President’s Note Hey y’all! This is your president, Matt! First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful attendance during our general meetings on Zoom! I really enjoy the participation and it puts a smile on my face when I see the same name/faces on the screen. It is just nearing our big event with Northview Key Club for helping out the local Monrovia firefighters! I hope to see you guys there as our board and Northview’s board put a lot of work into the event. Our Charity Miles event came out great with our club’s total miles exceeding 100 miles! I would like to thank the officer board for attending the 5-hour long Region Training Camp. Hopefully, they picked up some new knowledge and skill to share and use during this term for us. Just a reminder that the link for dues have been posted on the Google Classroom. Overall, I hope all is going well with you guys. Online school can be stressful and with it being the 7th month into quarantine, I know it can be hard. Just know there is always light at the end of the tunnel and we will get through it together. If you would like to talk about anything, feel free to contact me, positive or negative, just to say hi or rant. I hope you guys have a safe November as it nears Thanksgiving. Thankful for everyone, Matt Hui

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual campaign from Oct. 1st to October 31st, used to help increase awareness about the disease. 1 in 8 women will develop Breast cancer during their lifetime. Approximately 42,170 women in the United States lose their life to Breast cancer each year. In order to help raise awareness throughout our city, Monrovia Key Club decided to host a service event lasting for the entire month of October!

So, who was Susan G. Komen ?

For this event, Monrovia Key Club selected Susan G. Komen as our charity choice. In order to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, every hour of running/walking accomplished one hours worth of service.

Susan G. Komen was the woman who inspired the great organization helping numerous patients and survivors today. Diagnosed with breast cancer at age 33, Komen fought bravely for 3 years until she passed in 1980. At the time of her death, breast cancer was scarcely discussed and it’s importance was often masked in the news. Although her legacy would live on as the name of their organization. In 1982, Susan’s sister, Nancy Brinkler, founded the Susan G. Komen foundation to spread more awareness about the disease and provide resources to those battling breast cancer.

As a result, so many discussions have been sparked and countless lives have been touched <3

UPDATES ?

“I thought it was super fun and the people were very nice. It was a little long but definitely worth it because we learned a lot and had a lot of fun. 10/10 recommend again for all incoming members.”

We recently had an RTC (regional training conference) on October 24th, and several Key Clubbers from MHS were in attendance ! From 10am - 5pm, members were tuned in from their computer screens. It was definitely long and tiring, but we’re so grateful for all those who participated !

Keep up the great work :) - Merissa Kang, officer & webmaster
