BEJEWELED: DIAMOND-SHAPED TRENDS FOR LADIES AND GENTS Wedding bands change with the trends, just like wedding gowns and tuxedos. Some styles, like the simple gold band, will stick around forever, but some are especially popular for a few years and then fade into the background. You may think you know exactly what you want, but staying updated on the hottest looks in wedding rings might just have you thinking twice!
MIXED METALS One of the hottest trends in wedding bands right now according to Megan Farrell of Diamonds Direct is to mix metals. The common layout is a platinum band with a gold line running through the center, but other design options are available. You can get bands that mix multiple metals together – not just two – or you can choose bands in different metals for the bride and the groom. Women can have an engagement ring in one metal and a wedding band in another. DARK BANDS Gunmetal bands are very popular, as are polished wood rings in dark tones like mahogany and chestnut. Megan explains that tungsten, cobalt, titanium and carbon fiber inlays are all popular choices for men’s wedding bands that provide a darker color. These rings have an edgier look that many men are more comfortable with, particularly if they are not used to wearing jewelry. MIXED STYLES You do not have to be limited to a simple band with an inlay or a unique setting. Many women are now choosing to mix up their styles by stacking a few rings together or by choosing one ring that mimics this look. These bands can have engraved designs on them, or they can be more simple bands that have elaborate settings. The effect is achieved by combining the different styles together. You can also custom design a ring with these mixed styles. Take your inspiration from rings you’ve admired throughout the years or come up with your own design.

CUSHION CUT DIAMONDS For engagement rings or wedding bands with diamonds, the cushion cut diamond is tremendously popular. This cut has a square shape with rounded edges. One reason it is so popular is that it tends to look great on both long and short fingers. Another reason for its popularity is that a high number of celebrities prefer this style. The cut is easier to achieve, so the diamond is not as expensive. FANCY SHAPES “Round brilliant diamonds have traditionally been the most popular choice for engagement rings,” Megan says, “but other choices are gaining in popularity.” Oval and pear shapes are especially popular choices. For those with a more niche aesthetic, the marquis cut is preferable for those who like a vintage look and the Emerald cut is a good choice for those who like the art deco style. Wedding rings have stayed within a range of traditional styles for a long time, but the modern push toward selfexpression has contributed to the rise of some unique styles. These are just a few of the trends that are popular now, but there are sure to be interesting new designs featured in the coming years. Majesty The Influence of Royalty on Wedding Fashion The Royals have always been a subject of fascination for Americans – perhaps because we don’t have anything resembling a monarchy, and the institution seems like something out of a storybook. The idea of royalty taps something in us that makes us think of noble possibilities. We may know that we will never actually be royalty, but that doesn’t stop us from wondering what it would feel like to be in such a lofty position. The closest that most of us get to feeling like royalty is on our wedding days. Brides in particular get to be the center of attention and veneration as they walk down the aisle in clothing and jewelry that is finer than any they will likely ever wear again. BIG, BOLD CROWNS The dainty tiara was big a few years ago as a bridal headpiece on its own, or as a substitute for the veil that many brides now see as dated. We’re now seeing a resurgence of popularity for the tiara, as well as the introduction of big, bold crowns. Many brides are now wearing thick, opulent crowns that are encrusted with all kinds of crystals, beads, and gemstones. They may not be the actual crown jewels - who has the budget for the real deal? But they look close enough! On-trend crowns tend to be larger versions of the tiaras that were once so popular, including monochromatic jewels or crystals against a silver or gold setting. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t really go big by choosing colorful crowns with gems that look like rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and whatever other precious stones you love.
EXTRAVAGANT GOWNS Even people who don’t care much about following the antics of the royal family could probably tell you about Princess Diana’s wedding gown, or at least easily point it out if they saw a picture of it. Her extravagant gown was instantly iconic, and it was all that we expected a future queen to wear as she walked down the aisle. Wedding gowns have always been big, but they are going beyond the ball gown skirt and reaching royal proportions. Skirts are getting fuller and longer – and sometimes both at the same time! When Kate Middleton married Prince George, her gown was simple and form-hugging until the skirt, but even that had a simple flair. It showed off its royal personality by extending into a long train that fell several meters behind the bride. Now, we’re seeing wedding gowns far from Buckingham Palace with longer and longer trains, as well.

One of the most popular love stories of recent memory, Titanic, prominently featured a former king’s love token known as “The Heart of the Ocean.” We tell stories about these jewels! You may not get to wear a 45-carat blue diamond around your neck on your wedding day, but that doesn’t meant that you can’t feel like a queen by wearing lavish jewelry with colorful stones! We’re seeing brides going big with their jewelry choices now, including large ruby earrings, stunning gem-encrusted collars, sapphire cuffs, and much more. Typically, wedding jewelry has been on the small side, with dainty pearls and diamonds in favor. LONGER VEILS You can’t wear a simple veil with such an extravagant gown! Brides are now embracing longer veils that can trail as far behind them as the trains of their gowns. Of course, when you opt for such a long and regal veil, you don’t want some simple netting or chiffon. More brides are also choosing veils that feature ornate lace or embroidery along the edges, and even some beading or other fine details.
TWO DRESSES After the ceremony, you will go to the reception and eat cake, sip champagne, and cut a rug all night long. More brides are opting to bring back the tradition of wearing two gowns on their big day. A different hairstyle can change your look from glamorous and sophisticated to romantic and carefree, or vice versa. LOOSE CURLS Beachy waves never really went out of style, but the style has been refined a bit. One of the biggest hair trends for weddings right now is to wear the hair down in loose curls. The curls should be lightly textured so that the style isn’t too sleek, but they shouldn’t be full beach wave. The look is classic and romantic, and it can be worn at any style of wedding and with any style of gown. It can also be worn with shorter hair – though the shorter the hair, the less length you’ll have available for the curl. Katelyn & Clayton Katelyn and Clayton were married in April at the All Saints Chapel in an intimate ceremony. Katelyn walked down the aisle in a strapless gown with a sweetheart necklace and lace overlay. She wore her hair in a low chignon and carried a bouquet of cream, blush, and pink roses and other blooms. She kept her accessories simple with a pair of drop earrings. Her bridesmaids wore long, sky blue gowns with an asymmetrical neckline and carried smaller versions Katelyn’s bouquet. Clayton wore a navy suit with a navy tie and a small boutonniere of a blush flower. The deep blue was so dark that it almost looked black, except when the fabric caught the sun. The dark suit created a nice contrast with the light colors in the bouquets and the gown fabrics. Friends played the music for the ceremony, from start to finish. At one point during the ceremony, Katelyn and Clayton’s parents circled around them and prayed over them for their future happiness and the success of their marriage. After the ceremony, guests went to the elegant MerrimonWynne House for the reception. The tables were dressed in

white and gold linens. One long table featured a continuous garland of greenery dotted with gold votives interspersed with very tall, white candles. Some tables were dressed with smaller centerpieces of cream, pink, and blush florals. A few key tables were adorned with tall, silver vases filled with an opulent display of cream, pink, and blush flowers. White lanterns with candles, small name cards with elegant print were placed at each table setting. Southern cuisine was served at the reception, including some favorite staples and comfort foods. After the meal, Katelyn and Clayton cut the cake, and family and friends toasted the newly married couple, making the audience alternately laugh and cry with their special words. The reception was vibrant and full of life. A live band created a high-energy atmosphere that made it impossible for guests to avoid the dance floor. The close-knit bunch loved celebrating together in honor of Katelyn and Clayton. It was a special day for Katelyn and Clayton, marking the perfect start to their marriage. It also gave them a special opportunity to be with their loved ones.

Hunter & Josh Hunter caught Josh’s eye when they were both students at East Carolina University. She was with a friend, and after Josh saw her, he kept asking the girl who her “blond friend” was. Finally, the friend introduced the two, but they started out as just friends. But the friendship slowly blossomed into something more as the two spent time together. In June, they were married in Raleigh, which is where Hunter grew up. The ceremony was held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, which is where Hunter’s family are members. Hunter wore a satin and lace Allure Couture gown that flowed down the aisle behind her as she walked. Pearls lined the dress. She wore a cathedral-length veil outlined with pearls that her mother wore on her wedding day. Her rounded bouquet included white roses, white gardenias, and a mix of summer white and blue hydrangeas. Her bridesmaids wore champagne gowns and carried bouquets that complemented her own. After the ceremony, guests moved to the Carolina Country Club for the elegant reception. Guests were able to enjoy

drinks, delicious food, and delightful conversation as they awaited the arrival of the newly married couple. The reception was decorated in similar colors to the ceremony. Gold linens draped the tables, and centerpieces of hydrangeas, roses, and bells of Ireland were arranged in blue and white chinoiserie vases. Multiple food stations were set up and included pork tenderloin, shrimp and grits, a mashed potato bar with multiple toppings, mini cheeseburgers, Thai chicken, mini crab cakes, and a fresh summer fruit display. Guests were also treated to a traditional, four-tiered cake featuring horizontal textures on each of the layers. Flowers intertwined the cake, creating a stunning design. The cake was topped by a Waterford porcelain couple. The Band Punch from Eastcoast Entertainment kept guests dancing throughout the night in celebration of Hunter and Josh. When the night came to a close, guests treated Hunter and Josh to a romantic rose petal toss as they made their way to Hunter’s dad’s red 1987 Corvette.

Nicole & David Nicole and David grew up together, and they lived only a few miles apart throughout their childhood and even as adults. They were best friends, and then they were sweethearts.
a clear acrylic filled with soft pink flower petals. Behind it was a wall of greenery with the letters N and D spelled out in cream and blush blooms.
They were married at The Umstead Hotel and Spa on a beautiful spring day. The ceremony took place in front of the lake. Nicole and David pledged their love to one another under an altar draped in blush chiffon and topped by cream and blush florals. Magnificent floral displays that were taller than some of the guests decorated the aisles.
The reception feast included some of the most delicious comfort food. The five-star dishes included short ribs, creamy grits, shrimp, rosemary a jus, and summer vegetables. The meal was followed by the cake, which was a real show stopper. The five-tiered cake featured different sized layers with a quilting design on some layers, edible gold lace on other layers, and buttercream roses. A cascade of edible blooms also ran down the side. The cake was a true masterpiece.
The beautiful ceremony reflected their deep love for one another and their religious faith. The couple encouraged guests to enjoy the “unplugged� ceremony by turning off their cell phones and putting away their cameras so they could truly be in the moment for this fairy tale wedding 20 years in the making. Guests moved inside The Umstead for the reception, where the tables were decorated with navy linens and topped with centerpieces of cream, blush, and pink florals. Some centerpieces rested in gold vases, and some were tall sprays similar to those featured at the ceremony. The head table was

Nicole and David danced the night away with their friends and family in celebration. Deep Rooted, a live band, played for hours to the delight of the guests. The couple enjoyed many toasts with loving words from some of the closest people in their lives. At the end of the celebration, guests gathered around Nicole and David to shower them in colorful confetti as they walked off into their happily ever after.

Chauna & Duan Chauna walked down the aisle in a wedding gown from the Galina Signature Collection that featured a form-fitting bodice and skirt down to the mid-thigh. She carried a bouquet of white blooms interspersed with florals in shades of purple. Her bridesmaids wore long gowns in different shades of purple.
To pull the look together, the head table was decorated with an elaborate floral runner with brightly colored blooms in purples and pinks. The couple sat at a loveseat with pillows that said “Mr. Right” and “Mrs. Always Right.” Above the head table was a hanging centerpiece decorated with fern leaves, lush greenery, and pink and white blooms.
Duan wore a dark grey suit with a white shirt and blush tie. He wore a pink rose boutonniere. His groomsmen wore the same ensemble, but they had patterned ties in different shades of purple.
Guests were served through various meal stations that included macaroni and cheese, shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and grilled steak stations. The meal was followed up with gourmet cupcakes and wedding cake. The wedding cake reflected the rustic theme, and each layer was designed to look like the bark of a tree. The initials “C+D” were “carved” in the frosting inside a heart.
The ceremony and reception were decorated with extravagant floral displays with lush greenery interspersed featuring cream, pink, and purple blooms. The reception featured both long farm tables and traditional round tables. The wooden farm tables were decorated with long swags of greenery and white candles in clear pillars. Greens hung from the wooden ceilings, and twinkle lights adorned the ceiling. The round tables were covered with elaborate floral centerpieces with flowers in shades of pink and purple.

Chauna and Duan treated their guests to a cigar roller on the outside patio. Guests could experience and enjoy a handrolled cigar for themselves. Chauna and Duan asked guests to sign a square of fabric that would be used to create a quilt. Deborah & Alexis After seven years of dating, Deborah and Alexis joined their lives together in an elegant and romantic ceremony at The Bradford, a beautiful historic home with manicured gardens, a terrace, and a ballroom. The couple said their “I Do”s outside under a garland of greenery just as the sun was setting. It was a perfect fall day that turned into a gorgeous, clear night for romantic dancing and celebrating. Inside The Bradford, the reception was decorated with lace, blush linens and mixed centerpieces. Some tables were topped with golden lanterns and greenery, a mix of small candles, and golden vases. Each setting included Asianinspired dishware with a blue design, accompanied by a navy linen. The dishware was chosen to reflect Deborah’s Korean heritage. Lots of candle light and hanging market lights were used to decorate the reception space and accentuate the romantic ambience of the celebration. Guests were treated to a meal of delicious comfort food. On the menu were chicken and waffles, braised short ribs, red roasted potatoes, and green beans. Shrimp cocktail and

tomato bruschetta were offered as appetizers. When the meal was over, Deborah and Alexis cut their cake and enjoyed toasts made in their honor. The cake was a three-tiered creation with a slightly ruffled buttercream design. Pale pink roses were placed on each layer like a cascade, leading to a small bunch of three roses and greenery at the bottom layer. The cake was topped with a gold “Mr. and Mrs.” metal sculpture. Other décor throughout the space include a picture with quotes from the bible about the nature of love, candelabras, and florals put together by Blossom Artistry. As dusk gave way to night, guests enjoyed dancing under the stars and the twinkle lights. They alternated between spirited dance numbers and slow, romantic songs. A few popular line dances were also thrown into the mix. At the end of the night, everyone lined up to create an archway of sparklers. Deborah and Alexis stopped for a kiss in the middle of the aisle while the photographer snapped a picture and everyone cheered for the happy couple.

Rachel & Jonathan Southern charm and tradition marked the nuptials of Rachel and Jonathan, who was born and raised in Raleigh and whose parents both graduated from N.C. State University (his dad even played football there!). Their September wedding had a “Southern boho chic” vibe, and it was designed to reflect the couple’s personality, roots, and tastes. The ceremony featured a gorgeous flower curtain and cross, showing off the couple’s religious faith. Rachel also carried a bouquet that had a small bible and charm attached to it. Pat Peri offi ciated their ceremony, helping them to become husband and wife before god and their family. The reception featured décor that reflected the rustic, Southern theme. A red sofa was positioned next to a fire pit with the pasture in the background. Logs and flowers were used, creating a perfect contrast for the bohemian vibe. Rachel and Jonathan sat at a sweetheart table with a china setting. A faux log fire created romantic ambience. Guests were asked to sign in at a remembrance table as well as to contribute to a photo book for the celebration.

The Chapel Hill Restaurant Group set up a delicious burger bar for guests to enjoy. The meal was followed by a similar buffet of selections for dessert. Not only could guests enjoy some of the wedding cake, but they could also choose from treats like donuts, mini cupcakes, and candy. Those who didn’t have the room to sample all the delectable treats could create a to-go bag of some desserts. The bride coordinated all the music with Jason Barnes of K2Productions, and the couple dedicated all the songs to the bridesmaids, as well as to the couple’s parents and their grandparents. Rachel’s dad surprised (and delighted) everyone when he got up and danced with Rachel and her bridesmaids to “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).” Guests were also able to enjoy lawn games while taking in beautiful views. It was a perfect day to be outside and celebrating amongst friends and family. At the end of the night, Rachel and Jonathan were ushered out under an archway of sparklers held by their guests. Their wedding was just the start of the next chapter in their long love story.

Alexandria & Paul Because Alex and Paul are both so close to their families, they wanted to have an intimate ceremony to reflect that. Paul, who is a soldier in the Special Operations Unit of the Army, was also flanked by his military brothers. The flower girl, Prestyn, wore an exact replica of Alex’s wedding dress that was custom made for the occasion.
The tables were dressed in white linens with navy napkins, and guests sat on mahogany chairs. The rustic sweetheart table was decorated with candelabras, white flowers, greenery, and a Mr. and Mrs. sign. Chalkboards with bible verses were placed at posts throughout the reception. One table at the reception was dedicated to the fallen soldiers.
Chaplin Trimble performed the ceremony at the Bethesda Presbyterian Church. Harpist Erin Jones played during the ceremony, and eight riflemen lined the aisle to perform a rifle arch as the couple left the alter.
A dinner buffet was served with Southern favorites including pulled pork, barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and mashed potatoes. The cocktail hour included a fruit and cheese display. Beverages were southern classics sweet tea and lemonade, as well as wine and beer.
After the ceremony, guests moved to the Fair Barn to enjoy a cocktail hour and then the reception. As the couple arrived, and just before the reception started, guests were asked to come outside to enjoy a special entrance from Special Ops parachuters. The men carried an American flag flying high. The reception was decorated with white drapery hanging from the rafters and accented with white lights. The décor was an elegant contrast to the rustic setting. Tables were topped by gorgeous white flowers and greenery, lanterns, custom table numbers, and personalized “thank you” notes.

After the delicious meal, guests enjoyed the wedding cake designed by The Bakehouse. The white cake had fresh strawberry crème between the layers, and it was decorated with buttercream icing in a combing effect. The couple’s monogram was on the front of the cake. The night ended with a sparkler sendoff, followed by the couple driving away in an antique car. It was the perfect evening with loved ones, and Alex and Paul were ecstatic to start their lives together as husband and wife.

Jamie & Evan Jamie and Evan may have been born in different states, but when it was time to figure out where they wanted to get married, they could think of no better place than North Carolina, which they both called home for more than 20 years. North Carolina is the home of so many friends, family, and memories, so it was the ideal place to celebrate the culmination of their love story. Their vintage-inspired wedding was held at The Glenwood in Raleigh. Jamie said she fell in love with the garden feel of the space, which was surrounded by trees. The wedding ceremony and reception were decorated with soft, neutral undertones and hints of gold throughout. Natural greenery was added to compliment the soft blooms. Jamie and Evan were joined by six bridesmaids and groomsmen. The reception featured floral centerpieces with the neutral undertones inside mercury glass vases. Vintage brass candle holders were also on the tables, as well as other gold elements. The look was a mix of classic and modern aesthetics that blended perfectly together. The bride created

much of the dÊcor herself, with the assistance of a florist for the centerpieces. After the guests enjoyed a delicious meal and a selection of cake or cupcakes, they were up on their feet dancing the night away. The bride explained that music is a big part of the couple’s lives, and so they wanted to make music a key focus for their reception. They worked with the DJ to get just the right sound. Not only did the DJ get Jamie and Evan’s musical taste just right, but he also picked the right songs to get the whole crowd dancing. The couple said that no one stayed in their seat for practically the whole night. In addition to the music, there were glow sticks, fog machines, and uplighting to give the dance floor a little pizazz! At the end of the night, Jamie and Evan wanted to pay homage to something even more important in their lives: Their friends and family. Instead something traditional like a sparkler send-off or confetti toss, Jamie and Evan asked their friends and family to join hands to form an arch for them to pass through on their way out of the reception. Like any modern couple, they called for an Uber to get to their next destination.

Corey & Joe Corey and Joe were married at The Sutherland Estate and Gardens on a gorgeous, 70-degree day. They were worried that a projected hurricane might put a kink in their plans, but they didn’t even have a drop of rain. The couple decided to write their own vows for the ceremony, but they made a pact to write them on the morning of the wedding. They wanted to accurately capture how they were feeling on that momentous day. The wedding and ceremony featured florals prominently because Corey wanted them to be the central part of the décor. Joe even built the structure for the flowers to hang from over the head table. Another key part of the décor was the hexagon motif. Joe and Corey are big fans of board games. She looked at board game décor, but didn’t like anything she saw. Then she became inspired by the “Settlers of Catan” board game and decided to use the hexagon. It was included on the cornhole boards that Joe made, the dessert table, the candle holders, and even on the cake!

Guests enjoyed Southern fare for the reception meal, including a late-night snack of scrumptious mini ham biscuits. The couple chose the menu to be crowd-pleasing, but also light enough that people would still want to dance when they were done. And dance they did! Corey gave the DJ a mix of modern and traditional music, and he read the crowd to know when to play each song at the right time. The couple chose to skip the traditional reception exit, such as with a sparkler send-off or confetti toss. They didn’t want to have to stop playing the music or serving the drinks earlier to make time for it. Instead, they opted to stretch out every last minute of the party they could. Everyone left with a drink koozie favor with the quote about “Mawwage” from the “Princess Bride” printed on it. From the heartfelt toasts from best friends and family to the photo bus that captured all the memories, Corey and Joe had a fun and memorable night. Plus, they were finally able to marry their best friend!

Many brides are choosing bold looks that are more reminiscent of the runway, including false eyelashes, winged eyeliner and strong eyeshadow colors in shades of brown, gray and even purple. Many opt for airbrushing to create a flawless foundation and a complexion that is magazine ready. Some even get airbrushing to cover their tattoos to create a classic look for their wedding. These bolder looks are paired with strong, thick eyebrows and nude lips.
BOLD LOOKS
Many photos of celebrities that appear in magazines are made to look like they aren’t wearing makeup. In fact, they are wearing dozens of products to get that naturally effortless look. Many brides are choosing this “no makeup” look to create a soft, romantic look. The makeup used for this trend should complement your natural coloring. The idea is to highlight your features to make them pop. That may mean just a little mascara, some peach or pink shadows around your eyes and cheeks and some gloss. “NO MAKEUP” LOOK
NATURAL GLOW Giving your skin a dewy look will make it seem like you have a natural glow. You will seem like you have a light shining from the inside and have a naturally radiant beauty. Fortunately for those of us whose genetics don’t give that to us naturally, you can achieve it with makeup! The right highlighting (contrasted with contouring) will make your skin shine. The most important parts to highlight include the cheekbones, the inner eye corner and the line under your eyebrows. PINK, GLOSSY LIPS Pink, glossy lips can also give you a youthful glow.
Even if you select relatively subdued makeup, having glossy lips can make your overall look pop. Choose soft pinks that complement your skin tone and cover it with a shiny gloss that is either tinted with a complementary color or that is clear. Eye gloss does the same thing for your eyes that lip gloss does for lips. It is a creamy shadow that creates a wet, shiny look on your eyes that appears that a natural glow on your skin. Your eyes will pop with eye gloss. Just choose natural or neutral shades, like browns and pinks.

The ombre trend has infiltrated everything from wedding cakes to floral arrangements. It should come as no surprise that it’s part of a makeup trend, as well. The ombre lip includes two shades – one that is lighter in the middle part of your lower lip and a darker shade to fill in the rest of the lip. The lighter shade serves as a highlight that makes your lips look bigger and poutier, which can complement just about any look. OMBRE LIP
The right wedding makeup can have you looking like the glamorous goddess you want to be on your big day. The wrong makeup can create an undesired look of being tired, older, or lackluster. Keeping up with the trends can help you create a look that is contemporary and gorgeous. Just be careful that you don’t choose anything will look dated later – you don’t want your wedding photos to elicit the same response of those 80s’ photos with the bright blue eyeshadow!
COLORED EYELINER If you want to go really bold, you can choose a colored eyeliner. Purple is very popular, but you can also get away with blue or green. Use it to accent just one part of the eye, such as the outer corner, or you can use it for the full lower line. Use just enough of the liner to create a pop of color – not so much that you overwhelm your makeup.

Many women are nervous to take boudoir photos because they are selfconscious about appearing in their underwear (or in nothing at all) in front of a stranger and then having those images captured for posterity. “The best advice is to relax and realize that you are hiring a professional who will help you through the whole process,” says Cari Long of Hush Boudoir. “I guide my clients through wardrobe selection, very specific posing instructions, and facial expressions. It is my job to create images that showcase every woman in the most flattering and beautiful way.” You can bring your own lingerie or outfits to your boudoir photo shoot, or you may choose to wear some of the outfits that the photographer provides. Collect images on a secret Pinterest board for yourself with ideas about clothing, poses, and even facial expressions, and then you can share that board with your photographer. “For bridal boudoir sessions, clients can choose to bring their wedding lingerie, veil, wedding shoes and garter,” Cari explains. “Some bridal boudoir clients don’t bring bridal-type
lingerie, but choose to bring fun, sexy pieces. I recommend anything from bra and panty sets, corsets, sheer slips, bodysuits and even shapewear.” Sessions start with professional hair and makeup, so you don’t have to worry about getting the perfect look yourself. In fact, getting this pampering before the shoot usually helps you feel sexier and more relaxed. “All of my clients walk out the door saying it was so much fun and much easier than they thought!” Cari shares. Consider booking a shoot for yourself before your big day or as a special way to celebrate an anniversary. wm

SEATING CHARTS 101 Creating the seating chart may well be the task that give brides the most grief when planning their wedding. Where do they seat that uncle who always gets a little handsy after he drinks? Or how do you handle seating your group of college friends, two of whom dated and moved on to date others in the group, and another pair who won’t talk to each other after the epic falling out in senior year? The bigger the wedding is, the more complicated the seating chart can become. Even if you don’t have drama that complicates the seating, you may still get lost about where to sit who and why.
BRIDAL PARTY Your bridal party should sit at the head table with you or at a table designated just for them. It’s nice to also make room for their dates, but it’s not required. Just know that it will be a little awkward if you are expecting your maid of honor to sit with you the whole wedding while her boyfriend has to sit at another table. FAMILY Typically, family members sit together, and the closest family members will sit closest to the head table. That means that your parents will be together at a table right next to the head table, as well as any siblings you both have. After that, you can start mixing and matching going back. Try to put together family members who are similar in age or who have similar interests to keep the conversation at the table going. Mix up tables with members of the bride and groom’s family so they can also have a chance to get to know each other. FRIENDS Friends, acquaintances, co-workers, neighbors, and others all get seated at the remaining tables. Here’s where a lot of brides have trouble with the seating though. A lot of these people may not know anyone at the wedding except the bride or groom and their own date. Try to put people together that have similar interests. For example, put your co-worker who loves to bake at a table with your neighbor who is really into gardening and cooking. You can make it a little easier on your guests by putting some “getting to know you” questionnaires or other games at the table.

MAKING THE CHART The easiest way to actually make the chart is to get a big piece of poster board or project board and draw out the circles or squares for your tables. Put numbers on each of the spots, and then use Post It note flags to write in the names of the guests for each spot. The flags can be easily moved as you make adjustments to the seating arrangements. WEDDING THEME TRENDS FOR 2018 GREENERY
This is a twist on a garden wedding. Instead of plenty of flowers in an outdoor space, you opt for an abundance of greenery. Decorate with lavish garlands on the aisles and the tables, feature greenery prominently in the bouquets and the centerpieces, use greenery to garnish the cake, and maybe even create an altar of greenery. You can incorporate some small, white flowers into the greenery, or you can let the greens stand alone to create a bolder impact. VINTAGE
Vintage-themed weddings are designed in the muted versions of bright colors, like a pale teal, coral, mint, and yellow. Décor can include things like wire birdcages, lace doilies, vintage dinnerware, and vintage furniture. Inspired by the early 1900’s, these rustic pieces and worn designs translate beautifully into countless themes. You’ll also be able to easily decorate your wedding with a trip to your local thrift store! WOODLANDS

KEEPING GUESTS HAPPY AT YOUR RECEPTION Your wedding day may be your “big day,” but much of the effort you spend is to ensure that others enjoy the day as well. You’re asking your family and friends to be there for hours to support you, so the least you could do is throw them a good party!
From the food to the dancing to the ambiance, you should keep your guests in mind. You don’t need to get a rave review so you can win “best wedding ever,” but you should try to make your guests as happy to be at your wedding as you are.

CAKE TRENDS 2018 As with all things, trends in wedding cakes change! Ombre cakes used to be all the rage in, but they are slowly falling out of favor. The same goes for cakes covered in fondant flowers or crystals. If you want to be on the cutting edge of wedding style, you’ll need to look beyond these once favorite cakes. Some new trends are emerging that will give you exciting options for your big cake-cutting moment!
WATERCOLOR DESIGNS The white frosting that is so popular for wedding cakes is the perfect canvas for a beautiful hand-painted design. Bakers can use edible dyes and paint brushes to create gorgeous, watercolor art on wedding cakes. They can create everything from pastel florals to abstract designs that will make ombre look like child’s play. Your DJ should ideally be familiar with your venue, so should know exactly what might be needed for that site. FRENCH FETE It truly takes a village when it comes to producing a magazine and at Weddings Magazine, that village is comprised of our amazing vendors. So to show our gratitude to the amazing talents that make up this publication, we decided to go ALL out with a Provencal Party as only the French would do! Held at the picturesque Oaks at Salem in Apex, guests arrived to a celebration that overlooked a portrait worthy landscape, complete with sun setting over the glistening pond. Invitations were trendy and custom made, designed to set the tone to this gorgeous gala in complete French motif. Lush florals were draped throughout the oversized tent and decorated beautifully with greenery and blooms that reflected the French Provencal theme perfectly. An assortment of chairs and specialty linens paired with the 210

mixed patterned China was on the cutting edge of the most popular trends this year. Tables were set with unique local favors such as miniature honey pots and honeycombs that were functional and delicious! Tablescapes included Select Charcuterie & Cheeses, pickled vegetables, fresh and dried fruit, & french mustards. Passed appetizers were comprised of Lamb & Potato Croquettes, garlic aioli & chives, Canape of Roasted Beets with fines herbes and goat cheese on toasted baguette, and Canape of Grilled Tomatoes with roasted garlic, smoked crunchy salt, and basil. Then dinner, which included Chicken & Mushroom Roulade with fresh pistou served with fire roasted Ratatouille, smoked tomato butter purĂŠe, fingerling potatoes & noble herbes. Guests enjoyed live music and mouth-watering mini pies and self-service deserts at the end of the night, a huge trend in receptions right now. These days, more couples are choosing to keep the party going after the reception is over, heading out with a small group of close friends to really live it up in a way that you can only do when your parents aren’t around. DESTINATION AFTER PARTIES Don’t settle for the bar down the street; for the select few you invite to the after party – give them advanced warning that they need to pack for a short trip and be ready for fun. From Vegas to NYC, short flights can be inexpensive and quick to take just about anywhere, depending on your location. HOT TUB LIMO RIDE It’s time to kick back and relax by soaking in a hot tub with your loved one while you cruise down the highway in a limo. Have a cocktail bar ready and waiting with everyone’s favorites by planning ahead. Add neon lights to the cabin, put on some party music, and have a great time! If you keep the ride to you and your betrothed, you can make it a romantic start to your honeymoon. If you invite friends along for the ride, try to create a party vibe and make sure you have extra suits on hand. MASSAGES Weddings may be joyous events, but they can also be very stressful. You’ve spent months planning every last detail, and you’ve spent the whole day worrying about things like whether the cake would show up on time or whether your pushy aunt would instigate an argument. Don’t wait for the honeymoon to unwind – start relaxing right away by scheduling a massage for your after party.
Some places offer massages late into the evening, so you can potentially schedule them after your evening reception. You can decompress with your new spouse or a few people in your inner circle, talking about the things you loved about the day and bonding together over your new memories. Then you can head off to your hotel suite for a truly relaxing evening together. ROOFTOP BREAKFAST BAR Rooftop bars are popular for the night life, and a formal breakfast is a popular event for the day after the wedding. Why not combine the two? Hold a breakfast on a rooftop bar in the early morning hours after your reception or in the traditional breakfast hours the next day. The rooftop seating will be a refreshing balm whether you are trying to sober up after a long night of partying or you are trying to restore after the previous day’s festivities.
Traditional weddings are usually followed by a big reception where family and friends eat a meal, enjoy some drinks, have a slice (or two) of delicious cake and dance the night away. You get to see your grandma and grandpa cling sweetly to each other during one of the slow songs, and visit with college friends that you haven’t seen in ages.
MASQUERADE PARTY If you’re partying after the reception, play up the midnight intrigue by hosting a masquerade party. Choose a separate venue for the after party, and ask the guests you invite to show up wearing a fancy mask and the clothes to match if they feel so inspired. The more elaborate the costumes, the more special the atmosphere will be. Choose décor that is formal and a bit vintage. Consider giving guests a password that they have to share to get into the party to make it seem even more intriguing. Don’t stop at the reception. THE BARN OF CHAPEL HILL Farm weddings are white hot right now and The Barn of Chapel Hill is the epitome of what a perfect wedding setting should look like. The color of the year is greenery, and this shoot drew much of its inspiration from that. The barn and the surrounding setting offer an ideal location for a wedding styled in plenty of greenery. Garden weddings are frequently held in front of the pristine white barn with oak-colored doors. The addition of a large, green wreath and candle pillars is all that’s needed to dress up the front. The wreath also serves as a wonderful frame for an altar or for taking photos. A llama was brought in to take photos with the couple to create the vibe of a working farm. The white llama wore a wreath of flowers to create a whimsical and unforgettable photo with the couple. The natural pergola draped in lush greenery offered a beautiful framing device for the wedding cake. In this shoot, the cake is kept simple to let the greenery around it stand out more. Although the cake is piped to look like the bark on a birch tree, the frosting is kept white for a more understated look. Less is more here, and a few sprays of greenery are enough to make a statement with the elegant design.

Floral arrangements do not have to be as refined for a botanical boho wedding, but you don’t have to go as rustic as picking wildflowers either. The bouquet features sprays of greenery and wildflowers that are arranged perfectly for a stylish design. The reception set up features more classic blooms like roses and peonies, but the overall tone is maintained with the contrasting wildflowers, berries, and greenery. Copper and gold tones are used throughout the reception décor to highlight the theme and provide an elegant touch. Birch-inspired chargers are paired with gold flatware, and natural wood beams are dressed with copper lanterns. A string of green fronds is used to display the white table cards, providing a lovely contrast between the colors. Other lovely touches included a hand-printed chalkboard wall. Getting married at a farm – whether it is still a working farm or is offered just for pictures and events – gives you the opportunity to create lovely décor that will provide a beautiful backdrop for your unforgettable wedding celebration.

ALL SAINTS CHAPEL All Saints Chapel was built in 1875 and was carefully preserved after it was saved from demolition a little over a decade ago, and each detail is true to the reality of 19th century living. The quaint white chapel did not require much decoration for the vintage-styled wedding shoot from Jennifer V. Events. Outside, only a few garlands were hung on the white, wooden doors, including simple white flowers and dark greenery. Just two blooms, a nest of leaves, and white ribbons trailing down were enough to add charm and whimsy to the chapel doors. Wooden, chivari chairs were lined up for the intimate ceremony and sprays of greenery and white blooms were attached to the chairs. The altar was flanked by tall candlesticks and dressed with an elegant arrangement of white flowers on a bed of dark greens. Lace covered the classic guest book table, as well as the tables at the reception. The bride in this shoot also wore a lacy, vintage wedding gown. She carried an elaborate bouquet of many blooms all in white, accented by long sprays of dark greenery shooting out on all sides. The bouquet trailed nearly to the floor as the bride held it in front of her at the aisle.

Diminutive gold votives and understated centerpieces of white blooms flanked by a few stems of dark greenery topped the reception tables. Other tables featured tall, clear pillars with floating candles inside. A few key tables had more elaborate centerpieces of lush white blooms with sprays of white flowers shooting up from the center like a fountain. China with gold edging and gold flatware provided a stately setting for the reception meal, which included a main entrée of steak and lobster with grilled corn and tomatoes, braised beef, crostini with fresh fig and honey, a salad of fresh greens, and appetizers inspired by early 1900’s cuisine. The wedding cake was the piece de resistance, and it reflected the vintage theme well. The cake was a four-tier creation with different textures on each layer. Ruffles, gold lace, marbling, and pearls adorned different layers of the cake, and white flowers were the flourish on the top. The cake was displayed on an ornate, gold riser. The style shoot proved that weddings don’t have to follow the latest trends to be beautiful. Vintage style is classic and beautiful, and this shoot showed what’s possible by dipping into our retro roots.

BRIDAL SHOWER AT TRAINE Some sorority bonds go far beyond the college years – they last for life. Those sisters continue to celebrate one another as they get married, have children, and progress in their careers. Those bonds and a recent bride who was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc were the inspiration for this feminine and romantic bridal shower theme at Traine in Raleigh. The sorority’s colors are green and pink, and you can see them in everything from the soup and drinks served at this gourmet luncheon to the flowers and linens that adorned the tables. Different textures were used in everything from the table linens to the centerpieces to create a charming contrast with the industrial feel of the venue, which is a historic seaboard railroad station. A farm table was draped with a sheer lace linen to accentuate that contrast. The indoor cocktail tables were dressed with lace linens with a pink liner, while those outside on the patio sported crushed taffeta linens. The outdoor space had flowing curtains of white chiffon against a backdrop of bright green boxwood panels. The luncheon menu included green soup with a pink floral accent, scallops over a bed of greens, bruschetta with

tomatoes and red onions in various shades of pink. It was topped off with pink cocktails. The cake featured a watercolor design that matched the watercolor on the invitations and featured a smooth, white canvas of frosting, large pink flowers and green leaves. The same flowers and colors were printed on the invitation. Personalized touches were used throughout the luncheon. A vintage style golden-framed mirror welcomed everyone to the shower with a hand-drawn message in a lovely script. The champagne flutes painted in gold with the names of the guest served as favors. (The champagne was pink, of course!) Each place setting featured a name card in pink script. The style shoot at Traine showed that a theme doesn’t have to be complex to make a statement. Choosing two colors and a general tone for the event is enough to give you plenty of options for décor and food, creating a beautiful event that will be sure to make an impression. Be sure to keep the venue in mind when planning so that you can capitalize on the elements that are already there, either to incorporate into the décor or to create a nice contrast.

Here’s a guide to what some wedding related services cost in and around the Triangle. Keep in mind, we can only provide a range quality and specifics. Final selections determine the final price.
ACCOMMODATIONS Reserving a block of rooms at one of the Triangle’s full service hotels should garner one of their better rates. Expect to spend $85 to $215 per night, depending on the hotel you select and the time of year. CEREMONY FACILITY RENTAL FEES If you’re not a member of the church hosting your ceremony, site fees typically begin at $250 and can be as high as $1500. For non-church facilities, including gardens, B&Bs, and historic spaces expect to spend $1500$2000 for ceremony site rental. CEREMONY MUSIC Single musicians like harpists, organists and pianists generally cost between $150 and $300 for the preludes and ceremony. A string quartet should range between $575 and $1000 depending on the quality of the musicians. Soloists range from $75 to $300, depending on the number of selections required and the reputation of the singer. YOUR GOWN The prices of wedding gowns vary widely by designer, fabric quality and construction quality. At a national gown warehouse, you can expect to spend $200 to $800. Most local full service bridal salons carry gowns that range from $500 to $2000, with lots of selection at every price point. The local salons that carry couture gowns begin at $1500 and can go above $7000. Remember to count on $200 to $500 for alterations when you budget for your gown. Budget between $200 and $3000 when budgeting for your veil and accessories.

HAIR AND MAKEUP For bridesmaids, expect to spend between $25 and $40 for simple up-dos completed in a salon and between $12 and $30 for in-salon make up application. Typically, the bride is more expensive, due to the care and time taken with her makeup and hair. In a salon, expect to spend $40-100 for bridal hair and $20-50 for makeup application. On-site application is typically more expensive, but far more convenient and practical for a busy wedding day. Expect to spend $40-95 per maid for makeup and hair, and $200-$400 for the bride. If looking your best is of utmost concern, hire an artist for the entire day, which includes initial application and touch ups throughout the day. Plan to spend $1000 to $2500 for this luxury. INVITATIONS Prices and quality vary widely depending on the thickness and quality of the paper, the type of lettering you choose and finish details of the invitation. For 100 invitations, you should expect to spend $100-150 for a set from a mail order company. For 100 thermographed invitations from a mid-range supplier, expect to spend between $200 and $500 for the set. Custom designed, hand embellished and specialty invitations can cost from $300 to $1000 for 100. WEDDING CONSULTANTS Service fees for wedding consultants vary widely based on the number of hours you need and the reputation of the consultant. Day-of-services range from $500 to $2000 and full-serviceplanning ranges from $1500 to $7000. Be sure to thoroughly compare each consultant’s services. Many offer different combinations of services and

hours in packages, but call them by similar names. If you’re interested in a planner but can’t afford a package, ask about hourly consulting or associates. PHOTOGRAPHY Photographers prices vary based on the quality of the work, the skill of the artist, the hours of coverage, the amount and type of film shot, the type of processing, the number of finished prints and the type and quality of the album included. Expect to spend $5,000 to $11,000 on a top photographer, who’s work has been seen in national wedding publications. The second tier of photographers charge $3000 to $6000. There are a number of traditional and a few photojournalists charging $1000 to $3000. Consider having a great photographer for a shorter period of time. How many images of dancing do you need anyway? Opt for a smaller number of finished proofs and a longer coverage day from the best photographer you can afford. A few good images are always better than a lot of photos you don’t like. VIDEOGRAPHY Expect to spend between $700 and $5000 depending on the number of cameras covering your event and the amount of editing required on the finished product. Most couples spend between $1000 and $2000 on their wedding video. This includes one or two cameras, some editing, and several finished DVDs. RECEPTION FACILITY RENTAL FEES There may be no facility rental at private clubs, where fees are often waived for members. At hotels and banquet halls, the fee ranges from
$1000 to about $2000. Couples with a $20,000 budget spend about $1000 on facilities. Need to save money here? Ask if the facility fee can be waived if you meet a certain minimum. Or consider having your ceremony and reception in the same place – which may reduce the fee. TENTS Tent prices vary widely depending on the size of the tent needed. Expect to spend between $1000 and $4000 on a frame tent, depending on the size area you’ll need tented. Draping the interior of the tent can range dramatically, depending on your use of a stock ($1500 to $2000) or custom ($3000 to $15000) liner. Lighting also varies widely depending on the type of lighting selected, but expect to spend $400 to $2000 to light your tent. LINENS AND RENTALS Expect to spend $7 to $12 per table on basic white or solid color linens. Specialty linens, including prints and silks, can range from $15 to $28 per table. Chairs range from $2.00 for folding plastic chairs and $4.00 for white wood folding chairs to $6 to $8 per chair for chivari ballroom chairs or specialty bar stools. Candles, candelabras, centerpiece vessels, chargers, specialty china and more can all be rented locally, and are substantially less expensive than purchasing. FLOWERS The prices of flowers vary widely based on flower types and the labor required for arrangement styles. In general, you can expect to spend between $75 and $400 on your bouquet. Centerpieces for your reception range from $50-$100 per table for something small and simple to $350 per table for a large elaborate arrangement. BAR FEES Most reception facilities and caterers in the Triangle price alcohol based on consumption. This means you’ll pay only for the alcohol that your guests consume. Expect to spend between $14-28 per person if you’re offering a beer and wine bar for four hours. Remember, you’ll have to pay a service fee (generally 18-22%) and sales tax. THE CAKE Wedding cakes range from $2.50 per slice to $7.00 per slice. The average Triangle baker charges $4.00-$4.50 per slice. Keep in mind that there are slice minimums as well as delivery fees. ($50-75 is typical for a local delivery). THE FOOD This is your largest expenditure and the toughest to estimate. Hors d’oeuvres parties start at about $19 per person and can go as high as $72 per person. (We’ve even seen some $200 per person parties!) Price depends on the selections that you make with your caterer. Keep in mind that there is an additional fee for carvers, servers, and bartenders. This cost is either figured in a staff-cost expenditure, or it’s included in the 20% service fee. Though most couples don’t expect it, seated meals can sometimes be the most affordable option. Portion sizes are very controlled, so caterers know

exactly how much of each ingredient to order. Seated dinner prices range from $18 to $85 per person, with averages in most clubs and hotels around $35 per person. Buffet dinners are often the most expensive option. Caterers must prepare more of each item to ensure that they don’t run out of food and that means waste. Buffets generally start at $26 per person and go up to $60 per person, with averages around $38 per person. You’ll want to remember that you’ll have an additional 20% gratuity and 7% sales tax added to the final bill. TRANSPORTATION Traditional limousines are widely available in a variety of colors and sizes. Expect to spend between $100 to $155 per hour for a traditional limousine with a three-hour minimum on most weekends. There’s also a 15-20% gratuity added to the overall bill. Larger scale limos, limo SUVs and specialty cars are typically more expensive. RECEPTION MUSIC If you’re thinking of a DJ, budget between $800 and $1200 for a fourhour reception. The cost of bands vary widely. For a local party band with four to five members, plan on $2000 to $4000. If you plan to hire a band with more regional appeal or more members, you’ll need to increase your budget by as much as $4000. WEDDING FAVORS Favor costs vary depending on the item selected. Most couples spend between $2 and $5 per person on favors and packaging. UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE Linens in neutral colors like ivory, cream, champagne, and blush are on trend right now according to Mary Larick of CE Rental. The colors create a neutral backdrop and an understated elegance for any reception décor. If you want to add a bit of “wow” factor to the linens, choose metallic. You can keep the same understated colors but get a luxurious sheen.

TRENDWATCH 2018: WEDDING FOODS Forget about seated dinners with a choice of chicken or steak! Today’s wedding food trends are much more inventive and diverse. You can serve your guests everything from waffles to French fries and still feel like you’ve put on a stylish wedding. In fact, the more creative you are with your food choices or presentation, the more ontrend you will be.
BRUNCH OR BRINNER Ask all the people you know what their favorite meal of the day is, and you are likely to get “breakfast” as the overwhelmingly popular answer. What’s not to love about breakfast food? Even famous curmudgeon Ron Swanson had a soft spot for breakfast. Many couples are now hosting a wedding brunch instead of a dinner. Not can it be cheaper to get married during the day, but it also gives them the opportunity to serve the wildly popular meal. However, even if you want to get married in the evening you can still serve breakfast for dinner, or “brinner!” Set up a pancake bar, an omelet station, and a spread other breakfast favorites for a fun and unique wedding meal. FAMILY STYLE DINNERS Weddings are all about family, including those friends and neighbors that you are inviting to be a part of your family for the day. CORINNE & GIANPAOLO A beautiful Outer Banks wedding
Corinne and Gianpaolo – known to their friends and family as Corey and Gianni – were married in a beautiful ceremony at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head in the Outer Banks on a lovely, late spring day. The ceremony on the beach had a breathtaking view of the waves crashing over the sand and the sun glistening on the water. They said their ‘I Do’s under a driftwood altar decorated with brightly colored blooms and lush greenery. Corey wore a simple yet stunning white gown with a sleeveless bodice and a long train. She carried a large bouquet of blooms in shades of pink with greenery jutting out on all sides. She wore her hair in a low chignon and kept her accessories simple. Her bridesmaids wore champagne gowns with cap sleeves and a slight train. They carried smaller bouquets of blush and cream flowers. Guests moved inside the Oceanview Hall for the reception. The tables were dressed with white satin linens and coral satin napkins. The centerpieces featured blooms in shades of pink, orange, and yellow, and they were nested on a bed of greenery. After a meal of southern favorites, guests were treated to a dessert bar that included cupcakes, chocolates, and – of course – wedding cake. The cake featured a nude design with barely there frosting. Pink roses and a bit of greenery topped the cake. At the end of the night, Corey and Gianni left amid rows of guests holding up glow sticks. The ambient lights provided a colorful leave against the night sky. It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful day, and guests cheered Corey and Gianni as they left to start the next chapter in their new lives together.

A beautiful Outer Banks wedding Erika and Lee were married along the Outer Banks, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the shoreline. Erika walked down the sandy aisle in a beautiful strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline and a full, flowing skirt. The dress included a bejeweled, blush sash tied around the waist. She carried a full bouquet of cream, blush, and pink flowers, interspersed with greenery. They said their “I Do”s under a natural arch created with driftwood and dotted with florals in the same shades as Erika’s bouquet. Behind them was a metal lattice panel where they placed an engraved lock of love, symbolizing their commitment. The reception was held at the Sanderling Resort. The room was decorated in shades of pink and gold. The tables were covered in pink linens, as well as runners with gold sequins. Table décor included gold candle holders and pillars in different sizes, gold bottles, gold table signs, and scattered florals. Gold hoops covered with greenery and florals hung from the ceiling. Twinkle lights also hung from the ceiling and were draped down accent walls. Guests were invited to enjoy a cupid-like game of archery on the lawn. They could shoot their arrows into targets shaped like hearts. As the evening sky darkened, the venue was accented by twinkle lights and candles throughout. It was a magical evening that was accentuated by the romantic décor and the excitement of celebrating young love.

HONEYMOON MUST-HAVES Whether you’re headed to a tropical island with visions of piña coladas in your head, or you’re going to stroll along the Seine hand-in-hand for your honeymoon, there are certain things you need to take along to ensure that things go smoothly. Some things will be location-dependent – such as your itsy-bitsy bikini for that tropical beach, or a stylish scarf for your wanderings through the streets of Paree. But other things are universal, and they will help make your honeymoon all the more enjoyable without the worry.
PORTABLE CHARGER You’ll be using your phone to get directions, to take pictures, to post on social media, and to check in with people back home. Most importantly, you can use it if you get lost or get into any trouble during your vacation. Don’t get stuck with a phone that’s out of battery. Take a portable charger with you so you can keep your phone ready to go no, matter how long you’ve been living it up outside your hotel room. TOTE BAG You may have a really cute purse that you love, but you’ll need to ditch it for your honeymoon. It just won’t cut it when you’re out and about and need to carry your travel documents, bottles of water, snacks, and other essentials. Along the way, you’ll pick up souvenirs and other mementos, and your purse will soon be packed. Instead, bring a stylish tote bag that can double as your purse and your catch-all for vacation necessities and souvenirs you pick up while you’re enjoying yourself. GOOD WALKING SHOES No matter where you go for your honeymoon, you are likely to do a lot of walking. You’ll be exploring the sites, and that will usually mean walking from place to place. Even single locations can require a lot of walking to see it all. For example, have you ever been to the Louvre? You can easily log miles walking from exhibit to exhibit! Make sure you have comfortable shoes so you won’t have to leave early or end up miserable. SELFIE STICK Selfie sticks have garnered some users a bit of ribbing because they can seem vain. But when you’re on vacation, they are essential. How else are you

going to get those perfect couple shots in front of the Eiffel Tower or the Grand Canyon? Yes, you can ask someone to take the photo for you, but that can get annoying after a while. Just take the selfie stick and get the photos you want without the worry! SUNDRESS A simple, stylish sundress should be considered a wardrobe essential for your honeymoon – unless you are traveling somewhere north in the winter. You can wear the right sundress when you are strolling along the beach or lounging in the park during the day, as well as when you are heading out to a romantic dinner or drinks in the evening. You can dress it up or down with the shoes and jewelry you select. Having a staple like this can help you save space in your suitcase as well. TRAVEL JOURNAL Every detail of your trip may seem vivid while you are on your honeymoon, but as soon as you get home and your focus starts to shift to getting back to reality, the details can start to get fuzzy. You may forget the names of places you went or even some of the things you did. You can even look at photos and come up with a blank. Take a travel journal with you to write down the details as you go, and you won’t forget a thing even years from now! In addition to these essentials, pack things you’ll need for your location, such as sunblock for tropical locales and chapstick for snowier spots. Pack the right things, and you’ll feel comfortable and at ease all through your honeymoon, which is just as it should be! wm

BEACH WEDDING DEVASTATION DIVERTED! THE HEAT Unless you’re getting married on a fall or early spring day somewhere in the north, it’s going to be hot when you get married on the beach. There may be some breeze coming across the water, but don’t count on it being enough to keep your guests comfortable. Keep your guests focused on your nuptials by providing some hand fans and waters during the ceremony. Don’t forget your own comfort! Choose a gown and suit that “breathe.” Consider going shoeless, and keep accessories like veils or vests to a minimum. THE WIND Sometimes, you get a hot, stifling beach with little wind. Sometimes, there’s so much wind that your veil is whipping around your head and there’s sand flying in your eyes. Consider putting up a canopy around the ceremony, or at least some windblocking sheets at the sides of the seating areas. You won’t be able to completely block any gusts of wind that kick up, but you can shield guests from the worst of the blows, and from anything the wind might toss at them. THE RAIN Summer showers can appear in a flash, and they can drown out your wedding and ruin the hair and makeup you spent hours on. Either have a tent ready for cover, or be prepared to go to an indoor site next to the shore or a short ride away. You may have to take a pause in the middle of the ceremony, but it will be better than standing in the rain and showing up to your reception completely soaked. THE BIRDS Seagulls are aggressive scavengers, and they have no compunction about
where they do their business. They can become a nuisance to your guests, or worse, leave an unwanted “present” in someone’s hair. You can make your ceremony area less enticing by ensuring that there are no food items present anywhere. Ask ushers to ask guests not to feed the birds.
Getting married on the beach
THE NOISE The waves crashing against the shore look beautiful, but they are also noisy. Add that to the wind, and people are going to be straining to hear you declare your undying love for each other. Make sure you have a microphone and speaker system set up. Check out the site ahead of time to figure out how you can get electricity to where you are, and talk to your planner about the best options for audio set-up.

A few of the hottest places to get married are not places you might expect. Some are off the beaten path, and some are unexpected gems that you didn’t know existed.
MIAMI Party in the city where the heat is on! Miami is one of the hottest places to get married in the U.S. – literally and figuratively. Whether you want to party like a celebrity, or you just want a romantic beach wedding, Miami offers venues galore that provide stunning backdrops, easy access to some of the best beaches in the country, and plenty of nightlife for the after-party. Get married in one of the many fivestar hotels along the coast in South Beach, or host a simple ceremony by the waves at sunset. Whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong with the South Florida scenery behind you. ICELAND Iceland may be one of the coldest places in the world, but it’s also one of the hottest places to get married. Unlike what its name suggests, Iceland has a landscape with more than glaciers and snow-covered hills. You will have your pick of gorgeous locations to get married, such as the notable Reynisfjara black sand beach, the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and the basalt cliffs of Arnarstapi. You don’t even need a permit to get married at one of these public sites. Plan for your trip accordingly! Temperatures are low throughout the year, barely rising above 60 in the summer. Plus, you’ll have to meet the legal requirements to get married, which will require submitting paperwork two to six weeks ahead of your wedding date. A U.S. CASTLE Your dream is to get married in a castle in France or Ireland but you may not

The Biltmore Estate in North Carolina was modeled after Versailles in France, and Fonthill Castle is a medieval castle in Pennsylvania. You have your choice of styles and settings to create the wedding atmosphere that you want. BALI Whether you want to get married on a tropical beach, next to a lush forest, or at the top of a mountain, you can do it all in Bali. The beautiful country is a tropical oasis, but it also has plenty of rustic scenery with its mountains and forests. You can have any kind of ceremony you want, and you can enjoy gorgeous pictures in a variety of settings. Bali is a popular vacation spot, as well.
