2015 BOARD of GOVERNORS Bob Shema, Chair Bill Bailey, Lowelle Childers, Mike Collins, Jerry Gatti, Chuck Hosler, Deanna Howard, Pat McMahon, Sharon Pfaff, Cynthia Villalobos

Chair’s Chatter BOB SHEMA,

Board of Governors CHAIRMAN ringo@designblockzero.com

A

hhhh it’s Spring of 2015 and we are in the middle of some amazing improvements that are happening this year at the Club!

Our Fitness area renovations are well underway and we have created a special Board level subcommittee to help monitor the progress and make sure that our members are fully informed and updated on the progress. You all have been receiving weekly emails from Rob Cowan on the status and there is also a renovations tab on the website that you can access to see the latest information. We’ve even installed a camera overlooking the fitness floor to document the transition. Once the fitness renovations are completed, which should be in May, the staff will be introducing enhanced programming options for some new fitness classes. Meg Plotsky, our new Mind & Body Coordinator and Josh Biard, our new Active Motion Coordinator will work together to develop an innovative and dynamic group exercise experience for our members and Resort guests. Some of the new offerings will include personalized nutrition and preventative health programs, as well as integrated concepts such as acupuncture and a BOD POD®. So please don’t be afraid to reach out beyond your normal routine and add some of these innovative new options to your personalized health & wellness programs. I also want to encourage you all to participate in the Club Member Events that will be happening throughout the year. The New Year’s Eve Las Vegas themed party was a blast as many of you that attended would agree. Then the attendance at the recent Super Bowl Cocktail Party was spectacular and made the energy at the event that much more fun! Remember that Club members can invite (non-member) guests to attend these happenings so please by all means, bring your friends and lets “rock the party!” We now have a Club Facebook and Instagram page which is becoming a great place to get member information and see photos of all the activities that are going on at the Club. If you haven’t visited the page, please do so and get in the habit of engaging in the conversation and sharing some posts yourself. You can access it by using this link: www. facebook.com/FSSportsClub or simply going to the club’s website and scrolling to the bottom of the home page or by clicking on the Facebook link. Ohh and don’t forget to take the member survey! Your opinion counts which means your participation is very important so please log-in and take the survey as often as you can.

Tim’s Tip

M

Tim Cusick, Director of Golf Instruction tim.cusick@fourseasons.com

aking solid contact is the goal in every golf shot. One way to ensure solid contact is to maintain the flex of your right knee throughout the backswing. When the right knee straightens in the backswing your body raises up. Consequently, you have to go down the same amount in the downswing to make solid contact. Retaining the flex in the right knee allows for you to stay level throughout the swing and create a more consistently solid impact. Better quality shots and lower scores will be just around the corner.

It’s Tournament Time Again!

P

reparing our facility for the best players in the world is a lot of fun for the Golf Operations team. I am often asked what we do throughout tournament week to provide PGA Tournament conditions. The Golf Operations team takes great pride in maintaining near tournament conditions year round. Therefore for us, the primary challenge lies not in the overall quality but instead in delivering the type of consistency of conditions required by the Tour.

COURSE MAINTENANCE

In most cases, this means we simply increase the frequency of our standard programs. Since our daily greens maintenance program is already very thorough, we typically deviate very little for normal operations. Bunker preparation is the largest deviation. To achieve PGA Tour appropriate consistency in bunkers, over 140 man hours are spent each day of the tournament. To highlight the significance of this effort, in order to continue this approach throughout the year, we would have to add 20 addition employees per course for bunkers maintenance alone. Fortunately these types of efforts are limited to bunkers and is only one week out of the year.

AND LANDSCAPING scott.abernathy@fourseasons.com

These are just a few fun fact about the tournament. We hope you enjoy this year’s AT&T Byron Nelson Championship !

Sports Talk with Robin Scott

T

here are many things that make our club a very special place. Our members are overwhelmingly positive and supportive, and our staff is a very special team geared to providing the best in services and programs. And on certain occasions everything comes together in the form of an event that reminds how special

The Sports Club really is. On January 31, we hosted the Pro Tennis Challenge. When you have a multiple grand slam champion, Mark Knowles, current ATP Tour player, Mischa Zverev and former NCAA Division 1 Champion, Amer Delic all agreeing to participate without any hesitation, it tells you a great deal about how they feel about our Club. Add the talents of tennis professionals Brent Haygarth and Yevgen Bondarchuk and club members Vince Menard and Alex Pier and a formidable level of tennis entertainment is right here on our home courts. For the 2nd year in a row Amer

Robin scott,

DIRECTOR OF SPORTS robin.scott@fourseasons.com

Delic and Yevgen Bondarchuk ran out winners beating Brent Haygarth and yours truly 8-6 in the finals. I am so excited to be working with such qualified, skilled and passionate professionals whose vision perfectly aligns with the new direction for our club.
