Message From The Director
Thank you for connecting with our virtual Leisure Magazine—Prince William County’s go-to source for all things recreation. Albert Camus wrote, autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower. Indeed, there is no better place to experience the wondrous beauty of fall than in our 5,000-acre mosaic of parks, trails, and historic sites. If the crisp air beckons you outside, plan a bike ride along the new greenway trail at the Occoquan Wildlife Refuge or hike the longest boardwalk in the region at Neabsco Regional Park. Take in 18 holes at the newly renovated Forest Greens Golf Course or tour the historic Brentstville Jail Exhibit to learn about the early days of Prince William County. In addition to 80 parks and 50 miles of trail, we offer hundreds of fitness and instructional classes for all ages and abilities, including adaptive programs such as Come On, Get Happy! on October 2nd at Silver Lake Park. Learn to Kayak on the Occoquan Reservoir at Lake Ridge Park on September 18th or hone your skills at identifying songbirds on November 13th the Pat White Community Center. If you are looking for a nature-based pre-school where mud and bugs are celebrated, consider the Grō program at Long Park, a curriculum that has been lauded by Virginia First Lady, Pam Northam. We also offer other state-licensed preschool programs at Chinn and Sharron Baucom/Dale City Aquatic and Fitness Centers and Veterans Memorial Park & Community Center. Register now while spots are still available! The fall season is also brimming with special events such as the Brentsville Bluegrass Concert Series (August 14th, September 11th and October 9th), The First Tee® Golf Tournament at Forest Greens Golf Course on October 11th, the Kids for Kids Triathlon at Chinn Aquatic and Fitness Center on September 9th, and Arts Alive! at the Hylton Performance Arts Center on September 12th at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. And don’t forget to shop the Dale City Farmer’s Market on Sunday mornings for a wide selection of artisan goods and the freshest produce in Prince William County: www.dalecitymarket.org.
