At the end of March we reached the midpoint of our current fiscal year, and the financial performance of the club is basically on plan. The weather has caused revenue reductions, but, likewise, the weather has caused expense delays. For example, golf rounds are down compared to a normal year, reducing cart rental and guest fee revenues; however, delays in weather related golf course maintenance have resulted in lower maintenance spending. Restaurant and bar revenues are slightly lower than expected, but expenses have been managed below plan, offsetting the lower revenue. Initiation fees are below plan and that also appears to be weather related since number of membership inquiries has increased Bill Smith in April. The lower expenses generally balance the lower revenues and Club President that means all the services, events, programs, and scheduled capital projects for the year can proceed as planned. It is expected that club revenues and expenses will meet the budgeted amounts in the second half of the year. These results should produce an increased cash reserve, the planned annual reduction in long term debt, and capital spending above the level of the past several years.

Additionally, we are in final negotiations to refinance the long term loan incurred for the Hawk Project renovations. A lower interest rate and more favorable covenants will reduce interest payments and provide more financial flexibility for our club.

For several months I have expected warm weather and outside activities to increase, but this month I actually see a few green leaves and some sunshine: therefore, good weather must finally be here. I urge you to come and enjoy the many wonderful attractions at your club.

ClubExcellence will summarize all survey information and provide a comprehensive report to Club Management. Please know that the identity of all respondents will remain confidential. The first 100 respondents will be awarded their choice of a buffet dinner for 2; Wednesday Night Pasta, Friday Night Prime Rib or Sunday Brunch!

Message from theGeneral Manager The pool will open later this month and Aquatics Management of Indianapolis has been engaged to manage and maintain the pool.

The pool manager, lifeguard staff and swim team coaching will all be managed by AMI under the direction of Jeff Blume, President and General Manager (jeff.blume@indianapolis-pmg.com). Our new swim team coach is Lauren Tarka. Lauren has coached swim teams in San Francisco and West Virginia and was a collegiate swimmer at Marshall University. She is currently a teacher here in Indianapolis in the Teach for America program.

We are now taking reservations in Bogey’s Bar for dinner. Reservations will be accepted for parties of 2 to 6 ONLY at 5:30pm and 7:30pm ONLY. All other seating will be as tables become available, the large round table and bar seats will be first come. The patio areas off of the Hearth Room & Bogeys will be open for service on Friday, May 2nd.

I want to welcome back Kelly Letzler, our Catering & Events Coordinator, to the team at MHCC. Kelly rejoins us after a year’s absence and brings back with her the expertise in planning your private events, whether it is a special once in a lifetime event, business meeting or social function. She weighed 7 lb 3 oz and was 20 1/4 inches long.

As Membership gains steam going into spring, we are pleased to announce that the Refundable Certificate membership program has been reactivated by the Membership Committee and the Board of Directors.

Only people that were members in 1989 are Refundable Certificates holders. These certificates were issued due to a payment of a capital improvement assessment made in 1989. These Refundable Certificates can be given or sold to NEW Tennis or Golf members or to EXISTING members that are transferring from Clubhouse to Tennis or Golf or transferring from Tennis Tom Foster to Golf. The value of the Refundable Certificate can be allocated to Initiation fees only, not Membership dues. If you hold a Refundable Certificate and are interesting in allocating it to someone, please Committee Chairman contact Jessica Bex. If you know of a NEW member or if you are an EXISTING member and you are interested in having a Refundable Certificate allocated to you, please contact Jessica Bex in Membership; 860-1556 or jessicab@mhcc-indy.com. Fine Print This program is eligible for Refundable Certificate Holders only.

Multiple gifts will be allowed: You can use total certificate amount towards more than 1 person. e.g. $7,500 certificate can be applied towards 2 new members; $5,000 can be redeemed towards a tennis initiation fee and $2,500 given to a Junior Golfing member toward their initiation fee.

Partial gifts will be allowed. e.g. If a member holds a $7,500 certificate and gives it to a new Tennis member with a $5,000 initiation fee, they will have a remaining value of $2,500 The new member will have the choice of using the certificate value to reduce the initial fee and/or may be used towards multiple years of installments.

All redemptions will be handled internally and will be directly applied to the initiation fee of the new member. MHCC will not be distributing any checks.

Redemption is determined by date of application by the new or upgraded member.

Upcoming Events Indianapolis 500 Chartered Bus Service

Sunday, May 25th, 2014 Continental Breakfast, 7:30 - 8:45am / Buses leave MHCC at 9:00am SHARP MHCC is offering chartered bus service to and from the Indy 500 on Race Day. On race morning, continental breakfast is available at MHCC from 7:30am to 8:45am. We ask our passengers to board their bus by about 8:45am, ready for departure at 9:00am. You will arrive at the track in plenty of time to see the pre-race activities. We have reserved parking spaces on 16th street across from the track.

After the race, the bus drivers are instructed not to leave until their bus is full or until one hour after the conclusion of the race.

The cost is $80.00 per person. It includes continental breakfast, box lunch and round trip to and from the track. (We ask that you observe the deadline of May 5th. Reservations received after May 5th will be increased to $90.00 per person.) *May 21st is the final deadline.

We encourage all members to use MHCC as their prime tennis arena for the summer months. Ludo has hired fantastic tennis crew this year with three extremely strong players and qualified instructors. We believe that there is not a more solid coaching staff in the city this year and that we will strongly improve your tennis skills.

Mixed Doubles - These events are fun for all levels of play. We usually do it on the last Thursday or Friday evening of the month under the lights with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. There is always a different theme for the evening. Sometimes we will put the men against the ladies and other times mix it up. If you need to sign up as a single we will provide you with another single partner.

Parties - If a student would like a tennis pro to run a birthday party, we would happily help you with that. We will give out prizes during a fun clinic.

Junior Tennis

Another summer is fast approaching and we at Meridian Hills are happy to say that this year might be the best tennis staff that we have had in the last 10 years. We are asking you to sign your children up for summer tennis as soon as possible, so that we can plan accordingly our staffing plans. We are looking for a great summer and each of our pros is looking forward to making this year the best for each of our members.

This year I will be working along side Sam Miles, Will Stackhouse, Daniel Delgado, Lilly Iffert, Kelly Fritz and Ari Gernstein, all of whom are returning to Meridian Hills from previous years of experience. Meridian Hills will have one of the best student to staff ratio in the city. I am very proud of the ensemble that I have brought together and I am anticipating that this year will be one of the best years for tennis at Meridian Hills.

Demo Day

Saturday, May 24th / 11am – 4pm The MHCC driving range will be lined with the latest and greatest product lines from Callaway, Titleist, Taylor Made, Cobra, Nike, and Ping. Each company representative will have either Trackman or Flightscope technology on site. This is a great opportunity to sample full product lines from all equipment companies. A full bar will be available where you can order drinks for member charge, along with a grilled lunch for your enjoyment!

If you’re looking to upgrade your bag, improve your club fit/ specs, or are simply interested in trying out and viewing the new technology these companies offer, save the date…SATURDAY, MAY 24TH!

Saturday Morning Choose-up

Beginning in May you can sign-up for a Saturday Choose-up in the golf shop. There will be three tee times from 8:30am-8:50am reserved for those players. We will either add tee times or eliminate the Choose-up depending on the reception from the membership.

Mother’s Day Sunday, May 11th

Its never to early to consider that special gift for your mother on Mother’s Day. Bembenick’s Golf Shop serves as your one-stop-shop, complete with the latest fashions and styles that every mother loves! Many of the styles carried in Bembenick’s shop are non-golf specific, offering choices for all. Remember your mother or wife on her special day, Sunday, May 11th.
