SUMAS FIRST NATION IN OPPOSITION TO THE DESTRUCTION OF PEREGRINE FALCON NEST AT QUADLING QUARRY, 40251 QUADLING ROAD, ABBOTSFORD, BC. Sumas First Nation (Semá:th) who are the Wolf People, and within our unceded territory, we have a Peregrine Falcon Nest which is located on Quadling Road. Semá:th have always honoured and protected all living things, and this operating Quarry goes against our most sacred laws as Indigenous People.

“Our previous opposition to the reopening of the Quarry in 2016 has gone unrecognized and to this date is yet to be addressed,” says Tuttle. This is not what Truth and Reconciliation is about. For reconciliation to occur, we will need a response from the Provincial Government and have them provide us with details on why this project is moving forward, when consultation has not occurred. Our First Nation voices are not adequately represented at the decision-making table, free, prior and informed consent has not been achieved and our letters are not being responded to which is discourteous at best.

Sumas First Nation sent a letter dated June 16, 2021 stating our opposition to the Province of British Columbia’s decision to issue a permit for the re-opening of Quadling Quarry which will destroy the nest of a highly successful breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons. Councillor Clint Tuttle stated that this is “the unceded Territory of the Semá:th people. The Within the Semá:th mandate, it states Semá:th people have neverbgiven up that “Through our Declaration in their jurisdiction over this land and 2017, Sumas First Nation reaffirms we are legally bound by Semá:th Law our inherent right to all land, mountains, minerals, trees, lakes, rivers, streams and resources extending through our traditional lands” says Chief Dalto protect what little remains of this area.” As Indigenous People, we have ton Silver. How Canadians can help local businesses succeed (NC) The global pandemic continues to challenge many community business owners to maintain their revenues and keep staff employed, despite provincial lockdowns and restrictions. In fact, according to Canadian Federation of Independent Business, over half of business owners agree that their business model has changed or will significantly change with 45 per cent of business owners having to work significantly longer hours to maintain their business. Fortunately, we can all help to support our favourite small businesses and create a positive impact in our local communities. For those wanting to show their support, here are three simple tips: 1. Support a local store when stocking up on supplies.

2. Send a personalized message or positive review. There’s nothing like sharing a unique and thoughtful message of your positive experience with a small business. Take a moment to share your experience on social platforms such as Facebook or Instagram and recommend them to friends and family. 3. Nominate a small business for financial funding. Many small business owners are running at full speed to meet the demands from the pandemic. They’re often so busy pivoting to new concepts and ways of operating that they don’t have the time to look for investments. Show support by nominating them for funding they might not know about, such as the Purolator True North Small Business Grant Contest. This can help businesses expand and boost the local economy.

Instead of grabbing your bread during a weekly grocery shop, visit a local bakery to get a fresh sourdough loaf or a few delicious pastries, which in Find more information at purolator. turn will support your local economy. com/small-business-grant.

Super thrilled to be sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan : Elli AvrRam

A few weeks ago, actor Elli AvrRam took to her social media to post an endearing image of her holding a film script. Netizens went into a frenzy and she was flooded with comments and asking which film she was shooting for or what script was reading. However, Elli left them waiting for more and did not reveal anything. Turns out that the 'Har Funn Maula' girl, who received rave reviews for her killer moves across legendary superstar Aamir Khan, close on the heels of the much-talked-about 'Malang' opposite Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani, has actually wrapped up the shooting schedule for 'Goodbye'. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Neena Gupta, Pavail Gulati and Rashmika Mandanna. She shared her sentiments on Instagram with a picture she posted on Saturday, posing alongside Bachchan. "Dear fan-fam, here's what's next! Remember the script I was holding, but not sharing? Well, it was 'Goodbye' with one and only amitabhbachchan sir. I still remember how I used to dance on Shava Shava, back home in Sweden with my girlfriends, and today, I'm getting to act with sir!!!! O m g. All I can say is miracles do happen, when you dare to Dream Big. Can't wait for the next schedule to start soon!!! goodbye," the actress wrote

Slight fear when you do stunts is genuinely needed : Rohit Shetty Think Rohit Shetty and you're thinking all things that snub fear on the Bollywood masala screen, from gravity-defying car stunts to high-octane action sequences. The filmmaker, however, feels to pull off a good stunt, "fear is genuinely needed". "I don't fear anything but, yes, there is slight fear when you do stunts and that fear is genuinely needed. It pushes you to take precautions and not be irresponsible. If we are brave, then we often tend to become reckless and not take appropriate care that is needed," Rohit said. The filmmaker, whose calling card on the small screen is hosting the adventure reality show "Khatron Ke Khiladi", says

he is not much of a lover of "Khatra" (danger), though he admits action will always be his first love. "It's not that I am in love with 'khatra' but I am in love with action," he said, about what drives him to be a part of the show, now all set to air its 11th season. Rohit returns as host, and guiding the celebrity contestants facing their fears on the show. "This season is actually special. We have taken the show to a new level, which you will come to know when you watch it. We have made it bigger this time. I have been doing this show for seven years now and the challenge this time was to make it even more engaging," he

Taking life lessons from dad, not acting : Meezaan Jafri After extensive training for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, Malaal, Meezaan Jafri joins a new school of acting and learns spontaneity on the set of Priyadarshan’s Hungama 2. “I remember Priyadarshan advising me not to copy anybody and that is what I have done,” says the one-film-old actor. “It was a different world from Malaal—there were no workshops or homework—I was just thrown into the battlefield. Not much thinking goes on his sets and that is a good thing. [You learn] to

perform on instinct.” Matching his comic timing with co-star Paresh Rawal always made him “nervous”, but the actor says he “tried his best”. “Pareshji will obviously kill it, so I wanted to be at par with him,” adds the actor of the Disney+ Hotstar outing. While he often seeks father Jaaved Jaaferi’s advice, he explains that he never tried to emulate him on screen. “Priyadarshan’s films are situational comedy. I don’t think my father has done these kinds of films. If I get stuck somewhere, I always approach

him, but he never gives me pointers about acting. He has always given me life lessons and that is of more value,” he says.

The laughs on screen may suggest otherwise, but 'Mimi' — which sees Kriti Sanon play a surrogate mother — wasn’t an easy film to make. The Laxman Utekar directorial venture was particularly hard on the lead actor, who had the task of piling on almost 15 kilos to look convincing as an expectant mother. Though they used prosthetics for the baby bump, the director felt the various stages of pregnancy would look authentic on screen if Sanon naturally attained a heavy frame. As part of the first schedule that was conducted in Rajasthan in October 2019, the leading lady shot the portions that showcased her svelte avatar. Post that, the director called for two months’

break to allow her to pile on the pounds. “I’m blessed with a great metabolism. Owing to this, it wasn’t easy for me to put on the kilos,” begins Sanon, who gave up her daily fitness regimen. She remembers how over eight weeks, she feasted to her heart’s content. What initially started out as a foodie’s dream soon became “nauseating”. “From devouring the oiliest possible breakfast, to bingeing on sugary sweets, I had to stuff myself with food. Every two hours, I had to snack on something, even when I was not hungry. After a while, gorging on junk food was nauseating. I wasn’t allowed to do any kind of workout, not even yoga, which made me feel unfit.”

Smart ways to save for a house or condo (NC) With Canada’s housing market hotter than ever, saving up a down payment can feel impossible. But wise spending and saving decisions can add up over time. Here, Vanessa Bowen, money expert and accountant, offers simple yet effective ways to save for the home you’ve had your eye on. Ensure you have a good credit score

It’s money you don’t count on in your day to day anyway, so it’ll be easier to set aside and watch your savings steadily grow. Switch to a no-fee bank account A small step that you can take that will add up to big savings in the long run is switching to a no-fee bank account. The PC Money Account is the bank account reimagined with no monthly fees and opportunities to earn PC Optimum Points on every dollar spent everywhere you shop. Now, instead of having to pay monthly banking fees, you can put your hard-earned money towards saving up for a house or condo.

A better credit score means that you can qualify for lower interest rates and loans that you may require when investing in a future property. Working to improve your overall credit score, such as by avoiding late bill payments, will help make your savings go further as you look towards purchasing the house or condo of your dreams. Cut down on unnecessary spending Contribute lump-sum payments to your Try cutting back on expenses such as savings takeout food and shopping for things Large annual payments such as a work bonus or your tax return can be added as lump-sum contributions to your savings. Contributing larger sums helps you reach your end-goal more quickly, so remember to save these payments.

you may not actually need, like subscription services. Instead, put this money, which could potentially add up to thousands each year, towards a significant investment opportunity, such as a future home.

Helping our families adjust as we return to work (NC) As many of us get ready to head back to the office and the country’s re-opening continues, you may be looking for ways to help the whole family adjust. Here are some helpful tips and resources to turn to for a seamless transition. Get everyone organized Start by getting organized and decluttering your space to prepare yourself for the back-to-work season. If you’re working from home, this will help you feel more put together, but if you are returning to the office this will act as a transition period to help you get your bearings. Sticking to a daily routine will help you make room for all of the important things you need to get done during the day and can help contribute to increased productivity and healthy habits.

Education roundtable defines antiracism action plan A community roundtable will bring together nearly 40 community organizations, rightsholders and education partners to address racism in education and help shape the provincial K-12 Anti-Racism in Education Action Plan. “Through the community roundtable, we will listen and learn how to build more inclusive and supportive school communities and programs and develop concrete actions that will inspire staff and students to create systemic change,” said Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Education. “When we work together with rightsholders, education partners and community organizations through an open and ongoing dialogue, we can address intolerance and colonial bias and build welcoming and inclusive learning environments for students and staff.” Fighting racism is more urgent than ever, given escalating racism and intolerance in B.C. in the past year.

“By teaching our children the colonial history of B.C. and giving them the tools to tackle racism, we are building welcoming and inclusive communities for everyone,” said Rachna Singh, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives, who will participate in the roundtable. “Indigenous peoples and Black-led community organizations have been leading anti-racism work within education for a long time, and I am eager to listen to them and support their voices.” The ministry is working with teachers and community partners to create an inventory of K-12 anti-racism and diverse cultural experiences, learning and teaching resources with a particular focus on the B.C. context. This is complementary to B.C.’s K-12 provincial curriculum, which directly supports students in their growth. The personal and social core competencies include the awareness, understanding and appreciation of connections among people and encourages the study of topics related to diversity and inclusion through the investigation of local contexts and student interests. Through the action plan, a minister’s student advisory council will be formed, and youth engagement events will be planned throughout the province.

The July 15, 2021, virtual meeting with breakout sessions will allow participants from throughout the province to discuss topics, themes and actions to address racism, and support inclusivity and equality. It will build on the feedback provided in the first education roundtable on anti-racism, which was held in July 2020 and helped form the foundation for the draft action plan that will be presented and discussed In the past year, the ministry has exfor final input. panded its Expect Respect and a Safe The five key elements of the draft Education (Erase) strategy to include anti-racism action plan are provincial Erase racism resources and information leadership, system leadership, system for students and parents. Training has support, workforce development and also been included in the strategy for raising awareness. The action plan is school districts to specifically address expected to be launched this year. racism in schools.

Plans you had put in place could be disrupted by unforseen circumstances. This may force you to consider other ways or opportunities that will allow you to cut back on some of the expense. Someone else could decide it is time to move on from any situation that has been primarily social because it is time to become more serious.

You can come up with some inventive ideas or solutions to any problems you may have been trying to sort out. This could involve analysing your level of responsibility and whether you think this is what you really want. Any risks you feel you want to take from now to mid August need to have a practical undertone.

Taking it easy will be difficult as frustrations can arise when it comes to obligations. This can involve finances – it is no time to take any risks and hope for the better. You may not like to look of the level of responsibility that could be attached to situations you want to develop in the future. It might be time to trim down plans.

You could begin to see your future from a different perspective and this could be because you can see how something you have always wanted but perhaps thought impossible, could be accomplished. It can be a matter of altering your priorities and not attempting to get too much done at once. Take one step at a time in your mind.

It is better to handle things for yourself – greater clarity can begin to emerge. You need to work out where you have support and where you don’t. This will require you to pay close attention in relation to any discussions and then go away and think about it. That way you will become aware of those that won’t fit in with your wishes

Venus, the planet of peace, balance and harmony moves into your sign where it will remain until 16th August. This can immediately make you aware of any areas where too much is expected of you, or what may become too much to handle in the future. It will be up to you to lower the level. You may not be listened to, so persist.

effort to mid August to alter any routines that seem to have established themselves that have become too much. You need to be authoritative.

to obligations that could be tied into something that seems more free and easy or pleasure based. It is better to narrow down what needs to take priority.

Don’t be tempted to increase your commitments – you need to go the other way to mid August. Someone else can be full of ideas that will put more pressure on you rather than on them. They certainly have faith in your ability to create the structure and to put the details in place but this is no reason to wear yourself out.

You are in a good position, from now to mid August, to make future plans with a sense of peace about what is realistic and manageable. This may encourage you to immediately drop some ideas you have been considering. Your ability to tune into what someone else is really looking for puts you in a good position to ask the right questions.

Someone else may begin to become mysterious, which could ongoing until mid August. You could feel they are acting out one thing but feeling something else. This is not a time to spend without thinking. You need to analyse the need to do this and how this might affect regular commitments you already have in place.

You could feel luckier than you have in while because of things going your way without difficulty. You can expect greater response from others from now to mid August, though there could be a level of caution attached. You could feel you have seen another side of a person this week. Take your time in processing this.
