Can you believe how much has transpired since my last column? We hosted several very successful events, sailing camp is in full swing and the most surprising thing of all...the lake is full! The club is ready for you, your families, and your friends to come out and enjoy the abundance of water, food and fun.

The Opening Day Gala on April 11 was an incredible success! With your support and help, our club raised more than $140,000!!! Thank you all for coming out and supporting the junior sailing program, the Starboard Foundation and the harbor projects. The FWBC and the Starboard Foundation purchased a new fleet of FJ’s, several paddleboards & kayaks, cubes/optis and a new coach boat. The new junior dock looks amazing- it is completely installed and ready for your enjoyment. We want to respect and protect our investments, so when you are ready to use these great new lake toys, simply use our check in/out procedures.

The Commodore’s Party on May 30th was also a huge success. With our burgee proudly displayed at every table, our members gathered for a time of camaraderie and cocktails. Rebecca and I enjoyed chatting with you all and celebrating these exciting times at the FWBC. Chef Chris prepared some delicious appetizers for the party- he continues to impress us all with his creativity, skill and fresh ingredients.

In addition, our Derby parties were a galloping success! American Pharaoh ran his way to the Triple Crown with an enthusiastic crowd at the FWBC! That jockey did not even need the whip, American Pharaoh could hear our members yelling from Eagle Mountain Lake!

The Fourth of July is around the corner. Please plan on attending our clubs signature event. The food will be amazing, the lake full, the fireworks breathtaking as we celebrate this great nation of ours.

The level of participation and enthusiasm at the FWBC is at an all time high- lets continue this rise- jump on board and continue to come out and enjoy the fruit of your hard work.

Grab your old friends or come out and make some new ones- the chef ’s food is incredible, the toys are ready and the lake is full- what else can a person ask for on a fine summer day in Texas?

General Manager’s Report

Well, the lake is full (or too full depending on the day) and the warmth of summer is upon us. That means there is plenty of excitement here in the club and plenty of fresh local produce and ingredients becoming available. This means new menus and specials to highlight the season’s best offerings.

I also want to take the opportunity to welcome my new Sous Chef Rehana Shahi. She brings years of experience in restaurant and banquet experience from Oklahoma Casinos and most recently Chef Point Café. She has brought energy and great attitude to our kitchen.

We have many exciting things coming including all the excitement of the 4th of July (a long weekend chockfull of events), Sail Camp and other summer activities. I am also working on menus for our concierge boat service for those looking to entertain while out on the water. Unfortunately, Labor Day will be here before you know it, but plan to join us as we look forward to ending the summer with a bang. Keep reading the email blasts for more upcoming events and special menus.

“GOT WATER”!! How quickly a situation can change. A beach (unusual at the Boat Club), now you see it, now you don’t. Lake closings, dangerous debris in the Lake, messing up Lake time on the weekends, near flooding and then the clean-up – welcome to Fort Worth Boat Club and Eagle Mountain Lake, it’s been an interesting several weeks.

But now your Club is back at full tilt. We’ve sure do “GOT WATER”.

All water activities are good to go. And it’s a wonderful sight to see the Lake full of water and all the boats back in the Harbor. I’m figuring the Boat Club is the place to be for July, August and going forward. There’s big doins goin on at Fort Worth Boat Club over the long Fourth of July Weekend, check out the calendar of the events in this newsletter.

Harbor renovation projects continue. The dredging project is on hold for the time being because the water is too high for the machinery to dig, will resume when conditions allow. Boat House renovations continue as well. Boat House #4 is nearly complete (pretty sweet too) and #3 is next and on to the next (several months on each one) until all are renovated. Sheet Piling is being considered to install in the Boat House Harbor area to shore up the peninsula. The Floating Break Water has been approved for the go ahead rather than repair existing break water. We should see some action on installation by September.

Repairs will be done to fill wash outs on the west sea wall. Fill stone is already on property.

Chef Chris Belanger has made great strides improving menu selections and more importantly, food quality. Membership Dining Room and Bar usage has increased immensely. And Cameron Sawyer has improved dining services. This combination has been a major asset to your Fort Worth Boat Club. This place has been buzzing!!

Clubhouse Manager Report Over the past couple months, activity has been extraordinary at the Boat Club. With Wednesday night sailing and water back in the lake things have been exceptional. We have started a few new traditions that went over very well. The first being the Annual Kentucky Derby party which was a hit, which gave us the idea to a watching party for the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. We will continue to do these parties for many years to come.

Coming up in July we have our over the top July 4th celebration on the lawn. We will have lunch and dinner buffets, music, games, and of course our famous firework display at dark.

Wednesday nights are still a big hit. This month we have been receiving great reviews and even better turn outs for the great food. We still ask that you make reservations in advance.

Membership Report Our second quarter 2015 Membership Mixers began with Backwoods bringing out their latest in camping and hiking gear at the April event. Despite the wet weather, hearty souls attended and seemed to enjoy the latest in product offerings. Thanks goes to Tim Macleod for spending a rainy Friday evening with our members.

The May mixer featured Vela Sailing Supply of Rockwall, Texas. Mike Kelley provided entertainment for our members in the Bar. Although a scheduling conflict prevented our scheduled vendor, TreyMark Vodka from attending our June mixer, they are expected to attend our July mixer. Special thanks goes to Ken Dinkins for bringing his usually high level of singing, musicianship and repertoire for a fun and vibrant Friday evening.

By way of new membership, our 2nd Quarter brought in 26 new members as of this report!

Congratulation goes to our member family 2015 high school graduates! We are all proud of you.

Harbor Report

We are half way through the year and the lake has gone from 12’ down to 3’ over pool, and we have finally settled in at our normal operating pool. The lake is open to boating and we would love to see you. The Bosun shed is still there to accommodate you boating needs with gas, beer, ice, soft drinks and pump outs available at the fuel dock. Since the lake is now at normal pool we have had to reshuffle our priorities to continue with improvements in the Harbor, but we are still continuing forward with our long term goals.

The Harbor was able to make some progress with the dredging project before the lake rose. Approximately half of the motor harbor was effectively dredged as well as around the fuel dock. Moving forward the dredging project has been put on hold until the lake level is accommodating to continue forward.

We have nearly completed remodeling Boat House #4, with the expectation to roll right into Boat House #3 following.

We replaced/repaired the structure under the house, reskinned with attractive White and Harbor Blue panels, re-ran the electric and water under the pathways to accommodate the boat owners better. The Harbor still plans to purchase new larger slips for both cruisers and recreational boats. We are currently evaluating the demand for different sized boat slips so that we know what type of new boat slips to purchase. We are going to make every effort to accommodate all people that request boat slips.

A decision on the break water has been made and is moving forward. The Board of Governors voted on not repairing our current break water wall and moving to a floating one. The reason for this was evident in this last month with such a great deal of fluctuation in the harbor. When the water went too low, the issue became that the waves were able to go under the boards and when the lake was over pool the break water was in effective with water flowing above it. The decision was to move towards the 3 tube configuration called the Wahoo Wave in front of our harbor. The floating system will support all fluctuations in lake level with very low maintenance. The company will begin installation in the next couple months as they try to plan out the construction. We have decided to place the wave break far in front of the harbor to allow a channel of protection learn to sail, kayakers, paddle boards, etc.

Following the Junior Gala the number of FJ sailboats has risen dramatically and the harbor was required to accommodate the recent boat demands. Following that event in preparation for sail camp 12 new EZ dock FJ slips have been installed temporarily in the harbor.

2015 is looking to be a very busy year in the harbor with lots of work to be done. Thanks for your patience while we are working to get it done as most efficiently and cost effective as possible. Proposal is displayed at the bar and suggestions are welcome.

Sailing Director’s Report The FWBC Summer Programs are in full swing. We are currently in the first sessions of Jr. Sailing Camp and have been very busy with lots of kids. The additions of our new paddleboards and kayaks have made camp very fun and added a new dimension to camp.

The kids are having tons of fun and appreciating the gifts that our lake has to offer despite the lake being closed for too much water in the first session. The lake has reopened and the activities have resumed in full measure. We have plenty of space for our upcoming camps so join in on the fun! Our Sailing Team has been very busy with lots of regattas. We have had two TSA events in the last two months and the kids are performing well. Cristian Noe, the Argentinian Olympic Coach, and USNT Coach came to FWBC to perform a clinic for our Opti Race Team Sailors June 13th and 14th. It was an intense training for the upcoming regattas. Our Sailing Team will be traveling to Austin Yacht Club June 20th and 21st to compete in the USODA Mid-American Championships, which will also be the TSA Roadrunner Regatta for Lasers and FJ’s. The Team will also be traveling for Texas Youth Race

Week to Houston July 11th thru 17th. June has been a busy month for the adults. Two-time J/22 World Champion, Terry Flynn, from Quantum Sails came to FWBC to perform a clinic for our J/22 Fleet. We had twenty sailors participate in this outstanding clinic.

In July we are getting set to start our first adult “Learn to Sail” class on July 9th and we have had great reviews from our students. If you are interested in our classes please feel free to contact me.

Fort Worth Boat Club is excited to announce that we now have paddleboards and kayaks that members can check out and use. There is a registration and check out process to use the equipment and we look forward to getting all who wish to use the equipment set up. Feel free to call the club to set up an appointment to get checked out.

I am so proud of all we have going on at the club this summer and look forward to huge success.

Update from the Board of Governors Your Board of Governors met on May 28th and reviewed the current operations of the Club and the progress in the harbor. Wow, what a difference a month of rain can make. With the lake full and even over full adjustments in the harbor improvement plans were considered and decided. In light of the fact that dredging efforts have slowed down, the Board committed to moving forward with the new floating break water that has been in testing just outside of the harbor over the last couple of months. A 1,430 foot barrier will be placed outside the current harbor break water.

Other harbor improvements approved were a continuation of the restoration of the covered docks.

Dock #4 has been completed and docks #3, #2 and #1 will be completed in that order.

The Board also considered the Cabana lease that is up for renewal. A ten-year renewal was approved and work will begin to consider offering a longer term lease later this year.

The Board was pleased to hear of the positive financial operation of the Club food service. Also, the Board received positive reports of the Junior Sailing program and the great plans for the summer Sailing Camps. The high school team for All Saints Episcopal School has been a great offering this spring and the Board encouraged the Club to expand to include other schools.
