NOVEMBER 2017

THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE — Steve Callaway, President We have our Annual Meeting on Saturday morning November 11th. This will be followed by the President’s Cup. This is an opportunity for members to hear a recap on the Club’s progress over the past year, the Board’s plans for the future, and to ask questions of the Board. This meeting is followed by the President’s Cup tournament. Please let the Club Office know if you are coming to the Annual Meeting and sign up with the Pro Shop for the golf tournament. In October, we held the 18 Holers’ Beat the President Tournament. We had great participation. Three ladies dominated and Beat the President. Congratulations to Adrienne Kohler, Ellie Ross and Luisa Farquhar on their fine rounds. This is the final edition of the President’s Message for my term as President. Reflecting on the year, our Board is proud of the new management structure established. There are high expectations for our new managers: Bryan Richardson, Sally Otsuka, Armando Sanchez and Javier Ortiz. They join our existing managers Carla Hunt, Debbi Wilson, Santos Mejia, Mike Jacinto and Brandon Huneke. We expect our new management team will create a club with service and amenities all members and guests will proudly enjoy. We had many committee members contribute to Sequoyah’s success this past year. This includes members of the House, Greens, Golf Activities, Finance, Entertainment and Membership Com-

mittees. There are also the formal golf organization members like the Niners, 18 Holers, Seniors and Invitational Committee. Sequoyah thrives because of member-driven events, ideas and contributions. Thank you goes out to every member who donated time and effort during the past year to make our club better. A special “thank you” to every member involved in the membership development efforts in the past few years. We have a record number of new members joining Sequoyah. Bob Bodman led the effort as our Membership Director. But the success of membership development could only happen with your efforts as recruiters, ambassadors, interviewers and cheerleaders. The members and the Club comradery are unique to Sequoyah CC. The feeling of welcome is what makes our club special. Thank you to the directors for your contributions this year. We must have set a

record for conference calls, emergency meetings and executive meetings. Each of you made Board work a priority and a significant personal time commitment. This includes Recording Secretary Robin Nelson and Past President Dave Cannon. The directors are Peter Scott, David Stein, Mike Stearns, Don Steffen, Jerry Bajada, Marc Cunningham, Steve Hart, and Bob Wright. Thank you. Peter Scott finishes a four-year commitment of service to Sequoyah. Peter was recording secretary in 2013 – 14. He then contributed three years as a director. During this time, Peter chaired the House Committee and Greens Committee. He was always the first to come to the Club to sign a needed check, worked tirelessly on clubhouse redesign, and completed the Pro Shop refurbishing. This past year, he was on the Executive Committee as Club Secretary. If you see Peter, please thank Mr. Scott for his significant contribution to Sequoyah.
