European Parquet Market continues to progress at a moderate pace According to the first estimates of the European Federation of the Parquet Industry (FEP) for the year 2017, the consumption figures of parquet in Europe continue to increase for the third year in a row. While consumption progressed by 1.7% in 2016, a modest grow of close to 1% is forecasted for 2017. This prognosis is based on information received from member country and company representatives present at the recent Board meeting held at the DOMOTEX fair in Hannover. It should be seen as a first estimate subject to variations, in anticipation of the consolidated results to be presented at FEP’s annual General Assembly next June in Sorrento, Italy. This rather moderate progression is mainly a result of a slight decline of parquet consumption observed in Germany, the biggest European market for parquet, and Switzerland. On the contrary, all other countries are benefiting from the improvement of the general economic context, especially from the growth of the European consumption, and of the positive trends reported by the construction sector. At country level, Poland, The Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden are experiencing the highest growths of parquet consumption, followed by the Czech Republic, Austria and France. Parquet consumption in the Southern European markets such as Italy and Spain is also progressing though to a lesser extent. The political situation in Spain and the coming elections in Italy are somewhat limiting the positive developments already observed last year. Finally, the Nordic market (Denmark, Finland and Norway) remains stable after years of turbulences. Although the issue seems less acute than in the previous years, the captains of the parquet industry report difficulties in wood procurement, particularly for oak. FEP regrets to notice limitations to wood market access in Russia, Belarus and, especially Ukraine, which has a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) with the EU, and Croatia, which is part of the EU28 and its Internal Market. The FEP Board of Directors also underlines the tough competition from “wood look flooring substitutes” and the widespread misuse of the PARQUET denomination which is causing a growing and unjust confusion at consumer level. Parquet though remains the genuine original, the only flooring solution made of sustainable and renewable raw material Real Wood, coming from sustainably managed and expanding forests. As announced at last year’s annual meeting in Budapest, FEP’s 62nd General Assembly and 43rd Parquet Congress will be held on 14 & 15 June 2018 in the enchanting city of Sorrento, Italy. The Italian member companies and FEP look forward to welcoming all members, international guests, press representatives and colleagues at this exclusive annual event for the European Parquet Industry.

HANNOVER FAIRS USA to launch DOMOTEX in the UNITED STATES Hannover Fairs USA announced that it will debut DOMOTEX USA focused on the American residential floor covering industry in Atlanta, Georgia from February 28-March 2nd, 2019 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Launched in 1988 in Hannover, Germany by Deutsche Messe, one of the world’s top trade show organizers, DOMOTEX is the world’s foremost showcase for floor coverings innovation. DOMOTEX USA will consist of exhibition space, conferences and education, featuring flooring and flooring innovations in one easy three day trade show in America’s flooring capital, Atlanta. Exhibitors will display the latest machine-made carpets, wall-to-wall carpeting, textile floor coverings, handmade rugs, resilient floor coverings, design flooring /luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and laminate flooring, parquet and wood flooring, as well as application and installation technologies designed for the residential flooring marketplace. “Many industry representatives have been asking us for years to launch the DOMOTEX brand in the North American market, as there has not been a flooring trade fair in the eastern US that demonstrates the quality and breadth of the world's leading carpet and flooring show, the DOMOTEX Hannover”, says Dr. Andreas Gruchow, Member of the Management Board, Deutsche Messe AG, Hanover. DOMOTEX USA will target North American-based professionals, including wholesalers and retailers of Carpets, Floor Coverings, Wood Flooring, LVT and, other innovative flooring products for Flooring Retailers, Home Builders, Developers, Floor Installers, and Home Improvement & Buying Groups. BAU: XXL format in 2019 BAU 2019, taking place between January 14 and 19, 2019, will be a real XXL event. Because it will include the two brand new exhibition halls—C5 and C6—which increase the capacity of the Messe München exhibition center to around 200,000 square meters. And BAU 2019 will be taking up all of this space—18 halls in total. It will be the biggest BAU ever. There´s also a new exhibition section, on Lighting and Smart Building, to add to the comprehensive spectrum of themes presented at this show. Despite more space being available for the 2019 event, already now—one year before the show starts—it is getting hard to find free slots. Today is already clear that when BAU opens its doors on January 14, 2019, all 18 exhibition halls will be fully booked, down to the last square meter. And with the extra space at our disposal in 2019, it´s certain we will set a new record for exhibitor numbers. In fact we are expecting around 2,200 exhibitors from at least 45 countries. On the visitor side, too, the chances are good that we will exceed 250,000. The organizers are also aiming to attract even more trade visitors from abroad—the aim is for about one third of the total. The two new halls C5 and C6 are also bringing a few changes in terms of the exhibition layout. For example the section on glass, so far housed in Hall C2, moves into Hall C3. BAU IT, Europe´s biggest exhibition of software for the building industry, moves from Hall C3 into the new Hall C5. The new section on Lighting/Smart Building takes up Hall C2 and also incorporates solar shading systems, daylight management, arcade rooflights, roof domes, artificial lighting concepts, building automation/control and lifts.

Milan at the centre The 57th edition of the Salone del Mobile at Fiera Milano Rho from 17th to 22nd April, is an unmissable sectoral appointment at global level. A pavilion designed and developed with international design and innovation studio Carlo Ratti Associati will be erected in front of Palazzo Reale in Piazza del Duomo from 17th to 29th April. In line with the views set out in the Manifesto, this year the Salone del Mobile.Milano is again keen to acknowledge the value of outstanding concepts, creativity, innovation and technology. The third edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano Award will be a great celebration of design, with a ceremony on Friday 20th April at Palazzo Marino focusing on the myriad ideas generated by the fair. Recognition will be made of the huge productive and organisational commitment of the companies and all the designers and people who do their bit to make Milan the most interesting and attractive place in the world during this particular week.

OMOTEX 2018 featured a fresher, more modern, trendier look and feel than ever. Running from 12 to 15 January in Hannover, Germany, the event sported an all-new site and hall layout, plus a new Fridayto-Monday run and an array of immersive displays exploring the lead theme of UNIQUE YOUNIVERSE. This all added up to optimal visitor orientation and a fresh take on the world of floor coverings. As the world's leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings, DOMOTEX once again delivered top performance as a driver of new business, trends and innovations. 1,615 exhibitors and 45,000 trade visitors from over 100 nations traveled to Hannover to kick off an exciting year of business. The new DOMOTEX was enthusiastically received by the global floor coverings industry, which sported a record number of exhibitors and a record amount of booked space (106,000 square meters), thus underscoring a tangible turnaround in the floor coverings industry. "Significant growth in the number of participating exhibitors and the amount of booked space, a strong visitor turnout, an abundance of new products and innovations as well as an upbeat mood throughout the exhibition halls all bear XXVI

Exhibitors, young designers and artists used Framing Trends to explore the topic of individuality in 20 different "framed" rooms. This special display proved hugely popular among attendees and offered a wealth of inspiration. "Framing Trends was a big success. Its fresh approach gave rise to lots of new ideas
and made DOMOTEX more attractive than ever," remarked Gruchow. "This special showcase will therefore also be a key offering at future editions of DOMOTEX," he added. n look più moderno, più fresco e più trendy, è quello che ha sfoggiato DOMOTEX 2018, la manifestazione si è tenuta ad Hannover dal 12 al 15 gennaio con un nuovo layout dei padiglioni e dell’area scoperta - per orientarsi meglio in fiera - e con una nuova collocazione temporale nell’ambito della settimana (dal venerdì al lunedì, anziché dal sabato al lunedì). Legate al tema conduttore di quest’anno, UNIQUE YOUNIVERSE, stimolanti presentazioni hanno letteralmente catturato l’interesse del pubblico. Il salone leader mondiale dei tappeti e delle pavimentazioni si è confermato quindi ancora una volta potente motore trainante del business, delle tendenze e delle innovazioni.

Durante la manifestazione, vi sono stati anche momenti di incontro e riflessione con alcuni blogger, che si sono espressi sulle tendenze di interior design del futuro. Un altro tema di grande interesse, nel padiglione 9, è stato l’uso della realtà virtuale come strumento di interior design. Molti visitatori hanno indossato gli occhiali per la realtà virtuale per toccare con mano i numerosi possibili impieghi e vantaggi di questa nuova tecnologia.
Momenti e luoghi da ricordare Anche gli Art-Day-Workshop tenuti dall’azienda canadese di design Creative Matters nell’area speciale Framing Trends sono stati importante momento di ispirazione. I partecipanti sono stati invitati a cimentarsi su carta con colori, carbone, vernice e cera per creare fresche idee di design ispirate al tema conduttore. La presentazione dei Carpet Design Award il sabato di fiera è stata un altro importante evento che si è tenuto nel padiglione 9. L’ambito riconoscimento di fama internazionale è stato assegnato ai più bei tappeti del mondo di produzione manuale in otto diverse categorie. Anche il padiglione 13 si è imposto come nuovo punto di richiamo per posatori di parquet e di pavimenti in genere, arredatori d’interni e decoratori, mentre il punto d’incontro dell’artigianato Treffpunkt Handwerk ha proposto agli addetti ai lavori preziosi trucchi e consigli per la loro attività quotidiana. ! Also worthy of special mention is that Hall 13 established itself as a new magnet for parquet layers and other floorlaying professionals as well as interior decorators and painters, while the many Treffpunkt Handwerk offerings gave skilled tradespeople a valuable source of tips and tricks for their everyday work. !
