Aportar al planeta más de lo que restamos, que la comunidad de Puerto Portals sea consciente de la necesidad de proteger el entorno en el que vivimos, que esté convencida de compartir los objetivos de sostenibilidad de la marina y que, a su vez, se sienta embajadora y defensora de esa cultura de sostenibilidad. Esta es la ambiciosa meta que nos hemos fijado en Puerto Portals y que estamos persiguiendo con paso firme.

Ser parte del cambio hacia la sostenibilidad y liderarlo en el sector de los puertos deportivos es uno de los temas principales en nuestra agenda, como parte fundamental de la transformación cultural que estamos desarrollando en Puerto Portals desde hace unos años.

En este sentido, nuestra alianza con la asociación Mar de Fondo nos está permitiendo abordar el tema con fuerza y dedicación, otorgándole a la sostenibilidad la importancia que se merece desde dentro.

Queremos que Puerto Portals sea un referente y que provoque cambios reales, fomentando un modelo que reduce al máximo su impacto en el ecosistema y que educa a las personas. Precisamente, consideramos la educación como un pilar fundamental para alcanzar nuestra meta, y nos sentimos unos privilegiados por contar con una escuela de vela que nos permite trabajar con grupos de niños y adultos todos los años, creando un modelo educativo apoyado en expertos externos y asociaciones medioambientales. Pensar de manera global, pero actuar apoyando a nuestro entorno local, va a ser fundamental para tener éxito en nuestra estrategia.

En paralelo a estas acciones que contribuyen decisivamente a fomentar un turismo responsable en nuestra isla, el Puerto sigue modernizándose con la remodelación de los pantalanes o de la nueva gasolinera, y con el diseño del espectacular beach club que esperamos pueda estar listo para la temporada de 2024.

To give back to the planet more than we take from it, to ensure the Puerto Portals community is aware of the need to protect the environment we live in and determined to share the marina’s sustainability goals, and at the same time to turn it into an ambassador and defender of that sustainability culture. This is the ambitious goal we at Puerto Portals have set ourselves, and we are pursuing it unremittingly.

Forming part of the shift towards sustainability and leading the way in the marina sector is one of the top items on our agenda, as an essential part of the cultural transformation we have been undertaking at Puerto Portals for some years now.

In this regard, our alliance with the Mar de Fondo association is allowing us to tackle the issue with force and dedication, granting sustainability the importance it deserves from within.

We want Puerto Portals to be a benchmark, and to bring about real changes, fostering a model which reduces its impact on the ecosystem to the maximum extent and educates people. In particular, we see education as a foundational pillar for attaining our goal, and we feel privileged to have a sailing school that enables us to work with groups of children and adults every year, creating an educational model supported by external experts and environmental associations. Thinking globally, but acting in support of our local environment, will be fundamental for the success of our strategy.

In parallel to these actions, which make a decisive contribution to promoting responsible tourism on our island, the port is still being modernised, with the renovation of the jetties or the new fuel station, and the design of the spectacular beach club which we hope will be ready for the 2024 season.

Puerto Portals und der Verein Mar de Fondo wollen mit ihrem Projekt Blue Marina das Bewusstsein für Umwelt und Nachhaltigkeit stärken.

La velocidad con la que el planeta avisa de que sus recursos son limitados es equivalente al ritmo con el que la sociedad los consume. La Tierra es la primera en dar la voz de alarma, y de alguna manera todos necesitamos arrimar el hombro para paliar este problema.

The speed with which the planet is warning us that its resources are limited is matched by the pace at which society consumes them. The Earth is the first entity to raise the alarm, and one way or another we all need to pitch in to mitigate this problem.

Unser Planet führt uns seine begrenzten Ressourcen in dem Maße vor Augen, wie wir sie verbrauchen. Die Erde schlägt als erste Alarm, und es bedarf der gemeinsamen Anstrengung aller Akteure, ihre Probleme abzufedern.

Con este objetivo, Puerto Portals ha creado junto a Mar de Fondo el Proyecto Blue Marina, para “generar estrategias de protección del medio marino, estrategias de conservación del Puerto y mejoras en el ahorro energético, trabajando mucho en áreas de la sostenibilidad del medio marino y del entorno portuario” , explica Álvaro Irala, capitán de Puerto Portals.

Para lograr estas metas se va a fomentar el aspecto cultural con todos los empleados de la marina, con el fin de lograr una transición lo más rápida posible hacia un Puerto más sostenible.

Otro de los pilares fundamentales de Blue Marina es la concienciación de los más pequeños. Los niños de la Escuela de Vela de Puerto Portals recibirán masterclasses sobre cómo ser más respetuosos con el entorno que nos rodea, en las que participarán entidades como Palma Aquarium, Vell Marí y Med Shark, entre otras.

“Cuando los niños llegan por primera vez a la Escuela de Vela les enseñamos los diez mandamientos, que son unas normas de convivencia sobre cómo tratar los residuos y reducirlos, también les hablamos de una forma muy pedagógica de los ecosistemas marinos, la problemática que tenemos y la forma de protegerlos. With this goal in mind, Puerto Portals has created the Blue Marina Project along with Mar de Fondo, in order to “generate strategies to protect the marine environment, strategies for conservation of the port and improvements in energy saving, working intensely towards the sustainabili ty of the marine environment and the surroundings of the port” , says Álvaro Irala, captain of Puerto Portals.

To attain these goals, the cultural side will be promoted among all of the marina’s employees, in order to make the transition to a more sustainable port as quickly as possible.

Another fundamental pillar of Blue Marina is raising awareness among children. The pupils of the Puerto Portals Sailing School will receive masterclasses on how to be more respectful of the environment around them, with the participation of entities such as Palma Aquarium, Vell Marí and Med Shark, among others.

“When children come to the Sailing School for the first time we teach them the ten commandments, a series of basic rules of conduct on how to deal with and reduce waste, and we also give them some very educational talks on marine ecosystems, the problems we face and how to protect them. Hace dos años crearon Mar de Fondo, una asociación cuyo objetivo es “elevar la conciencia de las personas y así proteger y conservar la belleza de nuestras islas, conectándolas con la naturaleza a través de actividades deportivas en el mar”.

Vor zwei Jahren gründeten sie den Verein Mar de Fondo, „um das Bewusstsein für die Schönheit unserer Inseln zu stärken und diese dadurch zu schützen und zu erhalten, und um die Naturverbundenheit durch Sport auf dem Meer zu fördern.“

Semih ha abierto Tutti Sensi, el restaurante que abarca “todos los sentidos” pues con sus recetas pretende que sus clientes perciban los sabores de su comida. “Tenemos el mejor producto italiano, como embutidos o vinos, donde cada cliente puede disfrutar de una buena gastronomía en un sitio tranquilo”.

Semih has opened Tutti Sensi, the restaurant that covers “all the senses” because its recipes are designed to make customers truly perceive the flavours of the food. “We have the best Italian products, like cold cuts or wines, and every customer can enjoy great gastronomy in a quiet setting here”.

También es director general de uno de los circuitos de vela más prestigiosos a nivel internacional, las 52 Super Series, que entre el 21 y el 26 de julio se han celebrado en Puerto Portals.

Qué significa celebrar durante una semana la TP52 en Puerto Portals? Este año es la séptima vez que venimos, y nosotros sentimos Puerto Portals como si fuera nuestra casa. Se trata de un puerto totalmente moderno, vanguardista, en constante ebullición y con unas infraestructuras perfectas.

¿Cuánto de importante es para un puerto acoger un evento como la TP52? Nuestra regata tiene un impacto de al menos dos millones de euros. Son diez equipos que desplazan cerca de 30 personas, patrocinadores, comidas, hoteles... Tiene un buen impacto en la economía local.

¿Cómo empezó su relación con la vela? Empecé a navegar a los 11 años en San Sebastián. A partir de allí fui compitiendo en la vela de crucero, y soy profesional desde 1987.

¿Por qué se puede considerar a la vela como un deporte moderno? La vela es un deporte moderno porque es sostenible, está caracterizado por avances tecnológicos y es respetuoso con el medio ambiente, ya que se desarrolla en el mar y se nutre de la naturaleza.

What does it mean that the TP52 is being held at Puerto Portals for a week? This year is the seventh time we have come, and we feel as though Puerto Portals is our home. It’s a totally modern, cutting-edge port, that is constantly seething and has perfect infrastructures.

How important is it for a marina to host an event like the TP52? Our regatta has an impact of at least two million Euros. There are ten teams which move around 30 people, sponsors, meals, hotels... It has a great impact on the local economy.

How did your relationship with sailing begin? I started sailing when I was 11 in San Sebastián. From there I went on to compete in cruiser sailing, and I have been a professional since 1987.

Why can sailing be considered a modern sport? Sailing is a modern sport because it’s sustainable, characterised by technological advances and respectful of the environment, as it takes place in the sea and is powered by nature.

Wie wichtig ist die Ausrichtung einer Regatta wie dieser für einen Hafen? Unsere Regatta bringt einen Umsatz von mindestens zwei Millionen Euro. Wir kommen mit zehn Teams à ca. 30 Personen, Sponsoren, und alle müssen essen und schlafen... Das verleiht der Wirtschaft vor Ort eine enorme Dynamik.

Wann haben Sie mit dem Segeln angefangen? Als 11-jähriger in San Sebastián. Von da an segelte ich bei Rennen mit Fahrtenseglern, und seit 1987 bin ich Profi.

Warum gilt Segeln als moderner Sport? Weil Segeln nicht nur nachhaltig und technologisch fortschrittlich ist, sondern auch die Umwelt respektiert, denn man segelt auf dem Meer. Segeln ist ein sehr naturnaher Sport.

Wie organisiert und managt man ein Event dieser Kategorie? Der Aufbau der Regattastrecke, die Qualität des Regattakomitees und der Kampfrichter, die Wettervorhersage, das Technikteam und eine gute Kommunikation sowie der

¿Qué esperamos y qué espera alguien que acude por primera vez a ver las regatas? Quien acude por primera vez queda impresionado por la magnitud, los colores, la velocidad, las velas, el trabajo en equipo de las tripulaciones, la coordinación y de que no se choquen con lo cerca que pasan unos de otros. La competición está muy abierta y cualquiera puede ganar.

¿Por qué se les llama a los barcos de la 52 Super Series los “Fórmula 1” del mar? Porque utilizan materiales muy avanzados, por el diseño de las velas, los apéndices y las herramientas de diseño. El símil no se refiere a la velocidad, sino a la preparación, la gran competitividad. Aquí están los mejores navegantes del mundo, y un pequeño error puede hacerte perder cuatro o cinco puestos en la clasificación.

¿Cuánto tiempo tarda en construirse uno de estos barcos? Más de cinco meses y veinte mil horas de duro trabajo. El precio ronda los dos millones y medio de euros.

What can we expect, and what can someone who goes to see the regattas for the first time expect? People who come for the first time are impressed by the magnitude, the colours, the speed, the sails, the teamwork of the crews, the coordination and the fact that they don’t collide, given how close they sail to one another. The competition is wide open and anyone can win.

Why are the boats of the 52 Super Series called the “Formula 1s” of the sea? Because they use extremely advanced materials, and due to the design of the sails, the appendages and the design tools. The simile does not refer to the speed but the preparation, the huge competitiveness. The best sailors in the world are here, and a tiny error can knock you back four or five places in the ranking.

How long does it take to build one of these boats? More than five months and twenty thousand hours of hard work. They are priced at around two and a half million Euros.

Así definen Carolina y Antonio las piezas de cerámica que crean artesanalmente una a una. “Nuestro objetivo es desarrollar una línea de cerámica utilitaria y decorativa que aporten calidez a aquellos momentos simples que disfrutamos cada día, como una taza de café”.

Ideas and processes that turn into “simple objects that bring beauty”. This is how Carolina and Antonio define the ceramic pieces they create artisanally, one by one. “Our aim is to develop a line of utilitarian and decorative ceramics that bring warmth to those simple moments we enjoy every day, like when we have a cup of coffee”.

Aus Ideen und Prozessen werden „schlichte Dinge, die das Leben verschönern“. Hace casi 100 años y debido a la crisis mundial, Julià Puig y su hermano tuvieron que cerrar su fábrica de calzado. Pero Julià decidió crear una nueva empresa como distribuidor de refrescos, sifones y gaseosas en Llucmajor. Dos años más tarde, sus refrescos como la Pinya fueron conocidos por toda Mallorca, hasta convertirse en un símbolo.

Nearly 100 years ago, due to the international crisis, Julià Puig and her brother had to close their footwear factory. But Julià decided to create a new company as a soft drink, soda and carbonated beverage distributor in Llucmajor. Two years later, her soft drinks, like Pinya, were famous throughout Mallorca, to the point that they became a symbol of the island.

Vor fast 100 Jahren zwang die Weltwirtschaftskrise Julià Puig und seinen Bruder zur Schließung ihrer Schuhfabrik. Vier Generationen später gründete Julià in Llucmajor ein Vertriebsunternehmen für Limonaden und Softdrinks. Seine Erfrischungsgetränke wie z. B. Pinya waren nach zwei Jahren auf ganz Mallorca bekannt und haben inzwischen Kultstatus.

Selva Sierra nació el 13 de diciembre, día oficial de la luz, y curiosamente, empezó su trabajo en la creación de lámparas de cerámica. Influenciada por el arte indígena asiático y nativo americano, ha desarrollado un estilo propio y una pasión por la luz, el arte plástico y la joyería inspirada en el encanto y misticismo aprendido de diferentes maestros y chamanes.

Selva Sierra was born on 13 December, the day when light is officially celebrated, and curiously enough, she started work by creating ceramic lamps. Influenced by indigenous Asian and Native American work, she has developed a style of her own and a passion for light, the visual arts and jewellery inspired by the charm and mysticism she learned from different maestros and shamans.

Selva Sierra wurde am 13. Dezember –dem offiziellen Tag des Lichts – geboren und verlegte sich passenderweise auf die Herstellung von Keramiklampen. Manche fokussieren sich dabei auf hochwertige Kleidung aus recycelten marinen Abfällen.

Cada año cerca de ocho millones de toneladas de plástico terminan en mares y océanos. Con “la necesidad de dejar de utilizar los recursos naturales y crear una generación de productos reciclados, con la misma calidad y diseño que los mejores productos no reciclados”, nació en 2009 Ecoalf , de la mano de Javier Goyeneche (Madrid, 1970). Su colección primavera–verano SS22 está compuesta a partir de 500 tejidos reciclados, 250 millones de botellas de plástico recicladas, 80 toneladas de redes de pesca desechadas y neumáticos usados, recuperando más de 1.000 toneladas de residuos. Con ello ayudan a eliminar la basura marina del fondo de los océanos, convirtiéndolos además en prendas de alta calidad.

Fue una casualidad la que llevó al alpinista y surfista Yvon Chouinard a fundar la marca de ropa sostenible Patagonia en 1973, cansado de observar cómo los clavos con los que subía las rocas las erosionaban irremediablemente. Esta firma estadounidense crea la mayoría de sus prendas a partir de materiales posconsumo como botellas de plásticos, redes de pesca, ropa gastada o prendas que han sido tiradas a la basura. Auf Mallorca haben Maribel Nadal, Antonio Arenas, Jorge Moreno und Pedro Rosselló dieses Jahr die Firma Crabs Company gegründet. „Wir wollen die natürlichen Ressourcen schonen und schützen und die Gesellschaft dafür sensibilisieren, dass sie weder unerschöpflich sind noch zerstört oder verschwendet werden dürfen.“

Das Unternehmen hat sich auf Sommerkleidung für Herren spezialisiert, wie z. B. Badehosen, T-Shirts und Polohemden, aber auch Unisex-Kappen. „Alles wird aus recycelten Textilien in einem nachhaltigen, umweltfreundlichen Produktionsprozess hergestellt.“ Das Label kommt allmählich in Mode; Stars wie der Tennisspieler Rafa Nadal tragen es bereits.

Auch wenn es noch nicht die Norm ist: Selbst große Luxuslabel wie Prada bieten bereits die eine oder andere Handtaschenkollektion aus Recyclingmaterial an, für die regenerierte bzw. recycelte und gereinigte Nylonfäden aus marinen Plastikabfällen verwendet werden. Ein Beweis dafür, dass ein positiver Fußabdruck mit Glanz und Glamour einhergehen kann.

Equipados con un traje de neopreno, gafas de buceo, linternas y bombonas de oxígeno, los submarinistas descubren cada cierto tiempo estos nuevos territorios ocultos, entrando a veces por grutas estrechas y abriéndose paso a través de unos hábitats vírgenes.

Francesc Gràcia, espeleólogo y científico que quedó atrapado 60 horas en una cueva submarina en Manacor, ha llegado a afirmar que “Mallorca es todavía mucho más hermosa por debajo que por encima del suelo”, debido a la gran cantidad de cuevas que hay por toda la isla.

Escenarios como la Cova Blava en Sóller, la Cova de sa Madona en Cap des Llamp, el Clot des Moro y Cala Refeubetx en el área marina de la isla del Toro, y la Cova de s’Indio o la Cova d’en Jeroni en la zona norte de la isla, son algunas de las cuevas submarinas más espectaculares y visitadas por los aficionados al buceo y la espeleología. Estos lugares “ofrecen una visión diferente de la vida, más pausada, natural y menos contaminada por el hombre”, afirman algunos submarinistas que habitualmente se adentran en estas cuevas.

Más allá de la belleza, en estos lugares exiten muchos misterior por resolver y tesoros por descubrir, como las ánforas romanas encontradas en Ses Aiguades, una cueva de Alcudia, el verano pasado.

Equipped with wetsuits, diving goggles, flashlights and oxygen tanks, from time to time divers discover new hidden regions, sometimes entering through narrow grottos and forging their way through pristine habitats.

Francesc Gràcia, a speleologist and scientist who was trapped in an underwater cave in Manacor for 60 hours, has even gone so far as to say that “Mallorca is much more beautiful, even, underground than overground”, because of the large number of caves that exist all over the island.

Settings like Cova Blava in Sóller, Cova de sa Madona in Cap des Llamp, Clot des Moro and Cala Refeubetx in the marine area of the island of El Toro, and Cova de s’Indio or Cova d’en Jeroni in the north of the island, are a few of the most spectular and popular underwater caves with diving and speleology enthusiasts. Xavi Fuster cuenta con una dilatada trayectoria en el mundo del deporte y la gestión de espacios deportivos en varios países. Con su empresa Singular acaba de inaugurar su primer gimnasio boutique en Puerto Portals. “OUR COMMITMENT IS TO QUALITY OVER QUANTITY”. Xavi Fuster has a long background in the world of sport and managing sporting spaces in several different countries. With his company Singular, he recently inaugurated his first boutique gym in Puerto Portals. „WIR SETZEN AUF QUALITÄT STATT

QUANTITÄT”. Xavi Fuster hat weitreichende Erfahrungen in der Sportbranche sammeln können und Sportzentren in verschiedenen Ländern geleitet. Vor kurzem hat er mit seinem Unternehmen Singular sein erstes BoutiqueFitnessstudio in Puerto Portals eröffnet.

Cómo surgió la idea de abrir este gimnasio boutique en el Puerto? Corinna Graf, propietaria de Puerto Portals, nos propuso abrir un centro de entrenamiento, pero decidimos apostar por algo diferente. Estamos a 50 clientes (a la hora de escribir estas líneas) de poner lista de espera. El residente nos conoce, nos tiene cariño y sabe que vamos a cuidarle muy bien. En Singular ofertamos 350 plazas y nos quedan 50. Este espacio está orientado hacia la calidad del servicio, no a la cantidad. Además, conozco Puerto Portals desde hace muchos años.

El inicio de tu relación con Puerto Portals es muy curioso... Sí, cuando tenía 19 o 20 años fui el dj de la discoteca Cats. Recuerdo aquellos veranos como los mejores de mi vida. Allí también me hice muy amigo de José Caldés, el propietario, y fue él quien me ayudó a montar mi primer centro de entrenamiento.

¿En qué ha cambiado el Puerto de entonces a ahora? ¡Quien ha cambiado más he sido yo! (dice riendo). La gran virtud de Puerto Portals es que todo el mundo es bienvenido, y eso ha permanecido durante todos estos años. Se puede juntar la gente más sofisticada, y también venir tranquilamente a disfrutar de un bonito día. Es un puerto muy abierto donde nunca te sientes juzgado.

How did the idea of opening this boutique gym in the port arise? Corinna Graf, the owner of Puerto Portals, suggested that we open a training centre, but we decided to go with something different. We are 50 clients away from starting a waiting list (at the time of writing). Residents know us, like us and can rely on us to take very good care of them. At Singular, we are offering 350 places and already we only have 50 left. This space is geared towards quality of service over quantity. And also, I have been familiar with Puerto Portals for many years.

The start of your relationship with Puerto Portals is actually quite curious... Yes, when I was 19 or 20 I was the DJ at the discotheque. Those were the best summers of my life, as I remember. I also became good friends with José Caldés, the owner, back then, and he helped me set up my first training centre.

How has the port changed since then? It’s me who’s changed! (laughing). The great virtue of Puerto Portals is that everyone is welcome, and that is something that has stayed the same over all these years. The most sophisticated people can gather here, along with anyone who wants to come along quietly and have a lovely day out. It’s a very open port, somewhere you never feel judged.

Volviendo a Singular, ¿qué lo hace diferente a otros gimnasios? Nos movemos en tres ejes definitorios. La localización, que es exclusiva, el servicio y la digitalización. Los datos de bigdata que obtienes al interactuar con cualquier máquina pasan simultáneamente a tu perfil de tecnogym.

¿Cómo empezaste en el mundo deporte? De pequeño me encantaba el deporte y decidí estudiar ciencias de la actividad física. Los primeros años después de la carrera me dediqué a la preparación física de equipos de baloncesto, cursé un máster de alto rendimiento y me especialicé en ello.

¿Es más sencillo entrenar a un deportista profesional, o a alguien que acude a un gimnasio? Los deportistas son complicados porque tienen un factor ego muy importante. El deporte de alto rendimiento tiene una gestión emocional mucho más complicada porque está enfocada al dinero y no a la salud. Y, en un entrenamiento personal, te transformas más en un lifecoach que en un preparador físico. Lo más importante es influir en las horas en que el cliente no está contigo, para que implemente hábitos saludables.

When did you start out in the world of sport? I loved sport as a child and decided to study sports science. For the first few years after my degree, I worked on fitness coaching for basketball teams, and then I did a master’s degree in high performance sport and specialised in that field.

Una vez terminadas las obras de la nueva zona comercial, las mejoras de la zona de ocio de Puerto Portals se centran ahora en el edificio Panorama. En él se ubicará el nuevo beach club, que se espera pueda estar listo antes de 2024 y que será “único”, en palabras del capitán de Puerto Portals, Álvaro Irala. Situado sobre la escollera, el edificio diseñado por la arquitecta María Morro “tendrá unas vistas panorámicas a la bahía, una piscina infinity y un diseño revolucionario que será un referente, no solo por la actividad lúdica y la música, sino por el propio edificio en sí”.

El 2 de octubre empieza también la obra del pantalán 2, “un desafío que supone un reto logístico importante”, afirma Irala. Este pantalán se demolerá y se substituirá por uno nuevo, que será más cómodo para el usuario con instalaciones de agua, luz y otros servicios. El año próximo se realizará la misma operación con el pantalán 1.

Al mismo tiempo, se siguen llevando a cabo otras remodelaciones que mejoran la experiencia en el Puerto. Es el caso de la nueva gasolinera, en cuyo espectacular diseño se han instalado tanques nuevos con mucha más capacidad. O las obras de acceso al contradique y de entrada a la zona de capitanía, donde se han ampliado las zonas verdes con una mejora de la iluminación.

Todas estas obras nuevas tienen una visión sostenible, pues suponen un ahorro de energía, de recursos naturales, sin plásticos, se fabrican con materiales que no requieren mantenimiento y que son sostenibles en el tiempo.

After completion of the work on the new shopping area, the improvements to the leisure zone of Puerto Portals are now focussed on the Panorama building. Parallel dazu finden weitere Aufwertungs- und Verschönerungsarbeiten im Hafen statt. Die Tanks der neuen, spektakulär gestalteten Tankstelle haben z. B. ein erheblich größeres Fassungsvermögen, und am Zugang zum Vordamm sowie am Eingang zum Hafenmeisterbereich werden die Grünflächen vergrößert und besser beleuchtet.

Alle diese Projekte stehen für eine gelebte nachhaltige Vision: Sie sind energieeffizient und ressourcenschonend, verzichten auf Plastik und werden ausschließlich unter Verwendung wartungsfreier, langlebiger Materialien realisiert.

La construcción del nuevo santuario de Son Servera fue abandonada en 1927 por falta de recursos económicos. Nadie podía presagiar entonces que, con su actual aire de ruina exquisita, se convertiría en uno de los monumentos más apreciados (y desconocidos) del modernismo mallorquín. THE UNCOVERED CHURCH. Back then nobody could foresee that, with its present-day appearance of an exquisite ruin, it would become one of the most highly-prized (and least-known) monuments of Mallorcan neogothic. Sagrada Familia ante la presencia de Antonio Gaudí. De aquel encuentro con el famoso arquitecto surgió el encargo de su intervención en la Catedral de Palma.

Para cumplir con este cometido, Gaudí viajó a Mallorca el año 1903. Lo hizo acompañado de uno de sus discípulos aventajados, el arquitecto catalán Juan Rubió Bellver, quien tomaría las riendas del proyecto en 1914. Durante su larga estancia, Rubió se adentró en los ambientes de vanguardia cultural de la isla, entabló una estrecha relación con Campins y recibió diversos encargos, entre ellos la construcción de una nueva iglesia en Son Servera.

Las crónicas de la época cuentan cómo el pueblo entero se implicó en el proyecto con gran ilusión. Y aunque las obras comenzaron a buen ritmo, la construcción se detuvo por falta de recursos económicos en 1927. La frustrada iglesia quedó así descubierta, desprovista de suelo, sin fachada y sin buena parte de los muros laterales.

Ironías del destino, es precisamente este aspecto de ruina exquisita la que convierte a este espacio en uno de lo más originales, románticos y apreciados exponentes del modernismo mallorquín. Sorprendentemente deconocido entre los propios habitantes de la isla.

La Iglesia Nueva de Son Servera está ubicada en la C. Creus, 1 y puede visitarse gratuitamente de lunes a viernes de 9:30 a 14:30.

To complete the task, Gaudí travelled to Mallorca in the year 1903. He did so accompanied by one of his most outstanding disciples, the Catalan architect Juan Rubió Bellver, who would take over the project in 1914. During his long stay here, Rubió penetrated the sphere of the island’s cultural avant-garde, entered into a close relationship with Campins and received several commissions, including the construction of a new church in Son Servera.

The chronicles of the time speak of how the whole village became enthusiastically involved in the project. And although the work began at a good pace, construction was halted due to lack of funding in 1927. The frustrated church was therefore left uncovered, with no floor or façade and lacking most of its side walls.

In an irony of fate, it is precisely this appearance - that of an exquisite ruin - that has made this space one of the most original, romantic and highlyesteemed exponents of Mallorcan Modernism. Surprisingly, the inhabitants of the island themselves are mostly unaware of its existence.

Zur Umsetzung des Projekts reiste Gaudí 1903 in Begleitung des katalanischen Architekten Juan Rubió Bellver nach Mallorca. Juan Rubió war einer der hochbegabten Lehrlinge des Meisters und übernahm 1914 die Zügel des ehrgeizigen Vorhabens. Darüber hinaus erhielt der Architekt diverse Aufträge, u.a. den Bau eines neuen Gotteshauses in Son Servera.

Wie Chronisten berichten, engagierte sich das ganze Dorf begeistert für das Bauvorhaben. Obwohl die Arbeiten zunächst zügig vorangingen, wurden sie 1927 wegen fehlender Gelder eingestellt. Die unvollendete Kirche blieb ohne Bedachung, Boden, Fassade und größtenteils ohne Seitenwände.

Dass die noble Ruine heutzutage als eines der originellsten, romantischsten und geschätztesten Bauwerke des mallorquinischen Jugendstils gilt, ist wohl eine Ironie des Schicksals. Erstaunlicherweise ist vielen Bewohnern Mallorcas die Kirche nicht bekannt.

LA LEYENDA DEL SOLDAT PELUT

VOM SOLDATEN PELUT. Vor über 200 Jahren versteckte sich ein desertierter Schweizer Soldat in einer Höhle unweit des Torrent de Pareis. Dort hinterließ er eine geheimnisvolle Aura, von der sich die Menschen heute noch erzählen.

La tradición popular más extendida, transmitida de generación en generación, dice que el soldat pelut se refugió en los escondidos parajes que envuelven el Torrent de Pareis. Se le desribe como “un individuo vestido con las pieles de los animales que conseguía matar, con barba y pelo largo (de ahí su mote), capaz de saltar de una parte a la otra del Torrent arriesgando su vida con cada salto”.

La referencia más importante que confirma la veracidad de la leyenda es la del investigador P. Rafel Juan, quien a través de fuentes orales asegura que “es normal que algunos desertores se escondieran en lugares recónditos de la Serra de Tramuntana”. En estos casos, las autoridades militares alertaban a los alcaldes de los pueblos con descripciones precisas.

El soldat pelut no se libró de estas advertencias. Un documento de la Real Audiencia de 1804 relata unos hechos que encajan con el protagonista de la leyenda: “Habiendo tenido noticia la real Audiencia que por la comarca y territorio de la parroquia de Escorca se ha visto un hombre desconocido que viste de pieles procedentes de los ganados que mata...”.

Tanto los alcaldes de Escorca como los de Sóller mandaron matar al soldat pelut, y fue “el amo de sa Casa Nova, que se llamaba Pere, quien lo delató más de una vez”, sin éxito. Su triste final llegó un día cuando, mientras robaba cerezas, le dispararon y arrojaron sin vida por un peñasco. Pero el relato de su intrigante figura ha trascendido hasta nuestros días.

The elders of Escorca say that in a place in the Serra de Tramuntana near Torrent de Pareis, Lluc and sa Fosca, known as S’Entreforc, a deserter from the Swiss army lived in a cave, giving rise to the legend of the Cova d’es Soldat Pelut , or Cave of the Hairy Soldier.

The most traditional version of the story, which was passed down through the generations, says that the soldat pelut sought refuge in the remote, hidden places around Torrent de Pareis. He is described as “a man dressed in the skins of the animals he managed to kill, with a long beard and long hair (hence his nickname), who was capable of leaping from one side of the Torrent gulley to the other, risking his life every time he jumped”

The most important reference confirming the veracity of the legend is that of the researcher P. Rafel Juan who, based on oral sources, assures us that “it is logical that deserters would hide in remote places in the Serra de Tramuntana”. In these cases, the military authorities alerted the mayors of the villages, giving them precise descriptions.

The so ldat pelut was no exception to this rule. A Real Audiencia document of 1804 tells a tale that matches the protagonist of the legend: “The Real Audiencia having received notice that, in the district and region of the parish of Escorca, an unknown man has been sighted wearing skins from the livestock he kills...”.

The mayors of both Escorca and Sóller ordered the soldat pelut to be killed on sight, and it was “the tenant farmer of Sa Casa Nova, a man called Pere, who betrayed him on more than one occasion”, albeit without success. The soldier’s sad demise occurred one day when he was shot at as he stole some cherries, his lifeless body falling over a crag down the mountain. Nevertheless, the story of this intriguing figure has filtered down to our era.

Den zuverlässigsten Hinweis auf einen gewissen Wahrheitsgehalt dieser Legende liefert der Forscher P. Rafel Juan, der sich auf mündliche Quellen beruft, wenn er sagt: „Es stimmt, dass sich Deserteure an abgelegenen Orten in der Serra de Tramuntana versteckten.“ In diesen Fällen informierten die Militärbehörden die Dorfbürgermeister und verfassten genaue Personenbeschreibungen. Der Soldat Pelut war dabei keine Ausnahme. Ein Dokument der Real Audiencia aus dem Jahr 1804 verzeichnet einen Fall, der diese Legende bestätigen könnte: „Die real Audiencia wurde darüber informiert, dass in der Region und im Gebiet der Gemeinde Escorca ein Unbekannter gesehen wurde, der sich in die Felle der von ihm getöteten Rinder kleidet...“

Sowohl die Bürgermeister Escorcas als auch Sóllers ordneten die Liquidierung des Soldaten Pelut an, und es war „der Besitzer von sa Casa Nova, der Pere hieß, der ihn mehr als einmal anzeigte“, allerdings ohne Erfolg. Sein trauriges Ende ereilte ihn beim Kirschenstehlen: Er wurde erschossen und tot über eine Klippe geworfen. Aber die Geschichte dieser schillernden Figur lebt bis heute fort.
