t has long been known that people quickly get used to having good things. So it is with Phuket. Those who live on the island have long been accustomed to the yearround pleasant weather, a variety of beaches, sky-blue ocean, delicious seafood and so on. But for many people around the world, Phuket remains a cherished dream.

Brides and grooms around the globe dream of having their weddings here, with local musicians playing for the guests. It’s the perfect place for romance.

In our May issue, you will find interviews with people who prove once again that Phuket is a major point of attraction for educated and sophisticated connoisseurs from all over the world. We had a chance to talk with some of the main wedding planners on the island and they told us why Phuket is so popular among newlyweds from all over. They also shared funny stories about their experiences in organizing weddings. We also talked with a legendary DJ from New York who told us all about his impressions of the local audiences here on the island.

So stay tuned because in the future we will continue to acquaint you with the most interesting people who visit and work in Phuket. We’ll keep you up to date with their shows, exhibitions, sets, lectures and all the other things that make up the unique cultural character of our island.

Laguna Phuket International Marathon, 4 June - 5 June

The 10th "Run in Paradise" is on once again presenting runners a picture perfect course along the coast of northwest Phuket Island. Sights along the route to take in are a typical Thai village market, a rubber plantation and beach and sea views. Thousands of runners are expected once again to attend Asia's most popular family-friendly destination marathon. Events and categories this year are: Marathon, Half Marathon, 10.5 Km Run, 5 Km Walk, 2 Km Kids Run. Race Kit Collection and Last Minute Registration can be accomplished at the big marquee, Laguna Grove, close to the entrance of Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort on Friday June from 1pm to 6pm and on Saturday the 7th from 10am to 5pm.

Thanyapura PIA Open Swim League, 11 June Thanyapura PIA Open Swim League is a set of competitions hosted for International and Asian swimming clubs, teams and schools.

The event is open to youths aged 6 to 18. Entry fee is 400 Baht per person. The four dates of this 2016 competition are June 11, September 17 and November 5.

Avicii and Martin Garrix to headline Road to Ultra 2016, 11 June

The two will be joined by other big EDM names including Jauz, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Ninegod and Skinny Mark & Zuper L - a quality lineup that might just bring the event up to par with the full-scale Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

Mamasita

– Mexican in Cherngtalay

P

hilipp Seipelt, a Swiss Chef and Hotelier who spent 10 years in Mexico has finally opened his Mexican restaurant with his Thai wife Bell (5 years in Mexico) and her mother Khun Nuanchan (10 years in Mexico, although she had worked for the Shangri-La in Bangkok before heading to Mexico).

The connection doesn't stop there as new Mexican Chef Francisco Castelan first met Philipp 16 years ago in Cancun. This then is not your usual Tex-Mex American modified Mexican food it is the real thing.

The Chef is commonly called Pancho - (originally called Panchito) and started learning to cook at age 6. He opened his first restaurant at age 20 in Puebla and 5 years later formalized his training at a gastronomic school that lead to his first job at The Anderson Group- Mexico's premier Restaurant Group.

Koala - Restaurant Writer He later worked in a high quality Thai Restaurant called "the Lounge" in Cancun meeting his wife, a beautiful waitress from Thailand's north. They return to Thailand where he started working in the Chiangmai Highlands Golf and Spa Resort, before moving to Phuket and reuniting with Philipp and his wife.

Chef recently won a completion in Bangkok for his Chilli con carne- but be careful as it is very spicy, but very delicious. Everything is prepared fresh and the Guacamole is lumpy and very good. The other starter you must try is Mushrooms in Tequila- simply amazing.

We ordered repeats of both the Chilli con Carne and the Mushrooms @ 220 baht each. The signature "Mamasita Quesadilla" is a great signature dish and matches well with the Fajitas on a sizzling plate- the favourite is the Shrimp fajitas.

Small, noisy but with great service as you would expect from a family run restaurant- located just 2 doors from Siam Supper Club in Cherngtalay - next to another new restaurant called Chilli- don't get confused.

Владелец заведения 10 лет прожил в Мексике. Помимо него, Mamasita заправляют его супруга Бэлл, прожившая пять лет в Мексике и ее мать Нуанчан, у которой за плечами опыт работы в пятизвездочном отеле Shangri-La в Бангкоке и 10 лет жизни в Мексике. Само заведение небольшое и шумное, однако сервис – на высоте, каким он и должен быть в семейном ресторане. Mamasita находится в двух шагах от Siam Supper Club в Чернгтале, по-соседству с другим новым рестораном Chilli. Не перепутайте!

Bampot kitchen & bar we've just remixed our ceviche, taking a little bit more of an Asian influence and specifically looking at the classical poke from Hawai.

This dish is super fresh and so easy there's literally no cooking involved. It's so healthy, with pure protein, your daily omega hit and a few antioxidants in there too: what else are you going to eat on a super hot afternoon in Phuket?

First off, you're only as good as your produce, so use your senses at the market; smell, look, touch and taste if possible. We buy our fish from Banporn market. The rest of the ingredients are readily available on the island.

Okay, so before we start you need a clean chopping board, sharp knife and mixing bowl. It will take around 30-40 minutes to prepare. And remember to clean as you go. A clean kitchen is a happy kitchen people!

Ингредиенты 200 г филе кобии 1 очищенный помидор 1 авокадо 1 луковица фенхеля 10 г черного кунжута 5 г нори 5 г сушеного чили 5 г свежего красного чили 1 луковица лука шалот 3 зеленые луковицы 1 пучок свежей кинзы 4 лайма 1 столовая ложка текилы Don Julio или вашего любимого бренда.

Cobia Poke Ingredients: 200g Cobia fish 1 tomato ripe deseeded & peeled 1 avocado 1 bulb fennel 10g black sesame 5g ground nori seaweed 1-5g dried chili, 5g red finger chili fine diced 1 shallot or red onion fine diced 3 pieces spring onion fine sliced 20g fresh coriander rough chopped 4 limes 1 tbsp Don Julio tequila or favourite brand 2 tbsp yuzu ponzu 1 tbsp sesame oil.

And never ever, ever, ever forget: sally salt & percy pepper

Fillet your fish, remove skin, bones and sinew. Put back in the fridge to firm up for 20 minutes, it'll be much easier to cut. Once chilled and firm you want to cut into 2cm cubes.

Once cut you can put it back in the fridge to keep it fresh.

Step 2 Take your peeled and deseeded tomato and avocado and cut it into 2cm cubes. Take the fennel bulb and chop off the stems then slice either by hand or using a slicing machine aiming for very thin (1mm), transparent shavings. Then store it in ice cold water to crispen up ready for plating. Fine slice your spring onions and store in the fridge.

Так вы получаете более полное представление о том, что происходит с ингредиентами. Теперь положите филе кобии в миску и хорошенько посолите, выдавите лайм на него. В этот самый момент ваша кобиа официально начала готовиться! Добавьте все остальные специи и чили по вкусу, сдобрите это все текилой и аккуратно перемешайте. От того, на сколько времени вы оставите готовое блюдо, зависит степень его готовности и вкус. Чем больше миска простоит нетронутой, тем больше кислоты лайм отдаст рыбе. В Bampot мы обычно даем настояться блюду 3-5 минут. Перед подачей не забудьте добавить соль, перец и масло.

Step 4 So now you just place it on the plate, add the shaved fennel, some more spring onion and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Serve with a nice glass of chilled white wine, or perhaps, just drink the rest of the tequila!

Step 3 I say to my guys all the time that recipes are great but you have to taste at every step. Put the cobia in the mixing bowl and season with a good pinch of salt. Juice your limes and add to the cobia - the acid in the lime will start to cook the fish. Add all other ingredients including the tequila and gently fold together.

The chilli is totally up to you; whatever you're comfortable with.

Taste.

Okay, now you're literally cooking the fish. It's up to you.

The longer you leave it, the more the lime will break down the fish. The flavours will be quite strong initially but will mellow as the fish absorbs all the ingredients. (We leave it for around 3-5 minutes at Bampot; we like that raw texture in the middle of each piece of fish.)

Finally, taste again and adjust the salt or spice as needed.

Wedding Planners Talk About Phuket Nanya Tanthapaiboon

Phuket is a famous destination for couples from all over the world to have a dream wedding. Every girl dreams of getting married by the seaside with beautifully decorated scenery and hundreds of guests. But most of us don’t even know about the wedding planners, who are always there, backstage, creating and managing all these stunning weddings. We were lucky to talk to Phuket based wedding planners, The Wedding Bliss Thailand, and their founder, Nanya Tanthapaiboon, and asked a few questions.

HOW DID YOU START YOUR WEDDING PLANNING BUSINESS?

I wanted to be a wedding planner since I was in high school, I knew I simply could not do any other job. I also got inspiration from the movies in the 90's, like "Wedding planner" with Jennifer Lopez, or "Father of the Bride". I love all these romantic movies and I also love to decorate. I started wedding planning in Bangkok right after I graduated, but weddings in Bangkok always happen in ballroom, it’s not much fun. So I decided to move to Phuket and launch my own company with my sister.

COULD YOU EXPLAIN TO OUR READERS WHAT A WEDDING PLANNER JOB IS ABOUT?

Our job is to helping couples to create a dream wedding. We find the right venue: if they have a good budget it can be luxury villa or a 5 star hotel. After the venue is settled, we move to the wedding elements – decorations, design, menus, and entertainment. A great deal of our job is also to make sure that a bride has a stress-free wedding day.

We are there to listen to them and implement their dreams.

HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE TO PLAN AND TO PREPARE A WEDDING?

On average it takes around six to eight months. Yesterday I got a call from the groom, who just proposed to the bride and he wanted to marry her the very next day; I had to reject this one, as it was impossible. The shortest noticed we got when we still pulled off a beautiful wedding was 1 month. However, since our clients are mainly from overseas and we work on destination weddings, our couples take their time and start planning wedding in advance to make sure that they can take their holiday to come here, as well as their invited guests.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CLIENTS?

Our clients are from all over the world.

We don’t want to say they are upper class or middle class, but I would say the majority are sophisticated and well educated. We also have a lot of couples from Bangkok, Hong Kong,

and all around the world these days, because they want to have a beautiful outdoor wedding instead of traditional ballroom event in their cities.

WHAT ARE THE FAVORITE LOCATIONS FOR SUCH COUPLES HERE IN PHUKET?

I would say that properties around Kamala, Mai Khao and Natai beach are the most popular among our clients. It’s serene and private; wedding in Patong is hard to imagine, though there’re exceptions of course.

COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT SOME UNUSUAL CEREMONIES?

Once we had a 5-day IndianVietnamese wedding. During these five days we had 11 events. It was like a one-week festivity. I don’t think a lot of planners do this kind of thing here in Thailand that often.

We had to research Indian and Vietnamese wedding traditions and incorporating them to create a stylish and modern wedding, as the couple grew up in Canada. That was quite challenging for us, but also extremely interesting. №5(35) Май 2016

The traditions of the Baba Wedding are s the most valuable and beautiful cultural heritage and it has been passed down from generation to generation. Only 10 couples take part in this mass wedding.

• Karam Chand and Kartari WHAT ARE SOME WEIRD WISHES FROM YOUR CLIENTS?

Not so many, but sometimes it happens. Once an Indian groom wanted to walk with a tiger during the ceremony, but luckily changed his mind. And there was one bride, who wanted to cut their wedding cake and then send a piece of the cake to her mother in England who couldn’t attend the wedding. Of course we couldn’t make it happen, but we found a way to make mom feel closer and set a live Skype connection with her throughout the day on iPad. We have to be creative at our job!

DOES EVERY WEDDING GO AS IT WAS PLANNED OR DO YOU LOSE CONTROL SOMETIMES?

A lot of things happen backstage and we have to handle all of them.

We once had to stop a fire, it almost spread to the other property. So me and my team turned from wedding planners into firemen. At another wedding the groom fell into the swimming pool and got a serious fracture in his back, it happened right in the middle of the after party. He

spent a few weeks in hospital, but now he’s fine and happy with his wife.

HOW DO YOU SURVIVE ALL THIS STRESS?

It is said that wedding planner is the 5th most stressful job in the world, after for instance, policeman or surgeon. However, no matter how many difficulties we faced along the way, when we see the result of our work on the wedding day, it outweighs all of it. We recently came back from Destination Wedding Planner Congress in Italy, where we met Sharon Sacks, a celebrity wedding planner (she planned a wedding for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, for example), and she said that being a wedding planner is a choice. We work hard, we get tired and stressed, sometimes we think it’s too much to handle, but in the end of the day, no matter what job you do, you have to be good at it, and you have to work hard to achieve your goals. So we need to appreciate what we do, but always remember to make time for ourselves. Meditation is always a great way to get the balance.

Я хотела организовывать свадьбы еще со школы. Уже тогда я знала, что ничем другим заниматься не хочу. Меня всегда вдохновляли романтические фильмы из 90-х, и я всегда любила декорировать и улучшать пространство вокруг себя. Бизнес я начинала в Бангкоке, но там свадебные торжества ограничиваются пространством помещений, я же хотела красивых церемоний на берегу моря, поэтому перебралась на Пхукет. ЧЕМ ВЫ ЗАНИМАЕТЕСЬ В ДВУХ СЛОВАХ?

Мы ищем идеальное место для проведения свадьбы с учетом пожеланий жениха и невесты, будь то побережье, горы, водопад или шикарная вилла. Не хотелось бы говорить, что они из высшего общества, но, как правило, все они очень утонченные и образованные. У нас очень много клиентов из Бангкока и Гонконга, у себя в городах они могут устроить шикарную свадьбу, но лишь в торжественном зале. Здесь же, на Пхукете, возможностей сделать этот день незабываемым гораздо больше. КАКИЕ ЛОКАЦИИ НА ПХУКЕТЕ ОБЫЧНО ПРЕДПОЧИТАЮТ ЖЕНИХ И НЕВЕСТА?

Банг-Тао, Май-Кхао и пляж Натай. Все эти места очень спокойные. Хотя, пару раз нам доводилось устраивать свадьбы и в Патонге. ВАМ ПРИХОДИЛОСЬ УСТРАИВАТЬ НЕОБЫЧНЫЕ СВАДЬБЫ?

Перанаканская культура возникла 600 лет назад, когда китайцы стали мигрировать на Малайский полуостров. На протяжении веков Пхукет был одной из пяти точек притяжения для китайских эмигрантов наравне с Сингапуром, Мелакой, Меданом и Пенангом. В каждом новом месте они ассимилировались с местной культурой, и благодаря смешанным бракам появилось собственное уникальное китайско-малайское культурное направление.

Однажды нам пришлось организовать пятидневную вьетнамо-индийскую свадьбу для одной пары. Это недельное торжество стало для нас настоящим вызовом, пришлось много узнать о традициях этих двух культур. За пять дней мы провели 11 ивентов. Не думаю, что многие организаторы свадеб сталкивались с таким в Таиланде.

Многое происходит за кулисами, о чем никто из участников свадьбы даже не подозревает. Однажды загорелось помещение и пожар уже почти перекинулся на соседнее здание, мы с моей командой сами тушили пожар. Еще на одной свадьбе жених неудачно упал в бассейн, получил серьезную травму и несколько недель провел в больнице. К счастью, сейчас все хорошо и они счастливы с его женой. КАК ВЫ ПРЕОДОЛЕВАЕТЕ ВЕСЬ ЭТОТ СТРЕСС?

Мы только вернулись с конгресса, где узнали, что профессия организатора свадеб на пятом месте в мире по стрессовости наравне с полицейскими. Но, честно говоря, результат всегда оправдывает все трудности, с которыми нам приходится сталкиваться. На этом конгрессе мы встретили очень уважаемых профессионалов, в том числе организатора свдьбы Ким Кардашьян и Канье Уэста. Она сказала нам одну очень важную вещь. Мы должны работать, несмотря на то, чем мы занимаемся и куда идем. Мы не можем иначе. Я ведь не хочу быть бухгалтером, я хочу создавать свадьбы и это мой выбор.

HOW DID YOU START PLANNING WEDDINGS AND WHO WAS YOUR FIRST CLIENT?

I’ve been planning weddings for 10 years now. I was working in Royal Phuket Marina for Mr Gulu Lalvani, doing the sales and marketing of his properties. And then his daughter got married. It was an Indian/ Western wedding with 400 people that lasted five days. She asked me to be her wedding planner. I have been doing events all my life but I had never done weddings before that. It was a big event to start with and that’s how my career began. I realized there was a big demand for wedding planners and event organizers outside of the hotels as at that time there were only in-house planners in the hotels. So I started Luxury Events Phuket and now we produce 99% weddings.

WHO ARE YOUR CLIENTS AND WHERE ARE THEY FROM?

Because I lived in Hong Kong for many years, I have many expat and Hongkong Chinese clients. I arranged my first Chinese wedding 8 years ago and since then I have had many many referrals. All of my clients are Chinese but educated overseas so they are very westernized. They don’t want the traditional Chinese wedding in a ballroom with 10 courses. They will however do their legal registration in their own country but then head to Phuket for their "fun" wedding, always ending with guests in the pool. But actually we have clients from all over the world.

THESE ARE NOT AVERAGE PEOPLE. DO THEY HAVE ANY SPECIAL PREFERENCES?

My clients always request an ocean view, near the beach, imported flowers and international food, elegant, luxurious and fun fun fun. So we always try to change the normal wedding format to incorporate the formality of the wedding but adding in the "fun element". One example is that we give our grooms a walk in to the ceremony and we turn on really upbeat music that they can dance to.

AND THEY JUMP IN THE POOL AS WELL?

The guests always want to jump in the pool, especially the groom. They do this at almost every single wedding.

DO YOU REMEMBER ANY CRAZY THINGS ABOUT THE HUNDRED OF WEDDINGS YOU’VE PLANNED SO FAR?

We did a wedding in Samui and one side of the family were from Papua New Guinea. One of the customs at a wedding in Papua New Guinea is bring a baby pig as a gift. So we found a baby pig for that wedding. But it’s not something weird, it was their tradition.

WHERE DO YOU ORGANIZE THE WEDDINGS?

We produce most of our weddings in private villas as we have the space, the privacy and the guests can party until late, at least 2am. As mentioned already our clients request ocean, sand and sunsets. However all of the brides do not want to be in the sand on the beach, but overlooking the sand, so their Jimmy Choos are not in the sand.

WHAT ARE WEDDING TRENDS NOW?

My brides and grooms follow trends but they really have their own style. At the moment there is a big trend for greenery in everything, more of a rustic elegance.

Chandeliers are always popular. Our brides most popular wedding dresses are Vera Wang, Zuhair Murad, Pronovias, Monique Lhuillier and Oscar de la Renta dresses.

DO UNPREDICTABLE THINGS HAPPEN? AND HOW DO YOU MANAGE WITH THE DIFFICULTIES?

On the day of the wedding, if you something does not go to plan, we have to find a solution and make a decision on behalf of the client. Sometimes details have to be changed because at the wedding venue it may not look the same as it did on paper.

I remember once the flowers arrived with the wrong pink color, a day before the wedding. The flower team went to every farm around Thailand to get me the right colour.

До Пхукета я много лет жила в Гонконге, многие мои клиенты оттуда. Это и экспаты, и китайцы. Свою первую китайскую свадьбу я провела восемь лет назад, оттуда тянутся многие другие клиенты. Это очень образованные люди, учившиеся в Европе и Америке. Им не хочется жениться в торжественном зале, где им подадут по 10 блюд. Разумеется, они регистрируют брак на родине, но после этого им хочется веселья и прыжков в бассейн. За этим они и приезжают на Пхукет. Тем не менее, наши клиенты живут по всему миру. СУДЯ ПО ВСЕМУ, ЭТО НЕЗАУРЯДНЫЕ ЛЮДИ. А КАКИЕ-ТО НЕОБЫЧНЫЕ ПОЖЕЛАНИЯ У НИХ БЫВАЮТ?

На свадьбе всегда кто-нибудь хочет прыгнуть в бассейн, особенно, жених. Женихи делают это почти каждую свадьбу. ПОМНИТЕ ЛИ ВЫ КАКИЕ-ЛИБО СУМАСШЕДШИЕ ПОСТУПКИ ВО ВРЕМЯ СВАДЬБЫ?

Мы устраивали свадьбу на Самуи и семья одного из новобрачных была из Папуа - Новой Гвинеи, где есть традиция дарить на свадьбу поросенка. Так что нам пришлось найти поросенка специально для этой свадьбы. Но вряд ли это можно назвать сумасшедшим поступком, поскольку это дань традиции. А ЧТО НАСЧЕТ МОДНЫХ СВАДЕБНЫХ ТРЕНДОВ?

Мои невесты и женихи следят за трендами, но у них есть свой стиль. Сейчас очень модно все зеленое - в тренде простота. Тем не менее, очень популярны люстры. Что касается платьев, то наши невесты предпочитают платья от Vera Wang, Zuhair Murad, Pronovias, Monique Lhuillier и Oscar de la Renta. ВО ВРЕМЯ СВАДЕБ БЫВАЮТ СБОИ, КОГДА ЧТО-ТО ИДЕТ НЕ ТАК? И КАК ВЫ СПРАВЛЯЕТЕСЬ С ЭТИМ СТРЕССОМ?

Если в день свадьбы что-то идет не так, мы должны найти решение проблемы, не впутывая в нее клиента. Иногда небольшие детали необходимо подкорректировать. Я помню, как один раз пришли цветы не того оттенка розового. Это случилось за день до свадьбы. Цветочной компании пришлось обойти буквально все фермы в Таиланде, чтобы получить в итоге те цветы, которые были нам нужны изначально.

The Legendary DJ Mohamed Moretta Lays it Down for RL Phuket

The interview by Phuket-based DJ, songwriter and Pop Idol finalist Zoey Jones

Mohamed Moretta , started DJing before it was cool, back in the 70's, but no matter when you were born – the 60's, 70's or 90's, even the naughties, you will know his music for sure. He worked with legendary Grammy winners Kool & The Gang by creating their very first 12 inch record of the massive hit "Get Down on It" in the 80's and he also claimed to have written the latest dance hit "Gotta Let You Go" currently climbing the charts. Mohamed recently played in Phuket and RL were lucky enough to have a chance to talk to the legendary musician.

COULD YOU PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO THOSE WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR MUSIC?

You definitely know my music. I was an international DJ before the internet era. And therefore when I came out of retirement to do music again, my manager, who became my wife, decided that I was not going to compete on that level – to try and get a bunch of facebook likes. It's important but what's most important is the content of what you do, the quality of music and what you bring.

HOW DID YOU START YOUR CAREER IN DJING?

I've been a professional DJ on the radio for 42 years. I started in the nightclubs in 1977 and I made my first record in 1982. It was a remix of a famous song by Kool & The Gang called ‘Get down on it', which the whole world knows. When I

came back into the music business with Olfa (my manager - wife) we decided to go back to my roots. So this time around I reproduced the record and I’m the lead vocalist.

I am the one that's singing "Get down on it". It's a version where we take the classic that you know and love and mix it with the sound of today. We made it relatable to the younger generation without alienating the original fans. I also perform my own version of "Celebration" The only song ever recorded that is actually more popular than "Happy birthday". It was just inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Jay-Z, Beyonce, Beatles, Rolling Stones – none of them have a song that is more popular than "Happy Birthday".

Gang and his wife Sakinah, created a partnership in the concept called "Just Kool" We do the Official K&TG After Parties around the world. The word Cool is something that everybody knows.. So our business together "Just Kool" is based on leveraging his popularity and the brand Kool & The Gang while creating ancillary products such as Le Kool Champagne and Ladies Night Perfume. Germany and Holland, where it began. 22 years later, on their end of the year countdown 2015, BBC Radio 1 played a new edit of my song done by a couple of guys called BICEP. It became the number 2 record in the world. And again, it shows that classics never die. It's all about a great song . You'll see people dancing to this song in the clubs all over the world, even tough guys. And they're singing this song with their shirts off, going crazy like it was a brand new record.

I wrote a song 22 years ago called ‘I gotta let you go’. It took me 15 minutes to write it.

And 22 years later, just this past end of the year, BBC Radio 1 showed a new edit of this song done by a group of guys called BICEP, it became a number 2 record in the world.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE DESTINATION TO PERFORM?

Jamaiсa. Absolutely. You are not cool until you play in Jamaica. As far as I'm concerned, The Jamaicans are the toughest audience on Earth. If they don't like you, they stone you. They pick up rocks and throw them on stage. If they like you they take out guns and and shoot up in the air. I have been fortunate to have performed in Jamaica several times and I must say it's a humbling experience. It's extreme but sometimes you need to be humbled. As for me I was very lucky and didn’t get stoned.

HOW DID THIS AUDIENCE ACT? DID THEY LIKE YOU?

I'll tell you one story. Right before I went onstage inbfront of 7000 people in Ocho Rios, DJ Kool G told me: "By the way Mohamed, I tried to play house music earlier and nobody danced. If I were you I'd be very careful". And I was like, Oh my God, I gotta get on after Waggy Tee and play house music right after he played "Boom Bye Bye" by Buju Barton (the #1 record in Jamaica at the time) 4 times in a row. I'm gonna get shot! Luckily I had White Label Test Pressings four records that I will never forget and that were not house records. It was Kris Cross "Jump" Ft Super Cat, House of Pain "Jump Around", and a couple of other remixes they never heard. So I played these songs for 30 minutes, same four songs. And the crowd went nuts! I'm telling this to let you know, sometimes DJs get upset if the owner is unhappy because they’re not playing the right music for the crowd. To me that’s not a problem.

I love Phuket. No one's getting shot.

What I enjoyed the most about playing in Dream yesterday, there was a 1 year old girl by the pool, she was dancing and she slipped and almost broke her neck but she got right back up and started dancing again. So if I can make a 1 year old dance and a 90 year old dance, then there's nothing to worry about in between.

I don't want to tell you all my secrets but there are two things I'm focused on while performing. I focus on the ladies, make sure that they are happy and then I look at the toughest guy in the room, he guy who is too cool to dance. And then when I make him smile and dance, the party's started.

American jazz, R&B, soul, funk and disco group, originally formed in 1964 as the Jazziacs based in Jersey City, New Jersey.

They went through several musical phases during their recording career, starting out with a purist jazz sound, then funk and R&B, progressing to a smooth pop-funk ensemble, and in the post-millennium creating music with a modern, electropop sound. They have sold over 70 million albums worldwide.

• "Get Down on It" is a 1981

song by Kool & The Gang. It was originally recorded on the album Something Special in 1981. The song reached number 10 on the Billboard charts in early 1982. The song entered the UK charts on 19 December 1981 on the record label De-Lite and reached number 3, their highest charting hit in the UK at that time. It spent a total of 12 weeks in the charts. Ten years later, it was re-released in the UK charts on the Mercury label but only charted for one week at number 69. This song was sampled by Snoop Dogg in "We Just Wanna Party with You" (1997) for the Men in Black soundtrack.

Мохамед Моретта занялся музыкой почти полвека назад, но, тем не менее, его творчество знакомо многим, независимо от года рождения. Дело в том, что Моретта работал с легендарными лауреатами Grammy Kool & The Gang над их суперхитом «Get Down On It» и другими треками команды, завоевавшими популярность по всему миру. Сейчас Моретта гастролирует по всему миру с сольными концертами, а недавно побывал на Пхукете. Нам посчастливилось пообщаться с живой легендой танцевальной музыки.

Перед выступлением ко мне подошел другой диджей и сказал: «Знаешь, Мохамед, я пытался ставить им хаус, но никто не танцевал. Так что на твоем месте я был бы очень осторожен». Я тогда очень перепугался. Я же хаус-диджей и мне выходить на сцену, думал они меня убьют! К счастью, у меня было четыре пластинки не хаус-музыки. Я помню их, как сейчас - трек «Jump» Kriss Cross, «Jump Around» группы House of Pain и еще пара ремиксов. Я ставил эти четыре трека по кругу в течение всего своего сета. И публика просто сходила с ума. Я это все к тому, что если уж выступаешь где-то, то делай это для людей. Я не испытываю уважения к диджеям, которые выходят на сцену с заготовленными заранее треками, записанными в том же порядке, что и на 20 предыдущих своих выступлениях.

Я тогда очень перепугался. Я же хаус-диджей и мне выходить на сцену, думал они меня убьют!

Я обожаю Пхукет. Никто не стреляет. Что мне больше всего понравилось вчера во время выступления в Dream Beach Club, так это годовалая девочка, которая танцевала от души у бассейна, она даже свалилась в него, но потом выбралась и с новой силой продолжила танцы. Если уж ей понравилась моя музыка, то переживать вообще не о чем. Я бы не хотел раскрывать вам все свои секреты, но во время выступления я всегда фокусируюсь на двух вещах. Первое – это женщины, как только я убедился, что женщины довольны, я нахожу в толпе самого угрюмого парня, который думает, что слишком крут, чтобы танцевать. И как только я вижу, что он тоже улыбается и танцует, я понимаю, что вечеринка удалась.

Sailing Races

huket is famous for its colorful regattas, such as the Kings Cup, Bay Regatta, Cape Panwa Race week, and Multihull Solutions. These striking competitions have sailors from all around the world preparing throughout the whole year. However, only sailors in the know are aware of the other smaller regattas on the island. Every two weeks, on Sundays, in the Phuket Yacht Club in Chalong, local regattas are arranged. These regattas aren't just reserved for the professionals, amateurs can have a go too.

Our RL Magazine editor was lucky enough to participate in one of these regattas in the Gokova Sailing school team, on a catamaran named Galeforce. There were 10 teams in total, each competing in its own class multihull (catamaran) and monohull (yacht).

Below are a few fun facts related to Phuket's sailing industry that we learned from the experience.

• Phuket has four major

marinas - Yacht Heaven, Ao Por Grand Marina, Boat Lagoon and the Royal Phuket Marina. All of them are excellent bases for exploring the Andaman Sea.

• Phuket will soon get two

new marinas. One marina will be constructed in Paklok (Kung Bay Marina), the other in the seedling (Asian Marina). The Marina in Paklok will be able to hold super yachts.

• The biggest regatta in Asia -

the King's Cup Regatta - is held in Phuket in the winter. The competition started in 1987 as an event dedicated to the birthday of The King of Thailand.

Being an avid yachtsman, the Thai monarch and his family still protect the regatta and are also huge supporters of the development of sailing in the region.

Средний ежегодный рост цен на Пхукете в сегменте элитной недвижимости составляет 5%. Владение недвижимостью обеспечивает вам как минимум доход с аренды. В то же время, все связанные с обслуживанием и арендой вопросы будет решать управляющая компания, находящаяся на территории объекта. Теперь давайте считать: если покупать виллу Sugar на стадии строительства, то на второй год ее стоимость возрастет более чем на 15%, и это не считая разницы в рыночной цене.
