Junior Golf Facts With the expansion of the Shady Canyon Junior Golf Development Program and the creation of the Junior Golf Team, there are more reasons than ever to get involved with your Club as a junior golfer. Here are some facts about the program.

Fact- Participating in junior golf teaches life skills like honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, dedication, etiquette, and self discipline. Fact- Golf is a game that you can play an entire lifetime. If we could to give an award for time spent practicing over years (not months) Max Bidna would certainly be at the top of the list. We have watched his golf game grow since he started around eight years ago, and steadily improve to a tournament caliber player. Max is always quick to engage in conversation, very knowledgeable on the rules, and it’s always fun to join him for a round of golf. He takes his game very seriously and has always been an active part of the Shady Canyon Junior Golf Program. Here’s more about Max Bidna, our Junior Golf Spotlight this month. The Shady Canyon Junior Team posted a third consecutive victory in their home match with Big Canyon CC on October 16th. Both teams battled in less than perfect weather as rain descended on the course at dusk. The win was the closest match to date with a score of 100 to 94 in the par point format. Congratulations to players Max Bidna, Robert Deng, Brendan Hedigan, Bryan Hong, Garret Nourse, Trey Anderson, Meghan Condas, Nicole Condas and Rory Blatchford for a great group effort. Thanks also to all the parents that helped and to Robert Pang, PGA and Sandy Huber of Big Canyon for getting a team together for the off season match. The away match with Big Canyon will be played on Saturday Nov. 6th at 2pm, at Big Canyon Country Club.
Junior Golf Development Program As we transition into the holidays and prepare for a extensive 2011 season of Junior Golf activities, the look and feel of Junior Golf at Shady Canyon will be quite noticeable. The Fall Junior Team Play Matches were a huge success and will continue. We will have Junior events on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. These events will be on course for 9 holes. One of the major goals for the 2011 season is to increase access to the golf course for our young players. We will officially enter into the Southern California PGA Junior Team League Matches in the summer of 2011 and we will compete in a division with other local private clubs to include Big Canyon CC, Santa Ana CC, Mesa Verde CC, Newport Beach CC, and Seacliff CC. To prepare for these new events it is necessary to provide a structured year-round program to allow our Juniors to steadily improve and advance one tier at a time. Each tier will involve different levels of expertise and task completion. Swing mechanics, rules of golf, etiquette, club policies, how to practice, how to play, fitness, nutrition, sun protection, social interaction, and life lessons will all be a part of the complete Junior golfer. Here is a snapshot on how we will structure the program: BASIC INSTRUCTION Fundamental golf principals of swing and etiquette taught by our PGA professionals. JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT Clinics and play days, and monthly junior events to provide our junior players an opportunity to begin developing the skills needed to tryout & participate in the Shady Canyon Junior Team.
Post Your Scores Attention Juniors. Please sign up for the Golf Handicap Index Network (GHIN). If you do not have an official handicap and a GHIN number, please stop by or call the golf shop and enroll. There is NO COST to junior golfers to sign up for this service, THAT MEANS FREE! It is a great way to track your progress and to understand how the posting and handicap procedure works. In addition, all Junior Team Members for the 2011 season will be required to be enrolled in the official GHIN network.
SHADY CANYON JUNIOR GOLF TEAM Form a competitive Junior Golf Team to compete monthly amongst themselves as well as represent Shady Canyon in the OC Junior Golf League. COMPETITIVE PLAY Prepare our Junior Golfers for high-level competitions in the SCPGA/IJGT/AJGA Tournaments, and for team competitions at the High School and Collegiate level.
