FROM THE COMMODORE
T
he 2015 Commodore’s Cruise through the British Virgin Islands was a big success. Based on the feedback I have received, everyone enjoyed the sailing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding and our festive gatherings. Special thanks to Alisa Bekins for coordinating our impressive SWAG and the Opening Party, the White Party and the big finale - the Pirate Party. Thanks to Chris Lacey for coordinating the rendezvous with members of the St. Francis Yacht Club to witness the coin toss for the 2015 San Francisco Cup. And, thanks to Jeffery Stein for taking so many great photos especially the group photo at the White Party and at the Pirate Party. This year’s Youth Sailing Fundraiser on March 10, hosted by the Belvedere Cove Foundation (BCF), was not only great fun but also a huge success. The funds raised go directly to supporting our world-class Youth Sailing Program. Special thanks to the BCF Board and especially S/C Kyle Elliott and Alison Elliott for leading the charge on this great event. Communication Timely communication is critical to members being knowledgeable of upcoming events and activities at the Club. The Bulletin will be published six times over the year, approximately every other month. In the interim the Board, Flag Officers, Auxiliary and Committees will be providing news on club activities in the Bow Wave, and on the front page at sfyc.org including updates on events, race results, cruise information, the Speaker Series and other information as needed. I encourage you to stay connected through the Bow Wave for updates including the Spring Member Meeting on April 14, the extremely popular Easter Brunch on April 5 and Opening Day on the Bay festivities on April 26. In May the big events are the wonderful Mother’s Day Brunch, the great Memorial Day BBQ and the playful Mother/Son Dinner Dance. The Bow Wave will also include updates on our adult summer sailing programs including Wednesday Night Match Racing and Thursday Night Womens’ Racing as well as a new and very exciting event on our race schedule - The Auxiliary Cup! Spouses of members are encouraged to send your email address to controller@sfyc.org so that we may be able to set you up with a User Name and a Password to enable you to use the links to events in the Bow Wave and on the front page at sfyc.org. Show Your Colors There are many ways to do this. Did you know that the Burgee Shop will personalize gear for you with The SFYC burgee? All you need to do is bring your gear to the Burgee Shop to send it out for embroidery or imprinting. Another BIG way to show your colors is to consider decorating your boat for Opening Day on the Bay! The Club Series While the winds were too light for the Rosenblum Regatta on March 14th, racers enjoyed a lovely afternoon on the deck. Thanks to Brent Crawford for arranging the sponsorship for the 2015 Club Series including Martin Ray Winery, Dry Creek Vineyard, Trummer Pils and Whole Foods Market. Go Team SFYC!

Annual Auxiliary Potluck Luncheon & Planning Session Thursday, January 15, 2015 Cove House
oppity hop into action! There is no dry spell of events at The San Francisco Yacht Club. The Auxiliary's famous Easter Brunch and Children's Egg Hunt is April 5. Thank you to Carol Anderson, Paige Brooks and Julie Zanze for planning another spectacular Easter Party with a beautiful display of spring flowers, the annual egg hunt, our famous Bunny and his sidekick, plus much more. It will be truly magical! The Mother-Son Dinner Dance is May 30 and a good time is always guaranteed. Jolynn Hardiman and Connie Lewis are planning some special surprises for the evening. This is always a well attended event so don't be disappointed, sign up soon. Opening Day is Sunday, April 26 and also the kick off for the Auxiliary's Annual Raffle. Through our raffle and Annual Fundraiser in September, the Auxiliary is able to provide The SFYC with great events and provide extras that help support other club activities and Youth Sailing. We always appreciate your support! Serving the entire SFYC membership with fun and entertaining events is an objective of the Auxiliary. The Club's website and BowWave have a new look and are much easier to navigate. Since the Bulletin is limited to six issues this year, we encourage everyone to use the website and BowWave for information on all upcoming events
and to make reservations at www.sfyc.org. Also in the works is an Auxiliary Directory to better communicate with all our members. This will include spouses contact information. To help us with this project, please send your email and preferred phone number to gmamooo@aol.com (Marily Rimmer) or hellyreilly@comcast.net (Helen Reilly). Also, don't hesitate to email either of us if you are interested in volunteering for one or more of our events. We encourage you to join the fun! Finally, some very exciting news... The Auxiliary has set up a steering committee to establish the annual Auxiliary Cup. For several years this has been an objective of the Auxiliary and this year we plan to accomplish this goal. Part of our Mission Statement asserts that we will "support selected sailing activities with special emphasis on women through Education, Recognition and Philanthropy." An annual regatta for women developed by women fits very well within this part of our mission. Please stay tuned for upcoming information on this inaugural event. SFYC Auxiliary Co-Presidents, 2015

Fundraiser a Roaring Success!!
T
he Belvedere Cove Foundation’s 4th Annual Youth Sailing Fundraiser was a tremendous success! Held at The SFYC Tuesday, March 10, the sold-out event, raised near-record support and funding for Youth Sailing. A spirited gathering of Sponsors, Donors and bidders assembled at The Club to ‘raise the bar higher’ to support Youth Sailing of all levels. Belvedere Cove Foundation President David Walker and Fundraising Chair S/C Kyle Elliott championed the event with support from Committee organizers Commodore Suzie Moore, Alison Elliott, Director of Sailing Forrest Gay, Dan Buckstaff, Anne Russell, Anne Feinberg and Youth Sailing Director Justine O’Connor. The Club’s Board of Directors also partnered with BCF’s Board of Directors to support and attend the event. The Club’s very own Youth Sailing Volunteers Michael Brandon, Alyson Crowley, Maddy Kuhn, Will Martens, Noble Reynoso and Jackson Ritter added that extra magical ingredient to emphasize the importance of this annual event. Special thanks to the many Sponsors, Donors, bidders and winners!

he days are getting longer and warmer so it’s time to get on our boats and enjoy some good companionship. Whatever you like to do on the water, we think the Cruising Committee has something for you. This year we will run our regular weekend cruises to Pier 39, Petaluma, the Giants Game, the Delta and Half Moon Bay. We are also planning a series of short, local activities to try something new and get more people involved. These activities include our Saturday Angel Island Birthday Party, Monthly Sunset Cruises on Friday nights, an SFYC Cruise-In with the Voyagers Dinner, a July 4th Fireworks Cruise and hot chocolate; as well as a Kids and Family Day in the SFYC Cove. We will also be reaching out to members without boats to join us in the fun. Please check out the Cruising tab on the website for more information. You can sign up for cruises directly from the Club calendar – just like you do for every other SFYC event. You can also call The SFYC Front Desk. Keep an eye on the Bow Wave and Bulletin for reminders of upcoming cruises. Lastly, if you want to be on our Cruising Club List, please send us your name and email so you can stay abreast of all the latest cruising information. (jibmartens@comcast.net) Our next cruise is just weeks away; the Petaluma Butter & Egg Festival on April 24-26. This is a big deal in Petaluma and promises to be a fun as well as relaxing event. The Petaluma River is quite peaceful. Come cruise with us to Petaluma or black top for the dinners. Also not too far away are two great cruises: 1) South Beach/Giants game/Momos May 29-31.
