“Sensual and sexy, courageous and confident, Brittany Carruthers has overcome many struggles and has triumphed over every obstacle in her path!” A musical trendsetter, Brittany's singing talents were amazingly mature early on. Born in Memphis, Tennessee to musical parents, her father, Todd Tate, a guitarist and Janice Carruthers, also a singer, Brittany had a passion for music as far back as she can remember. Entertaining audiences of all ages since she was a child, she soon became a force to be reckoned with. Influenced by music artists Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Shania Twain and Celine Dion, Brittany’s musical style is powerful and her voice is captivating. Her music tells a story of her struggles and her pain. During her second year of college, Brittany welcomed her daughter, Makya Carruthers into the world, but she never stopped studying, and never stopped singing. In 2011, She graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in Print Journalism. Brittany became popular through tenacity, style and ownership of her own editorial magazine, Swagger Magazine, of which her now five-year-old daughter Makya is the heir of the family owned business in the print industry. Swagger Magazine is a monthly issue promoting HipHop, R&B artists and businesses throughout the South, primarily in Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi and Florida. In 2016, Brittany became distracted from her music, dealing with the issues life cast her way, including extreme poverty and homelessness. Brittany’s life took a turn for the worst and she hit rock bottom. Her belief in herself and life itself wavered and she lost all hope and courage falling deep into depression. Her voice began to go away and doubt began to increase. Yet she fought through and still kept writing. As the fight became more than she could bear, she knew that she had to be strong for Makya. Through meditation and selfencouragement, Brittany overcame it all and changed her life. “I admire strong black women who fight through the struggle because that is how you win, that is how you get away from the nightmares. I have fought my own battles and I have triumphed over my own nightmares.” With a new found focus on music, Brittany released several new songs including “Bout These Niggas,” “I Want You,” and “Strawberry”. Now with her smash hit single, “Lay Up” produced by T-Mix of Mix Muzik Productions, Brittany is preparing herself for the next level.
