Your Airbags Weren’t Deployed ADULTS WHO WERE HOMELESS During a Car Accident: Can You AS CHILDREN STRUGGLE TO Sue the Car’s Manufacturer? MAINTAIN HOUSING, EVEN WITH SUPPORT

Airbags are supposed to protect you if you are involved in a motor vehicle accident. They should quickly deploy to protect your upper body and head from hitting the steering wheel or inside of the vehicle. When airbags fail, you may suffer more severe injuries that would otherwise have been prevented such as brain injury or a concussion.

Lawsuits Against Airbag Manufacturers If airbags do not deploy or fail to work as expected during a motor vehicle accident, you may be able to sue the manufacturer for personal injury compensation. There are many reasons that an airbag can fail, including faulty design, errors in manufacturing or producing the airbag, and use of defective or poor-quality components in the airbag system (e.g., sensors, modules, electrical parts/wiring). Courts can hold manufacturers liable to pay compensation for personal injury caused by negligent design, manufacturing defects, and/or failure to warn of dangers. These types of claims are highly complex and you should expect that the manufacturer will aggressively defend itself against all claims. If you are considering a lawsuit against an airbag manufacturer, it is highly recommended that you get advice as soon as possible from an experienced personal injury lawyer.

MICROPLASTICS IN BELUGAS WORKED THEIR WAY UP FOOD CHAIN, SFU RESEARCHERS FIND Microplastics are being found in even the most remote waters, say Simon Fraser University researchers who studied how the particles ended up in the stomachs of beluga whales through prey. A new study published in the journal Science of the Total Environment looked at five species of Arctic fish known to be eaten by beluga whales. Of the fish studied, 21 per cent were found to have microplastic particles in their gastrointestinal tracts. Coupled with the findings of the team’s previous work looking at the amount of microplastic found in beluga stomachs, researchers estimate that the whales ingest upwards of 145,000 particles of microplastics a year.

oceans is an emerging environmental concern and Moore says the studies show how nowhere is immune. “We use so much plastic in our society, and when improperly discarded they break apart into smaller and smaller pieces, and that makes them easy to be transported in ocean environments,” she says. “The results of these studies just further point to the reality that microplastics don’t stay in one place. They move through the air, the water, they’re in sediment and now we understand they’re moving through the food chain.”

Here2Talk: Free counselling services for post-secondary students

In advance of reading week at B.C.’s colleges and universities, students throughout the Province are reminded that mental health support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week via Here2Talk, a free online and virtual counselling service.

that free, confidential, and immediate counselling is available over the phone, the downloadable Here2Talk app, or through online chat sessions, the Province is relaunching Here2Talk, a provincewide promotional campaign.

“Studying for mid-term exams, finding housing and employment during the pandemic and adjusting to new social and academic settings are just some of the challenges students are facing right now,” said Anne Kang, Minister of Education and Skills Training. “That is why the Here2Talk campaign is so important – it lets students know that supports are available to them 24/7 on multiple platforms and in many languages. The campaign also reminds people that their mental health is just as important as everything else.” To ensure new and returning students are aware

The program is available to all partand full-time students registered in a B.C. college, university, institute, or trades program, whether they are in Canada or abroad. As part of the campaign, some materials will be provided in languages, including Mandarin and Punjabi, to help spread messaging about mental health supports. The program is a component of A Pathway to Hope, government’s 10-year vision to make the system of mental-health and addictions care better for people no matter where they live in B.C.

As talks continue at the WTO in Geneva to consider temporarily waiving COVID-19 patents, NDP MP Don Davies urged the Canadian government to strongly support this measure. “We’ve seen the incredible impact that vaccines have had in the fight against COVID-19 in developed countries, and much of the research for COVID vaccines has been publicly funded,” said Davies.

The Liberal government has thus far refused to do so. On October 6, Benjamin Blanco, Minister of Foreign Trade and Integration, Ministry of Foreign Relations for Bolivia, responded to Canada’s failure to approve the manufacture of 15 million doses of Johnson and Johnson’s vaccine destined for Bolivia at Biolyse Pharma, a St. Catharines-based pharmaceutical company. He said that he is “disappointed” in the Canadian government’s response and believes that Canada lacks the “political will” to waive vaccine patents.

“Yet many countries in the developing world have been unable to access vaccines due to global patent regulations. This is unacceptable not just from a humanitarian standpoint, but also a practical one, as we know that without a coordinated global vac- “The fight against COVID-19 is cination effort, new COVID-19 a global battle and we all benefit variants will continue to develop.” when any human is vaccinated,” said Davies. “This is a matter of US President Joe Biden threw basic equity and public health. his support behind the patent “It’s time for the Canadian govwaiver initiative on May 5 of ernment to adopt a strong stance this year. Sohi told B’nai Brith prior to the election he would mandate a community-driven coalition to identify solutions for hate- and race-based violence within 100 days.

“We wish the mayors-elect productive mandates,” said Michael Mostyn, Chief Executive Officer of B’nai Brith Canada. “It is our intention to work closely with the mayors’ offices and the municipal governments to push back against hate in Alberta.”

Gondek did not return the B’nai Brith survey sent to her, saying she was squeezed for time.

Development of a new arts and LIFECARE HOMEOPATHY UNIT OF NATURAL HOMEOPATHIC SOLUTIONS INC. culture centre

ALL MAJOR COMPANIES INSURANCES COVERED The District of Mission has provided the Mission Arts Council (MAC) with a commitment to allow the development of an arts and culture centre at 7560 Hurd Street, the site of the former Mission Lawn Bowling Club. The Lawn Bowling Club will be relocating indoors to the new Boswyk Seniors Activity Centre at 7682 Grand Street soon. Mayor Paul Horn said, “The Mission Arts Council has been contributing to our community for many years, and they need a home of their own. This is an important move by Council to better support and encourage the growth of arts and culture in the District of Mission.” The MAC was seeking a larger site to enable them to increase programming, which could not be met at their current leased building on 1st Avenue and they approached the District for a potential location. After initial discussions with District staff and a review of the needs of the MAC, Council endorsed a recommendation to enter into a Letter of Intent with the MAC to allow for the future development of a community arts and culture centre at the Hurd Street location. While funding has not yet been secured for the new space and the formal agreement is being prepared, this represents a very significant first step that will allow the MAC and their Board of Directors to seek out potential funding partners and grants. Mission Arts Council President Kelly Ridley expressed gratitude to the District of Mission on behalf of the MAC Board and members and looks forward to working collaboratively with the District on all aspects of the project including the funding, design, and construction of the facility.

Joe Bring, Executive Director of the Lotus Humanitarian Society (“Lotus”) began a Community Partnership in October 2018 with Pastor Ward Draper, Executive Director of The 5 and 2 Ministries (The 5 and 2) in Abbotsford, BC. The 5 and 2, as they are fondly nicknamed by the homeless community they serve, started 16 years ago with Ward dropping off sandwiches to homeless camps to currently running a full-time shelter and year-round community services. In addition to managing this continually growing ministry, he is also the full time Pastor of The 5 and 2 Church, another piece of this growing organization.

Starting in 2018, Lotus started attending the Wednesday and Saturday evening meal services beside the Archway Community Services property that were organized by The 5 and 2. Joe and his brother-in-law Aaron handed out items that had been gathered or purchased at local dollar stores. One year of building a stronger B.C. for everyone As the one-year anniversary approaches of the majority mandate, Premier John Horgan and the B.C. government are delivering on commitments to build a stronger B.C. for everyone. From supporting people with the BC Recovery Benefit to the largest ICBC rate savings ever, the government has already made a difference in people’s lives during the pandemic and beyond. “It’s an understatement to say people have been through a lot over the past year. Even as the future feels uncertain for many, I want British Columbians to know: we will always keep working for you,” Premier Horgan said. “We’re going to keep delivering real progress on helping families with the cost of living, improving the services people need and supporting people to build a secure future.” The government has taken historic steps to keep people healthy and safe through the global pandemic by: helping more than 2.7 million British Columbians with the BC Recovery Benefit that provided up to $1,000 for families and single parents, and up to $500 for individuals; getting British Columbians vaccinated in the largest immunization plan in B.C.’s history, with approximately 90% of eligible people receiving at least one dose; keeping people safe during the pandemic with $900 million in new funding for testing, contact tracing and personal protective equipment; and embarking on permanent paid sick leave for all, with

British Columbians currently having their say on shaping the plan to ensure people do not have to choose between going to work sick or losing wages. Providing better care for people in their communities is critical to building a stronger, healthier province. Progress to date includes: delivering more urgent and primary care centres and additional primary care networks throughout B.C., making it easier and faster to see a doctor, nurse or other health-care professional at 24 centres in communities around B.C., with more coming soon; building, modernizing and expanding hospitals throughout the province, including Surrey, Richmond, Vancouver, Dawson Creek, Stuart Lake and the Cowichan Valley; reducing wait times by optimizing surgical and diagnostic space and teams, and adding additional MRI scanners where they are needed most, so B.C. can keep pace with the demand for new surgeries and diagnostic scans; funding levelled-up wages for workers in long-term care and assisted living; and accelerating B.C.’s response to the opioid crisis across the full continuum of care: prevention, harm reduction, safe prescription medications, treatment and recovery. On top of scrapping bridge tolls and removing Medical Services Plan premiums that made life unaffordable, the government has acted this year to help families make ends meet by:

delivering the biggest ICBC rate reduction in history, saving B.C. drivers an average of $400 and providing significantly better care for people injured in a crash, while providing hundreds of dollars in rebates to ensure ICBC savings go back into the pockets of British Columbians; saving families up to $672 a year per child with free public transit for kids 12 and younger; building 9,000 new homes people can afford through Budget 2021, as part of the government’s 10-year Homes for B.C. plan; protecting renters by freezing rent increases until the end of 2021 and limiting future increases to the rate of inflation, while eliminating illegal renovictions; helping those who are struggling most by delivering the largest-ever permanent increase to income assistance and disability assistance rates, and a 53% increase to income assistance since 2017; helping 80,000 low-income seniors by increasing the Senior’s Supplement for the first time; and making it easier to find affordable, quality child care through the 10-year Childcare BC plan by doubling the number of $10-a-day child care spaces, giving early childhood educators a well-deserved raise and continuing to build and expand spaces.

launching a longoverdue review to eliminate outdated, inefficient foss il fu el subsidies and modernizing the royalty system so it can help reduce emissions and deliver a fair return for British Columbians; working with BC Hydro to make it easier and more affordable for British Columbians to switch from fossil fuels to clean electricity; bringing together innovators, industry, government and experts to help fight the climate crisis through B.C.’s new Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy; supporting B.C. shipyards to build capacity and become increasingly competitive with investments to support more shipbuilding, refit, repair and maintenance in B.C.; and

setting sectoral targets to guide the reducThe government is creating more good tion of carbon pollution, keeping governjobs for British Columbians in a clean ment accountable as it works with each energy future by: sector of the economy to lower emissions creating more than 85,000 jobs and while remaining globally competitive as strengthening communities around B.C. part of North America’s most ambitious with record infrastructure investments; climate plan, CleanBC.

You could feel you are being overlooked. Something that was discussed last week that seemed firm could now become less so. It would be best to allow matters to float until mid October. Then you can rely on promises being kept. All you can do right now is put your priorities forward. You could benefit from recommendation.

Involvement with others can be easygoing and pleasant, even though it may be difficult to work out where things stand. You can take the opportunity to question future possibilities but expect difficulty when it comes to getting some straight answers. You must remain focussed on routine obligations already in place.

Somebody else may decide to put something you were looking forward to, associated with leisure or pleasure, on hold for the moment. This is likely to eventually go ahead. From mid October onwards will be more reliable. Future prospects can be stable, though you should not try to do too much at once.

Anything you want to restructure that requires agreement from somebody else could have some hold-ups to mid October. This does not mean that your ideas are not accepted but rather they feel they need time to further contemplate your suggestions. Meanwhile focus on enjoying any social opportunities this week.

Something might need another look, especially when it comes to the finer details. You could discover details you have previously missed. You could also become aware of structuring matters that would bring greater balance, agreement, even pleasure when it comes to things that need to be managed on a regular basis.

Think twice before you spend money on anything that might give you pleasure to have but don’t really need. This might include keeping an eye on your daily spending. You will get greatest pleasure from communication with others that is creatively or spiritually orientated, even sharing opinions on what you have watched or read.

You could realise there could be better ways of putting things in place. Anything you have organised or planned related to home or family matters might need to be altered, especially if you realise it is not suiting you entirely on a personal level. There is no rush to have this sorted right now. You have got until mid October.

Don’t overlook something that doesn’t seem right when it comes to somebody else. If they don’t want to go along with you they are unlikely to be upfront about it. You could eventually discover the fact. There is a lot going on behind the scenes. Best you be patient, as matters will eventually surface. Enjoy what you can right now.

Any situation involving you with a group of people could have its challenges. Involved in this can be people saying or promising one thing but then doing another. The lack of control you have can be very frustrating. You will be on the same wavelength with somebody so all is not lost. Work through it to mid October.

You should not waste time, up to mid October in clearing up any work that you have got behind with or sorting out matters that you decided to leave until later. You can be busy socially, not because you have necessarily planned it that way but rather that it falls into place through circumstance. Be sensible with money matters.

Initiating future plans involving somebody else can be easy. Don’t try to do too much, too soon though. A slow steady pace will be more successful. Part of this can include keeping some of your thoughts under wraps at the moment. You need to see how things unfold to mid October when future possibilities can become clear.

Guard against having a vision of the future, which is unrealistic when it comes to the input or involvement of other people in any of the circumstances. There could be some tension between what your priorities are and the intentions they have. Moving forward on this with any certainty may not be possible until mid October onwards.

Mithila Palkar goes big on 'Little Things' co-star Dhruv Sehgal Actress Mithila Palkar has talked about her pure bond of friendship with her ‘Little Things’ co-actor Dhruv Sehgal. She says she has an amazing friendship off-screen with him that translates onto the screen. Mithila Palkar said: “I always laugh when I get this question. People always assume we’re together or have been together in the past, and that’s not true. The reason we’re able to portray that so well on-screen is because Dhruv and I have an amazing friendship off-screen.” Directed by Ruchir Arun and Pranjal Dua, the series’ fourth and final season is set to drop. ‘Little Things’ is a celebration of all the subtle things. The adulthood, the maturity and above all the little moments that truly make a relationship beautiful. Talking more about her co-actor, Mithila Palkar added: “We love to goof around and irritate each other and laugh a lot, and that’s a lot of what Dhruv and Kavya do as well. We’ve built a really strong bond over the years and have found our own explosive chemistry through playing Dhruv and Kavya and I’m so glad people love this relationship just as much as we do!” Season 4 celebrates Dhruv and Kavya’s individuality and relationship as they grow together amidst their highs and lows. While they make the tricky transition from young love to a mature relationship, audiences will witness Dhruv and Kavya navigate questions around commitment, health, their ambitions and family

Playing MMA fighter for the first time on screen : Vidyut

As is the case with most Vidyut Jammwal-starrers, Sanak sees the one-man army take on a gang of baddies. The focus naturally is on the leading man’s action prowess as he brings balletic action and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) to the screen. “I am playing an MMA fighter for the first time. So, [I had] the responsibility of displaying MMA perfectly on screen. Our cinema is watched by the international audience. For me, it’s a huge achievement when global action reviewers say that the stunts are flawless and of international standard,” begins the actor. The Kanishk Varma-directed venture sees the actor play a common man whose wife, along with other patients, is held hostage in a hospital. In a Jammwal-led film, stunts are never restricted to runof-the-mill kicks and punches. Here too, he says he had the responsibility to raise the bar with the elaborate set-pieces. “I prep more than anybody else [I know] and invest a lot of time to get [each sequence] right. For instance, one of the scenes was set in a physiotherapy room. We were wondering how we can do something different [within the set-up]. I thought, why can’t we do something with the stability ball? That’s how the scene was choreographed around the ball. A lot of effort has gone into making it look effortless.”

Sports stars are actually the real heroes for me : Taapsee Artiste should not be seen from the lens of gender : Bhumi Actress Taapsee Pannu, who plays a sprinter in her latest film ‘Rashmi Rocket’, says that she is always in awe of sports personalities and that she feels they are the real heroes. She candidly revealed that squash is her favourite sport to play. When it comes to her favourite sportsperson she said, “I don’t think I can choose because I am in so much awe of these sportspeople, they are actually the real heroes for me. I follow them more than I follow any other profession, or I don’t think I consider any other profession as heroic as representing the country!” Taapsee also confessed that running comes naturally to her. She was an athlete in school and would run in 100, 200 and 400-metre races. For her role, she had to learn some professional sprinting techniques. Next, she had to unlearn and readopt the right technique to keep her free of injuries. When asked about her most favourite memory on sets, actress Taapsee Pannu reminisces, “Once when I was sprinting during shots and there were real athletes, we had called who were there running with me,

Does gender play a role in determining merit? Not at all, most would argue. Which is probably why the Berlin International Film Festival recently awarded its first genderneutral acting prize to Maren Eggert for her performance in I’m Your Man. The decision to have male and female actors compete in the same category was soon welcomed by the Gotham Awards. Starting with the upcoming November gala, the New York-based award ceremony will hand out trophies for the Best Lead Performance

category. Closer home, Bhumi Pednekar believes Indian film awards should take a cue from their international counterparts, and reassess their terminologies as well. “Over the past year, it was encouraging to see award functions do away with gendered awards. Even in our context, if strong enough roles continue to be written for women and other genders, we can eventually reach a space where we have genderneutral awards.”

My line-up is mix of masala commercial, genre-bending films : Arjun

who were probably watching the training…the compliments from them that I did really look like a real athlete were the most cherished ones coming from the people who do it as a profession.”

Actor Arjun Kapoor, who has three films - 'Ek Villain', 'Kuttey' and the recently announced 'The Lady Killer' lined up, is happy that filmmakers now are wanting to cast him in their "eclectic vision". He says his upcoming work is a great mix of masala commercials and genre bending entertainers.Arjun is proud of his slate and credits the success of 'Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar' (SAPF) for changing the course of his career. He said: "'Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar' has been a game-changer for my career. It presented me in a radical way which audiences had never seen before and I'm deeply thankful that they loved my performance

in the film." He added: "The success of 'SAPF' has opened several doors for me with filmmakers wanting to cast me in their eclectic vision. 'The Ladykiller' and 'Kuttey' are prime examples of how the industry is looking at me today and as an actor, I couldn't be more fortunate!" Speaking about his next releases, Arjun is "excited" about his line-up."As it's a great mix of masala commercial films like 'Ek Villain Returns' and also genre-bending entertainers like 'Kuttey' and 'The Lady Killer'. I have a few more announcements lined up and they are all equally diverse from a script point of view." Arjun will be seen in Mohit Suri's 'Ek Villain Returns', Vishal Bhardwaj's son Aasmaan's debut directorial 'Kuttey' and Ajay Bahl's 'The Lady Killer'.
