Pakistan continues to enjoy growing bilateral trade relations with Italy

The trade relationship between Pakistan and Italy is not just thriving but is also pivotal to the growth and modernization of Pakistan’s textile industry. Italy, as one of the world’s leading economies and a top exporter of advanced textile machinery, plays a crucial role in supporting the technological advancement and competitiveness of Pakistan’s textile sector.

This longstanding relationship is reinforced by the deep ties between Pakistani textile manufacturers and Italian companies, many of which have contributed significantly to the modernization of Pakistan’s textile industry, particularly during its formative years. Notable Italian companies such as Marzoli, Savio, Ferraro, Brazzoli, Arioli, Loptex, Fadis, Bianco, and Itema have been instrumental in equipping Pakistan’s industry with the necessary machinery and expertise.

During the fiscal year 2022-23, Pakistan recorded a remarkable trade surplus with Italy, growing by 97.11% to $624.518 million. Pakistan’s exports to Italy rose to $1.151 billion, showcasing a steady growth of 5.88% despite the global economic downturn that saw overall exports from Pakistan decline.

Italy’s economy, the third largest in the Eurozone and the eighth largest globally by nominal GDP, remains a powerhouse in the textile machinery industry. In 2023, Italy’s exports of textile machinery, although slightly decreased by 14% compared to the previous year, still dominated global markets with a significant share in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The technological sophistication and sustainable innovations embedded in Italian textile machinery provide Pakistani manufacturers with the tools necessary to meet international standards and optimize production processes.

The partnership between Pakistan and Italy is mutually beneficial, with Italy’s high-quality, custom-made machinery supporting Pakistan’s efforts to modernize its textile production and compete globally. As Italy continues to focus on digitisation and sustainable technologies, Pakistan stands to benefit tremendously from these advancements, ensuring that our textile industry remains resilient and competitive in a rapidly changing global market.

Looking ahead, the trade relationship between Pakistan and Italy is poised to drive even greater collaboration. As both nations continue to innovate and adapt to global trends, the future of Pakistan’s textile industry looks promising, with Italy as a key partner in its success. The combination of Italy’s advanced machinery and Pakistan’s growing production capabilities creates a powerful synergy that will shape the future of textile trade between the two countries.

Textiles remained the cornerstone of Pakistan's export economy and Pakistan's Export Performance in FY 2023-24

Pakistan's export sector showcased a positive performance during the first ten months of the current financial year (2023-24), with total exports amounting to $25.280 billion, reflecting a notable increase of 9.10 percent compared to the $23.171 billion recorded during the same period last year. This growth has been bolstered by significant contributions from various sectors and strategic export markets.

The United States emerged as the leading export market for Pakistani goods, with exports totaling $4.3 billion. This was followed by China, which imported $2.2 billion worth of goods from Pakistan. The United Kingdom ranked third, with imports valued at $1.6 billion during the July-April period.

Other significant export markets included the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain, each surpassing the $1 billion mark in imports from Pakistan. Additionally, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Belgium each imported over $500 million in Pakistani goods, underscoring the diversified nature of Pakistan’s export destinations.

Textiles remained the cornerstone of Pakistan's export economy, with earnings of $13.68 billion, making it the top export commodity. The agricultural and food products sector also showed strong performance, with exports totaling $6.5 billion. Other manufacturing products contributed nearly $2 billion to the export tally, reflecting the country's diverse industrial base.

Regionally, Asia was the largest market for Pakistani exports, with over $9 billion worth of goods exported in the first ten months of the fiscal year. The European market followed closely, importing $8.5 billion in Pakistani goods. The American market accounted for over $5 billion, while the African market imported around $2 billion worth of goods. The Oceania market, though smaller, imported $272 million in Pakistani goods, indicating Pakistan’s global reach.

In April 2024, Pakistan's exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 10.02 percent, recovering from a slowdown in the previous month. Export proceeds reached $2.35 billion in April, up from $2.14 billion in the corresponding month last year. Despite this yearly growth, there was a 9 percent month-on-month decline in exports.

Since December, export growth had consistently shown double-digit increases before slowing down in March, indicating a fluctuating yet generally positive trend.

This variability underscores the dynamic nature of global trade and the need for strategic adjustments to sustain growth.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Pakistan's exports are expected to continue their upward trajectory. The IMF projects that exports will increase from $30.84 billion in FY24 to $32.35 billion in FY25, and further to $34.68 billion in FY26, $37.25 billion in FY27, and $39.46 billion in FY28. These projections reflect confidence in Pakistan's ability to expand its export base and penetrate new markets.

strategies were also key components of the training.

Dr. Gohar Ejaz emphasized that this training program underscores APTMA’s emergence as a global leader in the textile business. He noted that such initiatives not only enhance technical expertise but also foster stronger relations with brotherly countries, thereby creating a more business-friendly and positive image of Pakistan.

sector stability, and the overall economic and political stability of the country. Following a peak of $19.3 billion in textile exports in FY22, figures plummeted to approximately $16.5 billion in FY23, with monthly exports in FY24 consistently falling over $600 million below the installed capacity.

APTMA (North) Chairman Kamran Arshad explained that the training program was designed to improve the expertise and operational scope of Uzbek textile professionals. By covering critical aspects of the textile industry, the training emphasized the importance of staying competitive and relevant amidst rapid technological advancements and evolving trade regulations.

The training provided participants with essential knowledge and skills to navigate the challenges of the modern textile industry. With a focus on understanding the latest processes, products, and trade advantages, the program aimed to equip professionals with the tools necessary for business success in today’s dynamic market. Effective promotion and marketing

The event was attended by several senior executive members of APTMA, including S. M. Tanveer, Syed Ali Ahsan, Ahsan Bashir, Asad Shafi, Ahmed Shafi, Mian Ahsan, Shahid Sattar, and Mohammad Raza Baqir. Their presence underscored the association's commitment to international cooperation and industry advancement.

Aptma Raises Alarm Over Regressive Budget 2024-25 Impact on Textile Sector

The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) has expressed grave concerns over the proposed Budget 2024-25, labeling it as highly regressive and detrimental to the textile sector and exports.

Aptma warns that the budget's provisions could have severe repercussions on employment, external

This significant decline alarms the urgent need for governmental intervention to support the sector. However, the budget has not introduced any measures to resolve the industrywide energy crisis. Grid power tariffs have surged to 16.4 cents/kWh, with an expected increase of another 2 cents/kWh following tariff rebasing in July, doubling the regional average. The cross-subsidy from industrial to other consumers is also set to rise from Rs240 billion to Rs380 billion, exacerbating financial strain on textile manufacturers and further eroding their competitiveness.

Aptma criticizes the budget's extremely regressive tax policies. The tax rate on exports has jumped from a 1% final tax regime to an overwhelming 29% on profits, alongside a 2% advance tax on export proceeds. This excessive taxation eliminates incentives for exportoriented activities and drains liquidity from the sector, as the 2% advance tax will absorb all liquidity from low-margin, high-volume industries like textiles.

The elimination of zero-rating for local supplies to export-oriented units will lead to a surge in intermediate input imports since exporters can use importfor-export schemes to import duty-free and sales tax-free inputs. This 18% sales

tax plus turnover tax will further disadvantage local manufacturers already struggling with high energy costs. Local manufacturers of intermediate products like yarn and cloth have already lost competitiveness due to prohibitive energy prices, evidenced by a 600% increase in yarn imports between July 2023 and May 2024.

These measures will further erode their competitiveness, causing a significant reduction in domestic value addition in exports and deterioration of the trade balance. Persistent delays in the issuance of sales tax and other refunds have created a severe liquidity crisis within the industry. Despite regulations mandating automatic refunds within 72 hours, delays extend to several months, with many claims deferred indefinitely. Rising energy costs, high interest rates, and a dysfunctional sales tax refund mechanism have pushed many firms to the brink of bankruptcy.

The FY25 budget places additional strain on the industry’s liquidity without any measures to release the liquidity stuck in sales tax and other refunds for many months and years. The proposed budget contradicts the principles of efficient capital and investment allocation, as Pakistan’s corporate tax rates remain the highest in the region, dissuading investment in productive sectors and activities.

The failure to rationalize import duties on critical raw materials like Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) and Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) continues to benefit a single obsolete 30-year-old manufacturing facility at the cost of the entire sector’s export growth and diversification, maintaining an anti-export bias and hampering the competitiveness of the textile sector. With 60% of the basic industry already shut down and the remaining on the verge of closure, this budget will hasten the collapse of the textile sector and devastate the entire economy.

The textile sector, responsible for over 50% of export earnings and employing over 40% of the industrial labor force, is critical to Pakistan’s economic stability. The widespread closure of firms will significantly reduce export earnings, leading to an inability to meet import bills and external financing obligations,

increasing the risk of balance of payments crises and sovereign default. It will cause over 4 million workers in the textile sector to become unemployed, in addition to the millions who have already lost their jobs and livelihoods.

Reduced industrial activity will lower industrial power consumption, causing an increase in unutilized capacity payments and further raising power tariffs for all consumers. There would be severe deterioration in both foreign and domestic investment prospects, further destabilizing the external sector and overall economic growth for years to come. The Association urges the government to reconsider the FY25 budget and implement measures that address prohibitive energy costs, rationalize taxation, and provide a conducive business environment to avert an imminent collapse of the textile sector.

Swedish Embassy and Business Sweden to Launch Sustainable Textiles Platform for Pakistan's Textile Sector

In effort to boost Pakistan's textile industry, the Swedish Embassy and Business Sweden, along with key industry players, are set to launch the Sustainable Textiles Platform. This initiative aims to integrate Swedish technology and innovation to support Pakistan’s textile sector in adopting sustainable practices.

Pakistan's textile, garments, and apparel manufacturing sector is a cornerstone of its economy, contributing nearly 10% to the nation's GDP. However, the industry faces growing pressure to embrace eco-friendly practices to meet global market demands.

As the industry strives to innovate and stay competitive, there is a critical need for standardizing sustainability practices across the sector.

The Pakistani textile industry has been making progress towards environmental sustainability by focusing on renewable energy, advanced water management, and recycling. Despite these efforts, the lack of a unified standard for sustainability remains a significant challenge. This is where Swedish technology and innovation are poised to make a substantial impact.

By leveraging Swedish advancements, Pakistani manufacturers can enhance efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and secure long-term economic benefits. The Sustainable Textiles Platform will explore how Swedish technology can drive sustainability and productivity in Pakistan’s textile sector, with a particular emphasis on circular economy principles, water treatment, and renewable energy.

The initiative will feature panel discussions highlighting the involvement of major Swedish textile buyers like IKEA and H&M, as well as technology providers such as Atlas Copco. These discussions will focus on key areas including circularity, water treatment, and the adoption of renewable energy.

The Sustainable Textile Platform event aims to bring together sourcing companies, producers, public sector decision-makers, and academia to drive positive change in the textile sector. By utilizing Swedish technology and innovation, the Pakistani textile industry can improve sustainability, productivity, and product quality, enhancing its global competitiveness.

BANGLADESH

BTMA Warns of Impending Collapse in Bangladesh’s Textile Industry, Urges Government Intervention

The Bangladesh Textile Mill Association (BTMA) has issued a stark warning about the dire state of Bangladesh’s core textile industry, calling on the government to act urgently to prevent a potential collapse. As a crucial supplier to the country's readymade garment (RMG) sector, the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy, the textile industry is grappling with a series of challenges that threaten its viability.

At a press conference in Dhaka, BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon highlighted several pressing issues affecting the industry, including gas supply problems, reduced export incentives, high interest rates, and concerns related to the Export Development Fund (EDF). The recent cut in export cash incentives is particularly concerning, threatening the US $22 billion invested in local textile manufacturing.

Khokon stressed that the reduction in incentives undermines Bangladesh's competitiveness on the global stage, especially against India, which continues to offer various incentives despite graduating from least-developed country (LDC) status in 2004.

He pointed out that numerous mills have already closed, with more potentially shutting down by next

December if the current conditions persist. “The gas crisis is a critical barrier for textile mills. Factories are struggling with inadequate gas pressure, which severely impacts their production capacity,” Khokon said.

The interlinked issues facing the textile sector—gas shortages, decreased EDF support, and rising loan rates—have significantly increased production costs. This has diminished Bangladesh’s competitive edge compared to regional competitors like India, which benefits from a devalued currency. The combined effect of these challenges has led to a reduction in manufacturing capacity, with many mills nearing permanent closure.

The BTMA warns that without immediate government intervention, this trend is likely to continue, further jeopardizing the future of Bangladesh’s vital textile industry.

CANADA

Canada Launches Consultation to Address Plastic Waste and Pollution from Textiles

Steven Guilbeault, Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced a new consultation aimed at developing a roadmap to combat plastic waste and pollution originating from the textile and apparel sector. This initiative is part of Canada's broader strategy to reduce plastic waste and enhance the circularity of the textile industry, ensuring that materials stay within the economy and out of the environment.

Textiles represent the fifth-largest category of plastic waste sent to Canadian landfills. Furthermore, synthetic clothing releases plastic microfibres during wear and washing, contributing to microplastic pollution. The consultation document proposes a waste-management strategy focused on keeping textiles and apparel in the circular economy through redesign, reduction, reuse, repair, and recycling, rather than relying on energy recovery and landfilling.

Canadians and other interested parties are invited to submit their feedback on the consultation document until September 1, 2024. This input will help shape a draft roadmap, which is expected to be published later this year.

Currently, textile collection and recycling in Canada are minimal, with

about 98 percent of plastic textile waste ending up in landfills. Each year, approximately 878 tonnes of microfibres from synthetic textiles are released into fresh and marine waters in Canada and the US. In 2020, around 290 kilotons of synthetic textile products, including polyester, nylon, PVC, and acrylic, were purchased in Canada, with roughly 280 kilotons discarded as waste, according to Statistics Canada.

Since 2018, the Canadian government has worked with organizations and stakeholders to advance research on microfibre pollution, assess waste reduction opportunities, and pilot recycling programs within the textile and apparel sector. The Federal Plastics Registry will gather data on plastic textiles, including quantities marketed and their end-of-life management. Collaborating with the sector to develop and implement effective solutions is crucial to Canada's ambitious plan for a circular economy for plastics.

"After hosting the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee in Ottawa last April, we are more determined than ever to tackle plastic waste and pollution within Canada. We are now focused on preventing textile and apparel waste from ending up in landfills, being incinerated, or leaking into the environment. Addressing plastic waste across all sectors of our economy is essential to protecting the planet and building a greener, more sustainable future," said Steven Guilbeault.

EUROPEAN UNION

New programme to upskill EU textile industry

EURATEX, in collaboration with COTANCE and CEC, recently hosted the TCLF SkillBridge Stakeholder Event, a significant milestone in fostering regional skills partnerships across Europe. This initiative, co-financed by the European Commission, aims to build and strengthen regional collaborations between the textile, clothing, leather, and footwear (TCLF) industries, local authorities, and educational institutions.

INDIA

Textile Industry Shows Signs of Recovery as Domestic Demand Strengthens

Recent data from the Niryat Portal reveals a modest recovery in the textile industry, with exports of readymade garments, cotton yarn, and fabrics totaling $17.9 billion between October 2023 and May 2024. This figure surpasses the $17.5 billion recorded for the same period last year, marking a welcome shift from the previous decline. Notably, cotton yarn exports surged by 51% in volume terms, driven by lower

domestic cotton prices and a slight uptick in demand from US and European markets.

Despite these positive indicators, industry experts warn that this recovery may not be sustainable without supportive policies. An observer noted, “The current demand still lags behind pre-COVID levels. Moreover, recent increases in cotton prices have mitigated the advantages previously enjoyed by textile manufacturers.”

Bharat Boghra, Chairman of the Spinners Association (Gujarat), commented on the situation, stating, “India’s cotton production this year is superior to that of the US and Brazil. Combined with lower domestic cotton prices compared to international rates, this has stimulated strong demand for Indian cotton.” However, he also expressed caution: “Persistent geopolitical crises are influencing consumer behavior, leading to a shortterm increase in international demand. Yet, European and US importers are not maintaining significant inventories, resulting in a reduced order book cycle— from six months to three months.”

Ramakrishnan M, Managing Director of Primus Partners, highlighted ongoing challenges, saying, “The textile industry is showing some recovery signs with steady domestic demand, particularly due to the expansion of e-commerce in tier 2 and tier 3 regions. However, global unrest, increased production costs—primarily due to a 40-50% rise in freight charges—and inflationary pressures are likely to keep global demand flat or slightly decrease.”

Bhavin Parikh, MD & CEO of Globe Textiles India, noted that the "China+1" policy and changes in consumer behavior are aiding the industry’s revival. Yet, he pointed out that the industry’s short order book cycle reflects broader uncertainties about global economic growth.

In response to these challenges, newly appointed Textile Minister Giriraj Singh recently announced potential policy measures, including the inclusion of garments in the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the revival of the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP). The minister has also set an ambitious target of $50 billion in textile shipments for the current year.

INDONESIA

Indonesia Moves to Shield Textile Industry from Chinese Imports

Indonesia is taking decisive steps to protect its local textile industry from a surge of inexpensive imports from China. Local textile associations have urged the government to intervene as these imports are significantly harming their businesses.

Budi Santoso, the Trade Ministry's director-general of foreign trade, announced that the trade safeguards committee is currently investigating the issue. The government's response will be determined once the committee's report is finalized.

Although the exact measures are still under consideration, there are indications that safeguard duties on some fabric products might be reinstated. These duties had expired in November 2022, but a recent statement from the head of fiscal policy at the finance ministry suggests they could be reintroduced.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan added that Indonesia could impose tariffs of up to 200% on imports to protect local industries from the influx of cheap goods, particularly from countries like China.

This initiative aims to support Indonesia's textile industry, ensuring local businesses can compete more fairly against low-cost imports and maintain their economic stability.

VIETNAM

Vietnam's Textile and Apparel Industry Sees Renewed Foreign Investment Surge

Vietnam's textile and apparel sector is witnessing a remarkable surge in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), signaling a promising growth trajectory for the industry. In recent years, Vietnam has solidified its position as a major player in the global textile and apparel market, leveraging its unique strengths, including a skilled workforce, conducive business environment, and efficient supply chain infrastructure.

The resurgence of FDI underscores growing investor confidence in Vietnam’s economic stability and potential for sustained growth. In response to changing consumer preferences and sustainability imperatives, Vietnamese textile and apparel manufacturers are embracing technological innovations and ecofriendly practices. This commitment to innovation and sustainability enhances Vietnam’s reputation as a reliable and environmentally responsible sourcing destination for global brands and retailers.

UZBEKISTAN

Uzbekistan's Textile Exports Reach $1.29 Billion in Early 2024

In the period from January to May 2024, Uzbekistan's textile exports totaled $1.29 billion, representing 11.8% of the country's total export volume. This marks a 0.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The rise in textile exports is largely attributed to ongoing reforms aimed at shifting from raw cotton

production to more value-added finished goods, as reported by the Statistics Agency.

A closer look at the export structure reveals that yarn continues to dominate, making up 46.8% of the total textile exports. Finished textile products follow with a 37.6% share. Specifically, yarn exports reached $602 million, an increase from $529 million in the previous year. In contrast, exports of finished textile products totaled $483 million, down from $517 million. Other categories, such as knitted products and fabrics, also experienced declines, with knitted products exporting $119 million (down from $136 million) and fabrics totaling

$64 million (down from $74 million). Socks and canvas products saw a drop to $18 million from $23 million.

The growth in textile exports is attributed to the adoption of new production technologies, the modernization of equipment, and the implementation of quality management systems. Notably, textile exports surpassed $1 billion in the first four months of 2024, reflecting a 1.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The period from January to May 2024 saw a significant 29% rise in textile exports compared to the January-April 2024 figures.

Loepfe’s YarnMaster ZENIT+ and PRISMA has been pivotal in Gadoon's operational triumph

Pakistani cotton poses a processing challenge for many spinning mills. One of the reasons for this is an increased occurrence of foreign fibers, especially polypropylene (PP) defects. This reduces either the quality of the yarn produced by the processing spinning mill or the machine efficiency. Both have a negative impact on the spinning mill's profit.

Gadoon Textile Mills, a pioneer in Pakistan's textile industry, has harnessed cutting-edge technology to produce superior quality yarns using the nation's own cotton resources. Despite the growing presence of foreign fibers and PP defects in Pakistani cotton, Gadoon consistently delivers the required yarn quality without compromising their machinery's performance. With cotton prices on the rise, the company has leveraged the relatively lower cost of Pakistani cotton to its advantage, boosting profit margins by optimizing local resources. The adoption of Loepfe's advanced quality control sensors, namely the YarnMaster ZENIT+ and PRISMA with specialized PP-sensor, has been pivotal in Gadoon's operational triumph.

This sensor exhibits exceptional accuracy in detecting PP defects by mastering the triboelectric effect, ensuring only the most precise and necessary removal of contaminants. Even with an increased cutting rate implemented to preserve the desired yarn quality, the Loepfe sensors compensate effectively with an innovative organic matter filtering system. This strategic

approach guarantees top-notch yarn output while maintaining consistent efficiency on their winding machines.

Continuous software updates ensure competitiveness

Regular software updates further contribute to continuous improvements, including reduced yarn waste and overall production efficiency. The unique features of Loepfe's technology, such as RGB technology, clever organic filtering, color mapping, automatic removal of offstandard bobbins, and smart threshold-based alarm functions, have played a crucial role in Gadoon's success.

The implementation has not only addressed existing challenges but also positioned Gadoon Textile Mills as a leader in the textile industry, delivering high-quality yarn and meeting the evolving needs of its customers.

Gadoon Textile Mills, part of the YB Group, is a leading yarn manufacturer and exporter in Pakistan and is relying on Loepfe’s yarn monitoring system YarnMaster PRISMA. The company operates as an integrated spinner, managing both spinning facilities and setups for knitted and woven fabrics, including dyeing and fashioned knitwear. Catering to the B2B market for fashion knitwear and home textile manufacturers, Gadoon produces a wide range of yarns, from Ne 10 to Ne 60, with the primary counts falling between Ne 20 to Ne 40. Utilizing ring compact and open-end technologies for yarn manufacturing, the company employs both natural fibers like cotton and manmade fibers such as polyester and viscose.

The diverse textile flavours of South Asia

The textile industry has been critical to the economies of the major South Asian countries – Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka – directly or indirectly employing some 75 million people.

While the four countries all have highly vertical operations and are generally in active competition with each other, it is noticeable that each nation has developed its own unique areas of specialism.

Rising in RMGs

In terms of growth, the textile and apparel sector of Bangladesh has risen from just a handful of manufacturers to over 6,000 factories in just three decades and is now the world’s second largest exporter of readymade garments (RMGs) behind only China.

Many of the world’s leading fashion brands have chosen to establish operations in Bangladesh, including Gap, H&M, Levi’s, Puma and Zara, drawn to the country’s efficiencies and highly integrated network of rapidly responding suppliers. The government has further initiated plans to achieve exports of RMGs worth US$50 billion by 2025 and approaching US$100 billion by 2030.

To realise this, the reinforcement of a textile manufacturing backbone will become increasingly crucial, and investment in the advanced technologies to be showcased at ITMA ASIA + CITME, Singapore next year will be vital to ensuring the Bangladesh industry continues to grow sustainably.

Nonwovens boom

India’s long-established textile and apparel industry is already estimated to have an annual value of around US$165 billion and to be on course to reach US$350 billion by 2030, according to a FICCIWazir Advisors report, driven by a strong focus in areas such as technical textiles, home furnishings and specialised fabrics.

The growth of India’s nonwovens industry, for example, has been nothing short of astonishing.

The production of nonwovens and the consumption of products made from them – especially absorbent hygiene products (AHPs) and disposable wipes –has always grown alongside populations and the rising prosperity of a country; right now, it looks like it is India’s turn.

Nonwovens production in India has already grown by over 50% in the past five years, according to BCH, the New Delhi-based consultancy, from 410,000 tons in 2017 to 874,000 tons in 2022. Most notably this new capacity is going to the AHPs market, for which nonwovens production has rocketed from 16,600 tons to 84,395 tons over the same period.

Distinguished by denim

Pakistan meanwhile has a notable number of highly integrated specialists in the production of denim fabrics, mainly located in the regions around its major cities of Karachi and Lahore. These companies are huge employers, with an operation such as Soorty, for example, employing some 22,000 people across its textile and garment operations.

All of Pakistan’s major denim manufacturers work closely with the leading European, US and Japanese designers and fibre manufacturers and are equipped with the latest technology and the flexibility to ensure that once a new trend emerges, they can jump on it extremely rapidly.

The branding and marketing of Pakistan’s denim leaders is extremely

sophisticated and sustainable credentials are almost uniform, taking in the use of Better Cotton Initiative cotton and recycled PET, extreme efficiency in water, chemicals and energy usage, garment finishing with laser and ozone and much more.

Responsible apparel

Sustainable manufacturing has been embraced by Sri Lanka’s textile and apparel industry in order to stay ahead of the competition, with initiatives ranging from LEED building certifications and netzero carbon emitting factories to the recycling of ocean plastic waste into clothing.

A flagship project currently underway is the Eravur Fabric Park. The 300-acre fabric park has a focus on sustainable textile manufacturing and is on course to attract approximately US$300 million in new investment. Purpose-built with the most advanced technology to promote efficiency in energy and water consumption, it has additional infrastructure for recycling and recovering water used in production.

“Sri Lanka has always remained ahead of the curve in identifying the needs of the industry and where it is headed,” says Jeevith Senaratne, treasurer of the Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA). “In recent years there has been increased demand for greater responsibility from apparel manufacturers and our industry is continually innovating to be ahead of the game as a sustainable manufacturing destination.”

Fairs and Exhibitions

Texworld Apparel Sourcing Paris

« IMPERFaiCTION », the trend book for the Autumn-Winter 2025-2026 season explores the limits of Man in confronting the potential of AI, and proposes a poetic reading of our imperfections... When our own biological reality becomes a "zone to defend". To be discovered from July 1 to 3, 2024 at the Parc des Expositions, Porte de Versailles.

"Our desires are too great for us. We are limited and imperfect." Based on this injunction, Louis Gérin and Grégory Lamaud, artistic directors of Texworld Apparel Sourcing Paris, deliver their vision of a future where the power of technology - especially AI - highlights our own weaknesses, to the point of threatening us with total obliteration.

A universe of trends / Four creative themes

Based on the cross-referencing and analysis of emerging signals detected in the artistic, economic and societal fields, this approach draws a wardrobe in four inspiring themes for fashion designers. Pattern design boards grouping the color universes around 3 "star colors", the looks and silhouettes staged for each creative universe allow us to explore the trends for Autumn-Winter 2025-2026.

#1 Confrontation. This first proposal sets the scene: by exposing the infinite potential of AI, it reminds us of our immaturity. It expresses the fragility of the human condition and its need for protection. The rather pure color universe is oriented towards vegetal nuances, dominated by ivory, soft green and woody palettes. The protective, fluffy textures - while borrowing from the geological world - convey the sensoriality of this theme.

#2 Seduction. « There’s nothing left but to enjoy the show! » The second phase of our fascination with these technologies that surpass us is seduction. Magic is at the heart of this theme, where life, in all its forms, is most visible. It emerges at the heart of the material, through organically inspired textures, human figures and mineral inlays. This "prolonged life" is expressed through a palette of carnal, languorous and embodied colors, but also with bright, floral and sweet tones.

#3 Alienation. The abandonment lasted only a short time: seduction no longer works, and [artificial] intelligence takes over. « We had believed that freedom meant no longer having to choose. It was quite the opposite. We

abandoned our decisions. » The algorithm outpaces thought, takes over and occupies space... Matter is distorted and spread out... It steps out of the space in which we're used to seeing it. The key colors are warm and assertive, and are applied to materials that express universes close to life, with draped textures and embroidery.

#4 Annihilation. Humans disappear, fade away and submit to AI. It's the theme of erasure. « We have simply become insignificant […] Ejected from the equation. » Here, colors are absent, palettes disembodied, extremely mineral, metallic and dusty. Here, technical fabrics perfectly translate this quest for neutrality, with smooth, lacquered aspects: coatings find a privileged terrain of expression here with lunar, sedimentary-inspired relief effects.

All four universes will be showcased in two Trend Forums: one at Texworld Paris for fabrics, the other at Apparel Sourcing Paris for finished products. Visitors will be able to discover looks inspired by the fabrics and products selected by the show's artistic directors. The Highlights Elite and Highlights Denim areas will also offer a number of variations on these themes, with samples and scenarios to illustrate each.

About Seller Logix

Seller Logix LLC is a forward-thinking logistics and warehouse management company dedicated to providing

transparent, efficient, and reliable logistics support to e-commerce sellers.

Specializing in platforms such as Amazon, Walmart, and Etsy, Seller Logix serves the unique needs of small to medium-scale manufacturers, particularly those based in Pakistan looking to penetrate the U.S. market. Founded by Azam Jamil Qazi, Asavir Siddique, and Ismail Owaisi, Seller Logix stands out for its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and client satisfaction.

The inception of Seller Logix traces back to the practical experiences of Azam Jamil Qazi and Asavir Siddique, who were deeply involved in Amazon account handling. They identified significant gaps in the logistics support sector, including a lack of transparency and the dominance of brokers without actual warehouse facilities, which inflated logistics costs. They also discovered that many so-called 3PL (third-party logistics) warehouses were, in reality, small garages, far from the professional storage solutions they claimed to be.

Recognizing these issues, Azam and Asavir sought a partner with a legitimate warehouse in the USA. They found this partner in Ismail Owaisi. Together, they established Seller Logix, creating a standard of operations focused on full transparency and reliability. This partnership not only bridged the logistical gap but also brought together a wealth of knowledge and expertise in e-commerce and logistics.

Trützschler presents T-SUPREMA in live demonstration at Techtextil

At Techtextil trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany in April, the Trützschler Nonwovens team demonstrated the performance of T-SUPREMA live at customer events. Customers were impressed by the flexibility of the needle-punching line.

Techtextil is the world’s leading trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens. At this year’s event in Frankfurt, Germany, Trützschler Nonwovens presented its T-SUPREMA production concept for manufacturing different types of nonwovens on a single line – with high levels of quality, productivity and costefficiency. Those insights generated a huge amount of interest. And representatives from several companies got invited to see an up-and-running installation at our Technology Center in nearby Egelsbach.

The T-SUPREMA is an exciting innovation for this market because it offers unique levels of flexibility. It can produce lightweight and heavyweight nonwovens, from 30 grams per square meter (gsm) up to more than 2,000 gsm, on one production line. It also features a clean concept that minimizes downtime for cleaning or maintenance. And it is especially well-suited for producing lightweight needle-punched nonwovens, which enables cost-efficient products from this challenging application.

With our T-SUPREMA, we offer our customers great flexibility. They can react quickly to changes in demand or develop new products that are outside of what has been produced before. As part of our

longstanding commitment to coinnovation, Trützschler joined together with Texnology to develop the TSUPREMA. This Italian machinery manufacturer has deep specialization in mechanical needling. Its state-of-the-art needleloom designs play a key role in enabling the T-SUPREMA to serve such an extensive range of nonwoven applications.

Excitement in Egelsbach

Visitors to the Trützschler Nonwovens Customer and Technology Center in Egelsbach got the chance to experience the super-flexible T-SUPREMA line in action. The industrial-scale setup has a working width of 4 meters. It also features three bale openers, a blending bin, a fine-opener, a card with 3-meter width and crosslapper, two needlelooms, a felt drafter and a winding section.

What is so special about the TSUPREMA? Unlike other

needle-punching installations, the TSUPREMA is not optimized for one end product only: with a changeover time of about 60 minutes, customers were able to see how the same line first produced an extremely light 35 gsm nonwoven with three double layers after the crosslapper, in which a microfiber was used. Later, after the short changeover time, the line produced a 1,400 gsm nonwoven with 23 double layers after the crosslapper, using the typical coarse fibers with 3.3 and 6.7 dtex. This production process was underlined by an impressive light show.

Test the T-SUPREMA today

Tests and trials with this highperformance needle-punching line have already impressed companies from across the global nonwovens industry. The production speed, ease of use and broad working window have captured hearts and minds. And the overall output quality of the uniquely broad range of products has also grabbed the attention of visitors to Egelsbach – with more trials planned: More and more companies are booking tests at our Technology Center. From lightweight to heavyweight nonwovens, the T-SUPREMA can produce them all. But convince yourself: Book your trial today!

Italian textile machinery faced challenges during FY23

The economy of Italy is the 3rd-largest national economy in the Eurozone, the 8th-largest by nominal GDP in the world, and the 12th-largest by GDP (PPP). Italy is the eighth largest exporter in the world with US$ 2 billion exported in 2023.

Based on the average exchange rate for 2023, Italy uses the euro which depreciated by roughly 20% against the US dollar. The weaker EU currency in 2022 made Italy’s exports paid for in stronger US dollars relatively less expensive for international buyers compared to previous year.

In the year of 2023 the main destination of Italian exports of textile machines was Asia (39%), followed by Europe Union (22%) and European extra EU (14%). The biggest contribution to the Italian exports of textile machinery came from China, In the year 2023 Italian sales towards China market amounted to a value of 222 million euro. Other main markets are Turkey, India and United States of America.

The textile machine market consists of players that manufacture basic machines for labour intensive textile manufacturing countries and machines for advanced and

Source: ACIMIT

developed countries producing textile products, where labour is expensive.

Automation just like in any other industry helps in bringing down the operation cost and provides better products.

Now Italy is one of the main producers and exporters of textile machinery in the world. The Italian textile industry still plays an important role in the fashion sector and the entire national manufacturing, although deeply resized compared to the first half of the last decade. On the European scale, Italy stands on the podium of the main producers with a high level of specialization in the different stages of the value chain. There are approximately 300 companies who produce textile machines

and related accessories, for a total of about 12,900 employees.

A majority of Italian manufacturers are actually small to medium-sized enterprises that provide custom-made spinning, weaving, knitting, finishing, laundry and dry cleaning machines to the market. These machines are designed to process natural as well as manmade fibres, in order to provide the right solution for its global customers.

According to the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT), creativity, sustainable technology, reliability and quality are the characteristics which have made Italy a leader in the manufacturing of textile machinery. Currently, Italy holds a strong

position as one of the main suppliers of textile machinery in the world.

Among the top producers of textile machinery manufacturers in Europe Italy holds second place after Germany and the technological level of its production is considered of the highest standard even by their competitors themselves.

Production of Italian textile machinery decreased from Euro 2,709 million in 2022 to Euro 2,300 million in 2023, thus showing a decrease of 15%. As per ACIMIT, the orders index for textile machinery drawn for the period from 2023 showed a 15% decrease compared to the same period for 2022.

On the other hand exports of Italian textile machinery also decreased from Euro 2.3 billion in 2022 to Euro 2 billion in 2023, thus showing decrease of 14%. The wide supply of Italian textile machinery manufacturers let them face the needs of all the potential customers. Exports represent 87% of total sales, realized in about 130 destination countries. This process of internationalization, together with the vocation for innovation in the sector, allowed Italian companies to consolidate and further improve the leading position held by the Italian textile machinery industry all over the world.

Table 2: Italian textile machinery exports (Main Countries)

Source: ACIMIT

Production and exports of Italian textile machinery for the past four years are given in Table 1.

The supply of Italian manufacturers covers all the classic sectors into which we can divide textile machines. Italian sales abroad are divided among these main sectors: 29% finishing machines, 21% accessories, 22% spinning machines, 11% knitting machines, 8% weaving machines and 9% other machines.

In 2023 Italian exports of textile machines were divided as follows: Asia (39%), followed by European Union (22%), Europe extra EU (14%), North America (9%), Latin America (8%) and Africa (8%).

The biggest contribution to the Italian exports of textile machinery came from China. In the 2023 period Italian exports toward the Chinese market amounted to a value of Euro222 million. Other markets are Turkey, India and United States of America.

Future prospects

Italian textile machinery manufacturers have long been committed to providing sustainable technological solutions both from an environmental has been committed since 2010 with the "Sustainable Technologies" project and an economic standpoint, capable of effectively reducing consumption and production costs.

The digitalization of production processes in the textile sector is an indispensable response to new trends requiring faster time-to-market and just-intime production.

To provide a suitable response to clients who are facing difficult challenges in developing new production processes and business models within the textile industry. Italian product ranges are increasingly compliant with 4.0 technologies. There are numerous examples of these types of technologies in Italian machinery offerings on display at ITMA Milan. Among these the use of intelligent management platforms, on-board machine sensors for data acquisition allowing the monitoring of both the machine and products, predictive maintenance, for a reduction in costs obtained through less downtime, and augmented reality applications supporting the operator in the various production phases.

Italy remains an important market for Pakistan with billion dollar worth of exports during FY23

Pakistan and Italy have excellent relations and cooperation in the fields of both development and non-development sectors and the same are growing day by day. Italy has always followed with keen interest the Pakistani market and in the past decades has gradually increased its’ positioning, becoming one of the top ten global trading partners of Pakistan and the second amongst the EU Member States with a growing trade exchange amounting in 2023 to over US$ 1.6 billion.

Hence, over the years, Italian companies have been looking more and more at Pakistan for trade and investments. Energy remains the most important sector, while alternative energies, including solar, wind and biogas, are acquiring growing importance in our commercial relations. The Pharmaceutical sector maintains a relevant position in our bilateral trade relations with some of the Italian main companies, operating on the Pakistani

market since the 1980s. The automotive sector also plays a leading role, as well as textile as most of the spinning mills prefer Italian machinery.

Pak-Italy Trade

The exports from Pakistan to Italy have increased under Generalized System of Preferences-Plus scheme. For the past years trade between Pakistan and Italy has increased but the rise in exports has

been greater than the imports. However, the balance of trade in favour of Pakistan increased from US$ 317 million in 2022 to US$ 624 million in 2023. Pak-Italian trade is given in Table 1.

Cotton fabrics and yarn, readymade garments, towels, hosiery, beddings, carpet and rugs, cotton, leather, sports goods and surgical instruments are the major items exported from Pakistan to Italy.

Export of textile and other items from Pakistan to Italy increased to US$ 1,151 million in 2023, thus showing an increase of 6.5% compared to last year, US$ 1,087 million.

Textile machinery, general industrial machinery, power generating machinery, petroleum products, transport vehicles, iron and steel, pharmaceuticals, acrylic fiber, chemicals and paper and paperboard are the main items imported to Pakistan from Italy.

Imports of Textile Machinery

Pakistan textile is the country’s single largest industry. Yet it is totally dependent on imported machinery, equipment, accessories and spares. The local facilities for manufacturing textile machinery items practically do not exist.

Italian textile machinery imports in Pakistan decreased from 92 million Euros in 2022 to 44 million Euros in 2023, thus showing a decline of 52%.

The most Italian machines imported were finishing ones (40%) of the total export towards Pakistan, followed by machines accessories (21%) and knitting (20%) in 2023.

Trade Commissioner of Italian Trade Agency (ITA) Gianpaolo Bruno has said that Pakistan's population of more than 200 million clearly indicates the huge potential that needs to be exploited; therefore, the business communities of Pakistan and Italy should work for enhancing the existing trade figures, he said in a meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI)

Categories 2023

The ITA Commissioner identified several areas of trade and investment cooperation, saying immense opportunities for enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Italy exist in different sectors, including capital goods, consumer goods, machinery, medical and pharmaceutical sectors and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs), etc.

Gianpaolo Bruno said there are many ways where both business communities could partner and generate values for their people. He said Pakistan needs to upgrade its food value chain and improve the quality of Pakistani food in order to enhance its exports to the European market where stringent regulations in terms of quality are expected in this context.

Source: ACIMIT

He said Italy has been importing textile, apparel, leather goods and surgical tools from Pakistan but the country needs Italian machinery to upgrade and uplift the quality of its finished goods, adding that Italy requires high quality products. The ITA commissioner said that his country also needs good chemical products and also specialised textile products for sports which could be imported from Pakistan.

Pakistan and Italy share healthy and dynamic bilateral relations. Italy offers great economic potential and increasing bilateral trade and cooperation with Pakistan in diversified areas of economic activity will help both the countries.

Italian investments in Pakistan have also been growing and a great example was the oil exploration giant ENI who is very active in Pakistan.

KCCI President said it was heartening to see that the two countries signed an inter-governmental agreement on cooperation in the field of LNG and MoU on cooperation between the trade development authorities of the two countries in the field of marble mining, leather and denim clothing.

Pakistan is a very important market for Savio Macchine Tessili

Davide Mercuri, Head of Sales Savio Macchine Tessili gave an exclusive interview to Pakistan Textile Journal during ITM exhibition Istanbul. Following are the excerpts from the interview.

PTJ: What are you displaying at the ITM textile machinery exhibition?

Davide Mercuri: At this year’s ITM exhibition, Savio Macchine Tessili S.p.A. is showcasing two of our latest machines: the Proxima winder and the Lybra air-jet machine. This is the first time we’re presenting the Lybra, which represents a new segment for us.

PTJ: What are the advantages of these machines compared to conventional ones?

Davide Mercuri: The Proxima winder has shown remarkable results. It offers a 12-15% increase in production and reduces energy consumption. These benefits have been confirmed in early installations worldwide, and we’re excited to introduce it to Pakistan soon.

The Lybra machine stands out for its flexibility, thanks to our unique multiblend system. This system allows users to quickly switch between different fiber compositions and counts via computer

settings. This flexibility, along with a more responsive machine performance, makes it highly appreciated by customers who need to handle varying production loads. Additionally, our innovative spinning chamber design significantly reduces energy costs, which is especially important in markets like Pakistan, where energy expenses are high.

PTJ: How do you view the Pakistani market?

Davide Mercuri: Pakistan is one of the most crucial markets for Savio,

consistently ranking among the top three to five globally. The Pakistani textile industry is technically advanced, and we’ve built a strong partnership with our customers there. While some projects have been delayed due to current economic conditions, none have been canceled. We anticipate that sales will pick up significantly soon. Our agents, Eurep Enterprises, are very active in promoting Savio machines, ensuring we maintain a strong presence in the country.

Ferraro: Debut of an all-new scouring machine at ITM 2024

Ferraro choose ITM 2024 debuted their latest innovative scouring marvel for open width fabrics.

European industrial textile machineries manufacturers understand they must necessarily seek competitiveness through innovation and environmental sustainability. Ferraro Spa, a leading company that has been operating for over 70 years in the textile finishing sector, both knitted and woven, with thousands of plants all over the world, believes that, as never before, innovation must go hand in hand with sustainable development. The theme has become guiding element of the company’s vision and an integral part of our daily lives, requiring us to adopt circular economy processes, reduce emissions, reduce energy from nonrenewable sources and ‘greening’ both production processes and products.

Since its inception, the company has been a supporter of the ACIMIT (Italian Association of Textile Machinery Manufacturers) Green Label project: an internationally recognised, successful certification that, through targeted redesigning of the machinery itself, aims to reduce energy consumption across the board and thus CO2 emissions, i.e. pollution.

This is a new industrial approach aimed at reducing the consumption of natural resources through their more efficient use, with the objective of preserving the natural environment and at the same time safeguarding the company’s development, and therefore employment.

Thanks to these policies, Ferraro Spa has achieved remarkable results that can be summed up in the introduction of a renewed range of models, which have led to a 47% reduction in overall energy consumption, a 62% reduction in overall steam consumption, and a 37% reduction in overall air consumption, making it an even greater reference in current and future industrial development.

On the sustainability front, Ferraro Spa has adopted new strategic actions, intervening both in the value chain and in relation with supply chain partners. This is a process of high strategic and social value for the company, which focus on green innovation to build the competitiveness of the future. In concrete terms, the company was among the first to join the recyclability project promoted by ACIMIT, to produce textile machinery with 100% recyclable components. While on the innovation front, the focus has been on the digitalisation of all its machinery, with full integration in digital flows, such as Industry 4.0, cloud technology and ‘predictive maintenance’ for remote assistance, where, thanks to the new remote assistance systems, now standard in Ferraro machinery, full remote diagnostics by specialised technicians can be performed directly from Ferraro site, monitoring the status of the machine/ line, identifying and solving any problems or defining the corrective activities to be undertaken. In addition, status checks can be carried out during routine maintenance to prevent breakdowns and ensure the smooth operation of the machinery or even improve its functionality and extend its productivity.

On the product front, Ferraro continues to renew and expand its range. At ITM 2024 Ferraro showcased their latest version of scouring machine, equipped with a new patented highperformance automatic and self-cleaning

filter called S.C.S. This filter is designed specifically for the filtration of chemical batches in the textile industry and is equipped with a vacuum suction system. The superior filtration degree is 35 μm. In the new version of Rotoclean, in addition to the S.C.S. filter, an ultrasonic system is included for the first time, which enables washing and de-oiling efficiency levels at a new level, up till now unseen on the market.

Giovanni Pizzamiglio, Commercial Director, Ferraro shared, “At ITM 2024, we are showcasing our latest machine which is an evolution of a previous generation of machine that we had in our catalogue, called Rotoclean. It is latest version of our scouring unit to remove weaving oil, especially for synthetic fibre with improved technology and two important improvements.

“The first one is addition of ultrasonic system to the washing tank that helps detaching the oil from the fabric and the second improvement that this machine has is a new generation of rotating filter with vacuum system that is able to filter 100% of the bath and not just remove the surface oil, but continuously filter the water while capturing the oil into a mesh and vacuum it out of the water. With the addition of these new improvements, and after rigorous testing at our facility we are happy to share that the machine now offers dramatic improvement in thermal performances among other important benefits, including valuable resource savings.“

Biancalani: High-quality finishes for upholstery fabrics and home decor

Up-holstery: the everlasting fil-rouge

When it comes to making a choice in home décor, the one thing to bear in mind is following an aesthetic fil-rouge –even one that is not eye-catching, but that you can definitely feel is there. The same is true for any other space that plays an important role in our lives, like an office, for example. Quite often, fabrics are a key element of customization and thus the one our attention should revolve around. And fabrics also mean upholstery.

Textures and colors are surely the two fabric features that catch our attention, but we rarely reflect that they are intrinsically tied when it comes to their perceived quality. And quality means that fabrics must both be long-lasting and have an incredible hand while combining beauty and comfort, in order for upholstery to follow a top-quality fil-rouge.

Now, let’s get to it, as none of this is possible if fabrics are not properly previously treated. That is when Biancalani Textile Machinery makes its appearance on the market. Fabrics must be processed in very specific ways in order to reach the desired results and the textile finishing processes can be the very

heart of it. What we definitely don’t want is a stiff, “carton-like” fabric to the hand, with a dull, flat look which is far from that aesthetic we all look for in home décor. Besides, the fabrics is likely to lose elasticity, especially due to the necessary sewing for upholstery.

With an efficient and cost-effective open-width continuous finishing process we obtain a controlled shrinkage and the opening of the chenille, ensuring those top-quality features such as softness, volume, uniformity and evenness of surface – that is an incredible hand – and tridimensionality, depth and richness of colors.

Only AIRO®24, patented by Biancalani awarded with the Green Label, the original dryer for continuous and open-width tumbling treatments of woven, non-woven and knitted fabrics, ensures the so-called AIRO®HAND effect that includes all the listed features – and many others, all information are available on the dedicated webpage – thanks to a uniform and even distribution of steam for a treatment that is 100% ecological. The process is energy-efficient for a number of reasons, such as its evaporation capacity, high production capacity and processing speed.

The technological division of Biancalani studies the solutions that are most suitable for each type of treatment and for different clients’ needs, as customization is the key to success, behind the scenes above all. Because it is precisely what happens behind the scenes that makes it possible to align textures with colors. That makes the abovementioned fil-rouge a real possibility and the gateway to harmonious spaces. Those spaces the end customer can be willing to pay an extra for.

Dissolva, Lafer’s waterless cleaning technology

Dry cleaning of synthetic stretch fabrics has evolved into a more advanced process that ensures maximum safety for workers and the environment while improving the oil removal action.

Introducing Dissolva

The Dissolva uses an organic solvent which is much more effective than water for eliminating through dissolution the spinning oils present especially in synthetic fabrics with elastic fibres. Since most of these oils are insoluble in water, conventional washing needs to emulsify the same through detergents and carry the oil away using a significant quantity of water. In the Dissolva, this water is saved.

About Lafer

Lafer is one of the most innovative surface finishing machinery suppliers and have been pursuing ideas for better fabrics for over 40 years.

All mechanical, electronic and software elements are designed, assembled and tested in our Schio factory to ensure total control over the machines.

According to Larry Fontana of Lafer, “We believe the very best finishing results are achieved when fabric tension and movement are controlled with the utmost care. You will achieve better fabrics due to this design principle along with a very strong integration between software, electronics and mechanical elements.”

Color Service srl: Accuracy and sustainability in the made-in-Italy dosing automation

Color Service can proudly look back on 37 years of history to ascertain how the company‘s face has transformed into a reality globally recognised as the leader in automatic dosing systems for powder and liquid products.

As a consequence, Color Service has gained the trust of more than 3.000 clients and provided them with many solutions solving the problems associated with the manual weighing of products. Through its global presence, the company helps customers over the entire life cycle of the systems, including assistance with the selection of the appropriate equipment, design-in support, installation, and after-sale servicing.

In 1987 Color Service was the first company to introduce in the market the first automatic dosing systems for dyestuffs, changing the approach of textile market towards automation. Thanks to high-speed irrigation screws and a unique scraper, our weighing machine mod. TRS automatically weighs every sort of dyestuff in powder or granule form, achieving a remarkable accuracy within small weighing. This device is integrated with a variety of automatic dissolving systems, which, based on the dissolution parameters and the quantity to feed dyeing machines, dissolve the dosed formula and deliver it to the customer's destinations.

Additionally, Color Service manufactures dosing/dissolving units for powder chemicals (Salt, Soda, Sodium), preparing the solution without changing the proper liquor ratio, as well as gravimetric/volumetric automatic dosing systems for liquid chemicals and auxiliaries. These systems combine the speed of volumetric measurement with the accuracy of gravimetric dosing.

In the textile sector, laboratory dyeing is fundamental to simulating the real dyeing production process. A wide range of laboratory equipment is designed and provided by Color Service such as automatic dyeing batches and solutions makers, volumetric solutions dosing systems with pipetting, automatic dye and chemical dispensers for small machines.

All Color Service dispensing systems are able of achieving higher dosing precision, reproducibility of recipes, and high production speed that allows the production process to be repeatable 24/7 and

reliable, allowing "zero defects" production. As a result, human intervention is minimized, and risk factors are essentially eliminated. All system processes are tracked and automatically monitored, and data is captured in software designed to be user-friendly and intuitive.

The majority of our innovations have been oriented toward environmental sustainability and industry 4.0 regulations. The boost in productivity and product quality, as well as the significant improvement in employee working conditions along with a massive energy saving, represents the highest benefits of our automation. The fully closed and aspirated system guarantees total control of the dust released during weighing and product suction that is retrieved and reintroduced into the production cycle, with obvious ecological and economic benefits. Indeed, one of the technology's highest priorities is to substantially minimize environmental and ecological hazards by limiting energy/water consumption, reducing pollution, and reducing material waste in order to create a sustainable finished product for customers.

With these trump cards in hand, the company had a significant increase in order intake in 2023, a successful goal rewarding the made-in-Italy technology.
