Meridian Hills ended the calendar year with several outstanding events: the Christmas party, Candlelight Dinner, New Year’s Eve party and employee Christmas party. I hadn’t attended the Christmas party for several years, and was delighted to see the club packed with wide eyed children riding horse drawn carriages, getting their faces painted, and showing off their latest moves on the dance floor. It was a hoot and should be on your holiday wish list for next year. The employee Christmas party was also an outstanding success. Jim Dodson Employees receive raffle tickets for each year of service they have with Club President the club. They use those tickets for one of 40 door prizes, allowing those with a longer history with the club to have a slightly better chance of getting a prize. A photographer was available to take pictures of staff members, their spouse or friend as well as group shots of the employees. This is something that Steve added last year and has been very well received and gives a keepsake for everyone! Chef Joe showed appreciation for our hard working staff, and also five former employees who made significant contributions to the club. We now have a “wall of fame” in the kitchen recognizing the following individuals: Edmond Gass, Executive Chef / 1970-1989 Alex Darvish, Executive Chef / 1997-2000 Mitchell Vaugh, Garde Manager / 1970-2010 Lee Smith, Saucier / 1976-2010 Ruthie Smith, Garde Manager / 1987-2014 Barbara Hill, Garde Manager / 1976-2007 During the January closure weeks, clubhouse repairs, deep cleaning and painting projects were completed. It is a little odd to walk into the club with all the tables removed and see carpet cleaners and tile polishers hard at work. We re-opened January 15th. On January 24th your Board of Directors, Past President’s Council, Committee Chairpersons and members of the management team completed a planning retreat. The outcome of the retreat was the creation of a strategic vision for the club, and operating priorities for this fiscal year. In upcoming editions of the Newsette, the vision and plan will be communicated to our membership. Lastly, winter is an opportune time to invite guests to enjoy the many dining options at Meridian Hills, or simply warm up from the cold with a cup of soup. My favorite is our New England Clam Chowder, and Chef Joe tells me that it is our best-selling soup. I look forward to seeing you at the club. Sincerely, Jim Dodson

Message from theGeneral Manager During the two week shut down during the first of the year, much was done: painting areas from the entrance foyer, the dining rooms, the kitchen, bake shop and golf service hallway, to cleaning all carpets, tile floors, chandeliers, ice machines and a new dual tank water softener was installed. Have you noticed our new glassware in the bars? We now have a new espresso/cappuccino machine in Bogey’s Bar, try one! Also new carpet for Bogey’s Bar will be coming soon. Coming this spring the club will convert to a new management software system. This new system will offer a mobile platform that will allow members to access all club information on your hand held Steve Roper, CCM, CCE devices; account information, upcoming club events and notices, General Manager tee times, a new website, bill pay, dining reservations. Some of which will be phased in, but sooner rather than later. Our communication and information available to you will be better, easier and more accessible.

IN MEMORIAM: Judith L. Davis

Look for February events ‘A Knight for a Princess’ Father/Daughter dance, Friday evening February 6th. A photographer will be on hand, DJ and surprise guests, Queen Elsa & Princess Anna! Also on Saturday, February 14th we have a Valentine’s Dinner featuring a special menu and entertainment. This will be the only menu offered this evening. In March, an event that has been held in years past, a winter indoor putting contest “Putt Putt Passport: Date Night around the World”. This will be an event to have fun with your spouse and friends. It will feature 15 putting holes that will be set up throughout the clubhouse, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and prizes! Adults only, so come join the fun on Saturday, March 14th! See you at the club!

I hope everyone is enjoying a chilly winter season while dreaming of warmer weather to come so we may enjoy more of our wonderful club. Remember, now is the time to be thinking of friends and family who would enjoy becoming a member of Meridian Hills. With our membership process taking some time,those who wish to enjoy the club in the early warmer months must begin the membership application process now. Commit yourself to bringing one new member to the club because a solid growing membership makes us a stronger club.

2015 PGA Merchandise Show Notes

The 2015 PGA Merchandise show was very successful for the Meridian Hills Professional staff this past January. We are excited to show all you the wonderful array of product we have ordered. Brock, AJ and myself plan on giving more of a comprehensive review of the new products in the weeks to come. This will be emailed to all of you and will also be included in the next Newsette.

Advanced Junior Golf Call- Out- Night

One of the most difficult aspects for an teenage junior interested in golf is the transition from the summer junior golf camp experience to the junior tournament ranks. Brock, AJ, and Michael would like to invite any teenage junior interested in continuing golf to our junior golf call-out night. Parents are welcome as well, as we will detail the Indiana Jr. Golf tour, how to sign up, what to expect, and answer any other questions you might have. We will have information for you take home, and hope that you and your junior golfer will leave excited for not only the Indiana Jr. tournament schedule, but also with new friends who he/ she will be able to connect with throughout the summer at MHCC!
