. We will convert to marriage as soon as we are able. It's all about equality for me and it being called the same thing. I want to legally call Ellie my wife and for her to call me it too. Following you on twitter we get to see lovely pics of Bungle he's not named after the rainbow character is he? Yes he is. But he was already called that when I got him. If I'd have picked a name from rainbow he would have been

called Zippy. Plus when I tell people down South his name is Bungle they just say "aw, Bongo what a nice name". I think it's my accent. I've given up trying to correct them. We're really looking forward to seeing you perform at Pride Glasgow 2014 and your set to close the main event any clues on what we can expect from your performance? Nope. You'll have to wait.

Catch Heather on stage at Pride Glasgow 2014 and The Thin Line her brand new album is out now and available from www.heatherpeace.com Tickets for her UK tour in October and November are on sale now

PARTNERSHIP WITH PRIDE Thank you once again to all our sponsors, advertisers and stallholders. This year we welcomed on board many new sponsors particularly Barclays Bank and Tartan Partnerships. But our work is not complete, 2015 planning begins straight away and we need your help! Organisations can support us in many ways, which doesn’t break the bank. We have been supported this year with other ways this year by some organisations: donations, use of venues, cake stalls, dress down days etc. If you work for a corporate organisation you will most likely find if you fundraise for a charity (which we are), they will match your efforts £ for £. So why not hold your own fundraiser, let us know we will come along and support you and your employer will match your efforts. This year for the first time ever we sold out of stalls 2 months before the event begun and have had to turn several away, this is not an easy decision, but certain stalls have to be part of our insurance / licence and we have to submit numbers of stalls and roughly what they are selling in advance, so cant exceed this limit or have products sold that we haven’t received prior approval to be sold. So if you are looking for a stall next year, keep an eye on the form coming on our website start of 2015 and fill it in! We are always looking for sponsors, who can sponsor us in different ways, we have packages to suit every budget, so don’t be scared to get in touch with us about 2015! For more information on how to get your organisation involved contact pride@prideglasgow.co.uk
