ще один год пролетел незаметно, и вот уже Новый год и Рождество стучатся в двери. В 2014 году Пхукет развивался еще более стремительно, чем в прошлые годы. ince 1998 I have lived permanently in Phuket and watched the island change dramatically; shopping centers, road, underpasses, traffic, and the every changing face of tourism. Each year brings new visitors and different nationalities to Phuket.

The friendly nature of the Thai people welcomes all nationalities and religions, this does not happen in many countries. All they ask is to be treated with respect in their own country. Thais are also open to celebrating holidays, which are not necessarily their own, Christmas and of course New Year is celebrated widely.

ver my 10 years living in Phuket I have seen it all but one thing which we have to keep in mind is that Phuket always recovers as one of Asias Top Destinations.

This is one of the reason why I live here, Phuket has something special, lifestyle, people and natural environment, it's very relaxing, but on the other side sometimes I like to change for few days to the city, with the opening of our sister restaurant in Singapore «Alba 1836» I have the chance to switch to the city once a month, we are looking to expand also Acqua in Bangkok so this will be a nice triangle for me and switch more often between «paradise» and city which I think it's the perfect combination.

As the last year has been very successfull for Acqua I would like to continue in 2015 that way and wish everybody a happy and properous 2015 as well.

y Chinese family had moved to Phuket in 1854 from Penang, Malaysia My house, Baan Chinpracha, where I live now, was built in 1903 and located on Krabi road, and it is open to the public. This is a real slice of Phuket's history. When Baan Chinpracha was built, no tourists were coming to Phuket. I'm sure tourism is now Phuket's big earner - there is no tin mining now, but rubber is still a big money maker, so is fishing, prawn farming, pineapples, cashew nuts. I see how Phuket is changing and getting more busy and I like it.

Interview with Julian Spooner, Princess Yachts’ composite technical lead Job title Head of Composites Qualifications BSc, Yacht & Small Craft Design Solent University Resin infusion has been around since the 1940s but its popularity as a commercial production method is more recent, starting in around 2000. Around this time I was working at the Advanced Composites Manufacturing Centre. I think it is fair to say we were the main force in Resin Infusion technology in the UK. The benefits behind Resin Infusion are simple, improving both quality and performance. In terms of performance, we can now mould to the same strength using less material and so delivering a lighter product. Because we use less material, we can and do so using higher quality materials within the build process.

We are leading the competition in almost every area of Resin Infusion moulding, taking it to a whole new level of

technical ability, reliability and strength. While most yards are still using a man with a bucket and a hose to feed their infusion process, we use an innovative automated process of direct injection that exactly delivers resin to the part.

I would say we are not a GRP builder, but a composite specialist, as an aeronautic or Formula 1 manufacturer is.

The resin to fibre ratio is key. You want to use as much fibre as possible, and we pack in a lot, consolidating the fibre down within the vacuum process before introducing the right amount of resin, delivering maximum strength for minimum weight. It’s also important to point out that our process is not quicker, or cheaper – as I have said we use far higher quality materials, we just use less of them – it is simply better. For the last decade, the

composite technology ladder has traditionally seen marine manufacture at the bottom and aeronautic at the top. Our efforts and investment at Princess is changing that, with our own production methodologies being comparable in terms of technology and reliability with those which go into making a passenger plane wing, or an offshore wind turbine blade built using the same processes that we employ, for 25 years of fatigue free use in the harshest of environments.

Princess use a clear gel coat on the section of the hull below the waterline so that the even distribution of

the resin can be seen clearly. Other manufacturers usually use white gel coat for their hulls, (as Princess does above the waterline, and used to prior to resin infusion) but this makes it difficult to check quality at the time of build.

The only area that white gel coat is used (under the waterline) is the area around the bow thruster. This is because the thruster tunnel is cut in after the hull has been made, otherwise the mold cannot contain this tunnel as you would not be able to remove the hull. Once the hull lay up process is complete this tunnel is cut in and finished by hand with white gel coat.

Само слово «Сонгкран» происходит из Санскрита и значит «трансформация» или «превращение». Дни, когда Сонгкран отмечают в Таиланде, постоянны – с 13 по 15 апреля ежегодно. За несколько дней до праздника

SONGKRAN – SOAKING WET FUN ACROSS THE NATION! The Thai New Year’s is a famously watery affair and is therefore often simply called the «water festival».

ater is presumed to wash away bad luck from the previous year and replace it with good luck.

Moreover, it symbolizes cleansing and a rejuvenation of the spirit. Therefore people throw huge amounts of water on each other to celebrate Songkran.

Buddhist beliefs, ancient astrology and the solar calendar, all have contributed to the origins of «Songkran», a word derived from the Sanskrit language, and which means «transformation» or «change». However, nowadays Songkran has a fixed date from April 13-15 each year.

In the days before Songkran, special food is prepared and Thais clean their homes, symbolically expelling bad luck from the prior year and preparing for good fortune in the coming 12 months. The day usually starts off with family members visiting the temple to offer alms to the monks, receive blessings, and participate in ceremonial

prayers. Scented water is sprinkled from silver bowls onto Buddha images, and on the roots of ancient banyan trees, symbolizing blessings to the ancestors.

By midday, the streets are lined with «water warriors» armed with water guns or even hose pipes, spraying passersby or shooting at passengers on the back of pickup trucks - who counterattack by throwing buckets of icecold water at them. Since April is usually one of Thailand's hottest months, bystanders are not usually unhappy about receiving such soakings.

Here in Phuket, most Songkran activities take place in Patong, the island's party town. If you want photos, ensure that your camera is a waterproof one. And don't wear expensive clothing, because it will be susceptible to being ruined when you participate in the world's biggest water carnival!

hen you are in Phuket on Chinese New Year be prepared for noisy firecrackers, the sounds of cymbals, drums and gongs, colourful processions such as the Dragon procession, good food and local entertainment. Every year about 1.4 billion Chinese in China and an estimated 50 million ethnic Chinese around the world celebrate Chinese New Year which is also called Spring Festival in China. In Thailand it is widely celebrated in provinces with large Thai-Chinese communities, one of which is Phuket.

The date of the festival doesn't follow a fixed date as it is based on the cycles of the moon. It begins on the last day of the Chinese lunar year and ends on the 15th day of the next lunar year.

The Chinese New Year is a festival of family reunion, ancestor worship, religious rituals, feasting and thanksgiving. The main festivities for the Lunar New year are centred in Phuket town and are usually ushered in by acrobats, followed by dancers and dragons which are referred to as divine mythical creatures, bringing prosperity and good fortune. magnificent cultural and historical performances, such as Chinese opera, Kung Fu displays and folk dancing depicting Chinese traditions. Making a lot of noise with firecrackers and drumbeats is supposed to keep bad spirits away from fear of the loud noises while wearing new, red clothes symbolizes good fortune and joy for the next year.

Another custom on Chinese New Year is giving out Hongbao, red envelopes containing money. Parents give it to their children, grandparents and others as New Years gifts. For Chinese, red represents happiness, good luck and energy and wrapping money in red packets is supposed to bring blessings for the new year to the receiver.

Family members and friends exchange oranges and tangerines which are symbolic of good health, longevity as well as prosperity, success and good fortune. Chinese New Year's celebrations are a manifestation of the wealth of history and rich cultural legacy in the modern and fast moving 21st century.

Resting on a site with flat terrain in central Phuket, on a land of Loch Palm golf course, this residence has a highly distinctive triangulated form composed of two folded planes, equal in ratio in reference to the two main natural elements, that of the earth and lake. The interior is trimmed in teak paneling and granite stone, while the exterior is clad in kiln fired cement shakes. Lenz Residence has an expressly contemporary form, in line with the design statement of SODA (Thailand), directed by American-born architect Stephen O’Dell, nevertheless the design has been generated from its context, responding specifically to the landscape and Feng Shui philosophy and providing spaces that satisfy the lifestyle of its occupants and climate.
