JUNIOR GOLF
T
he Junior Golf Program at Palo Alto Hills is one of the finest in the area. Our golf professionals strive to provide world class instruction for our juniors. The program has seen incredible success over the years and continues to grow and improve. Our mission is to provide Junior Members access to the game of golf through a program that builds character values, offers a fun and safe experience and instills confidence through personal achievement. SESSIONS There are four six-week sessions offered during the year. Children and grandchildren of Members, ages 6-12, are eligible to participate. Students are grouped using a colored hat system. Each group has a specific curriculum designed to teach students the basic elements of the full swing, short game, putting, rules and etiquette. SESSION COST RED GROUP

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FEE A one-time fee of $125 per child covers the cost of uniforms (Hat, Polo & Short/ Skort) as well as materials used during the program. All remaining proceeds go directly into the Junior Golf Program.

CLASS LEVELS LEVEL
DESCRIPTION
RED HATS Ages 6-8
-Entry level class with basic elements of golf. -Includes, but not limited to, grip, posture, balance, basic golf terminology, rules, etiquette and safety. -No testing required to participate.
RED & WHITE HATS Ages 6-8
-Second level of instruction for the beginning golfer. -Students must pass the Red Hat test or be evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff to be eligible.
BLUE HATS Ages 6-10
-Reinforces the instructional content of the Red Hat group. -Delves into additional basic/intermediate concepts and aspects of golf -Students are required to pass the Red & White Hat test to advance the Blue Hat level or been evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff.
BLUE & WHITE HATS Ages 8-12
-Designed for intermediate junior golfers with a functional knowledge of basic golf swing concepts, rules & etiquette. -Focus is getting students “golf course ready”. -Students will begin to use the knowledge learned previously to successfully play golf with less supervision. -Intermediate concepts are introduced such as the rules of golf, pace of play, cause and effect and golf course etiquette. -To enroll, students are required to pass the Blue Hat test as well as submit three signed 9-hole scorecards from any Blue PGA/ U.S. Kids Family Tees from any golf course to participate in the Blue/White hat class or been evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff.
BLACK HATS Ages 8-12
-For intermediate/advanced junior golfers. -Ideally, students at this level are playing, following and practicing golf regularly on their own. -Building on the foundation of previous classes, instruction delves deeper into intermediate/advanced golf concepts. Course management and strategy introduced enabling students to obtain lower scores. -More individualized and specific to each student’s needs. Self-reliance and independence are strongly emphasized. -Black Hat students should have the ability to play golf under adult supervision within the pace of play guidelines. -Students wishing to enroll are required to pass the Blue & White Hat test, establish a USGA GHIN number as well as submit three signed 9-hole scorecards with a score lower than 45 from any Blue PGA/ U.S. Kids Family Tees from any golf course or been evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff.
BLACK & WHITE HATS Ages 8-12
-Designed for advanced/ competitive junior golfers who have made golf a priority and seeking to continually improve and advance to the next level. -Main focus is lowering scores and preparing for competitive golf. Ideally, this golfer has the desire to successfully compete in junior golf association tournaments as well as our own Junior Club Team (travel team). -Little supervision should be required and students should have a better than average concept of all aspects related to the game. -Students wishing to enroll are required to pass the Black Hat test, have a USGA index of 30.0 or lower and submit 9 scorecards from any USGA rated tees from any golf course or been evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff. TESTING In order to provide a consistent and standardized testing process, testing will be conducted in an independent and unbiased manner. Students may take a test if and when they are ready to move up to the next level. All testing criteria are derived directly from the program curriculums. Test Day #1: Sunday, March 8 Test Day #2: Sunday, July 5
JUNIOR GOLF TEAMS PRE-JUNIOR TRAVEL TEAM For aspiring competitive junior golfers ages10+. Interclub matches are held for juniors wanting to compete and hone their skills on the golf course. Students wishing to enroll in these matches must have a USGA index of 30.0 or lower, successfully passed all of the Junior Golf program tests, can walk 9 holes within the required Pace of Play guidelines, or be approved by a member of the Golf Shop staff. Matches will take place on: Sunday, April 5 at 4pm Sunday, April 19 at 4pm Sunday, May 10 at 4pm Sunday, May 24 at 4pm

JUNIOR TRAVEL TEAM For those who want to learn and play golf in a competitive atmosphere. Palo Alto Hills is part of the Bay Cities League of Junior Golfers, the premier junior golf league in the nation. The league has offered a competitive atmosphere for Bay Area Junior golfers since 1967. It consists of 30 private and semi-private golf clubs in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, ranging in location from The Olympic Club to Pasatiempo. These clubs are all among the top rated and most admired golf courses in the world. The team is open to all junior golfers who meet the following criteria: • Must have the ability to walk 18 holes. • Players must be able to play from Championship Tees. • Must have “better than average” knowledge of the rules of golf. • Enjoy playing in a competitive atmosphere. • Can manage themselves in an appropriate manner with little supervision. • Are able to travel to other local courses. • Are available for play most Saturdays from June through August. • Will not reach 21st birthday before January 1st of the upcoming season. JUNIOR GOLF EVENTS JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Saturday, August 8 Juniors ages 10-21 compete in a stroke play event. All eligible players will be flighted according to age and handicap. The winner of the boys and girls Championship Flight will be declared the 2014 Junior Club Champion and will have their name inscribed on the perpetual Junior Championship Trophy.
PARENT JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP Sunday, October 18 The Parent Junior Tournament is a way for juniors and parents to compete in a fun Alternate Shot format. Parents and juniors are flighted based on the junior’s highest completed junior golf program level.

wimming is no longer just a summer past time. Our pool is heated yearround at the perfect temperature for recreational or lap swimming. Aquatic activities are available for both adults and children.
JUNIOR & ADULT SWIM LESSION AND CLINICS Swim lessons are available year round for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Whether it is your child’s first time swimming on their own or you want to master the butterfly, our qualified instructors can help reach goals while having fun! Lessons are available to Members, Members’ children, grandchildren, and Members’ Guests and are based on instructor availability. Sharks: Junior Swim Team Program
Children and grandchildren of Members are welcome to participate in our yearround Junior Swim Team Program. The summer season boasts daily practices, weekly swim competitions, team-bonding events, and more. During practices, swimmers devote time to technique of all four swim strokes, speed, endurance, dives and turns while making unforgettable memories. We have Pasta Feeds after Friday practices in the summer, great for swimmers to socialize and get pumped for the swim meets. After each meet, we have a fun tradition of BBQing at our home pool where families can bring their own food to grill. Don’t forget, the Sharks swim year-round! Spring and Fall practices are great for staying in shape and working on skills during the off season.

Swimmers in this group will have some level of swim team practice experience. The focus is on building strength and endurance in every stroke through drills, multiple lengths and on deck coaching. Swimmers should be able to swim anywhere from 20-60 laps per practice. Recommended age: 6-10 years old.
GOLD GROUP
Monday-Friday 4:45-6:00 pm Saturday 9:00-11:00 am
Gold Group swimmers are introduced to the basic training environment. The focus is on technique while introducing race strategy and basic interval training. The continuing improvement on stroke technique, starts, and turns are a focus every single day. A minimum of 60 laps per practice is expected. Recommended age: 11 & up, but please take into consideration current swimming level.

PRACTICE MEET & KICKOFF BBQ May 31 Kick off the season with one of our traditional BBQs after our Practice Meet. This is a great chance for all swim team families to get to know one another and to get a feel for what swim meets entail. We look forward to seeing the whole team there!
END OF SEASON AWARDS DINNER July 12 Join us to help celebrate another great summer for the Sharks. We’ll finish the season with an awesome pool deck party after our last meet of the season. Dinner, dancing and awards are all included in this celebration of our beloved Sharks.

JUNIOR TENNIS
T
he Palo Alto Hills Junior Tennis program offers two tennis professionals, Bob Jaeger & Eric Barry. Their efforts focus on technique development when introducing or improving this lifelong sport to children of all levels. The junior program is categorized by age and level of play. Please use the chart to find the appropriate class. If you have any questions, please contact the Acqua Spa & Fitness desk at 650-917-5141. LEVEL
DESCRIPTION
TINY TOTS Ages 4-6
Bring children for an energetic and fun 30 minute class that introduces them to the game of tennis. This class is for the very young who want to come to the Club and start developing hand eye coordination using tennis related drills and games.
BRONZE TEAM Ages: 6-8 (Orange Ball, 36’ Service Line Court)
This group will focus on the fundamentals using basic drills and games. Major emphasis will be on forehand and backhand ground strokes along with the service motion. Scoring will be introduced. Softer balls and smaller court sizes will be used. Eight year olds may pick this level or the Silver level depending on their physical size, prior tennis experience and level of coordination.
SILVER TEAM Ages 9-10 (Green Dot Ball, 60’ Blue Line Court)
This group is for beginning and intermediate level players to cover the fundamentals with drills and basic match play. Forehand and backhand ground strokes, serve, some spinning of the ball and net play are regular components of this class. Fun games and match play will close out each lesson.
GOLD TEAM Ages 11 & Up (Yellow Ball, 78’ Full Court)
This 90 minute group is for beginning and intermediate level players and will cover all areas of the game including first & second serves, topspin ground strokes and net play. Point situation drills will be used in addition to lots of minutes pounding balls off the ball machine to groove strokes. Fun games and match play will close out each lesson.
JUNIOR EXCELLENCE TRAINING (Invitation Only)
This 2-hour practice is for the serious intermediate to advanced level player who wants to work hard to improve their game. All spins on ground strokes and serves are developed. Drills will be used to strengthen the student’s ability to place the ball with the appropriate trajectory and ball speeds in order to dictate play. Games and match play with a strong focus on singles and doubles strategy and shot selection will close out each lesson. Perfect for tournament players and students who are going to be or are playing on high school teams.

THEME CAMP Monday-Friday, 9:00am-3:30pm Theme Camp is better than ever with a full summer of tennis, golf, swimming, active games, crafts and fun for children ages 5-9. Since this may be a young child’s first camp experience, we make an extra effort to provide a relaxed environment where a camper can safely develop new skills, explore diverse interests and make new friends. Our staff-to-camper ratio ranges from 1:5 to 1:10, depending on the activity.

TWEEN EXTREME CAMP Monday- Friday, 9:30 am – 3:30pm Tween Extreme Camp, for ages 9-12 years old, takes PAH Summer Camp to the next level! Come join in the extreme fun and play hard. We will learn and play multiple sports such as soccer, volleyball and flag football. We will also get in the pool for relays, dive contests and water polo. There won’t be a shortage of activities. When we’re taking a breather, we will paint graffiti on canvas, go on club wide scavenger hunts, make jerseys, explore our surroundings through nature hikes and so much more! This camp will keep everyone active. Our staff-to-camper ratio ranges from 1:8 to 1:12, depending on the activity.

LIT (LEADER IN TRAINING) program Monday – Friday Half Day- 9:00 am-1:00pm Full Day- 9:00am-3:30pm The Leader In Training (LIT) program is a supplemental program that focuses on developing various leadership skills and learned responsibilities as a participant. Campers will acquire the necessary fundamentals and training to prepare them for future endeavors in a work environment. Lifelong skill-sets emphasized include learning basic first aid, safety and awareness, behavior management, communication, decision making, activity planning and set up while working in a team building atmosphere.

TWEEN NIGHTS Food Fight Fiasco February 27 A favorite of PAH Tweens is back for another year. If you thought last year’s food fight was messy, just wait until this year! Activities will include a pie throwing contest, Kool Aid filled squirt guns, potato cannons and more! Amazing Race May 29 Join us for a race to the finish in this Tweens only night of awesome games and puzzles that are both mentally and physically challenging. Murder Mystery Dinner October 30 Was it Mr. Green in the ballroom with the candlestick? Come find out at our

hat better place to learn Club etiquette than at the Club? Our Fancy Manners class was so popular last year that we decided to do it again. This time we’re bringing you more classes and more topics for all ages! Club Etiquette (ages 5 & Up) January 16 We will be talking about everything from golf etiquette to dining etiquette. We’ll talk about dress code, Club rules and everything in between. Table Manners (ages 5-8) April 17 From what fork to use to proper dinner conversation, we’ve got you covered in this basic etiquette class. After we’ve learned all of these new skills, we’ll put them to good use with a special dinner just for kids! Social Media (ages 9-12) October 16 In the world of technology, it’s hard to know what may or may not be safe or appropriate to put online. We’ll cover Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more.

A brand new series for 2015 to help kids become Super Kids Lifesaving Class February 13 Kidz can be heroes too! Not only will we have fun, but we will be learning lifelong skills that even kids can use! Self Defense Workshop March 20 It’s kool to be safe! KIDZ WITH A CAUSE SERIES
K
idz with a Cause is a fun and educational series geared towards kidz ages 6 and up to show how grateful we are by giving back! Each Kidz with a Cause event benefits a charity or organization in need with proceeds or goods from the event. Please join us for a year filled with gratitude. Kits for Kids January 30 Come make a difference in the lives of kids just like you! During this event, we’ll put together kits for kids who are receiving treatments at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital. Let’s help make hospitals a less scary place. Paint for a Cure April 24 Our third annual Paint for a Cure event is sure to bring out the artist in you! Sacks for Soldiers November 13 Most of us know at least one person who is a member of the military. Please join us in supporting those who risk their lives for us every day by helping assemble care packages for the holiday season. We will include cards, hygiene supplies, food and entertainment. hemed Parent’s Night Out was a big hit in 2014. We’ve got even better themes planned for 2015! Parents- come workout at the fitness center, treat yourself to a massage or have dinner in the Dining Room while we entertain the kids. Ages 2 and up are welcome. Jan 2: No Parent’s Night Out due to Club closed for Dinner Feb 6: Bowling Extravaganza Check out our underground bowling alley filled with all different types and sizes of bowling games. Mar 6: Weird Science Learn weird facts about your favorite animals, answer weird science trivia questions and perform some weird science experiments. Apr 3: Goin’ Green Learn how you can do your part to help make the earth a better, cleaner place to live.
Jul 3: No Parent’s Night Out due to Fourth of July Aug 7: I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream! This summertime favorite returns- but with a twist! Sep 4: PAH Has Talent! Easter Brunch April 5 Spring has sprung at PAH which means it’s time for our annual Easter Day Brunch complete with an outstanding buffet, petting zoo and THREE egg hunts that the whole family can enjoy. Ultimate Family Pool Party May 3 Water sports, pool games, DJ, contests, races and everything you’d ever want at a pool party. Mother’s Day Brunch May 10 Treat Mom to a brunch she won’t soon forget. Today it’s all about her and what better way to celebrate Mom than at our Mother’s Day Brunch. Leave the cooking and cleaning to us! Memorial Day BBQ May 25 Summer is back! Help us kick-off the season with this great family event. Nothing says summer like a BBQ. Father’s Day BBQ June 21 It’s Dad’s and Grand Dad’s Day! We’re combining Smashing Pumpkins with our Halloween Carnival to give you a HUGE afternoon of fun! Holiday Brunch with Santa December 6 This is just the thing you need to get you and your family in the holiday spirit. Of course there will be a wonderful feast, but don’t worry, Santa and Jeremy the Elf will be the center of attention.
