Hay tools SB 1290 large square baler
French connection Versatility is key for Kuhn, with its hay and forage tools built to handle a variety of crops and various different baling requirements
With many attachments in its product line-up, French manufacturer Kuhn says it is dedicated to helping farmers optimise their output and performance. In all of these, Kuhn says it strives to deliver the best quality agricultural machinery and prides itself on being a world leader in agricultural equipment innovation and design. Three of Kuhn’s core hay and forage tools are the Merge Maxx, the VB 7100 series round baler and the SB 1290 large square baler. Merge Maxx Kuhn’s Merge Maxx 760, 950 and 1090 belt mergers are highly versatile machines that the company says optimise the raking process for contractors and independent users alike. Whether it is light or heavy forage, dense or sparse, long or short, the Merge Maxx can gather any type of forage to form windrows, with a selection of configurations available to choose from. The Merge Maxx has been designed to pick up all types of forage in a delicate manner that will retain the maximum nutritional value of the forage while minimising the introduction of any impurities. It has a variety of raking widths to suit both largeand small-scale operations, with widths of 7.50m up to 10.95m, giving the mergers the ability to rake up to 20–30m of forage at any one time. To maximise output, the working speed of the Merge Maxx has increased to 3km/h, while producing consistent, uniform windrows. Kuhn’s Merge Maxx belt mergers have also been designed for an efficient ground following. To reduce the pressure on the ground and to preserve the grass stubble, the pick-up units have been fitted with a unique suspension system. The suspension system uses four powerful and
adjustable springs that adapt to the uneven terrain, guiding each pick-up unit perfectly to ensure no forage is missed. VB 7100 Series round baler Kuhn says its VB 7100 series variable chamber round baler sets a new standard in round baling, offering high performance and optimising output. Whether it be silage, hay or straw, the VB 7100 series can deliver a capacity of up to 30 t/ hour in various crop conditions, including straw and other dry products. With the proven four-belt + three-roller design in the bale chamber and Kuhn’s I-Dense system, the VB 7100 can produce round bales with densities up to 140kg per cubic metre, offering fast, secure and consistent bale formation in any crop condition, even silage. In addition to the bale density capabilities, Kuhn’s VB 7100 also has the ability to measure the moisture of the forage and automatically adapts the bale pressure depending on the different crops and crop conditions without interference of the operator.

The VB 7100’s net binding system operates with active stretch technology that guarantees consistent net tension and ensures a sturdy bale shape. The net binding system has also been designed so that operators can facilitate loading from both sides of the machine. Operators can easily slide the net from the net storage into the net binder without lifting the entire roll or load the net from the safety of the ground. The Kuhn VB 7100 also features what the company says is one of the fastest tailgate operations on the market. In just four seconds, a bale can be ejected and the tailgate will be closed again. SB 1290 iD large square baler The Kuhn SB 1290 iD large square baler has been designed to combine performance with operator convenience, producing heavier bales to boost the profitability of baling operations for both contractors and independent operators.. To produce heavier bales, Kuhn’s SB 1290 iD increases the compaction by 60-plus tonnes and, as a result, provides a 25 per cent denser bale than conventional balers. Kuhn’s SB 1290 iD is an all-rounder machine suitable for all crop conditions including silage, hay, straw, lucerne and sugar cane leave and has an intake width of 230cm. Producing bales 120 x 90m, the SB 1290 iD produces square bales bound with a double knotting system. An advantage of a square-edged bale is that the risk of air getting trapped during wrapping is reduced, promoting the conservation of the bale and ensuring better quality feed for livestock. The smart design of the Kuhn SB 1290 iD offers important accessibility to the inside of the machine making maintenance easy to carry out. For added safety, the knotter deck is equipped with solid stairs and a safety railing. To find out more about Kuhn’s hay tools range, head to Kuhn’s website: www.kuhn.com. au/agricultural-machinery
