Sparkly Sugar Moves to Ruff City

by Safia Sparkly Sugar lives with her mom, dad and her little sister named Marshmallow in Meow Candy City. In Meow Candy City, there are so many tall buildings. Everything is made of candy. Meow Candy City smells really good too. Meow Candy City is filled with cats. You can find a few other animals, like pigs, horses and more. Everyone treats each other with respect and kindness. Everyone is like a family. No one is mean.

Sparkly is famous and rich, and everybody knows her. Sparkly has very long hair. She has long claws. Sparkly’s family is extremely white,

even whiter than snow. They are really sparkly. Her family members are all celebrities. They are polite, nice and have beautiful fur. They are super pleased to live there and to be together. One day, after dinner, Sparkly’s parents called Sparkly to have a very important talk. Mom said, “I know you are not going to like this, but we are moving to another city called Ruff City. Ruff City is different from Meow Candy City. Ruff City is not made of candy. It is filled with dogs. It is really hard to find other kinds of animals. We are moving next week.” Sparkly cried, “I don’t want to move!!” Sparkly dashed to her room. Dad called, “Sparkly! Please, you have to understand this.” cried Sparkly’s dad. When Sparkly got in her room she started to cry. Sparkly’s family went to say good bye to everyone in the city. One Week Later... “Good bye, Sparkly. I hope to see you soon!” said her best friend. “Bye, come visit us.” It took one night to get to Ruff City. When Sparkly woke up, she saw a giant house. She asked her parents, “Is that our new house?” “Yes,” said Sparkly’s parents. Sparkly got out of the van and rushed into the house. She saw everything they brought there and there were new things too. She loved her new room. Everything was just perfect, sparkling in pink, purple and white.

The next day early morning, Mom said, “Did you sleep well?” “I slept fantastically!” answered Sparkly. Her little sister was still asleep. Dad came and her parents called her to the living room. “Take a seat on the couch,” said her parents. “I know you are anxious about this, but you are going to a new school tomorrow.” “I don’t want to.” “But you have to, sweetie,” said her mom. Her dad said, “It is too far for you to go to the old school.” The next day... Sparkly woke up very early in the morning. Her mom drove her to

school. When they got there, they saw a colossal building. Her mom was tearful. She murmured, “my girl grows up so fast.” Tears were coming down. Sparkly got out of the car, waved good bye to her mom, and strolled into the building. When she got in, she saw everyone staring at her because she was a different kind of animal. She was shaking. Her cheeks were rosy. A teacher came to her and introduced herself. “My name is Mrs. Brown. Are you Sparkly?” Sparkly mumbled, “Yes, I am Sparkly Sugar.” “Nice to meet you, Sparkly. I will be your teacher. I will show you your new room.” The room was enormous. Everyone froze because she looked different than everybody. Mrs. Brown said, “This is Sparkly. You need to treat her just like you want to be treated. Please be kind to her.” She took a seat, and everyone was still staring at her. She had so many things in mind. I wish they would stop staring at me, she thought. Recess At recess, she saw a big playground with so many pieces of equipment. Three girls stomped toward her. Suddenly, the puffiest girl shouted out, “I heard you are the new girl in town, Sparkly Sugar! You think you are smarter than me!”

“Who are you?” replied Sparkly. “I am Puffly. I am the richest and famous person in town because my dad is the mayor.” “Nice to meet you, Puffy,” mumbled Sparkly. “Who are you saying nice to meet you to?” She picked Sparkly up her neck. Mrs. Brown hurried to them and told Puffy, “Why are you always jealous of people?” and she sent her to the principal’s office. “Are you okay?” Mrs. Brown asked Sparkly. “I’m fine, thank you.” murmured Sparkly. “Thank you for asking.” After school Sparkly’s mom picked Sparkly up from school. When Sparkly got into the car her mom asked, “How was your first day of school?”

Sparkly mumble, “Good.” Her mom really wanted to ask questions, but Sparkly didn’t look too happy so she decided to not. When they got back home, Sparkly hurried to her room and started to cry. She heard someone knocking on her door, it sounded like her mom and dad. Sparkly softly said, “Come in.” It was her mom and dad and her little sister. Her parents said, “How was your first day of school?” She started to cry and screamed, “It was terrible!” “Calm down, Sweetie,” said her parents. “Would you give it a second chance?” “No!” blurted Sparkly. “Please,” said her parents. Sparkly picked up her little sister. “How are you doing today?” Her parents left her room and took Marshmallow with them. They said, “We will give you some time to think about it.” But Sparkly was sure that the answer is no. She took some time to think about it. Sparkly got up very early in the morning, and got dressed, brushed her teeth, and ate breakfast. Her parents said, “So are you going to give it one more chance?” “Yes,” replied Sparkly. Her Mom took her to school. When she got there, she saw a board. It said, “Swimming club, yarn ball game club, and playfetch club.” She joined all of them. She thought this was her chance to make friends. After school, Sparkly went to the swimming club. She was very bad at swimming, so everyone laughed at her. Then she went to the playfetch club. She was worse at it. At last, she went to the yarn ball game club. When she got there, she saw two girls who were with Puffy yesterday. She was so scared, but she took a deep breath and bravely entered the room. Two girls saw her. She tried to ignore them, but it was very hard. First, other people tried to play with the yarn ball, but nobody did very well. Then it was Sparkly’s turn to show how she plays with the yarn ball.

Everyone was staring at her. Everyone was thinking that she couldn’t do it. She took a deep breath and did her move. Everyone gasped. “Oh, she did it! She is the best at it!” Everyone surrounded Sparkly, even the two girls. Everyone asked, “How did you do that?” “I’ve been practicing at home for a while. Do you want me to teach you some of my moves?”, said Sparkly. “Great!”, said the teacher. “You can teach us all how to do when you come back after the vacation.” Sparkly felt so exciting. She was bursting with pride inside. She was saying inside, “Yes! This is my chance to make new friends!”. When she left class that day, the two girls followed her outside and they introduced themselves as Fluffy and Polkadotty. “Nice to meet you”, said Sparkly. “Wow! You were really good in there,”said Polkadotty. “Thank you!,” said Sparkly. “Is it okay if we try to talk to puffy?” said Fluffy. When Sparkly got home, she shouted out “I MADE TWO NEW FRIENDS, I MADE TWO NEW FRIENDS!” “Really?” said her dad. “Great! Were so proud of you!” said Mom. Suddenly the phone rang. “Its Puffy,” said Mom. “Who is that?” said dad. “Is that one of your friends?” asked Mom. “Eeeeeee…uuuuuuuuum, weeeeeeeelllllll, eeeeeeee, cccan I just have the phone please?” stuttered Sparkly. Her mom handed her the phone, and Sparkly answered it. “Polkadotty and Fluffy said that you are very nice and, uuu, well, wwwww would you like to be friends again?” asked Puffy. “Wait, I just want to ask my mom something,” Sparky replied. “Mom can I have a sleepover with three friends tonight?” asked Sparkly.

“Sure” Mom said. Sparkly went back to the phone. “Do you want to have a sleepover with Polkadotty and Fluffy today?” asked Sparkly. “We’ll be there in five minutes,” replied Puffy. Five minutes later Puffy, Fluffy and Polkadotty were over. They met Sparkly’s parents. They thought they were very nice. When Polkadotty,Fluffy, and Puffy saw Marshmallow, they exclaimed, “You have a little sister! She is so adorable.” “Do you want to play with her?” Sparkly replied. “Yes, please!” said the three of them.

When they were done playing with Marshmallow, they had dinner. After that they watched a movie, and had a pillow fight. They played a few more games. The four of them were the BFF. Sparkly thought this was not a bad city after all. Even though she misses Meow Candy City her old

friends, and the sweet candy, she loves her new life in Ruff City.
