SUMMER CAMP GUIDE
THE EXPERIENCE
OF A LIFETIME Dear Y Camp Families,
Summer 2018 is quickly approaching! The Rancho Family YMCA is thrilled to kick off the 2018 Summer Camp Season. We strive to create the best possible summer experience for all campers and families. We understand the ultimate summertime goal is for a safe and structured environment, where your children can stay active and have a blast.
LEARN SOMETHING NEW
Our Summer 2018 program has been designed to encourage friendships, foster learning and create the opportunity to belong to something bigger. Each week, campers will try something new, engage in team building and group activities, participate in global education, and make new friends, creating the ultimate summer camp experience. By choosing the Y, your family is joining a day camp program that has been accredited by the American Camp Association, which is only granted by meeting the highest standards in the nation’s day camp industry, passing more than 200 requirements to ensure the best camp environment possible.

WHY THE Y? OUR CAMP STAFF ARE... VETTED TRAINED
Safety is our number one priority. All staff go through an extensive interview process including reference checks, a background check and are CPR and First-Aid certified. YMCA Camp Staff receive more than 24 hours of training covering behavior management, facilitating friendships, inclusion and more.
COMMITTED
YMCA Summer Camp is a place for your child to call their own. Our staff are committed to helping your child create lifelong memories while exploring their own interests. We have carefully designed our program to allow them to do just that.
PEACE OF MIND LOW CAMPER-TO-STAFF RATIO
You can have peace of mind when you enroll your children in day camps at the Rancho Family YMCA. With a low camper-to-staff ratio, each child and teen will receive individual attention in a safe and supportive environment.
ACA ACCREDITATION
By choosing the Y, your family is joining a day camp program that has been accredited by the American Camp Association, which is only granted by meeting the highest standards in the nation’s day camp industry, passing more than 200 requirements to ensure the best camp environment possible.
Y CAMP IS F.A.B. Y CAMP IS FAB
We believe that children thrive in environments where they can create FRIENDSHIPS gain a sense of ACHIEVEMENT & feel a sense of BELONGING. It is our priority to ensure that whether your child is with us for one week or ten that they leave Y Camp with new friends, new experiences and a place to call their own.
GLOBAL & STEM EDUCATION GOING GLOBAL
As citizens of the world, we believe in the importance of teaching campers about acceptance, diversity and inclusion. Each week campers will spend 1-2 hours on global education in order to gain a greater understanding of self and the communities where we live, in relation to the world.
STEM EDUCATION
We want to prepare students for 21st century learning, allowing them to become knowledgeable and responsible citizens. Each week campers will spend 1-2 hours completing hands-on STEM experiments, helping them understand the world around them and encouraging their curiosity.
YOUR FEEDBACK TEXT ALERTS & CAMP
SEER SURVEY Each summer we survey our parents to elicit feedback and determine what we are doing well and where we can improve. This survey provides us with extremely valuable data about the quality of our day camp program, allowing us to take your family’s camp experience above and beyond.
To receive alerts about camp via text, text RFYCAMP to 84483. You can opt out of messages at any time by replying, “stop” or logging online to rainedout.net. To reach the camp director during camp hours, we now have a direct phone line to our Scripps Site. Number given upon registration.
LAST YEAR, PARENTS SAID... SAFE & SECURE EXPLORE MAKE FRIENDS
VARIETY
Enjoyed going and learning new things. Liked the interaction with the staff, since he had sever allergies. They were aware and kept an eye on him. Learning independence, exposure to diversity and participating in activities that interest her. She’s always been outgoing at heart, but very shy when actually putting herself out there is social settings. Making the friends and having the experiences with both the other children and the camp counselors during the summer did wonders to bring her out of her shell and build her confidence. The Rancho summer camp is hands down the best summer program we’ve ever been a part of. The counselors have been so fun, accommodating, and amazing mentors for these kids. My son speaks so highly of the experiences he’’s had as well as the counselors who make camp so much fun every day. He has learned how to make friends, how to embrace new experiences, and how to be a better person. I can’t say enough great things about Rancho!
OUR FOCUS THIS SUMMER We are always looking for ways to enhance communication and will continue that COMMUNICATION commitment this summer. Our goals is to effectively provide a snapshot of all the fun your children are having each day. FUN FACTOR
Silly, fun, and wacky ideas keep our campers guessing, laughing, and wanting to come back every day! Our staff will be challenged to keep it different and dynamic every day of the summer.
IMPACT
We will continue to focus on helping campers make friends, create a sense of belonging and achieve their goals, all while nurturing character development and giving back to the community.
We want kids to learn valuable life lessons while at camp. This includes learning about HEALTHY HABITS healthy eating, being more physically active and gaining self-confidence that will help them do better in school and life.

RISE Camp: Rancho Inclusive Support Experience
Week 1,3,5,7 & 9: Grades K-5 • $300/$350 Week 2,4,6,8 & 10: Grades 6-9 • $300/$350 RISE camp is a unique opportunity for children with developmental, physical, & mental disabilities, or other health challenges, who find it difficult to be successful in a typical outdoor day camp setting. This camp is separate from our traditional inclusion program (which provides support aids for children participating in Day Camp at our Scripps Home Base location). RISE is limited to a maximum of 6 children per week, providing a 1:2 staff to camper ratio in order to provide extra support. Days will include swimming, art, science, fun specialty camp activities with other camps on-site, and of course plenty of de-escalation down time in the air conditioning. RISE is located at the Rancho Family YMCA (9410 Fairgrove Lane, San Diego 92129). Hours are from 9AM to 4PM daily with no extended care. In order to support your camper in being successful, we limit the day to 8 hours to prevent over stimulation. Campers must be toilet trained, able to eat, take medication and be mobile. If you feel that this program would be a good fit for your child, please contact our Inclusion Coordinator Diane Wavrik at Dwavrik@ymca.org to schedule an intake appointment. Cannot register for this program until intake appointment.
