3) Tired furniture. What comes to mind when someone says the words “Grandma’s house?” Dated furnishings dampen buyers’ enthusiasm when they see photos and walk into outdated listings. Sellers with limited budgets aren’t out of luck, though, when a home stager is available to refresh rooms by supplementing sellers’ furnishings with modern decor, lighting, area rugs and art, and more.

Sellers with limited budgets aren’t out of luck, though, when a home stager is available to refresh rooms by supplementing sellers’ furnishings with modern decor, lighting, area rugs and art, and more.
4) Too much stuff. Most of what I recommend to sellers during home staging consultations is what to pack away, not what to add. All small items should go, as should anything not needed specifically to sit on or sleep in. For example, a living room often doesn’t need magazine racks and ottomans, and a bedroom often doesn’t need a bookcase or student desk. Buyers want square footage, so what’s not essential should come out.

6) Personal-care/hygiene items. Shampoos, toothbrushes, waste cans, toilet scrubbers, bath mats, prescription drugs, and makeup are all “ick factors” for buyers. Tell sellers to examine their bathrooms and bedrooms, in particular, to make sure the rooms are free from anything that tells buyers who the house’s residents are and how they take care of themselves.

7) Pet and food smells. No amount of air freshener is going to mask certain odors, and often, those flowery fragrances add insult to injury. From the time you sign a listing, sellers should stop cooking with strong spices. Litter boxes should be cleaned twice a day, and carpets, draperies and upholstered furniture–all of which absorb odors–should be professionally cleaned.

Answering the Need
While leadership is exhibited in a number of ways, one of the traits that leaders tend to have in common is the willingness to provide support wherever it’s needed.
That’s a quality that Zachary Matz shares with those around him.
As a REALTOR® with Keller
“That gave me experience in project management, marketing, design, and finance, as well as running my own business,” he remembers.

In time, Zachary moved back to Philadelphia. He became a Paramedic in 2017 and joined the Philadelphia Fire Department in 2019. Today, he works for the city’s Fire Department as a Medic.
Williams Philadelphia on the Venture Philly Group, Zachary answers the need wherever it arises.
“I love helping people. In Philadelphia, I go into every area of the city as a Paramedic and I see the struggles that people go through. As part of that, Section 8 tenants fell into my lap initially with financial struggles. I want to help people through that.” Zachary explains. Since then, Zachary’s real estate involvement has grown to include buyers, sellers, and investors alike.
In time, Zachary moved back to Philadelphia. He became a Paramedic in 2017 and joined the Philadelphia Fire Department in 2019. Today, he works for the city’s Fire Department as a Medic.
“When I first got my job with Philly Fire, they require you to live in the city, so I knew I wanted to buy a property, and I did so in Fairmount,” Zachary remembers.

“I like facing challenges and finding their solutions. With that energy and focus, the challenge became how can I become a homeowner and minimize my costs. So I house-hacked a place in Fairmont then moved with my now fiancé to Roxborough and purchased a duplex. I have the rental in Fairmont and the duplex in Roxborough, so began the investment side of my real estate journey.”
“Whoever calls my phone, I’m going to answer and do what I can to figure out their situation. That’s what I like about both medicine and real estate … they keep me on my toes and allow me to make a di erence.”

Through time, Zachary brought his love of real estate together with his work with the Fire Department.
Zachary was born and raised in Montgomery County, just outside of Philadelphia. As he came of age, he attended the University of Maryland, where he pursued a Sports Medicine degree with initial plans of becoming a Physical Therapist.
Through time, Zachary brought his love of real estate together with his work with the Fire Department.
“As I was talking with peers on the Philly Fire Department, I saw they were looking for ways to put their money to work, and I would naturally bring up real estate,” he says.

While he was in school in College Park, Zachary joined the Branchville Volunteer Fire Department there and worked there for five years. He also unleashed his entrepreneurial spirit in college— co-founding a mobile app company.
“I figured why not help them on a professional level? I like helping them focus that energy, gather those assets and grow the way they want to. That’s what inspired me to get my real estate license in April 2022.”

Zachary’s first ‘client’ from his time with the fire department was his cat Albert whom he adopted after finding Albert outside of Albert Einstein Medical Center while on duty and gave him a home. “There’s always the argument of who rescued who, but honestly helping to improve any living conditions is such a rewarding experience for me.”

At one time, more than 50 covered bridges could be found scattered throughout the county, however only 12 remain. Each of these bridges have their own story to tell, and are a must see for locals and travelers alike. Visit Bucks County has put together a Covered Bridge Driving Tour that lays out turn by turn directions to make embarking on this self guided journey a breeze! Let’s take a deeper look at each of these gems and find out about their history and what makes them unique.

Over the years Je met many wonderful people at Staples, but his favorite person was a coworker named Julia. She genuinely cared about her teammates and the customers they served, and she worked hard to provide for herself and her five-year-old son. She was pursuing her dream to become a nurse and that inspired Je to consider going back to school to earn a degree as well.

Having his hard-earned degree actually separated him from other candidates and helped him earn a job at The Princeton University Store the summer of 2013. That fall he started coaching his oldest son’s baseball team. He was a great leader, and did well as the Store’s Director, but the job didn’t feel fulfilling or rewarding. Je was filled with creative ideas for helping team members grow professionally, but there was no outlet for him to utilize his vision.
