pesar del evidente contratiempo provocado en todos los ámbitos y a todos los niveles por el COVID 19, lamentarnos y añorar que las cosas vuelvan a ser como antes de que la pandemia se instalara en la sociedad, no nos va a ayudar demasiado. Nuestra capacidad de aceptación y adaptación a las circunstancias actuales será fundamental para llevar lo mejor posible la situación. Desde Puerto Portals, incluso en los momentos más delicados e inciertos, y siempre desde la máxima prudencia y cumpliendo con todos los protocolos marcados por las instituciones, sabemos que la vida debe seguir y que, tomando las medidas oportunas, la marina es un gran dinamizador para todas las personas que a diario nos visitan. La seguridad de los clientes, visitantes y trabajadores es nuestra prioridad. Por esta razón, pueden estar tranquilos y disfrutar de la oferta de ocio, náutica, shopping y restauración sabiendo que están en buenas manos. Iniciativas como el programa Activa-t, con actividades como Sup Pilates, Aquagym, entrenamientos funcionales y travesías a vela, kayak o paddle surf para ponernos en forma este verano o la celebración de la sexta edición de The Sunset Market, el mercado veraniego de Puerto Portals, son solo dos ejemplos de nuestro deseo de aportar una dosis de normalidad a estos tiempos tan atípicos apostando por actividades al aire libre y fomentando el deporte, así como la economía local de km 0 y la artesanía. Tiempos, por cierto, en los que las obras de renovación y mejora del puerto no se han detenido. Y que nos van a permitir tener abierto el nuevo aparcamiento subterráneo antes del próximo Christmas Market. Les deseo un feliz final de temporada, con la confianza de que más pronto que tarde, hayamos superado todos juntos estos momentos de incertidumbre.

Initiatives like the Activa-t programme, with activities such as SUP Pilates, Aquagym, functional training and sailing, kayak or paddle surf routes to get in shape this summer or the sixth year of The Sunset Market, Puerto Portals’ summer market. These are just two examples of our desire to add a dose of normality to these atypical times, committing to open-air activities and in this way supporting both sports and the local “zero kilometre” economy and crafts. Times, by the way, during which the renovation and improvement work on the port has not been halted. This will enable us to open the new underground car park before our next Christmas Market. I wish you a happy end of summer, and am confident that sooner rather than later, all together, we will have overcome this period of uncertainty.

Für die aktuelle Ausgabe haben wir vier Menschen aus Puerto Portals interviewt. Wir wollten wissen, wie sie die letzten Monate erlebt haben und was sie vorhaben, um die kommenden Monate zusammen zu schaffen.

UN ESFUERZO COMPARTIDO. “Volver de la forma en la que lo hemos hecho ha sido muy gratificante. Teníamos dudas, como es normal, pero la gente de Puerto Portals nos ha sorprendido gratamente”, dice Fernando P. Arellano, chef del restaurante Baibén. “Aquí respiro vida y alegría. Está todo igual que antes”, comenta Maite Arias, fundadora de Arias. “Ver grupos de amigos, familias reunidas pasándolo bien, la complicidad en las miradas... eso nos hace disfrutar otra vez”, confiesa Pablo Carreño, encargado de Grupo Capuccino en Puerto Portals. “A medida que pasas más tiempo aquí, te das cuenta de que no es un puerto normal, pues hacen esfuerzos organizando eventos muy especiales, como The Sunset Market, las regatas, el Christmas Market...”, afirma Rebecca Bensusan, General Manager de la coctelería Bop. UNOS MESES DE DESCANSO. “Me gustó la sensación de relax durante los meses en que no pudimos trabajar. Siempre compites con tu trabajo y te gusta mejorarlo, pero en mi caso pensé que no había nada que hacer, que cuando llegara el momento, ya lo solucionaría”, afirma Maite Arias, que después de 27 años en Puerto Portals quiere estar “otros 27 años más”. Durante estos meses, Fernando P. Arellano ha trabajado mucho la pacien-

A SHARED EFFORT. “Coming back, as we have done, has been very gratifying. We were hesitant, naturally, but the people of Puerto Portals have surprised us pleasantly”, says Fernando P. Arellano, chef of the restaurant Baibén. “I can feel life and joy here. Everything is the same as before”, says Maite Arias, the founder of Arias. “Seeing groups of friends, families together having a good time, the complicity in the way people look at one another... that makes us enjoy again”, admits Pablo Carreño, the head of Grupo Cappuccino in Puerto Portals. “As you spend more time here, you come to realise this is not a normal marina, because they make an effort by organising very special events, like The Sunset Market, the regattas, the Christmas Market...”, says Rebecca Bensusan, General Manager of the cocktail bar Bop.

EINE GEMEINSCHAFTSLEISTUNG. „Es war so schön, wieder wie vorher zu arbeiten. Natürlich waren wir anfangs etwas unsicher, aber die Leute von Puerto Portals haben uns angenehm überrascht“, erzählt Fernando P. Arellano, Chefkoch des Restaurants Baibén. „Hier atme ich Leben und Freude. Alles ist so wie vorher“, sagt Maite Arias, Gründerin des Arias. „Wenn wir die glücklichen Gesichter von Freunden und Familien und das Zusammengehörigkeitsgefühl in ihren Augen sehen, geht es uns auch wieder gut“, sagt Pablo Carreño, Verantwortlicher der Capuccino-Gruppe in Puerto Portals. „Je länger man hier lebt, desto klarer wird einem, dass das kein gewöhnlicher Hafen ist. Allein schon aufgrund der Bemühungen, ganz besondere Veranstaltungen zu organisieren, wie den Sunset Market, die Regatten, den Weihnachtsmarkt...“, bekräftigt Rebeca Bensusan, Geschäftsführerin der Cocktailbar Bop.

A FEW MONTHS OF REST AND REPOSE. “I liked the feeling of relaxation during the months when we couldn’t work. You always compete with your job and you like to improve, but in my case I thought there was nothing that could be done, that when the time came, I would sort it all out”, says Maite Arias who, after 27 years in Puerto Portals, wants to be here “for another 27 years”. Over these months, Fernando P. Arellano has done a lot of work on

Ha disfrutado con su madre y su hermano y ha emprendido retos como entrenar cada día dos o tres horas, o reprender sus estudios de alemán, “he estudiado tres o cuatro horas cada día”. También Rebecca Bensusan ha aprovechado para replantearse qué es lo importante de la vida, qué debía hacer, qué cambiar. También ha pasado mucho tiempo cuidando a sus padres y estudiando yoga para ayudarse a sí misma. “Cuando no puedes trabajar normalmente, te pasas el día mirando series, películas, te lo tomas como unas vacaciones más largas. Pero a medida que avanzaban los días, lo único que deseas es salir y regresar a tu vida normal”, confiesa Pablo Carreño.

He has enjoyed spending time with his mother and brother, and taken on challenges such as exercising for two or three hours a day, or resuming his study of German - “I studied for three or four hours every day”. Rebecca Bensusan has taken advantage of the situation too, to rethink what is important in life, what she should do, what changes to make. She has also spent a great deal of time caring for her parents and practising yoga in order to help herself. “When you can’t work as normal, you spend the day watching series and films, and you treat it like a long holiday. But as the days go by, all you really want is to go outside and get back to your normal life”, acknowledges Pablo Carreño.

Worauf kommt es im Leben wirklich an, was sollte man noch tun, was ändern? Außerdem hat sie sich viel Zeit für ihre Eltern genommen und zur Steigerung ihres eigenen Wohlbefindens Yoga gelernt. „Wenn man nicht wie gewohnt arbeiten kann, verbringt man den Tag damit, Serien und Filme anzuschauen, man empfindet das Ganze wie einen längeren Urlaub. Aber nach einer Weile will man einfach nur wieder raus und sein ganz normales Leben leben“, gesteht Pablo Carreño.

LA PRIMERA VEZ. Fernando, Maite, Rebecca y Pablo dibujan una sonrisa en el rostro y una mirada de felicidad al recordar el primer día que estuvieron en Puerto Portals. “Muchos amigos míos venían aquí con su barco y me decían ‘Maite, tienes que abrir una tienda en Puerto Portals, es espectacular’. Cogí un avión de Ibiza a Mallorca y, sin pasar por Palma, fui directa al puerto. Al entrar lo vi y dije: ‘este es el sitio’. Ese mismo día compramos un local:

It’s spectacular’. I took a plane from Ibiza to Mallorca and without stopping in Palma, I came directly to the port. When I arrived, I saw it and said, ‘This is the place’. We

Ver el ambiente del puerto, los clientes, era jugar la Champions League y yo quería jugarla”, recuerda Pablo con una mirada de nostalgia y de satisfacción al ver cumplido su deseo. “Hace dos años que trabajo aquí, y a medida que pasa el tiempo me voy dando cuenta del encanto y el carácter que tiene, y del esfuerzo que aquí se realiza con acciones benéficas, eventos, etc.”, dice Rebecca. “Quedé enamorado de Puerto Portals en 2007. Sí, tal y como suena. Su lujo, el cuidado de los detalles, el empaque del lugar me impactó mucho. Conocía los mejores sitios de España, pero al venir aquí descubrí que existía otra liga y yo quería jugarla. Por eso cuando pude entrar en el antiguo Tristán, fue un sueño hecho realidad”, relata Fernando Arellano. ¿CÓMO NO VAMOS A SALIR ADELANTE? Uno de los grandes valores de Puerto Portals es el valor humano de las personas que, día a día, dan vida a la marina. Y anécdotas que recuerdan con

bought premises on that very same day: no sooner said than done”, Maite recounts of her first day at the marina, in 1993. “I used to work in Puerto de Pollença, but when I had the chance to come here, I didn’t stop to think twice. Seeing the atmosphere of the port, the clients, was like playing in the Champions League and I wanted to do that”, recalls Pablo with a gaze of nostalgia and satisfaction at seeing his wish fulfilled. “I have been working here for two years, and as time passes, I realise how much charm and character it has, and the effort involved in everything that is done here, with the charitable work, the events, etc.”, says Rebecca. “I fell in love with Puerto Portals in 2007. Yes, it was exactly that. The luxury, the meticulous care taken over details, the look of the place had a huge impact on me. I had been to the best places in Spain, but when I came here, I discovered a whole new league and I wanted to be a player in it. Which is why when I was able to get into the former Tristán, it was a dream come true”, says Fernando Arellano.

Außerdem sehe ich, mit welchem Engagement hier Wohltätigkeitsveranstaltungen, Events, etc. organisiert werden“, sagt Rebecca. „Ich habe mich 2007 in Puerto Portals verliebt. Ja, genau, richtig verliebt. Der Luxus, die Liebe zum Detail – mich hat einfach alles total beeindruckt. Ich war an den schönsten Orten Spaniens, aber als ich hierherkam, wurde mir klar, dass dies eine andere Liga war, und in der wollte ich mitspielen. Deshalb war die Übernahme des ehemaligen Tristán für mich ein wahr gewordener Traum“, so Fernando Arellano.

cariño no les faltan. “Un día —recuerda Maite Arias—una señora entró a la tienda y me dijo que le encantaba lo que llevaba puesto, que había perdido las maletas y que me quería comprar la ropa que vestía, todo el conjunto. Le respondí con un poco de duda y ella me dijo ‘¡si usted tiene aquí mucha más ropa para ponerse!’. Se la di, se la puso y luego me pidió que perfume llevaba, solo por si se lo pedía alguien, ya que iba a la boda de una princesa”. Pablo Carreño recuerda con especial alegría “el recuerdo de las noches de verano en que, poco a poco, el ambiente se va animando hasta que espontáneamente la gente empieza a bailar junto a sus mesas, y se crea una sintonía fantástica entre los camareros y los clientes, llena de alegría por la vida”. “Ante los reveses de la vida, por lo general, saco mi mejor faceta. En mi ADN está el placer de sacar a relucir mi mejor versión en la adversidad”, afirma Fernando Arellano, quien desde los 17 años trabaja “unas 15 horas al día”. En cuanto a Rebecca Bensusan, la alegría de ver disfrutar a sus clientes no tiene comparación. Y aunque lleva poco tiempo en Puerto Portals, ya se siente un miembro más de esta gran familia.

And there is no lack of anecdotes, which they remember fondly. “One day,” Maite Arias recalls, “a lady came into the shop and told me she loved what I was wearing, and she had lost her luggage and wanted to buy the clothes I was wearing – the whole outfit. I answered her rather hesitantly and she said, ‘but you have lots more clothes to wear in here!’ I gave them to her, and then she asked me what perfume I was wearing, in case anybody asked her, because she was going to a princess’s wedding”. Pablo Carreño lights up when he recalls “the memory of the summer nights when the atmosphere gradually gets livelier and livelier until people start dancing by their tables on impulse, and the waiters and customers strike up a fantastic harmony, full of the joy of life”. “In the face of life’s setbacks, generally speaking my best side comes to the fore. The pleasure of bringing out the best version of myself in adversity is part of my DNA”, says Fernando Arellano, who has worked “about 15 hours a day” since he was seventeen. As for Rebecca Bensusan, the joy of seeing her customers have fun is unbeatable. And even though she hasn’t been in Puerto Portals for long, she already feels like another member of this big family.

Yachthafen tagtäglich mit Leben erfüllen. Und es mangelt nicht an Anekdoten, die sie gerne erzählen. „Eines Tages“, erinnert sich Maite Arias, „kam eine Dame in mein Geschäft und sagte, meine Kleidung würde ihr sehr gut gefallen. Sie hatte ihre Koffer verloren und wollte meine Garderobe kaufen – das komplette Outfit. Auf meine etwas verhaltene Reaktion rief sie aus: ‘Aber Sie haben doch hier so viel Kleidung zum Anziehen!’. Ich gab ihr also mein Outfit, und nachdem sie es angezogen hatte, fragte sie mich, welches Parfum ich trüge – für alle Fälle, falls sie jemand danach fragen sollte, denn sie war zur Hochzeitsfeier einer Prinzessin eingeladen.“ Pablo Carreño erinnert sich besonders gerne „an die Sommernächte, in denen die Stimmung nach und nach immer besser wurde, bis die Leute spontan anfingen, zwischen den Tischen zu tanzen und zwischen Kellnern und Gästen eine unglaubliche Harmonie voller Lebensfreude entstand.“ „Rückschläge holen aus mir normalerweise das Beste heraus. Bei Widrigkeiten meine beste Seite zeigen – das bin ich“, bekräftigt Fernando Arellano, der seit 17 Jahren „um die 15 Stunden täglich“ arbeitet. Und für Rebecca Bensusan gibt es nichts Schöneres, als die Freude ihrer Kunden zu sehen. Obwohl sie erst seit kurzem in Puerto Portals ist, fühlt sie sich schon jetzt wie ein weiteres Mitglied dieser großen Familie.

Während der Sommermonate hat die Segelschule in Puerto Portals junge Menschen auf den Zustand unserer Meere aufmerksam gemacht.

Cada año acaban en el océano unos ocho millones de toneladas de plástico, o lo que es lo mismo, cada segundo se vierten 200 kilos. El verdadero pulmón del planeta, el creador del entorno al 70 por ciento del oxígeno que respiramos, se ve ahogado por los residuos generados por el ser humano. Siendo conscientes de este problema, la Escuela de Vela Puerto Portals ha decidido poner en marcha un plan de actividades para que las futuras generaciones tomen consciencia de la cantidad de plásticos y residuos que hay en el mar y cómo poner freno a esta situación.

Every year around eight million tons of plastic ends up in the sea – that is to say, 200 kilos are dumped in it every second. The authentic lung of the world, the creator of approximately 70% of the oxygen we breathe, is asphyxiated by the waste generated by humans. Mindful of this problem, the Puerto Portals Sailing School set up an activity plan to raise awareness amongst future generations of the amount of plastic and waste there is in the sea and how to put an end to this situation. A lo largo de las semanas que han ido transcurriendo durante el verano, todo aquel que ha pisado la Escuela de Vela se ha visto involucrado de alguna forma en el proyecto que surge entre Puerto Portals y la organización Mar de Fondo: estar más comprometidos con nuestro entorno. Los monitores de la Escuela de Vela explican a los niños apuntados en las actividades de Multiactividad el problema que conlleva la contaminación por plásticos en el mar, les ofrece datos de interés y, finalmente, destacan la solución: reducir, reutilizar, reciclar y reparar. Durante la semana que dura el curso se organizan varios días de recogida de plásticos en la playa del Oratorio, entre los que habitualmente se encuentran colillas, bastoncillos, pajitas, bolsas, botellas o microplásticos, entre otros. Toda esta basura pone en peligro la vida de cientos de animales marinos, mata la biodiversidad de nuestros mares y océanos. Por otra parte, la Escuela de Vela, junto a Mar de Fondo, han organizado diferentes jornadas de recogida de residuos en el mar en las que han participado un amplio número de voluntarios. En total, este verano se han logrado recoger 267,13 kilos, lo que corresponde a la basura que llega al mar en tan sólo un segundo. Si entre todos nos sumamos al movimiento del cambio, podríamos multiplicar esta cifra y reducir el impacto de nuestros residuos en el mar. Over the weeks that have passed throughout the summer, anyone who came to the Sailing School was in some way or other roped into the project devised by Puerto Portals and the organisation Mar de Fondo: to be more committed to our environment. The Sailing School instructors tell the children enrolled in the Multi-activity programme of the problem caused by plastic pollution in the sea, offering them interesting data and finally, pointing out the solution: reduce, re-use, recycle and repair. During the week the course lasts, on several days plastic is collected on Oratorio beach. Among them, we habitually find cigarette ends, cotton buds, straws, plastic bags, bottles or microplastics, and more. All of this rubbish endangers the life of hundreds of sea animals, and kills off the biodiversity of our seas and oceans. In addition, the Sailing School and Mar de Fondo have organised different waste collection days at sea, with the participation of a large number of volunteers. In total this summer, 267.13 kilos have been picked up, an amount corresponding to the refuse that goes into the sea in just one second. If we all join the movement for change, we could change this figure and reduce the impact our waste has on the sea. einer Weise an einem von Puerto Portals und der Organisation „Mar de Fondo“ initiierten Projekt für mehr Umweltengagement mitgewirkt. Die Ausbilder der Segelschule erklären den am Multiaktiv-Training teilnehmenden Kindern nicht nur, welche Probleme der Plastikmüll im Meer verursacht, sondern bieten ihnen auch interessante Informationen und schließlich die Lösung an: reduzieren, wiederverwenden, recyceln und reparieren. Während des einwöchigen Kurses werden an diversen Tagen Abfallsammelaktionen am Strand von Oratorio organisiert. U. a. findet man dort auch Zigarettenkippen, Wattestäbchen, Strohhalme, Tüten, Flaschen und Mikroplastik. Dieser Müll bedroht nicht nur das Leben unzähliger Meerestiere, sondern auch die biologische Vielfalt unserer Meere und Ozeane. Gemeinsam mit „Mar de Fondo“ hat die Segelschule außerdem mit Freiwilligen mehrere Abfallsammelaktionen auf dem Meer organisiert. Insgesamt wurden in diesem Sommer 267,13 kg Abfall gesammelt, also die Menge, die tatsächlich sekündlich ins Meer gelangt. Wenn alle mitmachen würden, könnte noch sehr viel mehr Abfall gesammelt werden, und unseren Meeren würde es deutlich besser gehen. PUERTO 45 PORTALS

El aquagym es el deporte conocido como fitness o gimnasia acuática, ya que es una variante del aerobic. La gran ventaja es la disminución del riesgo de lesiones, ya que practicarlo en el mar es mucho menos invasivo y seguro para las articulaciones. Aumentar la flexibilidad, ser apto para todas las edades, promover la salud mental y la elevada quema de calorías, son algunas de las características que hacen ideal este deporte. Los entrenamientos funcionales se realizarán en la playa del Oratori, que está a pocos metros de la Escuela de Vela de Puerto Portals. Estas actividades constan de diferentes métodos que favorecen la pérdida de peso, mejoran la postura del cuerpo y tonifican la musculatura, entre otros muchos beneficios. Las travesías se desarrollan como actividades recreativas que sirven para conectar con el mar y explorar la costa en grupos. Durante dos horas un monitor guiará la actividad y acompañará a los usuarios a diferentes lugares de la costa de Calvià.

position correctly at the same time as you keep your balance. This sport works all the muscles in the body, and its benefits include an increase in flexibility and improvement of physical stability. Aquagym is the sport of aquatic fitness or exercise, a variant of aerobics. The big advantage is the reduced risk of injury, as practising it in the sea makes it much less invasive and safer for the joints. Increased flexibility, the fact that it is suitable for all ages, promotion of mental health and high calorie burning are some of the characteristics that make this an ideal sport. The functional training will take place on the Oratori beach, just a short distance from the Puerto Portals Sailing School. These activities consist of different methods that favour weight loss, improve bodily posture and tone muscles, as well as many other benefits. The routes are run as recreational activities designed to connect those taking part with the sea and explore the coast in groups. Over two hours, an instructor will guide the activity and accompany users to different places along the coast of Calvià.

Board. Dabei geht es um die korrekte Ausführung dieser Übungen bei gleichzeitiger Haltung des Gleichgewichts. Die Sportart ist ein Ganzkörpertraining, das sich u.a. günstig auf die Gelenkigkeit und körperliche Stabilität auswirkt. Aquagym ist mit Aerobic verwandt und auch als „Wasserfitness“ oder „Wassergymnastik“ bekannt. Sein großer Vorteil ist die Minimierung der Verletzungsgefahr; durch das Ausführen der Übungen im Wasser ist dieser Sport sanfter und schonender für die Gelenke. Außerdem ist er für jedes Alter ideal geeignet. Aquagym macht u.a. nicht nur gelenkiger, sondern hält auch geistig fit und erhöht den Kalorienverbrauch. Das Funktionstraining findet am Strand von Oratori nicht weit von der Segelschule von Puerto Portals statt. Verschiedene Techniken fördern u.a. die Gewichtskontrolle und sorgen zudem für eine bessere Körperhaltung und Muskelspannung. Die zweistündigen Exkursionen sind als Freizeitaktivitäten organisiert und haben zum Ziel, die Verbindung zum Meer herzustellen und die Küste in der Gruppe zu erkunden. Dazu fährt ein Instruktor mit den Teilnehmern zu verschiedenen Punkten an der Küste von Calvià.

Cala Deià

Cambiando de costa y siguiendo tras la búsqueda de calas paradisíacas, Cala Llombards, en Santanyí, invita a unas horas de tranquilidad, con su calmado oleaje y el tacto de su arena blanca y suave. Un poco más al sur nos espera la playa más “caribeña” de Mallorca, Es Trenc. Sus más de dos kilómetros de longitud hacen que siempre se pueda encontrar un espacio para tomar el sol junto a las dunas, y refrescarnos en sus aguas templadas y transparentes. A Cala Varques, un poco más al norte, llegar a pie o en barca supone de por sí una aventura para el visitante. Esta cala forma parte del Área Natural de Especial Interés (ANEI) de las calas de Mallorca. Este fabuloso lugar ha escapado de las urbanizaciones del resto del litoral, por lo que es un lugar completamente virgen. Al noroeste llegamos a Canyamel, una playa semiurbana situada a unos 4 km. de Capdepera y a 5,5 km. de Cala Ratjada. Su arena dorada y la poca saturación la convierten en el emplazamiento ideal para descansar y relajarse. Por último, la Colonia de San Pedro, perteneciente al municipio

Changing coasts now, and continuing with the quest for heavenly coves, Cala Llombards, in Santanyí, beckons one to partake of a few hours of peace and quiet, with its calm waves and the touch of its soft, white sand. A little further south Mallorca’s most “Caribbean” beach awaits us: Es Trenc. Stretching as it does for more than two kilometres, you can always find a spot to sunbathe in next to the dunes, and take a refreshing dip in its warm, clear waters. Reaching Cala Varques – slightly to the north – on foot or by boat is an adventure in itself for visitors. This cove forms part of the Special Area of Natural Interest (ANEI) of the coves of Mallorca. This fabulous spot has escaped the developments of the rest of the coastline, and as such is completely pristine. To the northwest we come to Canyamel, a semi-urban beach located about 4 km. from Capdepera and 5.5 km. from Cala Ratjada. Its golden sand and the absence of crowds make it the perfect place in which to rest and unwind. Finally, Colonia de San Pedro, which belongs to the municipality of Artà, will delight anyone who loves traPUERTO 51 PORTALS

Auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite der Insel lädt die paradiesische Bucht Cala Llombards bei Santanyí mit flachem Wellengang und feinem, weißen Sand zum Entspannen ein. Etwas weiter südlich erstreckt sich Mallorcas „Karibikstrand“ Es Trenc. Auf über zwei Kilometern Länge findet sich immer einen Platz für ein Sonnenbad neben den Dünen; anschließend sorgt das angenehm temperierte und klare Wasser für eine herrliche Erfrischung. Die Cala Varques ein Stück weiter nördlich ist für Besucher etwas abenteuerlich nur zu Fuß oder per Boot erreichbar. Die traumhaft schöne Bucht wurde zum Glück nie bebaut und ist deshalb im Gegensatz zum Rest der Küste immer noch völlig unberührt. Im Nordosten, ca. 4 km von Capdepera und 5,5 km von Cala Ratjada entfernt, liegt der semi-urbane Strand von Canyamel. Hay un camino de sostenibilidad a seguir para reducir nuestro impacto. ¿En qué se ha notado? La naturaleza ha vuelto de algún modo a los comportamientos no influidos por el hombre. Hemos visto más cetáceos, más delfines, más ballenas y más fauna cerca de la costa. ¿Qué acciones o hábitos, por simples que parezcan, ayudan a proteger el mar? Cualquier acción que hacemos acaba en el mar. Entonces, para que la calidad del agua sea óptima, debemos ser moderados e intentar tener un equilibrio con nosotros mismos como parte del ecosistema. Hay que ser más conscientes y pensar de una forma más global. Toda acción tiene un impacto directo en el mar, y más en entornos pequeños como las Baleares. ¿Qué características hace especial al Mar Mediterráneo? Es un mar cerrado, muy salado, tiene una situación geopolítica muy distinta, con muchos países que tienen distintas normativas medioambientales. Es uno de los mares con mayor tráfico marítimo, tiene mucha diversidad, mucha riqueza de fauna, se calienta mucho en verano y tiene mucha profundi-

ne of the few positive pieces of news from the months of lockdown is that we have given the sea a break... Yes, we have given nature as a whole a break, there has been less pollution in all senses. We have seen a significant change over a very short period of time, and this means the sea has an extremely high degree of plasticity and both organisms and the quality of the environment have improved substantially. There is a path of sustainability which must be followed in order to reduce our impact. How has this shown itself? In a way, nature has returned to behaviours that are not influenced by man. We have seen more cetaceans, more dolphins, more whales and more fauna near the coast. What actions or habits, however simple they may appear to be, help protect the sea? Any action of ours ends up in the sea. So for the quality of the water to be optimal, we have to be moderate and try to find an equilibrium with ourselves as part of the ecosystem. We need to be more aware and think more globally. Every action has a direct impact on the sea, and more so in small environments like the Balearic Islands. What characteristics make the Mediterranean Sea special? It is an enclosed sea, very salty, with a highly distinct geopolitical situation, surrounded by many countries that have different environmental regulations. Wir sollten bewusster leben und globaler denken. Alles wirkt sich unmittelbar aufs Meer aus; das gilt umso mehr für kleinere Regionen wie die Balearen. Was macht das Mittelmeer so besonders? Es ist ein Binnenmeer mit hohem Salzgehalt in einer ganz besonderen geopolitischen Lage, umgeben von vielen Ländern mit unterschiedlichen Umweltrichtlinien. Donde ahora hay una cala, hace millones de años quizás había una playa que posteriormente se fosilizó. La arena blanca es el resultado de la erosión de la roca, así como de las pequeñas conchas de carbonato cálcico, que es de color blanco. Cuando un organismo como un pequeño caracol o una concha muere, se erosiona y forma granitos de arena que son blancos, por eso vemos la arena blanca, gracias a que el mar ha estado produciendo esa arena. ¿Cómo ayuda la tecnología a cuidar o conocer el estado del mar? Hoy manejamos datos a tiempo real. Podemos saber la altura media del mar, el nivel del agua, si queremos ir a una playa a hacer surf ya podemos saber a qué hora va a haber olas, de qué dirección soplará el viento... El mar es algo muy dinámico, un torbellino de cambios. ¿Qué significa para usted el Mar Mediterráneo? Vida, cultura y futuro. Es la cuna de la civilización mediterránea y debe seguir siendo nuestro nexo de unión. El mar es el pulmón de la tierra, más que las selvas, porque el 70% de la superficie de la tierra es mar. Y todas estas comunidades biológicas generan oxígeno, capturan el CO2 y mitigan el efecto del cambio climático. Nos dedicamos a explorar mucho el espacio exterior, y se tiende a abandonar el estudio de los mares y los fondos marinos. Hay muchísimas cosas que todavía desconocemos del mar, y en él está nuestro futuro.

And how do you explain the fact that we have such spectacular beaches and coves here? During geological eras, the Mediterranean Sea dried up and has changed a great deal over the millennia. What we see now is the result of many, many years of geological and morphological changes. Where there is now a cove, millions of years ago there may have been a beach that subsequently became fossilized. The white sand is the result of the erosion of the rock, and of little shells of calcium carbonate, which is white. When an organism like a small snail or a shellfish dies, it is eroded and forms little grains of sand that are white, which is why we see white sand, because the sea has been producing that sand. How does technology help look after the sea, or determine its state? We have real-time data now – we can know the average sea level, the water level, what time there will be waves if we want to go to a beach to surf, what direction the wind will be blowing in... The sea is very dynamic, a maelstrom of changes. What does the Mediterranean Sea signify for you? Life, culture and future. It is the cradle of Mediterranean civilisation and must continue to be the link that connects us. The sea is the lung of the Earth, more than jungles, because 70% of the surface of the planet is sea. And all of these biological communities generate oxygen, capture CO2 and mitigate the effect of climate change. We devote ourselves to exploring outer space, and tend to abandon the study of the oceans and the sea bed. There is much we still do not know about the sea, and our future lies within it. Wie können wir die Technologie zum Erhalt oder der Beurteilung der Gesundheit des Meeres nutzen? Heutzutage verarbeiten wir Daten in Echtzeit. Wir kennen den durchschnittlichen Meeresspiegel und den Wasserstand; wenn wir surfen wollen, wissen wir, wann es Wellen geben und aus welcher Richtung der Wind wehen wird... Das Meer ist extrem dynamisch, es ändert sich pausenlos. Was bedeutet Ihnen das Mittelmeer persönlich? Es ist Leben, Kulturraum und Zukunft. Es ist die Wiege unserer Zivilisation und sollte uns weiterhin verbinden. Das Meer ist die Lunge der Erde, viel mehr noch als der Wald, denn es bedeckt 70 % der Erdoberfläche. Además de estas importantes obras, el anillo circular de fibra óptica va a dotar a la marina de una vía digital de información para muchos servicios: accesos, megafonía, red Wifi, transmisión de datos, control de aparcamiento... Saldrá de la Torre de Capitanía y dará toda la vuelta al recinto, con un cable que correrá por debajo del mar para que la información sea redundante. De esta manera, la eficiencia del servicio será máxima.

UN PUERTO MÁS SOSTENIBLE. La independencia hídrica de Puerto Portals también está más cerca. En breve se instalará una planta de desalinización de agua para consumir menos recursos naturales de la isla. El mecanismo es sencillo: se cogerá agua del mar, se desalará, se realizará ósmosis, se descalcificará y luego se mineralizará. Así, el agua tendrá muchísima más calidad para el consumo humano, baldeo de embarcaciones, riego de jardines y limpieza de viales.

A MORE SUSTAINABLE PORT. Water independence is also close at hand for Puerto Portals. A water desalination plant will soon be installed, to reduce consumption of the island’s natural resources. The mechanism is simple: sea water will be taken up and desalinated, osmosis performed, and the water will be decalcified and then mineralised. In this way, the water will be of much higher quality for human consumption, boat flushing, watering gardens and cleaning roads.

EIN NACHHALTIGERER HAFEN. Auch im Wassersektor strebt Puerto Portals nach Unabhängigkeit. Demnächst wird eine Entsalzungslange zur Schonung der natürlichen Wasserressourcen der Insel gebaut. Das Prinzip funktioniert ganz einfach: Entnommenes Meerwasser wird entsalzt und eine Osmose eingeleitet; anschließend wird das Wasser entkalkt und mit Mineralstoffen angereichert. Das Ergebnis ist nicht nur qualitativ hochwertiges Trinkwasser, sondern auch besseres Wasser für die Reinigung der Yachten und Wege sowie zur Bewässerung der Grünflächen.
