President’s Message Our club has served its members for 87 years now, providing each successive generation a comfortable place for recreation, fellowship and family activities. Thankfully, we’ve been blessed with leadership which planned for the future while carefully making good use of the resources of the present. I hope you’ll agree the same holds true today. Today, we’re enjoying our newly up-dated facilities; the result of several years of planning and execution by forward-looking boards of directors and presidents. Our clubhouse, always an Board of Directors Jack M. Woodside – President attractive place to take guests, has been re-appointed and updated in Dan Baker such a way that it remains the best Michael Bova such country club facility in the Dale Duncan city. Janet Griffith Estes We have a golf driving range Mark Ford and short-game practice facility Chris Seger that are the equal of any other club in the area. Thanks to our early Steve Stitle, Sr. Spring, I’ve been thrilled with the Steve Webster usage the range and practice area Legal Counsel - Jim Zoccola has received already, and can attest Treasurer - Todd Hillman that the range and short game area are spectacular. Likewise, our newly-re-done tennis facility has been very busy lately, and the paddle courts were heavily utilized over the winter. This area of our club is likewise the best in the city. Soon, you can expect us to find ways to be better stewards of our resources as we begin a recycling program and become more environmentally-conscious consumers of natural resources. With the expert guidance of member Sara Snow, I expect to be able to report favorable results soon. You also can expect to see modern-day Dining Hours “point of service” technology replace our Tuesday-Sunday Lunch: 11:30am - 2:00pm quaint -but out-dated --- method of written Dinner: 5:30pm - 9:00pm orders for food and beverage. Other areas Brunch: 10:00am - 2:00pm of operation are also being assessed for potential improvement. I hope you’ll agree we’re on the right track and that you will share our club with your friends, particularly with those who could be new members. Our club has never been more attractive, and you will read elsewhere in this Newsette about the special efforts underway to attract new members, who are the lifeblood of any organization such as ours. As always, you are our best ambassadors. Jack M. Woodside

Message from the Manager Hello again and welcome to another great season at MHCC. May is a great time of year in Indy and at Meridian Hills. The ladies and men have just completed their opening day events, and Ludo is geared up for another great season on the courts. Later this month, Pool Manager, Scott Fenstermaker, and his staff will get ready for our Memorial weekend opening, poolside cook-out and another terrific year at the pool. We hope you notice and enjoy some of the aesthetic changes that have been made at the pool. A fresh coat of deck paint, refurbished chaise lounges and potted plants throughout should give the pool a warmer feel. I would like to thank our Kids Club Director, Dawn Hetzler for her dedicated service to Meridian Hills the past five years. Dawn will be leaving us in May to prepare for the birth of her second child. Dawn has been a delight to have on our staff, and has made the Kid’s Club a creative, safe and fun environment for all the kids. We wish her well in the future and will miss her greatly. Thanks Dawn for all you have done!

Kevin O’Laughlin, CCM Club Manager

As we begin our busy season, I would like to remind members of a couple of important Club rules and recommendations. Please exercise caution in leaving valuable items in your vehicles. Each year we experience a couple of unfortunate car break ins. Typically it involves a purse, briefcase, laptop, golf clubs or similar valuable item which is left in plain view through the window of your vehicle. The Club is not responsible for damage or loss which occurs under these circumstances. Thank you for your cooperation.

We always enjoy seeing so many of our younger members with children utilizing the dining rooms, and would like to encourage and enforce consistent rules for all members. Just a reminder that children are to be under continual supervision of an adult while at the Club. For your child’s safety and well being, children are not allowed to roam throughout the clubhouse, parking lot, club grounds or on the golf course at any time unless accompanied by an adult. Please help our management staff by adhering to this important Club rule.

Most of you who use the Kids’ Club on a regular basis will be pleased to here that two of your favorite staff, Hannah Burris and Bryn Morwick, will be returning this season. Hannah and Bryn have many exciting activities planned this summer for your children including several off-site field trips and Mom’s Day Outs for the kids. I hope that each of you will take advantage of this terrific service. The staff and I are looking forward to a great summer that’s filled with sun and fun at MHCC. I hope that each of you makes a commitment to use your club and all it has to offer to its fullest. Our entire staff is eager to see you, your family, and your guests enjoy a round of golf, a swim at the pool, dinner in one of our great dining rooms, a tennis match, a workout at the fitness center, or whatever you enjoy the most at Meridian Hills. Just a reminder to mark your calendars for all of the special events planned throughout the upcoming months. We continue striving to provide you with a variety of new events, in addition to our traditional offerings. Our goal is to have something for everyone. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if there is anything we can do for you to help achieve this goal. Sincerely, Kevin www.meridianhillscc.org

Reminders...

Birth Announcement Amber and Michael Woodside welcomed a baby girl named McElla Lynn on April 16th, 2010. She is their first child, as well as the first grandchild for Club President, Jack Woodside and his wife Mary Jo.

The MHCC swim lesson program is a comprehensive learn-to-swim program and offers basic water safety skills for kids of all ages. Tired of missing lessons due to a busy schedule? Mission of Junior Golf

The MHCC Junior Golf program is designed to create a fun atmosphere in an attempt to hook a young golfer on the game quickly. At Meridian Hills, we create a fun and energetic environment to showcase the game of golf and encourage the development of the junior golfer(s). Focus is placed on the game’s history, rules, proper golf etiquette, and the basic fundamentals of the golf swing. The program will also provide a competitive experience for our more accomplished junior players. Our goal is to have each young golfer excited about coming to Meridian Hills to learn and play this wonderful game we all love!
