FIFA World Cup 26™ Vancouver Official Host City Brand launched

Vancouver’s FIFA World Cup 26™ Official Host City Brand was unveiled, marking the beginning of the city’s journey to hosting the biggest single sport event in history in a little over three years’ time.

“As we prepare to kick off the FIFA World Cup in 26, we’re incredibly excited to showcase Vancouver to the world. Our city’s natural beauty, vibrant culture, and long history of supporting sport and major events will make the World Cup a truly unforgettable experience,” said Mayor Ken Sim. “The launch of this brand is just the beginning -- we invite all those across the city, province, and country to join us in the excitement of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Each of the 16 Host Cities is rolling out its own unique FIFA World Cup 26™ Official Brand look and feel. Vancouver’s design showcases vibrant, natureinspired colours on dynamic patterns that represent the majestic mountains and the waters that surround the city.

“The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be a festival of football that will take the sport to new heights in the Concacaf region and beyond,” said Victor Montagliani, FIFA Vice-President and Concacaf President. “With 104 matches to be played across 16 cities in Canada, Mexico and the USA, it provides a tremendous opportunity to engage people and bring new fans to the beautiful game.”

Starting today and leading up to 26, Vancouverites and visitors to the city will be able to see the excitement visually at many places across the city.

FIFA World Cup™ unites billions of people around the world. In 2026, we will have the opportunity to highlight this amazing city, share the city’s unique diversity and show our inclusive Team Vancouver spirit.

“Today’s unveiling of Vancouver’s Official Host City Brand is another exciting step bringing us closer to the big event,” said Premier David Eby.

“Vancouver and British Columbia are ready to take part in the world’s most popular sports tournament. We are eager to once again welcome the world by showing all British Columbia has to offer.”

“It is so exciting to have the opportunity to host this incredible event in B.C.,” said Lana Popham, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. “This brand launch serves as an important milestone, as we start counting down the days to the tournament. Hosting will allow us to profile and promote BC as a prime destination like no other, boosting tourism activity throughout the province for years to come.”

FIFA World Cup 26™ will benefit the local economy significantly. Preliminary estimates by Destination BC and BC Stats show that the tournament could generate more than $1 billion for BC’s tourism sector during and in the five years following the tournament and an incremental 900,000 additional visitors to the province.

“We can’t wait to welcome the world to BC Place Vancouver for FIFA World Cup 2026 in three years’ time, we have a spectacular stadium unlike any other that is perfectly suited for the beautiful game.” said Chris May, General Manager at BC Place. “We believe Vancouver’s Host City Brand does a great job of highlighting BC Place Vancouver as a unique stadium nestled in the heart of our beautiful city.”

Premier’s statement on Komagata Maru anniversary

Premier David Eby has issued the following statement on the 109th anniversary of the Komagata Maru’s arrival in British Columbia:

“This year marks the 109th anniversary of the steamship Komagata

Maru dropping anchor in Vancouver harbour. The 376 Sikh, Muslim and Hindu passengers sought a better life in Canada. They shared an ideal of creating a new life here for themselves and their families.

“When they should have been welcomed, they were instead met by hostility and prejudice. Canadian immigration officials refused to let them leave the boat. The passengers were confined to the ship for two months, during which supplies of food and even water were restricted, making conditions intolerable. After two months, the Komagata Maru departed for Asia under escort of a naval cruiser.

“Among the passengers were students, labourers and former soldiers. The

lives they hoped to build in this land and their contributions to our society will go forever unknown.

“The Province of British Columbia formally apologized for its role in discriminating against the Komagata Maru passengers in 2008.

“Last year, the government funded the South Asian Canadian Legacy Project to raise awareness about the contributions of South Asian Canadians to our province’s culture, history

and economy. Meanwhile, consultations are ongoing for the creation of a museum to share and preserve the stories, artifacts and documents of South Asian Canadians.

“Our government introduced an AntiRacism Data Act last year, the first of its kind in Canada. It is yet another important step toward dismantling systemic racism as we build a more equitable, inclusive and welcoming province for everyone.”

The Patrika Auto Review: 2023 Hyundai Palisade Urban Review

This Family SUV is Impressive!

There are a few changes to Hyundai’s flagship Palisade luxury orientated SUV. It has always been a high value, nicely equipped family vehicle at a competitive price. New touches for 2023 include a wider cascading grille set off by attractive new vertical LED composite lights plus a styled lower front skid plate element. At the rear,

Surround Sound system, 12.30-inch, Colour, Touchscreen, Voice Activating System, Audio, Phone, Navigation, Carplay, Android, USB, Bluetooth, and AM/FM, Satellite Radio. The Palisade offers drivers the ability to start the vehicle via remote key fob or via the Blue Link app.

The Palisade has a great looking in-

new vertical LED tail lamps and lower fascia skid plate details are present, while the new 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels elegantly profile the substantial premium look. The cabin also gets several new touches, with different material designs and features. Entrylevel models are better equipped with a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen as opposed to the outgoing model’s eight-inch setup.

Power is provided by an Atkinson cycle 3.8-liter V6, dual CVVT, direct-injected engine producing 291 horsepower. The transmission is an eight-speed automatic unit with a multi-plate torque converter and Hyundai’s HTRAC® four-wheel-drive fitted as standard to AWD models.

The Palisade is offered in a range of trims — Essential ($41,399), Preferred ($46,399), Luxury ($50,599) and the new Ultimate Calligraphy ($54,899). We tested the mid-range Urban edition priced from $52,599 - $53,699 that arrives in either a seven- or 8-seater version and with the option of All Wheel Drive.

The Urban Edition features; as standard Sunroof, Smart Key includes Keyless Entry, Keyless Start heated Steering Wheel, Climate Control A/C, Auto, 3 Zones, Remote App Control, power synthetic Leather heated and ventilated front seats, rear Captain’s heated seats and Fold Flat Third Row Seats. As standard is a 12-speaker, Harman/Kardon,

terior, with premium quality styling and materials. The center console has an updated “floating” design with good storage capacity. New expanded ambient lighting sets varying moods in the Palisade highlighted by a mix of high-quality contrasting materials throughout the cabin.

Overall, the Palisade has wide supportive seats, and a spacious and comfortable front and rear cabin with lots of storage nooks and bins for those long family trips. You also gain multiple USB plugs (seven in total) plus a wireless charge pad up front in the top trim. Access to the small adult or kids sized third-row seats is much easier in the Palisade with one touch folding second row seats, Rear second row passengers also gain built-in sun shades, and heated and cooled seat functions. In terms of cargo space, the hands-free power liftgate offers a cavernous area when the second- and third-row seats are folded.

On the road, the Palisade is impressively quiet. The eight-speed automatic shifts seamlessly and engine noise is muted thanks to the good under-hood insulation, and special sound-deadening carpets. The powertrain tuning delivers smooth linear response and impressive acceleration. Maximum Power from the V6 is 291 hp @ 6000 rpm with max Torque at 262 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm. The Palisade handles and brakes very well with no issues. Drivers can tune the Palisade by choosing

different driving modes, via a dial that can select Normal, Comfort and a firmer Sport mode, plus Eco and a “Smart” setting that automatically adapt to your driving style. There are also “terrain” settings, for Snow, Mud, and Sand –selected via a rotary knob that adjusts the AWD system’s parameters.

You are in serious good luck if you tow a boat or trailer, the Palisade offers an excellent standard towing capacity of 5,000 lb, (2,268 kg), which is top of its class. All Palisades come with a two hitch, Trailer Sway Control, prewiring, and a heavy-duty transmission oil cooler as standard equipment, while an auto-levelling rear suspension and a Class III receiver hitch are optional. Fuel economy is rated at 11.2 L/100Km combined, 12.6 city and 9.5 highway.

The Palisade is extremely high on safety, and equipped with Hyundai’s full active safety suite, including lane-keeping assist, forward collision avoidance, plus blind spot monitoring

with instrument cluster view, occupant monitoring system, and rear Safe Exit Assist system.

I just have to recommend the Palisade very highly. Even the base model is very well equipped and superb value. Quality is high, and the cabin is brilliant in execution. Downsides are few, the V6 can be thirsty and there is no Hybrid or All- electric version as yet. However, with a versatile roomy interior layout and the best towing capacity in its class, the Palisade is one heck of a good buy for any active family. Highly recommended.

Parliamentary secretary’s statement on Anti-Racism Awareness Week

Mable Elmore, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives, has released the following statement in recognition of Anti-Racism Awareness Week:

“Anti-Racism Awareness Week, from May 22-26, 2023, is an opportunity for British Columbians to learn about B.C.’s diverse culture and history, and to consider how they can help fight discrimination, racism and hate – not just this week, but every day of the year. Racism has no place in B.C. and by joining together to be champions for

equity, we can make B.C. a better, more inclusive place for everyone.

“There are many ways for individuals to learn more and to get involved in addressing racism and discrimination in their local communities. The Resilience BC Anti-racism Network provides educational opportunities, tools and resources for their communities.

“Our schools are making important changes to help fight racism and discrimination. Earlier this year, we launched the K-12 Anti-Racism Action

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN

REQUEST FOR A NEW FACILITY AUTHORIZATION

Address: 63 West Railway Avenue

Civic Address:

Parcel 36, Plan NWP65456, Section 2,Township 16, Land District 36, Lot D, Plan NWP78494

Land Owner: Jason Davis Holdings

Operator: Conscious Waste Solution

PO Box 38104 RPO Morgan Heights, Surrey BC V3Z 6R3

Description:

This facility will be complete the sorting and temporary storage of recyclable construction waste. Sorted material will be loaded and transported from site to a recycling or disposal facility.

Any concerns should be addressed in writing to the FVRD.

Plan to put tools and resources into the hands of parents, teachers and students to better equip them to be active agents of change in their communities.

“Government is also tackling systemic racism through legislation. Introduced in 2022, the Anti-Racism Data Act makes it possible to collect race-based data to help identify gaps and barriers to accessing government programs and services. The next step is to build on this historic act by introducing broader anti-racism legislation in 2024, which will hold government accountable for

addressing racism and discrimination. This summer, the public will be invited to participate in an online questionnaire that will help inform the new legislation.

“Please join me in celebrating AntiRacism Awareness Week by finding your own way to help address racism. Whether it’s challenging a discriminatory practice in your organization or talking at the dinner table about different cultures and perspectives, together we can make B.C. a more equitable and fair place for everyone.”

Shraddha scores blazing red in ‘ lie detector test ’

Being a big-time foodie, Vada Pav is that one food that is at the top of Shraddha Kapoor’s favorite food list. Her love for Vada Pav is certainly so evident that she herself cannot resist and which gets well justified when she is asked if she would marry someone who doesn’t love vada pav, and the lie detector machine says it all. Shraddha gives a hilarious answer when she is asked if she would marry someone who doesn’t love Vada Pav. However, the intensity of the moment holds at this point to hear what Shraddha would answer, and the actress surprisingly said YES, but that’s where the lie detector machine detects her lie and horns the red buzzer. That is when the actress acceptedthat her match with

Vada Pav is something made in heaven that she also cannot deny and finally said ‘I don’t think so’. The Stree actress and her love for vada pav have become an undeniable fact that is well witnessed from time to time. On her birthday also, the actress relished the special occasion by distributing vada pav to her fans. Shraddha has been garnering a lot of love for her performance in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The actress is all over the internet ever since the film was released on OTT.

I want to focus on feature films : Kirti

Of late, Kirti Kulhari was seen in a number of web shows. The actress who won the limelight after her role in Uri: The Surgical Strike took a plunge in to the OTT space and did series like Human, Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors, Four More Shots Please! While they did win her praises from the audience the actress tells us she wants to focus more on feature films now. She says, “I want to take a break from doing web shows. I have done a lot of series and now I want to focus more on feature films.” Sharing her reasons, she says, “Series are very

exhaustive. Shooting for one web series feels like shooting for 3-4 films together. Honestly, feature films are my most favourite medium. I love telling stories through feature films.” She adds, “In the last three-four years I have managed to do some of the best work on OTT. My web shows made a mark in such a strong way that I feel that I don’t need to keep on doing this again and again. I can always comeback to it. But for now, feature films on OTT or theatrical releases are my first love which I would like to do.” Kirti will soon be seen in Nayeka, a film that she produced and also in Khichdi 2. The actress had made her Bollywood debut with Khichdi: The Movie in 2010 and now is really looking forward to the release of this film, which brings her back to the comedy genre.

The Pink actress took to Instagram and shared a video showing how she achieved her desired body. Sharing the video, she wrote in the caption, “I always saw super bodies on big athletic wear brand billboards and wondered if that’s really possible for someone like me to achieve that kind of body when that’s not the whole and soul of my work. For females, it was mostly athletes or international faces who featured in such ads up until I saw Bipasha Basu for Reebok in pictures. I got inspired. Not knowing if I will ever be in the same profession, far away from even dreaming that I will ever be the face of the same brand, Here I am, almost 15 years later turning that motivation into reality.” She concluded by saying, “Yes it takes a lot of belief, not just your own but also people who are pushing you in this journey.”
