weddings are alive and well in the triangle Weddings are alive and well in the Triangle and the 2014 issue of Weddings Magazine certainly showcases that! The talent and creativity of our local wedding professionals never ceases to amaze us. As you utilize this issue during your planning, keep in mind all the beautiful photo shoots you see were shot locally right here in the Triangle allowing our readers to find and obtain exactly what they see and like. Bridal fashion is always of upmost relevance to us here at Weddings Magazine and each year we strive to bring you not only gorgeous gowns and accessories, but stylized shoots and photographs that will jump off the pages and wow you. Weddings Magazine and James Walters of www.waltersandwalters.com collaborated to bring you an Avant Garde photo shoot complete with bold hair and makeup, custom veils and hairpieces, and statement jewelry. Avant Garde means to be different, experimental and new and we thought that was the perfect theme for brides planning their wedding in 2014. This year, our floral shoot boasts some of the most unique and whimsical to the timeless and classical tablescapes and bouquets. Each florists’ creation leaps off the pages portraying vibrant color palettes while utilizing hard and soft elements to bring out the texture and colors of the flowers. Marbles Museum in downtown Raleigh provided a colorful and fun cake shoot. Though it is a childrens museum by day, at night this beautiful venue can be transformed in to an elegant and open reception space. Our cakes stood majestic, colorful, elegant and whimsical among the colorful backdrops. We are especially excited to showcase our style shoots this year. Our ideas were brought to life by some of the best wedding planners the Triangle has to offer and we hope that they will inspire you when planning your rehearsal dinners, bachelorette parties and intimate gatherings. We hope you enjoy and get inspired by our entire photo and style party shoots as well as the nine real weddings from our talented wedding planners. And visit our web site, www.weddings-magazine.com, for more inspirational galleries, upcoming events and real weddings. Remember to patronize our wonderful vendors and we wish you the best during your planning and a wonderful life!

the reception

warm receptions It’s true what they say: “It’s all about location, location, location!”. Atmosphere is everything when planning your dream wedding. You want somewhere comfortable and accomodating but uniquely you at the same time. Your reception will be a reflection of your personality and will continue on with the theme of your wedding. When you are planning your big day, push all of those ballroom and banquet hall brochures aside and start thinking outside of the box! hotels Hotels are a classic place to hold wedding receptions, but when you decide to have your reception at this venue, think outside of the ballroom. Many hotels have large balconies or patios, they also have vast pool areas that would work beautifully for an outdoor wedding reception. If you choose a pool area, you can take advantage of this blank canvas for decorating. For example, you can extend a clear platform over a portion of the pool and use this as the place to put the wedding cake or even the dance floor! Floating, flameless candles and flowers scattered throughout the soft blue water underneath a glowing string of lights can transform any average hotel pool into the reception location of your dreams!

the engagement ring

thinking outside the box rings and bling that go beyond the traditional diamond You don’t always have to break the bank to get engaged - these trends buck the traditional diamond in favor of a variety of stones, gems and precious metals. Here are some of the hottest trends for 2014. sapphires | Less expensive than diamonds but just as regal, sapphires make a bold statement. Choose an antique setting for a dramatic look. rubies | They are the color of love, and they will shine on an engagement ring. Opt for simple or ornate to suit your style. colored diamonds | Okay, so they won’t help you save, but they will stand out from the usual engagement fare. Yellow, black and pink are popular choices for a show-stopping stone. no stone | While a stone may be traditional for engagement rings, a simple band can look just as beautiful. You can save money and get a ring that reflects your unique style while starting a new tradition. Choose from traditional bands like platinum or gold, or go with something new like titanium or rose-gold. Depending on the material, there are a variety of colors to choose from.

Every engagement ring should be as unique as the woman who wears it, and valued not for what it is, but what it symbolizes. Think outside the box, and choose a ring that you will be in love with forever! wm

For a fashion shoot as special as this one, we knew that we needed to find a location that was both unique and compelling. Our vision for the shoot was an avant garde editorial feature, and the beautiful Hampton Inn & Suites Raleigh Crabtree Valley exceeded our expectations with its gorgeously textured wallpapers, eclectic dĂŠcor and provocative designs. on garde! In addition to being a

declaration of love for your partner, weddings are also an opportunity to showcase your personal style in a memorable place and time. Some brides embrace tradition in all aspects of their wedding, while other risk-taking brides seek artistic and visually interesting details that will set their wedding apart from the average affair. With high-fashion bridal styles becoming more accessible every season, avant-garde wedding fashions are becoming a top trend for the coming year.

“Avant-garde”

can be used to describe everything from

people, to fashion, to works of art that are innovative and experimental. If your individual style is constantly evolving and you are always taking risks with fashion-forward and cutting edge clothing, accessories and beauty trends, consider adding some avant-garde elements to your wedding look! The most enjoyable aspect of avant-garde fashion is that it can mean something different to every bride, whether it be a unique detail or an over the top ensemble. Vangaurd wedding fashion could include an abstract hairstyle, sculptural veil or headpiece, or a dress with a head turning silhouette or non-traditional colors or details. When it comes to weddings, the buzzword simply means pushing the boundaries of traditional bridal style and choosing something just a little different or unconventional. Without losing sight of what this special day means for you and your fiancé, you should be able to have fun with your bridal style in a way that makes you feel the most beautiful. We chose to embrace this en-vogue style trend for our 2014 fashion editorial spread, creating extravagant bridal looks with voluminous and sculptural veils, resplendent statement jewelry, and conceptual hair and makeup. The matrimonial headpieces from Beatrice Couture Designs ranged from billowing tulle chapeaus to delicately formed millinery, that could easily find a place on the runways of Paris. Bold and dazzling jewels from Margaret Rowe elevated each look, with oversized cuffs, larger than life rivierie and glamorous baubles. Beauty stylists Stewart and Sophie created dramatic and adventurous styles for hair and makeup, with emphasis on texture, volume, commanding eyes and defined cheekbones. In order to highlight these daring ensembles, photographer James Walters photographed the models against the various subtly patterned backgrounds at the Hampton Inn Crabtree of Raleigh, creating stark contrast with dramatic lighting.

Artistic elements like the ones we utilize for our fashion editorial spread can be added to your wedding day style from head to toe, and we’re here to lay out a roadmap to avant-garde bridal attire and accessories. Starting at the very top, an elegant wedding veil is a staple for conventional bridal style. Veils add an air of mystery and subtle sexiness, and the act of lifting the veil during the ceremony is a physical representation of entering a new chapter of your life. Veils are also the perfect place to showcase an eclectic personal style by putting a striking twist on an old favorite. Dramatic length and volume are stunning and daring, while dainty a top hat, a crown of fresh florals, or an ombré veil dip-dyed in one of your wedding colors can be bold and visually interesting. Set the stage for your unique veil with a creative up-do. A talented hair artist can help you take your wedding day do to the next level with lots of exaggerated volume and chaotic texture, blunt bangs, or an artfully sculpted chignon. An unexpected hairstyle is the perfect compliment to an over-the-top veil or headpiece, or will shine beautifully on its own. While your wedding day isn’t always the best time to experiment with artistic makeup – after all, your groom should recognize you as you start your walk down the aisle, there is always a little room for some adventurous beauty techniques. A dramatic cat-eye, bold brows, angular blush or a dramatic lip color is the perfect place to start with an avant-garde makeup look, without erring into the unrecognizable. Use makeup to highlight your favorite feature, and bring the beauty all the way down to your nails, with a bright pop of color (for your something blue?) or an intricate design or pattern.

Your wedding gown is where your personal style really shines, and there are so many ways to add a touch of high fashion to your wedding day look. Play with the traditional convention of length, opting for a textured tee-length gown or a trendy high-low hemline. Anything that isn’t white for a wedding gown is always a daring choice, whether it is a touch of colorful detail, metallic accents, or a dip-dyed ombré showstopper. Prints and patterns are also trendy and unconventional for wedding dresses, while a sculptural element at the shoulder or bustle can be elegant, vogue and dramatic. Take your wedding day jewels to the next level with colored gems, oversized earrings, cuffs and necklaces, or layers and layers of vintage rivierie in varying lengths. Jewelry is the perfect place to mix vintage heirlooms and trendy new pieces, and to play with unique metals and gemstones. Your bridal bouquet is yet another opportunity to showcase an avant-garde style. Carry a bouquet of unconventional blooms, such as herbs, protea or air plants, or forgo florals all together and carry a bedazzled clutch purse, giant paper flower, dainty parasol, or spray of feathers. Colored shoes are not a new trend, with brides opting to use their feet as a fun way to showcase their “something blue,” but the options are endless for bridal footwear, and you are only limited by your imagination. Pick a sole in another bright and bold color, or find a shoe that has a unique shape or material such as embroidery, beads or gems. Our favorite inspiration comes from the brilliant minds of Louboutin and McQueen.

There is no reason to limit this experimental style to your attire. Everything about your big day is open to a little innovation, from your bridesmaids dresses to the food to the dÊcor. Even if you opt for a more traditional gown, there are countless other details of your wedding that can be as eclectic and avant-garde as your heart desires. The avant-garde trend may not be for everyone – some eclectic trends can dip a toe into the world of strange or even a little outlandish, but the beauty of this style is that it is striking, visually interesting, unexpected, and a representation of your daring personality. All eyes will be on you, so why not give your guests something to stare at? When it comes to weddings, tradition will always be on-trend, but adding just a little bit of imagination to your special day can set your wedding apart from the rest. The keys to this trend are originality and confidence. Don’t be afraid to step out side of the conventional wedding box and spring for something that is an expression of you and your special day, creating a memorable experience for both yourself and for your guests.

gina myers, owner of la cosa bella events created this precious DIY for a Carnival-themed wedding, but the possibilities are endless. An up-cycled artist’s canvas serves as the base for this adorable serving tray - embellished with glass marbles, ribbon and decorative paper cones filled with a treat of your choice. These cones were designed by Diane Holdsambeck of MyLadyDye.com.

1. do the prep work. Use a glue gun to adhere your coordinating ribbon to the edges of the canvas frame.

2. build your base. Measure the open space in the back of the canvas and cut a piece of 1 Styrofoam to fit inside the frame. Push small lollipop sticks into the foam, being careful not to puncture the canvas. Remove the sticks, fill the holes with hot glue, then quickly replace the sticks to help keep them in place. 1

Though they lived several states apart, fate brought Kate and Steve together after meeting at Duke Law School while Kate was in town visiting a friend. Kate went back home to New Orleans, and Steve soon followed, making this long distance love story even more special. They married on an early April day at Duke Chapel, with the soft pink cherry blossoms in full bloom. After sharing an intimate first look at the Washington Duke Inn, Kate and Steve rode together to the chapel, where the romantic ambience of white lilies and the soft tinkling of tiny bells set the stage for a lovely ceremony. The Victorian themed atmosphere of the reception at the Washington Duke Inn was brought to life with linens in shades of blush and pale green, pearl and lace overlays, large floral arrangements of hydrangea and Amaranthus, and decorative elements that included iron stands, bottle vases and antique books. The unique centerpieces included terrariums with Lilly of the Valley and hydrangea. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour and a dinner course that included Creamy Goat Cheese Stone Grits in a Trinity Gravy, followed by a Field Greens Salad and a plated dinner duet of Grilled Beef Tenderloin and Wild Striped Sea Bass in a Red Miso Broth. The couple had the chance to show off their wild side at the reception as New Orleans style music played while the newlyweds made their grand entrance, and guests danced until midnight to the sounds of the Heather Hayes Experience. Guests waved them off with personalized New Orleans handkerchiefs,

were given as favors – for an unforgettable fairytale ending.

Yasmeen and Eddie were married on a sunny day in a romantic garden setting that featured iron gates and a trellis with climbing flowers. The aisles were decorated with hydrangeas in custom hangers and cream-colored urns. The beautiful aubergine ceremony programs were accented with a coordinating button. The ceremony was full of personal touches that made it special to the couple. A classical guitarist, who was also a friend of the family, played as guests entered the ceremony. The guitarist had also played at the groom’s parents’ wedding many years earlier. Yasmeen carried the same handkerchief that her mother carried on her wedding day, and a locket featuring the couple’s engagement picture hung from her bouquet. The reception décor was as elegant as the wedding with elements that continued the fall theme and the special connection to the State Fair. Caramel apples served as escort cards, and tables featured arrangements of submerged clementines, hydrangeas and curly willow. Other decorations at the reception included a miniature Ferris wheel and a gourmet hot pretzel truck. The reception also featured an ancestry table that included photos and mementos from the wedding days of the bride and groom’s parents and grandparents, such as the bride’s mother’s wedding dress and the mother of the groom’s wedding veil. Guests also enjoyed a Brown Sugar Pound Cake – a favorite for the bride and groom – which was a special gift from the groom’s aunt.

Josh and Natalie considered several wedding venues, but ultimately dchose to get married in the same place they became engaged, at the Junius Lindsay Vineyard in the Blue Ridge Mountains.. The lush vineyard contains 11 acres of vines and open land, which was perfect for their vintage, rustic wedding theme. The color scheme of ivory, sage green, and burlap suited the pastoral landscape, and the vineyard style was reflected in the stationary, programs and menu cards. Natalie walked down the aisle surrounded by their closest family and friends in an intimate ceremony. The family-style reception took place in the vineyard’s tasting room, where the tables were decorated in white linens, burlap sashes, and pillar and votive candles. A vintage moxie cooler and ceramic chicken were displayed as a reminder of the special role that the bride’s mother served in her life. Dinner service included a four-course meal prepared by Chef Dion, and bundt cakes served on large rustic wooden platforms. A number of wines from the vineyard were paired with dinner and dessert selections. After the delicious meal, cake cutting, and a few beautiful toasts to the happy couple, guests enjoyed karaoke and dancing, serenading the couple in celebration of their new life together. 86

A Brazilian dancer performed for the bride and groom, and a mix of Brazilian and American music entertained the guests throughout the night. The bride wore a mermaid-style white gown with a lace overlay, beaded accents and dramatic back cutout. The bride’s brother escorted her down the aisle, while her father, Pastor Lenwood V. Long Sr. officiated the wedding and her mother, Mrs. Barbara Long, preformed the Charge to the Couple. Since the groom’s parents could not fly out from Brazil to attend the wedding, it was streamed live for them to watch online. Colorful flowers in shades of yellow, blue, orange and pink adorned the tables and decorated the reception space. Guests received Bem Casados (meaning “Happily Married” in portuguese), two small sponge cakes filled with dulce de leche and egg curd, individually wrapped in crepe paper and tied with a bow, with Brazilian wish bracelets tied around them. A traditional Brazilian wedding favor, the bracelets represent the couple together in their new life. They are a symbol of faith and good luck – the wishes that the happy couple will take with them and cherish for a lifetime.

A 1972 Cutlass convertable drove the bride to the top of Runnymede at Red Mountain in Rougemont, and her father escorted her down an aisle flanked by shepherd’s hooks with hanging blue mason jars filled with coral Salmanazar garden roses and berries. Guests were seated in wrought-iron chairs, and the mountainside ceremony setting featured vintage doors with billowing fabric and flowers in hanging blue mason jars, as well as vintage windows draped with coral Sweet Pea. Coral and charcoal were the chosen colors for the ceremony with light blue and chevron accents. Special bridal party guests included the couple’s dog, Charlie, who wore a grey and white chevron bowtie, and Baby Jackson, who served as ring bearer and wore a white onesie and matching grey and white chevron suspenders and bow tie. After the ceremony, guests moved to the other side of the mountaintop where they enjoyed games of corn hole and bocce, before indulging in a buffet dinner at the Tuscan-style villa. Handmade chandeliers with pops of blue and coral, and floating candles in blue mason jars provided romantic lighting for the reception. A wrought-iron bar and furniture, as well as coral linens with grey and white chevron accents, helped unite the look of the ceremony and the reception. The reception’s opening father-daughter dance broke into a surprise flash mob that included the bridal party and the bride and groom’s family. Dancing continued throughout the night until the couple made their sparkler exit into happily ever after. 94

Oliver played for both the Eagles football and baseball teams, and Shaina was on the Eagles volleyball team. After an injury left Shaina on crutches for the semester, her roommate asked Oliver if he would be willing to drive her back to her dorm. He said yes, but out of mutual shyness, the couple never managed to say more than a few words to one another. It wasn’t until the following semester, in a shared psychology class, that they started to really get to know each other, and the rest is history. Oliver and Shaina announced their wedding with extravagant engagement photos, dressed in 1940’s attire. Guests were encouraged to wear their own 40’s period garb to the wedding, and many showed up dressed in their vintage best. Shaina wore a subtle blush strapless, dropped-waist dress with a flowering skirt, while her bridesmaids donned custom strapless, ivory lace dresses created by a freelance seamstress. Their bouquets featured breathtaking white lilies and roses in ivory, pale pink and lilac. The Grand Marquis Ballroom was bedazzled in fanciful feathers, twinkling crystals and fresh flowers that brought the vintage theme to life. The couple selected luxurious feather centerpieces and lush white floral arrangements, crystal vases, candles, and a few unique accents including gold tree draped with jewels. The elegant ivory cake featured silver filigree, and a geometric art deco design, and was displayed on a silver platter, while a cupcake buffet allowed guests to indulge his or her sweet tooth. Dining and dancing ensued, and this classic wedding theme was a hit from start to finish.

forgetme-not Getting married is one of the busiest times in a bride’s life. There are literally hundreds of preparations to be made and the last thing on most brides’ minds are the details of the honeymoon. There are a few important items to put down on the must-take-care-of list. jet lag | Most people don’t think about having jet lag until they are already half way there and starting to feel the effects. Plan ahead and alter your sleep schedules accordingly to get the most out of your trip. Avoid caffeine and other stimulants which actually end up disrupting sleep rather than helping you in the long run and talk with your doctor about how to properly overcome jet lag with the latest methods. sea sickness | Nothing can ruin a great trip like nausea! Do not forget to pack your motion sickness medication and tools (wrist bands are said to work great). Even if you have never been sea sick

before, pack as if you will be, better safe than sick! passports | Passports can take weeks, even months to get, so these are top of the list if you are going out of the country. The sooner you apply, the better since some times of the year are busier than others (ie: spring and summer will obviously take longer to get your completed passport in). Remember to call ahead to find out exactly what you need to bring with you when filing for passports. cancellation policies | Whether you are making reservations for a hotel or booking a tour, find out what the cancelation policies are just in case! There is often insurance available for a few extra dollars, this can be extremely helpful in the event of rescheduling or canceling. overbooked hotels | Never, ever book the most expensive room! Go with what you can afford and when you get to the hotel, ask if the suites you originally wanted is available at a discount price. Hotels just want to make money and will likely bump you up for a few extra dollars. wm 119

the pros and cons of using pinterest for your wedding planning Pinterest is a wedding planner’s dream! The site seems to have been made for brides, planners and crafters alike, as it has page after page of ideas for flowers, table settings, gowns, hair-styles, and more. The Millennial Generation has to wonder what brides ever did without this amazing website. With a constantly refreshed feed of inspiring ideas, browsing the site and exploring ideas can become addicting, and also dangerous. Here are a few of the pros and cons of using Pinterest for your wedding planning:

“This is our favorite ever parent dance image ever. The power of this image is incredible and scenes like this always remind us while we do what we do. You can see pure love here and it is amazing to see. Always.” JulianRibinik.com

There are so many important moments to capture on your wedding day and one that is the most timeless and treasured is the father and daughter photograph. As you gaze upon the many images you will receive from your photographer after your wedding, this will be one filled with emotion and adoration. We have compiled a few of our photographers’ favorite moments from past weddings depicting this beautiful father-daughter bond.

I love this image right before the father gives his daughter away. The love between them is so evident as they take this last little second just between them. HebaSalama.com

Their faces say it all. To us, this image is so special because it’s one of those moments that mean so much, and yet happen so fast.” RevivalPhotography.com

Moments before this father was to give his beautiful daughter away, the two of them shared a moment and, while they spoke quietly and in a language I didn’t understand, the joy and happiness of the moment was easily translated. CravenCreativePhotoBlog.com

As a father escorts his little girl down the aisle, I often wonder what he must be thinking, feeling, experiencing. I imagine he pictures the first time he laid eyes on her, the one he drove to school every morning, the girl she grew up to be and the woman she is now. It is truly a magical moment to capture. madman

Stylish, retro-inspired invitations from Crafty Pie Press welcomed guests to join the “MADness” at 1705 Prime. Decorations for the venue were chosen by Kat to mirror the characters and key elements from the show, as well as memorable parts of 1960’s culture. The vintage details were combined with contemporary touches for a unique look, including a sleek 1960 Chevy Impala that transported the couple to and from the rehearsal.

Socialites of the 1950’s and 60’s knew how to enjoy a good party – maybe a little too well. Influenced by a love of the hit television series “Mad Men,” Katherine Wrenn of Posh Weddings & Events created a fun and funky rehearsal dinner styled around the world of bad boy Don Draper.

The modernized vibe began at the table settings, with geometric black and white tablecloths, yellow chargers and contrasting black and white dinnerware paired with mod black wine goblets. The dramatic centerpieces, created by Blossom Floral Artistry, were made up of lush yellow floral arrangements inside sculptural black vases. Hobnail yellow votives and lemon-colored napkins created a stylish contrast on the two-tone tables, while each setting hosted a custom menu and place card featuring each guest’s name, as well as the name of an iconic Mad Men character to carry on the theme of the event.

Frank Sinatra crooned as guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres served in “Lucky Strike” boxes – a nod to one of Draper’s biggest advertising clients. Drinks on the menu included Martinis and Old Fashioneds, served on cocktail tables donned in yellow tablecloths with black-and-white pom-pom trim.

Menu items by Rocky Top Catering were inspired by popular 1960’s fare, such as endive salad and shrimp cocktail, while a groom’s cake designed by Cake by Chloe provided a sweet conclusion to the event. The cake reflected the evening’s masculine theme, with each layer featuring a humidor with cigars, shirt and tie, and martini glasses.

The night was filled with games and fun activities, including a creative “photo booth” made out of a vintage 1960 GE television. Cut outs of the TV characters were used as props for photos and represented all of the famous “Mad Men.” The lounge area featured a selection of 1960’s board games that were available to play, as well as use as a guestbook and filled with well wishes for the happy couple. Other decorative elements were integrated throughout the space to add a touch of nostalgia, such as a yellow rotary dial phone, a Kodak brownie camera, a typewriter and fun arrangements inside white Go-Go boots. It was truly a night to remember – longer than a two-martini lunch and much more fun.

In addition to coining the foretelling phrase “15 minutes of fame, cultural icon Andy Warhol also gave the world his colorful pop art perspective that defined an era. what a party! Kristy Timberlake of Opus 1 Weddings created a custom p-ART-y invitation that nested inside a metallic petal fold pocket, topped with a velum overlay featuring the one and only Marilyn Monroe. The bundle was wrapped in a satin purple ribbon belly-band, finished with a Marilyn seal, and nestled into an envelope with its own custom pop-art envelope liner. The venue, Mark Christopher Salon, has a chic and modern décor that was the perfect complement to Joye’s design choices, which were inspired by Warhol’s most recognizable and iconic works of art. Doug Odom of the Purple Poppy Florist created the unique flower arrangements, which included distinctive blooms in vibrant shades of green, yellow, pink and orange. With the addition of fuchsia up-lighting provided by McSound Productions, the salon was bursting with color that was evocative of Warhol’s signature style.

the bachelorette party

Fabulous food and drinks helped create a festive party atmosphere that even the notorious socialite Andy Warhol would have enjoyed. Rocky Top Catering created a custom menu for the evening, drawing on the colors and eccentricity of the theme. Chef Andy first chose a dish of roasted yellow and red beets layered with goat cheese and spicy pecans, displayed in repetition – homage to a central motif of Warhol’s work. The second course was a fresh summer salad of lush berries, mandarin oranges and cranberry goat cheese, all served inside of magenta radicchio cups. Guests were styled for a fun girls’ night out by the salon’s talented staff, while enjoying shrimp ceviche shots with mango, avocado and cilantro. The final course was a delicious tuna and salmon roll with toasted sesame and carrot daikon salad, while a surprise treat of cantaloupe and watermelon sorbet with mint foam was a piece of edible art in itself. Throughout the night, the ladies made use of a “Make Your Own Cosmo” bar, which was staged with custom pop-art décor, from the labels on the mini-vodka bottles to the lining of the martini tray.

The delectable dessert bar by Brie Marrow of Cake Couture was a smorgasbord of enticing treats. Guests enjoyed fun-filled sweets including Pineapple Moscato Jello Shots, Spiced Jamaican Rum Mini Cupcakes, Limoncello Macaroons, artful Amaretto Almond Cookies, as well as colorful fruit tarts, Peach Schnapps peach cobbler, strawberry margarita parfaits, “It’s a Party” flavored cake pops, and last but not least, a color-blocked vanilla butter cake with a kaleidoscopic surprise inside. Opus 1 Weddings also created pop-art Marilyn Monroe vignettes in the purple and chartreuse color scheme to carry the theme throughout the salon. For favors, Joye was inspired by the iconic screen print series 32 Campbell’s Soup Cans, so Opus designed customized labels for the quintessential cans, which were filled to the brim with luxurious hair products from Mark Christopher Salon. The party ended with the ladies looking and feeling fabulous, ready for a night on the town to celebrate the bride’s engagement.

how to handle imposition It is the part of a wedding that no one wants to address. The intoxicated uncle, finding a place for “that” cousin, the bossy mother-in-law, and the list goes on! Here are a few helpful hints to handling those difficult situations and diverting disaster. The Drunk | Who doesn’t just love that overly exuberant guest that tends to suck the attention out of the room? Cutting these “fun” guests off at the pass is key in controlling the chaos. Assign whomever you think may have one to many a special friend to keep track and monitor how many drinks they have. Explain to this chaperone that if things do get out of hand to use any means necessary to get them away without a fight. Family Feuding | If you belong to a family, you are very aware that not everyone likes everyone else. At some point, feelings will be hurt and there will be words exchanged. So what is a bride to do? 198

Weddings Magazine

2014

It is recommended to nip any potential fights in the bud before they even have a chance to break out. Have your maid of honor or someone unrelated to your family, make “announcements” during the rehearsal dinner. This key not speaker can stress the importance of having everyone together and how important it is to the bride on her special day, a once in a lifetime event. (Emphasize the “once in a lifetime” message!) The Univited Guest | Assuming you don’t have a check point at the door, etiquette states that the decision is the brides when it comes to an uninvited guest. One or two is usually easily accommodated and not worth addressing. If these wedding crashers exceed the number of catered extras, it’s time to send the event coordinator or even-keeled groomsman over to politely inform the guests that they are welcome to stay, but are not able to feed everyone. This is another great reason to include R.S.V.P.’s in your invitation, to keep the bride happy and stress-free! wm

North Carolina is one of the few places in the world that is blessed with both ends of the geographical spectrum. On one end, we have miles and miles of gorgeous and well-preserved beaches, and on the other, we have the majestic and splendid Blue Ridge Mountains. Conventionally, when people think “Destination Wedding,” their minds are immediately drawn to a beach themed soiree with sand between their toes. Recently, however, there has been a renaissance of the “Mountain Wedding,” as North Carolina brides have headed west for a beautiful and unique matrimonial experience in the stunning High Country.
