PARADISE VILLAGE NEWS

Luck of the Irish Dance 36 residents came to our Luck of the Irish Dance on March 16th. This was a smaller dance that was compared to a house party. The tables were placed in a horseshoe shape which let everyone sit together. Special thanks to my team, Laura Morrow, Cheryle Richards, Elvira Wiens, and Linda Freeman. Laura, Cheryle and Linda prepared the food for the late lunch. The Reuben sliders were a hit. We also had ham, cheese, and buns, veggies, and green dip. Thank you Elvira for all your help decorating the hall. Special thank you to Ray Belisle for the great music. Loved the Irish songs, especially the Unicorn Song by the Irish Rovers which some sang along to. Also a special thank you to Cheryle Richards for the donation of two beautiful door prizes won by Jim Stone and Larry Menec. Thank you to the anonymous donor of the $25 dining gift card for the best dressed leprechaun won by Glen Hallett as judged by Jim Stone. The trivia contest was won by Larry Menec and Joy Morrison. The 50/50 draw of $75 was won by Ray Belisle. Thank you to Glen Hallett for the donation of Irish chocolates for each table and two boxes of Pot of Gold chocolates for the trivia game prizes. Thank you to Debbie Kokil for getting copies of trivia

game for me. Thank you to everyone who helped with the cleanup at the end if the evening. Thanks also to anyone I may have missed. I appreciated all the help I got with this event. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Debra Hallett

Words from the Editor Happy April everyone; although, as I write these words to you it has been snowing and blowing and the chill in the air has definitely not left. “In like a lion and out like a lion” that was March. Brrr!Brrr! One more month to go and my time with this newsletter be will up. There has been some interest from a fellow PVRA Member to take over and should I be able to make things straightforward and inviting perhaps a new Editor will come forward in May. Think good thoughts for me, you, and us please. Speaking of Elections, I have included a few pages this month to really get you all thinking and talking and acting towards a positive resolution for the direction of the PVRA. First is the PVRA Accomplishments page, a reminder from our current President Ludwick Jarco that shows the many things that have been done and will continue to be done, on behalf of the community here in Paradise Village. Second is a “List of Executive Responsibilities” giving an overview of what each Executive Position is responsible for; and, that it is not done alone. Third, is a page of questions regarding events and activities by comparing those of the PVRA and those of Manage-

ment. These questions, if you will take some time to read and complete, can be reflected on and even brought to the meeting in May for the new executive to consider. No question or answer is dumb, useless, or annoying, and will be considered. If anything it is my hope that all residents are talking and brainstorming and that can’t be a bad thing: The main reasons we all live here in Paradise Village are? #1Retirement community #2 Great location #3 Peace and quiet The main reasons we grow to love it here in Paradise Village? #1 Forest landscape #2 Birds #3 Wildlife #4 Friendships made The main reasons that enhance our living here in Paradise Village? #1 Support and help from our neighbours #2 PVRA #3 Social atmosphere #4 Activities Life in Paradise Village sounds perfect doesn’t it? What do we have to complain about? By the above reasons, Paradise Village should be truly a Paradise to live in; but unfortunately, it is not. Management makes it very difficult to speak with them regarding anything to do with you or your

property. There have been many residents that have felt discriminated against, belittled, spoken to rudely, disrespected, confronted aggressively, and disregarded. The office is rarely occupied, phone messages have been ignored or not returned in a timely manner. There is no email address to which correspondence can be relayed. When you are able to meet with someone it feels like you have interrupted their time and it is an inconvenience. Often you are met with an attitude of “I have no time for you” and any confrontation may include a threat of eviction. Any offers made from a resident to support Management in regards to repairs of the community whether it be roads, water lines, etc. have been met with disapproval. There has never been a meeting with the residents in the 6 years that I have been here to inform us of any changes, repairs, road maintenance, rent increases or to just ask us what we would like to see in our community going forward. There is no transparency when it comes to financial costs and reasons for what is being done by them. We receive a rental increase and are then punished for exercising our right to appeal. Is this any way to run a business? What are we doing wrong to be treated

in this manner? As for the PVRA, Management appears to be threatened and does everything in their power to make things difficult for the PVRA to hold functions, meetings, discuss needs of the Recreation Centre in particular access to all rooms at all times during the hours of operations, storage, sharing of property, and the respect for PVRA Members who just happen to be Paradise Village Residents too. Management encourages discrimination of PVRA Members by Paradise Village Residents as well. The PVRA can make life easier for Management in that we can financially support purchases of things needed in the Recreation Centre, we can provide a team of people to organize functions, buy supplies for activities, work closely with Management on issues that seniors may have, and allow Management to do what it is supposed to do and that is to maintain and take care of the property and recreation centre building. Otherwise, it is Paradise to live here. Let’s stick together as residents and work towards changing the attitude of Management and supporting each other towards a Paradise that Paradise Village should be. Until next month. Debbie Kokil

Thinking of you... Brian Prior Thank you to Denis Jobin

I wish to thank my neighbour Denis, for all of his help this past winter. As some of you may know my husband is now in a care home and I visit him as often as I can. Denis has helped on numerous occasions to shovel and make a path for me to be able to get out and see my husband. Neighbours are a wonderful thing especially if they are as helpful as Denis was to me. Thank you Denis! Your neighbour, Rosemary Angell

So the Pope is SUPER early for his flight. He asks his driver on his way to the airport if he could drive around for a while because they have time to kill and he hasn’t driven a car since becoming the pope. Naturally, he’s a bit rusty, so he’s driving poorly, when suddenly he sees police lights behind him. He pulls over and when the officer comes up to the window his eyes go wide. He says to the pope “Hold on for a minute,” and goes back to his car to radio the chief. Cop: “Chief we have a situation. I’ve pulled over an important figure.” Chief: “How important? A governor or something?” Cop: “No sir. He’s bigger.” Chief: “So, what? a celebrity or something?” Cop: “More important, sir.” Chief: “A major politician?” Cop: “No sir, he’s much more important.” Chief: “WELL WHO IS IT!?” Cop: “Well I’m not sure. But the pope’s his driver.”

One day, Einstein has to speak at an important science conference. On the way there, he tells his driver that looks a bit like him: “I’m sick of all these conferences. I always say the same things over and over!” The driver agrees: “You’re right. As your driver, I attended all of them, and even though I don’t know anything about science, I could give the conference in your place.” “That’s a great idea!” says Einstein. “Let’s switch places then!” So they switch clothes and as soon as they arrive, the driver dressed as Einstein goes on stage and starts giving the usual speech, while the real Einstein, dressed as the car driver, attends it. But in the crowd, there is one scientist who wants to impress everyone and thinks of a very difficult question to ask Einstein, hoping he won’t be able to respond. So this guy stands up and interrupts the conference by posing his very difficult question. The whole room goes silent, holding their breath, waiting for the response. The driver looks at him, dead in the eye, and says: “Sir, your question is so easy to answer that I’m going to let my driver reply to it for me!”

Some of the folks who have been enjoying Wellton, Arizona this winter.

Les

Vivian, Carol, and Vida

On the road from Florida to Paradise... Our Florida hourglass is swiftly losing sand. Time to stow our treasures and mosey west towardNew Orleans, then north through the Ozarks and windswept mid-western plains to our True North. Our 14 winters in sunny Zephyrhills have been a blessing, and we’re overwhelmed that the co-operative community spirit between us and our American friends remains so strong and vibrant. Now, more than ever, we’re eager to return home to resume being supportive of fellow residents in Paradise. Time to turn over that hourglass and make new memories.

Hugs from Ila and Brian Cooper
