The three ‘Mousketeers’ Jesse, the Sheltie, Buttons, the Lhasa Apso and Zak, the Schnauzer were a big part of the original bushwalking dogs who always accompanied us when we first started the trails. Much to the surprise of some, these 3 little scamps also won the top 3 prizes for the ‘Most Obedient Dog’ category at the very first dog show we held in the Village in 2005. No doubt they are together again and gone ‘Walk-About’.
ZAK, the little Schnauzer with the big ego, is sadly no longer with us. While I really miss the little guy I know he has gone to be with his previous owner, Jean Henry. All submissions will be welcome. Hints on care of pets, travelling with pets, unusual pictures of Paradise pets or any of Earth’s creatures….these are only a few suggestions.

Written by a third grader, on what his grandparents do. After Christmas, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holiday away from school. One child wrote the following: We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa. They used to live in a big brick house, but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida. Now they live in a tin box that has wheels, but it’s strapped to the ground. They ride around on their bicycles, and wear name tags, because they don't know who they are anymore. They go to a building called a wreck center, but they must have got it fixed because it is all okay now, they do exercises there, but they don't do them very well. There is a swimming pool too, but they all just jump up and down in it with hats on. At their gate, there is a doll house with a little old man sitting in it. He watches all day so nobody can escape. Sometimes they sneak out, and go cruising in their golf carts. Nobody there cooks, they just eat out. And, they eat the same thing every night - early birds. Some of the people can't get out past the man in the doll house. The ones who do get out, bring food back to the wrecked center for pot luck. My Grandma says that Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and, says I should work hard so I can be retarded someday too. When I earn my retardment, I want to be the man in the doll house. Then I will let people out, so they can visit their grandchildren. PRICELESS
Sometimes little ones say embarrassing things. When you’re alone you don’t mind. My little one was in the mall the other day and she hollered, “Ma! I need to pee.” With 1000 strangers around. Her Ma said, “Don’t say that, say you got to whisper. Of course nobody tells Daddy anything. While I was watching football on Monday night with 4 of my best buddies in the living room, my little one came up and said, “Daddy I got to whisper.” I said, “come whisper in Daddy’s ear.” 18

“COMMON SENSE OBITUARY” Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valued lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain
Why the early bird gets the worm
Life isn’t always fair
Maybe it was my fault
Common sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (Don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (Adults, not children, are in charge.) His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student; only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student, but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else is to Blame, and I’m a Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Paradise Squares On our November 4th dance we were “bombarded” as Paws & Taws came with 2 squares to retrieve their banner and Grand Squares had enough members to steal our banner. Fortunately Beausejour Swinging Squares did not have enough members otherwise our President Co-chairs would have had to forfeit their blouses! Co-chairs Laura and Henriette have instituted a special “theme” by wearing a different hat each dancing night this season and this night Laura’s was definitely different as it has directions on how to wear it! “The Hat” was a hit and was passed around all evening. November 18th, Pie Night, was enjoyed by 4+ squares including visitors from Beausejour Swinging Squares and Whirlaway Westerners. Our Christmas Party dance will be December 16th with finger food on the menu. Merry Christmas and Good Health in 2015! Larry Trush

Paradise Village Christian Fellowship Church BUT THE HOUR IS COMING, AND IS NOW HERE, WHEN THE TRUE WORSHIPERS WILL WORSHIP THE FATHER IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH. YES, THE FATHER WANTS SUCH PEOPLE TO WORSHIP HIM. GOD IS SPIRIT, AND THOSE WHO WORSHIP HIM MUST WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH. JOHN 4:23-24 Where do we worship? In our hearts or in Church? The answer is both. As Christians we are compelled not only to worship the Creator in our hearts but also in the presence of fellow believers. We live in a world that is teeming with temptation and distractions - a world where good and evil struggle in a constant battle to win our hearts and souls. Our challenge is to ensure that we cast out lot on the side of God. When we worship God faithfully and fervently, we are blessed. Come worship with us on Sundays at 10 A.M. at the LUD Hall in Richer. After a meeting several days ago, I couldn't find my keys . I quickly gave myself a personal "TSA Pat Down." They weren't in my pockets. Suddenly I realized I must have left them in the car. Frantically, I headed for the parking lot. My husband has scolded me many times for leaving my keys in the car's ignition. He's afraid that the car could be stolen. As I looked around the parking lot, I realized he was right. The parking lot was empty. I immediately called the police. I gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the car, and that it had been stolen. Then I made the most difficult call of all to my husband: "I left my keys in the car and it's been stolen." There was a moment of silence. I thought the call had been disconnected, but then I heard his voice. "Are you kidding me?" he barked, "I dropped you off!"

Now it was my turn to be silent. Embarrassed, I said, "Well, come and get me." He retorted, "I will, as soon as I convince this cop that I didn't steal your damn car!" Welcome to the golden years.............. Thanks Olga Baschak for this submission.

PARADISE VILLAGE NEWS
Winter in Manitoba – 2001 My wife, Linda and I made the decision to buy a brand new vehicle – a FORD ESCAPE. Like all things new it didn’t take long to mark it up – we were involved in an accident and consequently our car had to go to the body shop for repairs. We had car replacement coverage from MPIC and Frontier Toyota on Regent Avenue in Winnipeg was to supply us with a vehicle. Linda and I took the Escape to the auto body repair shop and they in turn drove us over to Frontier who supplied us with a nice new Toyota vehicle. Okay we are set! I had Linda drop me off at our house on Talbot Avenue. She was going shopping so I asked her to take my pay cheque and cash it for me while she was out. When Linda returned home she couldn’t open the garage – she got out of the Toyota to come in and get the garage opener - one problem - neither of us remembered to take it out of the Escape! The Toyota LOCKED UP TIGHT as soon as she got out of it and left the keys in the ignition and the car running. “No problem” says Linda “Give me the spare key and I’ll go and move the car so it isn’t blocking the lane”. The dealer did not give us a spare key! Now the car is idling away half way blocking the back lane and her purse WITH MY CASHED PAY CHEQUE in it is sitting in plain view on the passenger seat. Keeping calm I called Frontier – whoops – after 6:00pm – closed. It is -40 degrees outside. I call CAA for assistance. They advise it will be approximately 2 hours before they can come and help us out. I put on my snowmobile suit and go outside to stand guard over my pay cheque. Four hours go by – no CAA. It is now 10:00pm and I’m darned cold - I call CAA again – did they forget about me? Oh no, they tell me, it won’t be long now there is a truck in the area. At 11:00pm with no CAA in sight I fire up my computer and start looking for an emergency call number for Toyota. Success and bonus - the number is operative 24/7! I place my call and explain my situation – the lady who answers is in Alabama – she has never heard of Manitoba never mind temperatures of -40 degrees however, she is sure she can find assistance within the hour. Okay – it is now 1:00am – I’m no longer cold – I’m numb and my patience is getting pretty thin. I call the lady back – yes she has found assistance – CAA. I call CAA again – I am assured that CAA customers come first and that I am at the top of their list – the truck should be at my house within minutes! Lo and behold – 2:00am and what did I see – the CAA tow truck!!! The driver advised he had a special tool to open the door with – it would only be a matter of minutes. He got it stuck! The CAA dispatcher says that their expert is just coming off shift – he’d be right over. 3:00am The expert has now arrived. He too got the door jimmy stuck! Okay we now have a jimmy stuck in the window of the drivers’ door and in the window of the passengers’ door. Neither can be removed. At this point I’m done – It is 5:00am. I manually open the garage door from the inside; have CAA push the car into the garage – I leave the garage door slightly open to allow exhaust to escape as the car is still idling away! Finally at 8:00am I get a spare key from Frontier. Linda and I drove that Toyota with the jimmy bars banging against the car roof for a week. Frontier had to take both doors apart in order to remove them. Jim and Linda L’Esperance

Florida Calling: Best wishes for a safe Christmas from Ila and Brian Cooper in sunny Zephyrhills, Florida. Got a touch of frost on the newly planted flowers and lawn yesterday but no permanent damage. So relaxing to be back where gas prices have fallen to about $2.80/gallon US, the tomatoes are delicious, food prices much lower...and the sun tanning is beginning to show results. We’re cruising again to Jamaica and Haiti early December on the big ship where the ice shows, rock climbing wall, and mini golf will be the focus of our attention. Just kickin’ back now with a cool rum and coke. Maybe cut lawn tomorrow. Cheers!

PARADISE VILLAGE NEWS
Pharmacie Seine Ste-Anne 204-422-8226 170-142 avenue Central December 2014 - Coronary Artery Disease Coronary artery disease develops when your coronary arteries — the major blood vessels that supply your heart with blood, oxygen and nutrients — become damaged or diseased. Cholesterol-containing deposits (plaque) in your arteries and inflammation are usually to blame for coronary artery disease. When plaques build up, they narrow your coronary arteries, decreasing blood flow to your heart. Eventually, the decreased blood flow may cause chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, or other coronary artery disease signs and symptoms. A complete blockage can cause a heart attack. Because coronary artery disease often develops over decades, it can go unnoticed until you have a heart attack. But there's plenty you can do to prevent and treat coronary artery disease. Start by committing to a healthy lifestyle. If your coronary arteries narrow, they can't supply enough oxygen-rich blood to your heart — especially when it's beating hard, such as during exercise. At first, the decreased blood flow may not cause any coronary artery disease symptoms. As the plaques continue to build up in your coronary arteries, however, you may develop coronary artery disease signs and symptoms, including: •Chest pain (angina). You may feel pressure or tightness in your chest, as if someone were standing on your chest. The pain, referred to as angina, is usually triggered by physical or emotional stress. It typically goes away within minutes after stopping the stressful activity. In some people, especially women, this pain may be fleeting or sharp and felt in the abdomen, back or arm. •Shortness of breath. If your heart can't pump enough blood to meet your body's needs, you may develop shortness of breath or extreme fatigue with exertion. •Heart attack. A completely blocked coronary artery may cause a heart attack. The classic signs and symptoms of a heart attack include crushing pressure in your chest and pain in your shoulder or arm, sometimes with shortness of breath and sweating. Women are somewhat more likely than men are to experience less typical signs and symptoms of a heart attack, such as nausea and back or jaw pain. Sometimes a heart attack occurs without any apparent signs or symptoms. When to see a doctor If you suspect you're having a heart attack, immediately call 911 or your local emergency number. If you don't have access to emergency medical services, have someone drive you to the nearest hospital. Drive yourself only as a last resort. If you have risk factors for coronary artery disease — such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, tobacco use, diabetes or obesity — talk to your doctor. He or she may want to test you for the condition, especially if you have signs or symptoms of narrowed arteries. Even if you don't have evidence of coronary artery disease, your doctor may recommend aggressive treatment of your risk factors. Early diagnosis and treatment may stop progression of coronary artery disease and help prevent a heart attack.
