1. Apply 2 layers of ProNails Nail Polish n° 328 Law Of The Jungle, and let dry completely. 2. Apply a small amount of ProNails Nail Polish n° 331 Golden Mist on the tip of the Nail Art Sponge. Take the Sponge and start immediately dabbing the Nail polish onto the nail, without letting it dry. Start at the free edge of the nail, and work towards the middle and the sides, fading the two colours into one another. 3. Repeat step 2 for a second layer. 4. Use the ProNails Slim Nail Art Brush n° 1 and draw a thin French smile line with ProNails Nail Polish n° 330 Mai Tai Me. Finish off this design with your favourite gloss.

1. Apply 1 thin layer of ProNails PNC n° 244 Mai Tai Me and cure for 2 minutes. (The Light – 30 sec. only) Apply another thin layer without curing. 2. Take some ProNails Gellak n° 97 Vivienne’s Way on your Deco Tool and let it drop into the gel in a straight line of dots. Do the same with ProNails Gellak n° 130 Law Of The Jungle. 3. Continue with the design like in step 2. Add some extra lines of dots with ProNails Gellak n° 124 Waiting For Tonight, until the nailplate is completely filled with dots. Cure under the UV lamp for 4 minutes (The Light – 60 sec. only) Remove the sticky layer with Non Acetone Polish Remover and apply your favourite gloss. 4. Take a tiny bit of ProNails Gellak n° 26 Black Saint and apply it with your Gelinsky Stampart Brush over the full design in vertical smudged lines. Cure your design again for 4 minutes. 1. Use the ProNails Nail Polish colours n° 332 Save The Rainforest, n° 330 Mai Tai Me and n° 331 Golden Mist to draw 3 large diagonal stripes on the nail. Let the nail polish dry thoroughly. 2. Apply a second layer of the same colours using the polish brush to create a ‘fading’ effect. Let the nail polish dry thoroughly. 3. Mix Propaint Night with a touch of Propaint Divine, and use this dark grey colour mixture to make a dragonfly wing pattern on top of the nail polish, using the Slim Nail Art Brush n° 2. 4. Add even more detailed lines in between the larger veins with your Slim Nail Art Brush n° 2. 5. Use the Striping Colour White to add light reflecting lines to the design. Add some white dots with your Deco Tool Deluxe. Let the nails dry and then add some final dots with ProNails Nail Polish n° 330 Mai Tai Me. Finish your design with ProNails Seco Seco or ProNails Gloss IT Up.

Tip: You can make many different colour variations using the colours of the ProNails Jungle Jewels collection!
1. Apply 2 layers of ProNails Permanent Nail Colour n° 244 Mai Tai Me following the standard application protocol. Cure each layer for 2 minutes (The Light – only 30 sec.) & remove the sticky layer. Slightly buff the full nail with the ProNails Soft Finisher to obtain a perfect surface for adhesion of your upcoming Propaint design. Use the ProNails Gelinsky Stampart Brush to make white smudged halve rounded shapes with some Propaint Divine. 2. Make similar smudged halve rounded shapes first with some Propaint Carotte, next with some Propaint Lemon on top. Here you also use the Gelinsky Stampart Brush. 3. Take your Slim Nail Art Brush n° 2 as well as your Deco Tool Deluxe to create the Scarabee Body marks using ProPaint Divine. 4. With Propaint California Bronze and your Slim Brush n° 2 follow and outline the body parts. 5. ProNails Nail Polish n° 332 Save The Rainforest is used to add detail colour. Apply some final dots with your Deco Tool Deluxe and ProPaint Divine. Finish off by applying your favourite gloss to protect your design.

1. Apply ProNails Gellak n° 71 Bianchissimo on all nails following the protocol. Cure each layer for 2 minutes. (The Light – 30 sec. only) Obtain a matt finish by slightly buffing the nails with the ProNails Soft Finisher file. 2. Take ProNails Nail Polish n° 275 Vivienne’s Way and design a large vertical wave over the full nail. With ProNails Nail Polish n° 334 Road To Infinity you fill up the left white upper part of the nail. The rightside underpart is filled up with ProNails Nail Polish n° 330 Mai Tai Me. 3. Apply large spots with ProNails Nail Polish n° 328 Law Of The Jungle and n° 332 Save The Rainforest as shown in the design. 4. Apply matt touch over the full nail. Take a ProNails Kolinsky Art Brush n° 2 and Propaint Night to draw a contouring line around the upper light blue spot, followed by fine additional diagonal lines. Add some faded white lines underneath the black lines with Propaint Divine to enhance the 3D effect. 5. On the orange part, draw some scales with Propaint Night as shown. Mix Propaint Lemon with Propaint Divine and lighten up the upper parts of each scale with this mixture. 6. Now start with the yellow-green part of the nail, draw some more scales in more pointy shapes with Propaint Night and again lighten up the tips by using Propaint Divine. 7. Add some black stains on the Save The Rainforest green part of the design with Propaint Night. Continue with creating a dotted black line as a division between

the yellow-green part and the orange part of the nail. 8. Add some final white light dots to your design using Propaint Divine. Apply one layer of Matt Touch to protect your design as well as to give the nail a matt finish. HOW YOU DO IT Shake your Sopolish Colour. Put the glass micropipet into the Sopolish Thinner bottle. Place your finger on top of the pipet and take it out of the bottle. Keep your finger in place and hold it above the Sopolish Colour. When you remove your finger the Sopolish Thinner inside the pipet will drop into the Sopolish colour. Shake again. Only repeat if necessary, but be cautious not to add too much since it cannot be undone. Only use the pipets for this product. Pipets are fragile, use with care.

1. Apply 3 stripes with ProNails Nail Polishes n° 334 Road To Infinity, n° 335 Sunset Serenity and n° 336 Instant Antidote. Use the brush of the nail polish bottle, and apply each colour in 2 layers to get a full covering colour result. 2. Apply 2 other stripes in ProNails Nail Polish n° 338 Early Adopter, this time only in 1 layer to keep the translucent effect. 3. Continue in the same way with ProNails Nail Polish n° 339 Nouvelle Vague. 4. Finish with some stripes in Nail Polish n° 337 The Silver Lining, also in only 1 layer. You can choose to stop your design here, or add some extra depth by continuing with step 5. 5. Take your ProNails Striping Colour White and draw fine white crossing lines that form triangular shapes. 1. Extend the nails to the required length and shape with ProNails Unicum UV Gel Clear, following the standard application method. Apply ProNails Unicum UV Gel Mask to the nail plate and keep the French area transparent. 2. Mix a little bit of Unicum UV Gel Clear with Propaint Rouge De Rose. Make a second mixture with Ultramarine. Apply the pink mixture on half of the french smile and the blue mixture on the other half as shown, and cure for 2 minutes (The Light – 30 sec. only). 3. People spontaneously look towards the right. Make sure your retail products are exposed on the right-hand side of your cash register or working table and are easy for your client to touch. Move your computer to the opposite side.
Always create a positive curve when presenting products to your client. Small products on the left, large products on the right. This automatically puts your client in positive state of mind.
Always present an uneven number of products when you make a suggestion to your client (e.g. 3). An even number appeals to clients intellect, an uneven number appeals to their emotion.

4. Eye-level
6. Try & Learn
Products are noticed more by your clients when they are at eye level. Remember that when they are sitting down their eye level is lower.
Move things about regularly (every 6 weeks). You may find that in a new location your customers may discover new retail products that have been there all along.

Do not put your displays in a corner where nobody can see them. Avoid putting products on display that cannot be seen or reached. Products in closed display cabinets will not sell no matter how good they are. Neither will products behind the counter do very well.

Let your customer sample a cream or care product during her treatment. Trigger the senses, with manicure candles, absorbant foot foams and soft creams.
“If you’re afraid to lose, you’ll never win…” Interview with Mario Van Looveren ProNails Premium Salon, Sint-Job, Belgium
ProNails: Mario, you have been a hairdresser for 20 years now. You have a beautiful AVEDA salon and yet you opened a ProNails Premium Salon. Some people would call that an ambitious business move. Mario: “Yes I suppose they would, but I strongly believe that if you’re afraid to lose, you will never win. You need to feel the waters and have the courage to take the plunge. To give you an example: I once started with solariums and that didn’t work out. My ProNails Premium Salon is catching on well, I have a great team and my customers like the concept.
We started with selling Nail Polish in the salon, then we started applying Sopolish, and soon after we opened our ProNails Premium salon. We had to build up a customer base from scratch and slowly but surely we did. Starting with just one customer a day, then 3 each day and we’re always moving further in the right direction. We have made a lot of nail biters very happy by now who can be very proud of their hands. Never underestimate what retail income can do for you while your are still building your clientele. Of course I already have a loyal customer base in my AVEDA hairdresser salon. But still nothing happens by itself. You reap what you sow!” ProNails: I can see a lot of Aveda and ProNails retail products here in your salon. In fact, I feel like I have entered a professional shop. Can you give us an insight on how you approach retail sales in your salon? Mario: “Sure, I create a shop-in-shop in my salon. For my clients it’s customary to shop here for their hair, body and now nail care needs. Of course you first need to make sure you choose a good

brand to be able to do this. A brand with a strong and exclusive image that you can’t just buy anywhere. A unique brand that people have heard of and are willing to look for. And then you need to show the products in your salon in a way that your clients can perceive them. This is the tricky part and it takes some experience and playing about ‘till you get it right. Believe me, I’m still experimenting and learning every day. People need to be able to spontaneously grab hold of a product that triggers their curiosity. You need to arouse their senses. They need to be able to see, feel and smell the products. In a lot of places you see retail products behind the counter. That’s a mistake. Clients can’t touch and feel the products. That’s very important. The ProNails nail polish displays are perfect eye-catchers. I scatter and move them around continuously, also in my hairdresser salon. My clients spend at least one hour in the salon and with a colourful collection in front of them they are very likely to reach out and pick their favorite one.” ProNails: That’s very interesting to hear. What do you do, on the other

10. 360° Consistency
Everybody loves something new. Make sure it stays looking new in your salon. Make sure your retail products and displays do not collect dust and clean them regularly.
Try to have a consistent image in your salon. This goes for both your services as for the products you have on retail. Use the same message and image in your salon, on your social media, your shop window, products, posters, leaflets or displays. Our brain needs repetition in order to register information. The more repetition your client gets, the more she will accept.

If a product or colour in a display is not selling as well as it should, try taking some products out. A display with open spots sells better than a full display. It will draw the attention of you client.
hand, when you invest in something and it doesn’t work? Mario: “That’s frustrating of course but then I try a different approach. Try and try again. I present things differently, move them to another location, take some products out of displays that are slower in sales. In fact, a full display is never good. For example, I have a big AVEDA make-up stand that stood in the back of the salon next to the washing tables for a long time. Everyone needed to pass by it but nobody saw it. Now I’ve moved it to the front of the salon, more towards the shop-in-shop area. I reduced the passage way slightly and BINGO, it’s getting much more attention from my clients. The advantage of my salon I have to say, is that I can move around all the furniture very easily. My salon is 11 years old now and I’ve been doing this from the start. You have to experiment at the beginning, but eventually you find what works. Observe your customers, you will learn a lot.” ProNails: Any tips for start-ups? Mario: “At the beginning you need to be careful not to want to do too much. I made that same mistake when I started up myself. I wanted to have too many customers and I wasn’t able to serve them well enough. You’re better off starting with less customers that you can offer a very good service: they will
keep coming back. This may take a little longer but you will build a solid and durable clientele. Never lose your personal touch with your customers. I send all my clients a birthday card every year. Don’t forget that word-of-mouth is the best and the cheapest publicity you can have for your salon.”
ProNails : How important is education to you and to your people? Mario: “Very important! Education is a big part of motivation. People who never take the time to learn something new get a burn-out after a while. A training course is a source of inspiration.

Mario: “It’s difficult, a lot has changed in advertising. I’ve been working now for 20 years. In those days people would react to an ad you placed in a printed magazine. But today the media landscape has moved to more intangible media like Facebook, Twitter or SMS and you need to evolve with it. We have a Facebook page for our ProNails Premium Salon. Caroline manages this page, she’s young and dynamic and knows exactly what triggers her fellow age-group. She’s currently working out a Facebook contest where participants will have to answer questions to which they can find the answer on our website. This way they get to know our products while enjoying a bit of fair competition with their peers.”
I notice this very clearly when my people come back form a course because they are often more passionate. If you are passionate, your clients are passionate about you too.” ProNails : Thank you Mario for sharing your thoughts with us. One last question : What is your key to success? Mario: “In one word : Perseverance! Don’t give up, no matter how hard it is sometimes. And if things are a little tight now, don’t be afraid to take a step back. Drive a smaller car. Don’t worry what people will think, just be honest, your customers will appreciate you for this.”
