JUNE 2017
THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE — Steve Callaway, President May was a busy month at Sequoyah CC. We had a large turnout for Mother’s Day. The service and sense of community was outstanding. The food prepared by Chef Javier Ortiz and his staff was fabulous. If you have not had a chance to enjoy Chef Ortiz’s food, you owe it to yourself to come for menu dining. Oh yeah, please make reservations so we can accommodate your party and serve you properly. The next weekend was our largest tournament of the year. Congratulations to Chair Marc Cunningham for putting together a sold out event. The Committee included Nick Geist, Sam Osman, Chris Conway, Dan Sanford and Glen Vondrick. These men did an outstanding job on the tournament — all the traditions of past Invitationals plus many additions such as a cigar bar, nightly music, a bagpiper, etc. The dinner for the Finale was awesome once again. Congratulations go to the entire committee for revitalizing this tournament. The Men’s Invitational beat every revenue estimate due to the tremendous member support. The tournament donated $1,500 to the Ladies Invitational so they can have a wonderful time this August. Thank you to all the ladies who volunteered and helped make this Invitational so successful. Congratulations to the tournament winner Marc Gordon and his guest, Bob Staples. Here is a large surprise. Cheers to our low gross winner, second year in a row, Jason Cox and his partner from college, Jared Taylor. Their tournament included back-to-back gross eagles on 18
and 1. And finally, acknowledging our Horse Race winners, Pritam Dhaliwal and Connor Callaway. This is the first all left-handed team to win the Horse Race. Funding from Fremont Bank has been received, so we will begin Phase I the day after Memorial Day. Because we will be using the Clubhouse while this project progresses, it will be staged. The first stage will be to clear the Skyroom, install additional electrical outlets, and install the equipment. We expect the Fitness Facility to be functional on June 15th. We are still waiting on some permits. Once those are received, we will begin
converting the Grill Room to the Members’ Bar. Then, we will move into the Terrace Bar and complete some more work in the current Skyroom. As they say, please excuse our dust as we improve. June is US Open month. So come out and enjoy your course, pool, and dining facilities. We have a lot of new members, so if you see someone you don’t recognize, please introduce yourself. Sequoyah is a special place and a special environment. Come enjoy. Did we talk about the need to make reservations?

Tournament Central Our 2017 Men’s invitational concluded on May 20th and what a great event it was! Our Invitational Committee, led by Marc Cunningham, reinvigorated the event which had a field of 142 players. The course conditions, special events (Bluegrass band, drone fly over video, etc.), food, service and camaraderie, were superb. We will be rolling out the big guns for the 2018 Invitational — be on the lookout for information towards
