My name is La Dawn from Memphis, TN. I am the youngest of two. I have always loved the arts, draw ing, writing songs and rap. It gives me an outlet when I can’t talk to anyone else or otherwise articulate myself, my feelings and my pain. I have been creative for as long as I can remember pain. My parents divorced when I was young, and their divorce was my first pain. My second pain was the loss of my Labrador, Max. Art and music gives me a way to express myself and deal with whatever I am going through. I also enjoy cooking. People always ask me “Do you have a cold or are you hoarse?” After I respond “no,” the next re sponse is... “I love your voice! You don’t sound like you are from the South.”
The sound of my voice is different as it has a unique, raspy tone. My tone sets me apart from other southern rappers and I love the dope sound my voice creates; it illuminates my creativity. My sound goes with my energy. My energy is bright and hyper…clean and genuine. It expresses both the heart and mind, and others feel my songs because it is relat able. Pain is my musical stimulus; passion is my motivation for creativity. I speak on reality, emotions, and sentiments, stuff that’s really going on in the world that others don’t want to speak on. My personality speaks “good vibes”.
I have always been a likeable person with a loveable personality. The vibes I give off just breathe life into others and people gravitate towards me. Some times, the negative energy of others, their problems and heaviness try to suck the life from me, but I persevere and keep striving. Though I maneuver around some of the distress in my life, that very pain has made me appreciate growth. I have learned to spread good vibes through music and dance through the pain. There is a happy place on the other side.
