The B-Happy program continues to grow in the region CONEXIÓN LATINA

The park construction using scrap tires project accounts for 5 parks in Central America and the Caribbean. The B-Happy project was born in 2013 as an alternative scrap tire usage initiative; this is achieved by building parks and playgrounds for children.

This has favored centers for children with HIV/AIDS, Girl Scouts Foster Homes, educational centers and SOS child villas.

The program donates such parks to schools, communities and institutions that due to their nature don’t have enough resources to offer recreational areas for minors.

12 more sites are projected for the rest of 2015, including countries like Trinidad y Tobago and El Salvador.

During 2015, two parks have been built in Costa Rica, two in Guatemala and one in the Dominican Republic.

22 —CCR—

Projects are delivered thanks to volunteer support both from Bridgestone as well as from national sales partners in each country.

Bridgestone Costa Rica reached the national summit, in terms of the national framework of companies with more than a thousand employees. This happened after achieving first place in the Great Place to Work 2014 assessment. The study, performed by the renowned Great Place to Work Institute, carefully analyzed five workplace welfare dimensions, knowingly: credibility, friendliness, pride, justice, and respect. Parallel to the general ranking the Great Place to Work Institute awarded the company a special recognition

24 —CCR—

for its Respect index, in which the company had an outstanding performance. This can be perceived in the human touch felt within the company. According to Wilberth Campos, Human Resources Director for Bridgestone, this great achievement is the result of promoting employee satisfaction, making them feel proud of what they do, having an incentive plan and showing them the importance of their work for the company and society. All of these are key elements that impact directly on their life quality and contribute to having encouraged, productive, efficient collaborators with a high sense of belonging.

BRIDGESTONE VOLUNTEERS

Cleaned up the Grande de Tarcoles river estuary

19

More than fifty volunteers of Bridgestone de Costa Rica, together with the Municipality of Garabito, FUNDELLANTAS and Jose’s Crocodile River Tour company removed more than 1000 used tires from the Grande de Tárcoles River banks. With these efforts Bridgestone not only expect to raise public awareness about the responsibility to take good care of the environment and prevent that used tires are just thrown away into risk areas for the spread of the dengue fever virus, but

to also contribute with the improvement of the ecosystem which attracts lots of tourists day to day. The Tarcoles community has developed around this area, a lot of tourist activities which include boat tours and crocodile sighting. Unfortunately, the width of the river basin brings with it the waste which not only affects the ecosystem in general, but also the panoramic beauty of the surroundings. During the last years Bridgestone de Costa Rica has been devoted to

incorporate into its working plans, innovative ideas about the alternative use of the used tires; working closely with public entities such as municipalities and ministries, among others. The collected materials during the activity are transferred to FUNDELLANTAS, where they will have a more friendly treatment turning them into “llantiones” which are used to build retaining walls as well as in the construction industry.

—CCR— 25

CONEXIÓN LATINA

An intense working day in the river banks led to an equivalent of 486 hours of work in favour of the community that dedicates this area for tourism activities.

MÉXICO

Bridgestone Mexico celebrates its 100 millionth tire On March 10th, Bridgestone Mexico celebrated the manufacture of its 100 millionth tire at its Cuernavaca, Morelos facility. With this number, the company positions itself as the indisputable tire manufacturing and sales leader in México.

CONEXIÓN LATINA

19

Currently it has eleven hundred employees and manufactures twenty one thousand tires daily, all with the highest quality standards. Tire 100 million, an ECOPIA EP422 model, was born with environmentally friendly DNA. This way, the company reinforces its environment concern as this is a state of the art environmentally responsible tire; and contributes to reducing CO2 production. It produces less resistance when used and saves fuel. Bridgestone has made heavy investments in Mexico

26 —CCR—

which have allowed it to keep up with the industry’s demand. The 9,525 million pesos in revenues reported by Bridgestone Mexico in 2014 are owed in great measure to Cuernavaca’s factory modernity; it has cutting edge technology and highly skilled personnel. This allows it to be a highly competitive factory by international standards. The success in manufacturing a billion tires in 35 years is an achievement for every one of its employees whom day by day make an effort to manufacture premium quality tires for society’s benefit.

19

Great Place to Work 2015 Award Bridgestone and Bandag in Mexico continue to strengthen as enterprises committed to man power thanks to its decision to encourage better life quality policies and practices for employees. employees’ commitment, pride and drive through a strategy with programs that include training and development, empowerment, compensation policies, institutional acknowledgement system, and improvements even within the workplace itself. These actions have driven us to be recognized as an excellent company to work for” mentioned Monica Herrera, Human Resources Regional Director for Bridgestone Latin America, North Region.

According to the same GPTW research, employees for both companies assure they feel their contribution makes a great difference in their organization. Spring Break road Inspections

Bridgestone gave a cash donation to the Mexican Red Cross to acquire as many as 85 standard wheelchairs; these were donated to people with impaired movement problems. The Mexican Red Cross was in charge of selecting the recipient individuals in Mexico City and in the state of Morelos. The donation was possible thanks to the donations of 144 workers who volunteered in the annual Ruedas a la Vida program, by purchasing memorial jackets and through direct donations. Ruedas a la Vida is part of the corporate volunteering plan at Bridgestone Mexico to promote integration among the company’s members, relatives and friends. Together, they intend to improve life quality for people with movement impairment in poor communities by delivering walking aid equipment according to their needs.

The company created brochures with specific advice to prevent possible accidents that families may face when driving on highways. Apart from listing basic rules for a safe travel, they also emphasized on additional advice such as performing wheel alignment and balancing, inspecting tire air pressure, checking the load limit for each type of vehicle and visually inspecting for tire tarnish.

19

Since 2011, Bridgestone Mexico has been implementing these inspections during the Spring Break, adding up a total of 143 thousand brochures distributed on different roads. These vacations are the perfect moment to remind drivers about the importance of performing their vehicles’ inspection and, of course, tire inspection.

CONEXIÓN LATINA

Bridgestone and The Mexican Red Cross promote life quality

In April 2015, Bridgestone implemented road safety inspections during Spring Break, all based on the campaign “Think before you Drive”. This gives drivers advice on how to reduce car accidents and face dangerous road situations in two ways: emphasizing on actions that take a couple seconds to do and that can save lives, as well as identifying main risk factors that can produce major or lethal accidents.

Both institutions reported on an agreement to provide social help and community service. This agreement brings forward a better coordination and support, to promote healthy lifestyles, humanitarian culture, as well as information on contingency and disaster response through the volunteer protocols.
