Happy Fall Y'all!

This is my favorite time of the year. Cooler days, fresh apples, pumpkins, soups, and family gatherings – what could be better!

It was a lovely September as both my son and my sister came to visit. My son lives in California and my sister in Wales so these were big trips for both of them. The best part was their visits overlapped and they could spend time together. We made some fun new memories.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a subject, as many of our readers know, is something I know far too much about. I noticed that for years my social media reminded me of my breast cancer journey. Pictures of my bald head and some taken during chemo treatments would pop up as “memories”. But a couple of years ago that stopped happening. It just dawned on me a few days ago why – because they’re more than ten years old. It’s been twelve years since I was diagnosed with grade four breast cancer and ten since I finished my treatments for grade four Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I’m truly a survivor who counts her blessings every day.

Please, if you have a relative who has had breast cancer or you’re over 40, get a mammogram. Believe me when I tell you that they’re a minor inconvenience compared to having cancer! We have excellent radiography facilities in western Kentucky, staffed by experienced and caring doctors. Early detection saves lives, money, and many tears. Don’t be afraid of an early cancer diagnosis – treatment is highly effective and not nearly as invasive as it used to be. I wear my pink ribbon with pride. I feel fortunate to be a breast cancer survivor and I look forward to being old, cantankerous, and opinionated! I earned it.

From all the staff at PAFM… Happy Halloween (don’t eat all the candy). Happy Thanksgiving – we give thanks for all we have and for the friends and family who make our lives complete. And, as I do every year –a quick reminder that it's JUST 91 days to Christmas!

Casual Chic & Everyday Style

Our cover this month features Ellie Mitchell, Ava Gorline, and Olivia Hawthorne. They are shopping for the perfect clothes, accessories, and gifts at one of the area’s newest fashion gems. Welcome to JuliAva Boutique, where you will find chic trends for teens and adults!

Sister-in-laws Kelley Gorline-Mitchell and Olivia Hawthorne opened the boutique in February of 2022. If you think boutique clothing isn’t for you, think again. Just step inside, and you’ll be amazed at this store!

“This is more than a traditional boutique," Olivia told me. “We’re here to shake things up! Kelley and I talked about opening a store for six months. One day we said, Let’s just do it! Owning a boutique has always been a dream of mine. We are here to enhance your natural beauty and confidence.”

When you enter JuliAva Boutique expect to be greeted by a friendly face likely Kelley or Olivia. Depending on the day and time, you might also meet two-year-old Juliet and sixyear-old Ava. These are Kelley’s daughters and the boutique is named after them. These tiny but mighty fashionistas are always excited to meet customers.

“I love the freedom of owning and creating something that is ours,” Kelley told me. “I’m able to bring my daughters to work with me and teach them the foundations of a good work ethic and leadership skills. Our family comes first. Having this flexibility is important to us. It means I don’t have to worry about daycare or missing out on school programs and field trips.”

A Unique Shopping Experience

Kelley and Olivia have created a unique shopping experience at JuliAva. If you’re a busy mom who wants to look trendy while running errands after the morning school drop-off, JuliAva has you covered. If you are a business-woman looking to sharpen your wardrobe, you will find it at this boutique.

“Customers don’t wander around the store,” said Olivia. “We give shoppers space, but love to help if you are looking for a personal shopper. Let us show you around and find the style you’re looking for. We have a big inventory of clothing and accessories. Everything from trendy casual to a fun night on the town. Our cozy loungewear is perfect when you’re ready to come home and unwind.”

the boutique opens, Kelley and Olivia meet to exercise and discuss business matters. Staying up to date on the newest products is something they pride themselves on and closely watch the media and fashion news for changing trends. They collaborate to find not only clothing their customers will love but also accessories such as bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and hats.

“Blazers are very popular this season,” shared Olivia. “Whether you’re in heels or flats, you can dress them up or keep them casual. Shackets are one of the hottest trends for fall. A comfy combo of a flannel shirt and a jacket, a shacket is the perfect addition to your fall clothing. Vintage Havanna shoes are the most demanded tennis shoe on the market. Pair them with our stylish vintage t-shirts, a pair of relaxed jeans, and you’re ready for whatever the day brings!”

By carrying versatile items, JuliAva Boutique gives its shoppers the most bang for their buck. From business in the board room to a special event, you can find it all in the store.

Mix and match your favorite items to dress them up or down for a new look.

Quality at Reasonable Prices

“Nobody wants to buy clothing only to find a snag or hole after wearing it one or two times,” said Kelley. “We are very selective about the brand quality that we buy. We want our clothing to last. Buying clothes is an investment and we want to ensure the best shopping experience. Our customers come back consistently knowing they will find high-quality products at reasonable prices.”

“There is a bit of an age gap between the two of us,” explained Kelley. “I tend to gravitate towards the more

mature clientele and Olivia relates well to the younger ones. We know not all generations dress the same way. Listening to our customers is very important. We carry products you’ll love to wear whether that’s bell bottom jeans or athletic wear.”

Styles for Everyone

With years of combined fashion experience, the staff of JuliAva Boutique understands clothing choices aren’t one size fits all. If buying clothes is a daunting task, go with the Kelley and Olivia’s advice - just try them on! You may be surprised at how amazing you look when you step outside of your comfort zone.

“We are honest businesswomen. If certain choices don’t complement your body type, we will find an alternate option,” said Olivia. “Our experience helps us to see what clothes look best on different body types and our goal is for you to feel as beautiful as you look.”

If a typical boutique isn’t for you, give JuliAva a chance. You will leave feeling encouraged and confident enough to take on the world with your new style.

Substance Abuse Prevention

“It’s not a problem.” “It won’t happen to me.” Infamous thoughts like this can cloud the mind of anyone struggling with substance misuse. Misleading mind games make you think it won’t happen to your mom, dad, child, sibling, or friend. October is Substance Abuse Prevention Month, and seeking the right treatment is more important than ever. To be successful, an addict must be willing to accept help.

"Addiction is a family disease,” shares Catrina Egner Lynn, CADCA1. “One person may use, but the whole family suffers. No matter how much you love someone, you don't have the power to make them give up a behavior that they aren't ready to relinquish.”

Twenty-two million Americans battle substance use disorders. Add in the family, friends, and caregivers and you get an astounding forty-

five million people who are directly impacted by addictions. Roughly one in three households suffer from or are exposed to some sort of addiction.

Emerald Therapy Center offers a comprehensive addiction recovery program focusing on four areas of wellness - emotional, physical, spiritual, and financial. Each provider at Emerald provides a custom, confidential treatment plan to meet the specific needs of every client.

"Individuals who struggle with addiction are not bad people, just sick people trying to get healthy,” said Gerren Lawson, CADCA1. “You can't beat your addiction alone, but you can choose to succeed in it every day by making the necessary choices to stay sober.”

Relapses happen, but that doesn’t mean treatment isn’t working or that the individual lacks dedication. Relapse simply means there is more room for improvement.

"Every relapse is one step closer to the freedom of recovery,” said Samantha Jones, LPCC, NCC, TCADC. “Addiction isn't the route to fun,

Whether it’s prescription pain medication, alcohol, or illegal drugs such as cocaine, addiction is real. People with substance use disorders need real help to heal. If you are considering treatment for yourself or a loved one, don’t attempt to tackle it alone. Allow the experts at to guide you on your journey to a healthier,

A Time to Gather

Let’s Get Ready to Party!

Family and friends gathering together is a big part of the holiday season. Birthday parties, engagements, baby showers, Thanksgiving, or Christmas are wonderful times to make memories. Planning that party is a lot of work. Purchase Area Family has you covered! Following a few simple tips can make hosting this year’s party easier than ever.

Let’s Eat!

Many of us agree that food is the best part of any party. Whether it’s a full meal, casual buffet, or fun finger foods, everyone loves to eat! Rather than putting more pressure on yourself to cook, explore different options for catering. Don’t assume catering involves a large buffet, fancy foods, or a hefty price tag. Catered meals can be as affordable, casual, or as elegant as you want them to be.

“Pre-arranged platters are very convenient,” said Candy Collier, coowner of Gulf Coast Connections. “It’s as easy as picking up, taking home, and placing them on the table. The relief of having food already prepared takes a tremendous amount of work off your shoulders. Foods should be arranged on each tray in a neat, orderly fashion. Talk with several different caterers or restaurants and be clear about what your expectations are before deciding which option is best for your needs.”

The more you think outside the box, the more exciting it can be. Offering alternatives to traditional meals or party food makes it unforgettable.

“Wraps, salads, and sandwiches are always crowd pleasers,” Josh Jones, co-owner of Sissy’s - A Sweet Shoppe told me. “Offer multiple types of meat, cheeses, veggies, and sauces on a build-your-own wrap platter. Creative options such as a baked potato or a soup bar/ buffet with a large variety of toppings and sides will have guests coming back for seconds every time.”

Sweet Treats

Everybody loves a good dessert, but not everyone has the same sweet tooth. Keep in mind that guests may have different tastes than yours. To satisfy the cravings of every guest, offer a small variety.

“Having three or even two options is a good idea,” shared Emily Beck, owner of The Cupcake Co. “Some prefer rich and decadent goodies such as chocolate, caramel, or peanut butter. Others like something lighter - vanilla or soft fruit flavors. Individualized desserts are a safe option for flu season. This allows guests to only touch their food and not cut or serve from a community dessert.”

Hostess Gifts

“Gifts aren’t necessary, but it is thoughtful to bring one,” said Karla Hogancamp, owner of Paducah Olive Oil Company. “Think of something the hostess will be able to enjoy and use. You can never

go wrong with goodies like roasted pecans, organic chocolates or homemade jellies. If they enjoy cooking, a small basket with a variety of items like sauces or seasonings to add to their meals would be nice. Every time they use their gifts, they will think of you. Mugs, platters, candles, and flatware all make great gifts.”

Picture Perfect

Photography and videography aren’t only for weddings. Family reunions, milestone birthdays, surprise parties, and other events can be professionally photographed. Find a photographer best suited for your needs. After all, you want to remember each moment and reminisce for years to come.

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Ask different photographers what their style is and take a look at their work. Events take action shots, not necessarily posing. If you want to capture the details of the moment, find a photographer quick on their feet to hustle from table to table or room to room. If kids or animals are in attendance, ask the photographer if they are comfortable working with them. It can be challenging to get a protesting toddler to smile!” Amy Wright, owner of Wright Photography and Video, LLC shares.

Deck the Halls

Hosting a party at home calls for decorations galore! You can hire an interior designer or take the DIY approach for your style.

“Simultaneously make your home festive and inviting,” suggests Kellie Steele, owner of Five Psalms Co. “Don’t overdo it - too many decorations can make the venue feel cluttered. Sometimes, less is more. Stick with one theme. If you’re hosting a Christmas party, skip the fall colors and decor. Small touches such as accent pillows for a splash of color or a beautiful table setting make for a comfortable yet chic feel.

Guest Safety

If you are serving alcohol, as the host you may have to interject when someone has had enough to drink. The safety of your guests and other drivers sharing the road is the top priority.

Read online! issuu.com/purchasefamilymag Purchase Area Family Magazine OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2022 21

“A couple of drinks can escalate through the night,” said Cynthia Turner, Certified Prevention Specialist and Program Director with Four Rivers Regional Prevention Center. “Whether you hire a bartender or ask a particular guest to serve drinks, having one or two people keep an eye out for intoxication enhances everyone’s safety. If someone is drunk, it’s your responsibility to intervene. Politely advise the guest to stop, and if necessary close the bar. Ensuring that those guests who are drinking have a designated driver could mean the difference between life and death.”

The Perfect Venue

A house full of guests can fill a mind with stress. If you are hosting a large get-together, consider renting a venue rather than using your home. Consider how many people you’re inviting and where they’re going to park – maybe you don’t want to clog your street with cars or have guests walk blocks in bad weather.

“The venue needs to meet your needs,” advised Logan Blewett, owner of The Old Stone Church. “Ask about capacity limits before finalizing your guest list. Check out the kitchen to ensure you or the caterer have access to everything you need. Handicap-accessible accommodations such as elevators and ramp access are often overlooked. Do your community research because some rental opportunities are hidden gems, like the Paducah Railroad Museum for instance.”

Parties with Activities

On-location activity parties such as paint-your-own pottery or other creative classes allow everyone to relax and have fun. Your house will stay clean as a whistle because the mess is somewhere other than your living room.

22 OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2022 Purchase Area Family Magazine Read online! issuu.com/purchasefamilymag

“Don’t get bored doing the same things - try something new!” said Jackie Frazier, owner of Funky Monkey Pottery Company. “An interactive party allows guests to entertain themselves and each other. Cut loose and make a mess while everyone creates their own party favors.”

Let’s face it, the majority of men don’t enjoy making wreaths or painting. Planning a manly get-together just got easier with a day at the forge and completing a project together.

“Learn a new craftsman skill that could grow into a hobby,” said Fred DiPrete, owner of DiPrete Forge. “Skills such as knife-making or metal work takes creativity and patience. Experience male bonding time and team-building skills over hot metal and flames. Comradery is part of the key to success.”

Party Out of Town

Teams, office parties, and girls’ nights out can soar to the next level. Even though we love the holidays, the busy days and nights of the season cause anxiety for everyone. Take your tribe away for an experience - literally. Find your way to a cozy party camper and let it all go.

“It is helpful to escape the holiday chaos for even one night,” said Whitney Vitt with Kentucky Lake Glamping. “Take the stress out of your party planning and relax with your favorite people and have time to unwind. Your only plans need to be enjoying the laughs, smiles, food, and memories that you will have for years to come.”

No matter how large or small your holiday gatherings are, remember to have realistic expectations. No party turns out Pinterest perfect! Visit with your family, friends, and neighbors to spread holiday cheer.

Cold Weather Can be a Pain!

The cool air and plummeting temperatures of the season are nipping at our noses. Many are grateful for relief from scorching summertime heat, but for others, cold weather brings back an age-old nemesis - aches, pains, and arthritis!

According to cdc.gov, an estimated 58.5 million people have arthritis. One in four adults suffers from a painful inflammation of joints causing discomfort and stiffness. It not only worsens with age but also when cold weather arrives. Numerous studies show a connection between barometric pressure and arthritis pain. Other studies show cold weather slows blood circulation resulting in spasms that aggravate our joints. Whatever the reason, wintertime can literally be a pain.

Keep Moving!

A simple solution to try and ease those aches is exercise. Many tend to skip or reduce exercise in the winter. It’s hard to be motivated to go for a walk or bike ride in the cold, rain, or snow. Exercise for stiffness doesn’t have to be elaborate or intense, just regular movement. Start by setting a timer to get up and stretch for five minutes every hour. There are endless possibilities for exercising indoors. Besides YouTube, apps such as FitOn, Nike Training Club, and Daily Workouts - Home Trainer offer free workouts for all fitness levels.

Check Your Diet

As the old saying goes, “you are what you eat”. Our diet plays a major role in how we feel. Unfortunately, foods that cause inflammation are some of our yummy, deep-fried southern favorites. DeAnna Leonard, RN, BSN, LDE with the Purchase District Health Department offers helpful advice for food choices.

24 OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2022 Purchase Area Family Magazine Read online! issuu.com/purchasefamilymag

“Foods that increase inflammation include those high in saturated fats such as red meat, full-fat dairy, and pasta. Trans fat, which is found in cakes and convenient frozen meals is also something to watch for. Look out for refined carbs like white flour, potatoes, French fries, and rice. The Omega 6 fatty acids in corn, mayonnaise, and many of the salad dressings we enjoy can hurt our joints more than they help our body.”

“Healthier choices are not hard to find. Use extra virgin olive oil, eat more citrus fruits and increase your servings of whole grains. Garlic and onions add flavor to many savory dishes, and they help reduce inflammation. Low-fat dairy, heart-healthy soybeans, nuts, and broccoli are all beneficial in decreasing inflammation.”

Visit arthritis.org for more information on foods and inflammation. Fooducate is a free app that can help you navigate nutritional information. Talk with your doctor about a referral to a Registered Dietitian that can give specific information about your nutritional needs.

Quality of Life

No matter how preventative you are, arthritis pain may worsen. There might be an underlying cause for the inflammation such as rheumatoid arthritis or an autoimmune disease. Don’t wait until it’s too late. When pain affects several daily tasks or lowers your quality of life, your doctor may refer you to a specialist. A rheumatologist specializes in joints, muscles, bones, and immune system diseases.

“When you feel confined and isolated, your physical and mental health tends to slip,” says Dr. Phillips with Paducah Rheumatology. For this reason, taking a proactive approach to your healthcare management is critical during the winter to minimize your symptoms and help you feel your best. There are many different treatment options for a multitude of conditions. Finding the right one for you could drastically improve your overall well-being.”

“Some autoimmune and arthritic conditions can cause significant joint or organ damage, disability, or even death. With effective treatment, these complications can be minimized or prevented in many cases. The earlier an accurate diagnosis and treatment, the better the long-term prognosis.”

Soothing Supplements

The natural approach is always worth a try. Omega-3 fatty acids and curcumin or turmeric have anti-inflammatory properties to help combat arthritis pain. Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are naturally found in human cartilage. A supplement containing those properties may provide relief by helping to rebuild worn-out cartilage in your arthritic joints. Check with your doctor before taking any supplements and check the labels for allergy information.

“Another simple remedy to try is adding a probiotic to improve your gut health,” Dr. Phillips advises. “A probiotic contains live microorganisms that provide beneficial bacteria to your body.”

There are more than 100 types of arthritis! Odds are, many of us will be affected by at least one type in our lifetime. If you already suffer from arthritis, take care of yourself. Add an extra layer and bundle up to protect your joints from getting too cold. Try these tips and consult your physician if your symptoms worsen. 

“Pet parents get very creative with their costume choices,” said Taylor Morsching, Recreation Superintendent for Paducah Parks and Recreation. “We have seen many neat costumes over the years, but we always see something new.”

The costume contest will begin promptly at 1pm and have five categories:

• Clowning Around (funniest costume)

• Large Dog Paws-itively Pup-tastic (best overall costume)

• Small Dog Paws-itively Pup-tastic (best overall costume)

• Top Dog (best owner and dog costume combo)

• Best Dog Team Effort (more than two dogs all in costume)

Vendors, Shopping & More!

Man’s best friend deserves a lot of special treatment and pampering. After all, our dogs are there for us no matter what life throws at us. Shop a wide variety of pet products and spoil your dog just a little more. Visit vendors from local animal shelters and dog training facilities. Check out the groomer’s booths and make plans to get your dog as pretty as a speckled pup. Be sure to sign up for the raffles offered by select vendors.

Unless your dog is inside the gated area of the two dog parks in Stuart Nelson Park, all dogs are required to be on a leash. Be patient and mindful as there will be many dogs and children. Talk with your child about dog safety before they reach out their hand to pet each pooch they meet.

For questions or more information, call Parks and Recreation at 270.444.5166 or visit paducahky.gov/wooftober. Check Facebook for Wooftober hosted by Paducah Parks & Recreation for up-to-date plans. 

Ready for Fall Entertaining

Fall is finally here! It’s the best time of the year to entertain, gather with your friends and family, and celebrate the cooler weather. Whether you’re throwing a party while watching a football game, or just visiting with friends and enjoying the fall foliage, don’t forget those snacks!

I love having neighbors and friends to visit and we always try to have some snacks at hand. It could be a quick charcuterie board that we throw together or something a bit more involved. We try to keep a selection of nice cheese, a little salami or summer sausage, and some olives and crackers in the cupboard for just such an occasion.

For planned gatherings, I like to do a bit more such as some crostini, baked brie, or something savory such as cheese dip and nachos. You almost can’t go wrong with a little tapenade paired with bread or fruit and melted cheese. Sausage rolls or the southern version of sausage pinwheels are always a hit and don’t underestimate a mixture of crudités and a vinaigrette.

It doesn’t take much to put out a spread. Just let your imagination run wild with the time and food you have at hand. Live, Laugh, Love, and Eat Well.

Brie baked in puff pastry with fresh fruit

1 or 2 each apple and pears, sliced

1 small Brie whole (about 3 to 4-inch diameter)

1 sheet Puff Pastry (Pepperidge farm)

½ to 1 cup of chopped mushrooms

2 TBS Butter or Margarine

¼ cup Chicken Broth (can also use wine for a different flavor)

¼ to ½ cup plain bread crumbs

1/8 tsp Thyme

1 Egg

Thaw puff pastry sheet. Sautee mushrooms in butter. Add thyme and broth then allow cooking a minute or two. Remove from heat, and add enough bread crumbs to soak up the excess liquid and form a paste. Set aside to cool.

Preheat the oven to 400° F. Unfold the pastry sheet flat. Place the paste in the center of the sheet in a circle about the size of the Brie. Place the unwrapped Brie on top of the paste.

Fold and seal the pastry around the Brie.

Grease a cookie sheet. Flip over the wrapped brie onto the greased cookie sheet. Beat the egg and use the resulting egg wash to coat the pastry top. Bake the brie for 30 minutes or until completely brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 to 15 minutes. Serve with sliced apples and pears.

Recommend placing the sliced apples and pears in a solution of lemon juice and water or fruit fresh and water to preserve color.

Sausage Pinwheels

½ LB Pork Breakfast Sausage (I use hot to regular)

½ to 1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese (use your favorite)

Bisquick Baking mix

Flour for dusting

Per Bisquick instructions, prepare a batch of biscuit dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 18 inches wide and 8 to 10 inches across (I think I do a double batch). In a small bowl, mix the sausage and cheese. Drop bits of the sausage mixture over the dough and then from the long side, roll up the dough jelly roll fashion. Wrap the resulting log in aluminum foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes overnight for easier handling.

Preheat the oven to 400° F. Remove the pinwheels from the foil/ wrap and cut into disks about ¼ inch to 1/3 inch thick. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 20 to 30 minutes or until the biscuit is golden brown. Serve warm.

Sweet and Spicy Chex Mix

Makes about 12 cups

2 cups corn Chex cereal

2 cups rice Chex cereal

2 cups mixed unsalted nuts (or your favorite nuts)

2 cups small checkerboard pretzels or small pretzels

½ cup roasted edamame or roasted green peas (not wasabi flavored)

½ cup smoked almonds

6 cloves garlic, finely grated

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

6 TBSP Worcestershire sauce

¼ cup hot sauce (Tabasco or Franks)

¼ cup packed light brown sugar

4 tsp kosher salt

1 tsp onion powder

½ tsp fresh ground black pepper

Pinch of cayenne pepper

2 TBSP nutritional yeast (optional)

2 cups dried sour cherries or cranberries

Position racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven and preheat to 250° F. Toss together all the Chex cereals, nuts, pretzels, edamame, and almonds in a large bowl.

In another bowl, whisk together garlic, butter, Worcestershire, hot sauce, brown sugar, salt, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne. Pour over the cereal mixture and gently toss with a rubber spatula until coated.

Divide the mixture between 2 rimmed baking sheets and spread in an even layer. Bake party mix for about an hour or until dry and toasted, stirring every 15 minutes and rotating trays between racks. Sprinkle with yeast, toss and let cool on baking sheets. Transfer to a large serving bowl and add dried cherries or cranberries. Party mix without fruit will last about a week in an airtight container.

A Race for the Rest of Us

The Child Watch 0.5K

Have you always wanted to run a marathon, but don’t think you have enough in the tank to survive? If the answer is yes, we have the perfect event for you. The Child Watch Lazy Days of Summer/Fall 0.5K is back and lazier than ever. So sluggish in fact, they put it off until the fall!

On November 12, all couch potatoes, lazy loafers, and slothful slowpokes are welcome to join the snail-paced fun. The Paducah Beer Works (PBW) parking lot will serve as the grueling course. If you can endure four laps around a flat parking lot, you’re a winner. Once again Child Watch and PBW are giving you the opportunity to experience crossing a finish line without getting sweat on your workout clothes! It's the race for the rest of us.

There’s No Rush

“The pandemic seems to have stripped all sense of time away from us,” said Janie Criner, Executive Director of Child Watch. “We previously held this event in the spring but we figured why rush? The 0.5K is a casual, humorous morning where participants make fun of themselves for pretending to be athletes. It’s a time to showcase the runners who normally wouldn’t even earn an honorable mention ribbon.”

Register Now!

There are not many rules. Register and raise money for Child Watch at runsignup.com. Adult registration is $40. For that generous donation runners get a newly designed extra-comfy t-shirt, a swanky 0.5K pint

glass so you can hydrate long after the race is over, and of course a pretentious oval Euro-style decal for your car. It’s a $25 registration fee for kids 17 and under. Runners 17 and under will receive a t-shirt and decal. When registering, select minor and the reduced entry fee will be applied at checkout. Please don't get confused. Save your energy for the big day.

Team Work

Did you see the part about raising money? Get a team together and crowdfund for Child Watch. The team donating the most money is the big winner. Team Captains can create a team and send invites to other team members. You can set your own fundraising goal and start harassing friends and family for donations in no time. And hey kids! Get your kid-powered team together and show your parents who wears the sweatpants in the family.

On Race Day

Paducah Beer Werks is located at 301 N 4th Street in Paducah. Participants (21 and over) will receive a pint glass! At 10am ish they will have a very minimal warm-up (wouldn't want to over-exert ourselves or pull a muscle) and then it's show time. The race will begin at 10:30am and should only take around 15-20 minutes as long as no lollygaggers drag it out. Four leisurely laps around the parking lot (relax - no one is counting) and bam! You cross the finish line

and unleash your inner champion. Run, crawl, skip, sashay... anything goes and lollygagging is encouraged!

Costume Contest & Prizes

Awards will be presented after the last person crosses the finish line, then you’re done and have the whole day ahead of you to recover. Wear your favorite tacky sweats and outfits for the costume contest. Awards will be for best costume, largest team, and most creative finish line crossing. Visualize a dedicated runner drenched in sweat racing to the finish as the crowd goes wild. In reality, you’re trading the stopwatch and blisters for a donut and stretchy pants.

“Calories will help you recuperate,” said Criner. “So treat yourself to lunch at Paducah Beer Works and bask in the glory of your accomplishment.”
