The impressive and unprecedented growth of the Triangle in recent years is making this a wonderful place to plan a wedding, as well as start a new life together. With so much prosperity, it is no surprise that the North Carolina wedding industry is thriving as a hotbed for creative and beautiful weddings and events. This year, we had the opportunity to showcase the work of the very best wedding professionals in the area. You can find their work throughout our publication, as all of our editorial content is created and shot locally in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and the surrounding areas. Our fashion editorial reached new heights at the penthouse Grand Ballroom atop the Historic Capital City Building. Inspired by the world of dreams, the feature was photographed by the unbelievably gifted James Walters of Photography by Walters and Walters, who used his skills in post-production to make our fashion dreams a reality. Breathtaking artwork set the stage for our floral shoot at the North Carolina Museum of Art. This talented group of florists drew influence from the various masterpieces in this contemporary venue to design and create stunning works of floral art. From enchanting and whimsical to bold and elegant, there is inspiration for every bride within our floral section. The 2015 cake shoot took us to the chic and sophisticated Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel, where decadent cakes were set against elegant backgrounds throughout the venue. We love the way our amazing cake designers embraced new and emerging wedding trends, creating masterpieces of their own. Styled Shoots give us an opportunity to witness and facilitate the dynamic collaboration between our fantastic wedding professionals. Together, they create unique and imaginative endeavors that not only inspire, but also create fruitful professional relationships between our vendors. This year, our styled shoots brought us to several extraordinary and far-reaching Triangle wedding venues including Babylon, The Barn at Woodlake Meadows, the Manor at Carriage Farms, and the Umstead Hotel and Spa.

These metals will not only last longer but will also create a timeless look. According to Ginny T. In addition, she recommends choosing a classic, timeless style that will look just as good 50 years from now as it does today. Whatever you choose, it is important that you give yourself enough time to order. Start looking at least a year out from your wedding to give yourself enough time to find something you really love. about the shoot

For our 2015 Fashion Shoot, we needed to find a place that could provide a backdrop for a very specific vision. We were inspired by the world of “dreams” for our fashion spread, evoking words such as bright, ethereal and fanciful. The Grand Ballroom atop the Historic Capital Club Building in Downtown Raleigh, with its floor to ceiling windows, whitewashed Art Deco details and panoramic views, was the perfect canvas to execute our avant-garde imaginations. This beautifully restored building was constructed in 1930 in the style of traditional Chicago skyscrapers. Its renovation in 1992 maintained its classical style and 1920’s era accents. The result was a stunning and elegant penthouse floor, with some of the best views in Downtown Raleigh, perfect for weddings and events. For more information, see page 19.

ately think of their dream wedding – the wedding that they would plan if things like budget and location were not a factor. An opulent affair comes to mind, with crystal chandeliers and sky-high flower arrangements dripping in roses, and an extravagant wedding gown with a 15-foot long train. For others, their dream wedding could be an intimate gathering, where friends and family from far-reaching destinations can finally come together for the first time to celebrate their marriage. Still others may think of “wedding dreams” as those inexplicable night visions that test the limits of our sanity during the planning process. From

dreaming that you show up in a wedding dress that isn’t your own, to dreaming that you got married underwater, to dreaming that your bridesmaids showed up in red “pleather”, there is no limit to the nightmarish and puzzling scenarios that our mind will create during a time of wedding planning stress. Our suggestion for these moments of panic and confusion is to just tell your significant other and laugh about it. The truth is, that many of our wedding dreams began long, long ago. From the moment we saw our parent’s wedding albums, we began envisioning what our special day would be like. Some of us went so far as to wrap ourselves in bed sheets and stage fake ceremonies with our friends, or start sketching our “dream” wedding dresses. (The odds are good that these drawings looked vaguely similar to Barbie’s or Cinderella’s wedding gowns.) As we grew older, our wedding dreams transformed with the advancing times and trends. Just like our dream wedding dress evolved from a magnificent ball gown to a chic fit-and-flair or sheath gown, or our flower crown became a cathedral or birdcage veil. With the new world of Pinterest, women are planning their entire “dream wedding” before they are even engaged! Nevertheless, at that young early age, all of our wedding dreams had something in common – that we didn’t know who would be standing at the end of the aisle waiting for us. Then, one day, that all changed. Your wedding fantasy became a reality when you found the person of your dreams, and the person who shares your dreams for a happily ever after.

The world of high-fashion is a world of fantasy. Designers create looks stemming from the outer reaches of their imagination, and nothing is off limits. Modern runways are often dominated by fantastical details with no grounding in the real world, such as a feather headdress or a ball gown with the circumference of an SUV. While some of these elements have no place in ready-to-wear, your wedding day is the perfect place to incorporate a

Our fashion editorial is inspired by the realm of dreams, drawing from the worlds of fashion and fantasy. Beautiful gowns became elements of fancy when placed against unexpected backgrounds. Let these images inspire you to dream big when it comes to your wedding day fashion. If the wedding gown of your childhood dreams had a veil the length of the aisle, don’t let go of that idea, and choose a long flowing cathedral veil that exceeds traditional convention. Dreamy and ethereal are words that come to mind when we see the current trend of enchanting floral crowns in place of veils. Floral designers are also creating even more opportunities to incorporate flowers into your wedding day look, such as flower necklaces

and other jewelry. Feathers innately evoke images of reverie, and they certainly have a place in current wedding fashion. Whether softly cascading down a skirt or making an appearance in bridal accessories, feathers are a dreamy addition to any wedding day look.

Bridal fashion trends from the Fall 2015 runways include details that convey the unexpected. Plunging necklines and low or open backs made an appearance, as well as pops of color in ethereal pastels. Beading and other glitz details are no stranger to bridal fashion, but fantastic options are available that take sparkle to the next level as well as bold beaded necklines that forgo the need for bridal jewelry. If your dream wedding dress was never the long gown, but rather something shorter, several wedding gown designers are creating short and sweet options with traditional bridal details, as well as more modern elements like feathers, sleeves and cut outs. Elements of fantasy are not limited to wedding gowns. As with floral crowns, and feathered jewelry, use your accessories to convey a sense of reverie in your wedding day look. Even your wedding décor can bring guests into a dream. Ethereal hanging lanterns, florals cascading from the ceiling, or dramatic flower walls are just a few ways to transport your guests into another world. When planning your dream wedding, we hope that you won’t forget what you imagined for yourself when you were a child. Ultimately, your wedding day is about self-expression – expression of your love for your significant other, as well as expression of your own unique personality. Even by just incorporating whimsical details, you can be the bride that you always dreamed that you would be. While the big picture may have changed, there are so many ways to incorporate a bit of fantasy into your special day.

Boutiques like Traditions by Anna can make some changes, and they can inspect custom orders from the Toronto flagship store to ensure that they are made to specification. Each custom created gown also comes with a sketch of the dress. Says Belter, “When a Lea-Ann Belter bride slips on her gown, I want her heart to soar!”wm

For 20 years now, Belter has been making bi-annual visits to Raleigh from Toronto to create debutante and wedding gowns for Traditions by Anna boutique. Elizabeth &Austin Like something out of a modern romantic comedy, Austin and Elizabeth’s love story began in a Starbucks, a first date turned into a second, and the rest was history. Then, on their two year anniversary, Austin asked Elizabeth to be his wife with a beautifully sweet day of pampering and a heartfelt proposal with “Will You Marry Me?” written in twinkling lights. For their romantic, southern wedding, Elizabeth and Austin looked to Katherine Wrenn with Posh Events, and the Manor at Carriage Farms. Just south of Downtown Raleigh, the Manor is an elegant and dynamic estate with beautiful locations and amenities. The couple chose to have their ceremony under the outdoor garden pergola adorned with a crystal chandelier and a string duo offering the processional. The bride was radiant in a gorgeous lace gown, which echoed the lace in the wedding invitations, while the bridesmaids wore floor-length pink dresses. The groom and his groomsmen sported dark grey suits and blush ties to complement the ladies. Miss Betty White, the “Dog of Honor,” made a special appearance during the ceremony as well! platter, three decadent entrées, and two southern-inspired Elizabeth worked with Kat to create a palette of blush, pink, cream

Caitlin &Chase Duke University holds a special place in Caitlin and Chase’s hearts, as this was where they first met and their relationship started to grow. It was only natural, then, that they would come back to this lovely place to say their vows. With its dramatic arched ceilings, beautiful stained glass windows and stunning Gothic details, Duke Chapel is a one of a kind venue for a ceremony. The bride and groom knew this to be true, so they camped outside for the opportunity to book their wedding date at the Chapel! After a lovely ceremony at the Chapel, the festivities moved on to the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club in the heart of Duke’s campus. Wedding Consultant, Gina Myers of La Cosa Bella Events, worked with the couple to design a classic reception that was also playful and personal. Stunning arrangements in shades of blush and ivory, while cream-colored rosette linens covered the tables alongside gold Chiavari chairs. The place settings included beautiful gold-rimmed chargers, and fashionable menu cards and table numbers that included a touch of navy to complement the bridesmaid’s dresses. While the décor was classically elegant, the couple wanted to infuse an element of fun into the event, and play with the fact that they were re-visiting their alma mater. While a lively band provided rousing entertainment for the evening, guests enjoyed a dressed-up version of a campus favorite: beer pong! Bartenders were on hand to fill up adorable monogrammed cups while the guests played. Everyone enjoyed classic stadium treats, like cotton candy and popcorn, and the Duke Blue Devil mascot even made an appearance. A chic four-tiered wedding cake was simply and stylishly decorated with white sugar flowers and strands of draped edible pearls. Loved ones were sent home with wonderful memories, boxes of cake, as well as creative wedding favors that represented places 2015

The gift bags included black and white cookies from the bride’s birth state of New York, miniature bottles of Tito’s vodka from the groom’s home state of Texas, saltwater taffy from Caitlin’s home state of New Jersey, and coconut macaroons from their favorite North Carolina restaurant. With the help of La Cosa Bella Events, this couple proved that even the most elegant and classic wedding could be playful and personal by incorporating special details, a sentimental venue and a sense of fun-loving lightheartedness.

susannah &rob It was a beautiful spring day in May when Susannah and Rob tied the knot at Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, NC. The bride wore a stunning tea-length gown by Oscar de La Renta in a creamy shade of ivory, with an illusion neckline, lace appliqués, and just the right amount of sparkle in a delicate beaded belt. The bridal party carried lush hand-tied bouquets filled with soft pink roses, amorous greenery and blue floral accents. Hanging floral arrangements were also placed at each mother’s chair with soft blush peonies and berries in wrought iron containers. The gazebo in Duke Gardens was brimming with fresh Jasmine, creating a natural arbor that framed the happy couple as they said, “I do.” A trio of trombonists from the University of North Carolina provided the ceremony music, lending a classic sound that was a fresh interpretation of the traditional wedding processional. Susannah and Rob incorporated a cord ceremony into their vows, braiding three purple, gold and white ropes together to symbolize their union of marriage and the integral role of Christ and faith holding them together. The reception was held at the historic Trotter Building in Downtown Durham and was coordinated by the talented Cathy Anna Designs. Upon arrival, guests were treated to refreshing mojito and raspberry LocoPops, a local Durham favorite. Once inside, the guests signed vintage postcards that the bride had been collecting for several years. This unique and sentimental take on a “guest book” gave attendees the opportunity to leave sweet and special messages to the couple, as well as provided Susannah and Rob with their addresses! The “Vintage Eclectic” theme, executed by Cathy Anna Designs, reflected the couple’s personalities. A mix of old and new, with a touch of rustic, using an elegant mix of burlap, antique colored glass bottles, cigar boxes and hatboxes. Tree branches held hang94

Embracing the theme of “old and new,” Cathy Anna Designs placed vintage milk cans, padlocks, crates and other antiques throughout the room, adding to the overall ambiance. Dinner was catered by Danny’s Barbeque of RTP, and gave guests a true taste of the South with barbequed chicken, pulled pork and all of the traditional fixings. Dessert was a three-tiered cake in a creamy white Swiss meringue with blue Cornelli lace accents set atop an antique dairy crate. Mini cupcakes were displayed on vintage produce crates, giving the guests three more tantalizing flavors to choose from. The room was set aglow with hanging Chinese lanterns in white and royal blue, accented by various tea lights throughout, creating an ambient and intimate space. Guests danced the night away to Curtis Eller’s American Circus Band, playing on the couples fun and quirky style. Eller brought his style of music to the South from New York City, and describes his sound as “inelegant rock and roll… Specializing in banjo music for funerals, gospel tunes for atheists and novelty dance fads for amputees.” Obviously, their funky sound created a vibrant and unique atmosphere that brought folks onto the dance floor in droves.

Denise Nelson and Craig Robinson’s love story began with one chance encounter after another, all in the name of networking. Katelyn &Kyle When Katelyn and Kyle met in the 9th grade, they quickly became best friends. The two were unaware that this friendship would grow into a deep love and support that would ultimately lead them to the altar. Although they were best friends throughout high school, the pair did not begin to date until their second year of college. Their closeness started when Kyle helped Katelyn through the passing of her brother, and continued from there. Their friendship began at school, as did their engagement: Kyle proposed to Katelyn while she was a student teacher. Her colleagues sent her out of the classroom for a faux errand, and when she returned Kyle was there with flowers and had “Will you Marry Me?” written on the chalkboard. After she put on her ring, all of the students lifted signs that said “She Said Yes!” It was a complete surprise and such a happy moment for everyone. For their springtime ceremony, the couple selected the Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, NC and wedding planners from C and D Events. This secluded location gave guests the chance to walk through the beautiful gardens, surrounded by the natural beauty of

Mary Courtney &Kit Mary Courtney and Kit first met in 2009 while volunteering for their Clemson chapter of YoungLife. Five years later when they decided to get married, they chose a location just a few miles away from the YoungLife Camp, Windy Gap, which holds a special place in their hearts. When Chad Biggs first began designing Mary Courtney and Kit’s wedding ceremony and reception at Claxton Farms, he knew that his first challenge would be to create a space unlike any other without taking a way from the beautiful venue and surrounding landscape of Asheville, North Carolina. He discovered that, of all of the weddings that had taken place there previously, many of them had the same design themes and details. Step one was to find unique elements that inspired Mary Courtney and had a cohesive look for her wedding décor. When he presented his vision of the ceremony and reception to Mary Courtney, Chad said, “I watched her come to life- her eyes gained interest and her big smile warmed my heart.” Chad added that she seemed both excited and relieved when she realized that he understood her inspiration for the location that she and Kit had chosen. Their wedding took place on August 30th, 2014, and the weather was more than perfect. The ceremony felt welcoming with vintage doors displaying lush natural wreaths, accented by small white floral accents. Pavilion style seating brought intimacy to a large gathering of loved ones, and two guitarists set the tone for the wedding procession. The “refined country” look of the groom and groomsmen in slacks and suspenders complemented the airy slate blue dresses on the bridesmaids. The bride wore a gorgeous scalloped lace a-line gown and a delicate flower crown as she walked down the aisle. The couple said their vows in front of a simple wooden cross and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains were in the background. 2015

As soon as the ceremony ended, the celebration began. Live music from The Rubberband Band filled the air. Chad Biggs and the couple chose unique elements to entertain the guests as well, including horseshoe pits, s’mores by the fire, and a “pie spooning” in place of a traditional cake cutting. The reception was decorated in a way that accented the lush and breathtaking surroundings. Visually interesting centerpieces included flowers and foliage in shades of white and green, flanked by natural moss, cut trees, and stone bird figurines, as well as mercury glass tea lights and lanterns. Inside the barn, a vast stone mantle was the focal point of the venue space, with layers of tea lights on top, well as inside the fireplace. In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, Mary Courtney and Kit chose a pie table, with various flavors of pie for guests to enjoy. Various vintage and rustic elements were layered throughout the decor, adding to the thoughtful ambiance of the evening. The couple and their guests dined on a meal inspired by Southern favorites, accented by international delights including barbequed sliders, Moroccan chicken skewers, build your own potatoes, and Greek spanakopita. Mary Courtney and Kit, their guests and family never stopped smiling, even as a light rain blessed the couple as they made their way to the getaway Land Rover.

the bountiful table

Your wedding reception is a time for guests to dine, drink and enjoy chatting with one another around the reception tables. However, if guests are confined to a small area due to oversized or bulky tabletop arrangements, they may quickly become annoyed and uncomfortable. The following tips from Quintessentials suggest ways you can put together your tabletop arrangements while avoiding frustration among guests. Keep DÊcor on the Down-Low | As guests get to know each other around the dinner table, they don’t want to have to talk through tall candelabras or flower arrangements. Depending on the type of table you choose and how you seat your guests, make sure they are able to talk to one another without having to strain to speak.

Flora Fragrance | As beautiful as many flowers may be, some are a little too fragrant for a meal. You don’t want your flora to overpower the food that you are paying so much for! When selecting your tabletop flowers, smell your arrangements and make sure that they will complement dinner aromas. Keep it Comfy | Avoid having too many place settings, since this can cause the table to look and feel crowded. Nothing is more irritating than knocking over a drink when you are reaching for the salt. Make sure you see your table in its entirety beforehand so that you can make any last-minute adjustments necessary to give guests plenty of room.

those irreplaceables who stand by you. Photos of your bridal party are on our must-have list, and should reflect the unique bond that you share with your closest friends. We asked our talented photographers to share their favorite images of the bridal party, from sweet to silly, that perfectly capture this special relationship between a bride and her ‘maids.

“This was by far the largest bridal party I have ever photographed, 35 people. It takes 35 people a while to get ready, some of them were ready a while before the others, I thought it was really funny that only one of the guys was ready and almost all of the girls were done, so I wanted to emphasize that by putting them all together, I was lucky he was such a ham, and the girls were game!” HalftoneStudios.com

“I love to photograph the bridal party in a dynamic way, interacting and being themselves. These are the couple’s closest friends and I want them to look back and remember just how much fun they were having together” JBHaygoodPhotography.com

“This really was a quick decision we made because of the awesome pinwheel bouquets the bride handmade! We wanted to show them off in a fun way- and this photo was a great way to show the relaxed bride and her bridesmaids & the way I love to be with my brides and grooms- easy, playful & fun!” HebaSalama.com

“This was a fantastic bridal party because they were up for anything. This was their reaction when I asked the bride and groom to kiss and then asked the rest of them to be excited and silly. ‘Y’all are excited right?’ I asked them. Ah, loved this reaction! “ RedBridgePhoto.com

“Perhaps my favorite bridal party photo this year came at the end of the night at Bay 7 in Durham, NC. I was in the dance crowd as the last dance song started and I looked up and watched the groomsmen by chance start to gather and look down. Ben, the groom, magically showed up at the last second, and placed himself in the middle. Ben is 4th from the right.” Vesic.com

boudoir photography THE PERFECT GROOM’S GIFT It is becoming more and more common for couples to give each other a special gift to celebrate their nuptials. A nice piece of jewelry is common for the bride, as is a watch or something sports related for the groom. However, if you are looking for something truly unique that your husbandto-be will love, you should skip the jewelry and other items that will likely be gone within a few years and give the gift of boudoir photography instead.

wedding cake trends The tradition of a wedding cake began in Ancient Rome as a way to promise good fortune and a prosperous life to the new bride and groom. Today, wedding cakes serve as a centerpiece for the reception, and are as equal a representation of taste and personality as the bride’s gown or décor. From top to bottom, (and even inside!) couples are finding unique ways to sweeten their wedding style with charismatic confections. Pretty Pedestals | Think of a cake stand as the shoes of your wedding cake: Without them, an outfit is incomplete, and they should match the rest of the ensemble! A gorgeous cake needs an equally beautiful base, so a pedestal is a must-have. Whether it is simple and chic or glamorous and ornate, the cake stand should continue the theme of the cake as well as your event.

From the name of their restaurant, Herons, to the sweet selection of hand blown glass birds in their gift shop, they make an appearance all over the hotel. Along with the lovely imagery that two lovebirds create, this was the perfect theme for an enchanting bridal shower. A palette of green and ivory was chosen to complement the lush surroundings of the terrace, with touches of vibrant oranges and sunny yellows. The natural inspiration was everywhere, with branches, moss and cut trees layered throughout the décor, on the gift table and the mimosa bar.

Classic Party Rentals provided a gorgeous farm table and harvest chairs, topped with chic ivory dishware, contemporary silver flatware, and iridescent green glasses to compliment the greenery of the surroundings. Each chair was decorated with darling miniature terrariums and flowers. A neutral woven runner set the stage for a gorgeous tablescape by Watered Garden Florist that featured a mixture of acrylic and natural elements, a quintessential combination for the Umstead Hotel and Spa. Crystalline tubing was intertwined with beach-worn branches, along with arrangements of orange gloriosa lilies, green cymbidum orchids, white and green hydrangeas, gooseneck, soft green roses, white lisianthus and fatsia leaves. Nestled among the flowers were bird’s nests at each table setting that contained their own emerald green blow-glass birds. These gorgeous objet d’art are handcrafted in Finland by glass master Oliva Toikka and made wonderful keepsakes for the bride and her guests.

the luncheon party

A bridesmaid’s luncheon is the perfect way to say “thank you to the wonderful friends and family who will be standing by your side on your wedding day. With the help of Katherine Wrenn with Posh Weddings & Events, our bride wanted to treat her bridesmaids to a special event to show her gratitude for all they have done. The beautiful landscape surrounding the Manor at Carriage Farm was the perfect backdrop for a French Countryside inspired luncheon - the pastoral, rolling hills and lush gardens inspired an elegant and feminine event with old-world charm and modern twists.

Teacup Floral also designed a flowing floral swag to drape across the rustic farm table from Classic Party Rentals, flanked by more vintage lanterns. Classic Chiavari chairs were draped in pink ruffled chair covers, adding to the playful femininity of the event. Empire Eats Catering created a thoughtful custom menu that included Provencal hors d’ouvres, such as “pommes frites” with a duet of dipping sauces, and an artisan cheese display with baked Brie, sliced apples and Marcona almonds. Lunch began with “vichyssoise,” a chilled soup of potato and leeks, and continued with a delightful herb quiche and a delicate but satisfying “salad nicoise” of seared tuna, assorted olives, hericot vert, and pomegranate seeds. For the final course, Cake Couture Boutique created an opulent and delectable dessert bar, complete with macaroons, éclairs, beignets, cake pops, miniature cupcakes, petifors, fruit tartlets, and a stunning two-tiered cake. The fashionable cake was adorned with pink ruffles, gold button details and a feminine blush bow, all atop a vintage French hatbox. As a gift for the guests, Posh Weddings & Events set up a stylish perfume bar, where Ava and her bridesmaids could design and create their own custom scents. A delicate arrangement by Teacup Floral stood beside various bottles of honeysuckle, white musk, vanilla, orange blossom, green tea and apple fragrances, as well as personal atomizers and recipe cards for inspiration. The ladies ended the luncheon by meeting the regal equestrian inhabitants of the Manor at Carriage Farm, and set off to prepare for tomorrow’s main event.

A Marriage of Tastes: Southern Elegance Meets Cowboy Charm When planning a wedding and the associated festivities, you are not only creating a union between two people, but also blending their unique personalities. In the case of Brittany and Jeffrey, Cathy Anna Designs wanted to plan a rehearsal dinner that seamlessly blended his cowboy charm and her Southern elegance. The Barn at Woodlake Meadows in Bear Creek was the perfect backdrop to this intimate gathering of friends and family.

the rehearsal party

Cathy Anna Designs chose a bold color palette of magenta and burnt orange with gold accents to play on the couple’s big personalities, and contrast with the rich wood tones of the venue. Warm colors were present in the bright flower arrangements and décor, including gilded horseshoes as a nod to the groom’s love of barns and horses. Blossom Floral Artistry designed several fantastic floral arrangements for the rehearsal dinner. An elegant mantelpiece above the fireplace anchored the décor and created a stunning focal point, while sunset-colored tulips, dahlias and magenta roses graced the farm tables in gilded vases. Tea lights arranged around the cozy wooden interior gave the space an intimate and warm ambiance throughout the evening. Classic Party Rentals of Raleigh provided the rustic farm tables and harvest chairs, which contrasted perfectly with their gold flatware, iridescent wine glasses, gold bubble chargers, and creamy ivory and gold Victorian china. Cathy Anna chose a mix of rustic burlap table runners and rich burnt orange chair ties accented by the golden horseshoes to complement the differing elements that made up the theme of the event. Desktop Diva Stationery created darling custom invitations, giving the guests a taste of the warmly-hued “country glam” evening that was to come, and Kate Pope Photography was on

hand to capture all of the fantastic moments of the evening in preparation for the big day! A delicious menu conceived by Rocky Top Catering included creative appetizers and gave guests the choice of lamb or salmon entrees. “Crudités shots” were a modern spin on traditional hors d’ouvres, with crisp vegetables resting in a tangy dill sauce. Chicken and waffles with roasted leek goat cheese and honey aioli played on the couple’s Southern roots, while proscuitto-wrapped scallops topped by cantaloupe corn salsa rounded out the first course. The salad course featured an elegant mixed green salad with “Southern Charm,” featuring grilled peaches, roasted corn, candied pecans (all staples on a Southern table), with lemon-thyme goat cheese and a Dijon vinaigrette. The entrée choices included a beautifully grilled salmon with a crispy jalapeño goat cheese grit-cake, local succotash and creamy tomato caper butter, as well as a grilled rack of lamb with Brussels sprout sautéed in onions and bacon, and silky sweet potato puree topped with Granny Smith apple slaw. Guests washed down their delectable meals with custom cocktails: ”Southern Bourbon Lemonade” and a “Moonshine Martini”, then retreated outdoors for even more surprises. A special “countdown” to the big day was showcased above the outdoor fireplace – this customized calendar is a special gift that Cathy Anna Designs creates for all of her happy couples. The reception also featured a custom S’mores bar with fixings, including three kinds of chocolate, round and square marshmallows, graham crackers and cookies. Dessert options also included beautiful tarts, chocolate covered pretzels, and a stunning “naked cake” by Confectionate Cakes. This captivating sweet treat was flavored in the style of banana bread, with a rich cream cheese icing and topped with sugared seasonal fruit. Beside the spread of deliciou desserts, the couple offered their guests jams and jellies from the Barn at Woodlake Meadows as wedding favors with a sign that read “Do us a Favor and Spread the Love!” Brittany and Jeffrey also treated their friends and family to corn hole, roasting marshmallows at the fire pit, and a dock to enjoy the sunset with orange and strawberry sodas as they toasted to the joyous celebration of the happy couple. 204

second time around It is becoming increasingly prevalent that many weddings are not the first time down the aisle for brides or grooms, and etiquette for the second weddings is a little different than the first time around. From guests to gifts, there are a few unwritten rules about saying “I do” part two.

Guest expectations | Who to invite? Chances are good that you and your first husband or wife share many of the same friends - you may even still be close to some of his family. So, who is it ok to invite and who to leave out? It’s another circumstantial decision. You may be best friends with your ex’s sister, so is it ok to invite her? Yes, send out invitations to whomever you like. If they are too uncomfortable to attend, they will make an excuse.

party rentals

your wedding venue transformations with rentals and dÉcor

While some reception venues are “wedding ready,” and require little to no additional decor, many facilities require the help of wedding rentals to transform the space into your dream event space. Rental companies like Classic Party Rentals, Party Reflections and American Party Rentals provide a seemingly unending selection of wedding rentals to help revamp any space into your perfect venue. From linens to tenting, these companies can match any style and taste and make the décor uniquely yours. Draping | Draping is the process of using

top10 wedding cocktails Your gown and shoes may not be the only things that are in style right now. Even cocktails go through periods of being en vogue or not. Remember how hot the Cosmo was after Sex and the City? Mojitos | Bring the feel of a tropical island no matter where you live to give your reception that laid back feeling to help your guests relax and enjoy the party. Sangria | Make your own batch and serve it up with ice in mason jars. This is a crowd favorite and can be designed to match your color theme. Jello Shots | Not just for frat parties anymore, this old-school favorite is fun for weddings, too. Another easy crowd pleaser and coordinating the colors is a snap! Hypnotiq Cocktail | Add your something blue with this cool cocktail. Mix it with white wine or a spritzer and serve chilled.

Bourbon Lemonade | Perfect for summer weddings no matter which side of the Mason-Dixon line you’re on. Bellini | This Italian cocktail adds a touch of elegance to any reception. Perfect for hot summer days! Cosmopolitan | This drink has had a long moment in the spotlight, and it continues to be a trendy pick for brides everywhere. Martini | It’s a classic. Just resist the urge to say “shaken, not stirred” every time you ask for it. Gin & Tonic | Add lemon zest or a cucumber to this classic for a refreshing twist in the summer. Manhattan | Give your reception a retro vibe and cool “Mad Men” flair with this classic drink. Of course, anything you offer at the bar will be appreciated by your guests, but you’ll add a touch of style to your reception if you choose one of these trendy cocktails. wm
