We work with colleagues in Faculties to offer career advice tailored by School and subject, and informed by Graduate Outcomes data and job market insight. With a dedicated Consultant attached to each School, the bespoke talks and workshops we offer to specific cohorts in teaching settings are designed to improve Graduate Outcomes at School level and include the following interventions:
Induction Talks Students are given an overview of the Careers service at Queen ’ s and how to make the most of it during their time at University.
Careers talks by subject We stay informed about the skills students are building up on their specific course and can help them explore career options relevant to their degree programme. We provide guidance and inspiration for potential career pathways, informed both by course content and by the latest industry knowledge.
CV Building, Cover Letter Writing & Application Forms We coach students on how to articulate their skillset to create and tailor an effective CV and cover letter. We also offer guidance on completing an accurate, comprehensive application form.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Confidential help to overcome any barriers that might restrict students from reaching their full potential or accessing graduate roles.
Job Searching Techniques We teach students how to approach job searching and offer expert advice on successful job-hunting methods.
Understanding Job Descriptions & Person Specification We teach students how to interpret selection criteria and how to articulate their transferable skills to meet requirements.
Interview & Assessment Centres Preparation We help students understand the purpose and format of interviews and assessment centres, as well as how to interact, and prepare potential questions and answers.
Professional Networking With strong links to employers, we help students to build and maintain a professional network, including on Linkedin.
Development Programmes We guide students on how to make the most of the development opportunities available to them at Queen’s and offer guidance on how to secure a placement, internship or work experience opportunity. We also host skills-enhancing programmes and employer events.
Career Planning We teach students how to reflect on their values, interests and strengths, and help them understand the value of setting SMART goals.
Internationalising your Degree Working closely with the Global Opportunities team, we help students make the most of the work and study abroad opportunities available to them during their time at Queen’s, helping them understand the value of international experience.
Drop-in sessions We offer pop-up sessions around campus, providing an opportunity for students to ask quick queries.
