ell, we’re at the halfway mark of August and already it’s shaping up to be a pretty tumultuous month for Phuket. Events, parties, weather; you name it, we have it in spades. Let’s start with all this crazy weather. So far Phuket has had its fair share of heavy storms this month, with a lot of damage around the island. Further abroad, more storms have been brewing. With dark clouds looming overhead it can be easy to see things in a darker way than usual but hey, as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. In the month ahead there are going to be plenty of parties and festivals in Phuket to brighten up everyone’s spirits. The Full Moon Party at the Xana Beach Club will still be going ahead on the 29th and 30th and there are a number of other more family friendly festivals happening around the island throughout the month, too many to mention here. With so many vibrant things going on in Phuket during August, the stormy weather from earlier in the month will soon be nothing more than a vague memory. We look forward to seeing your bright, sunny faces around the island. Play safe and all the best.

В этом месяце на Пхукете было несколько сильных штормов, которые принесли серьезные повреждения на острове и вокруг него. Кроме того, из Тихого океана могут прийти еще бОльшие бури, уже сейчас темные облака надо головой выглядят угрожающе. Но как говорится, нет худа без добра – в этом месяце ожидается куча классных вечеринок и фестивалей, способных поднять настроение обитателям Пхукета. Full Moon Party по-прежнему будет проходить в Xana Beach Club 29-го и 30-го числа. Также на острове ожидается ряд других, более семейных, мероприятий. Их так много, что просто невозможно упомянуть все. Грядущие яркие события, безусловно, затмят природные катаклизмы, от которых не останется ничего, кроме смутных воспоминаний. Мы с нетерпением хотим увидеть на острове ваши сияющие и солнечные лица. Берегите себя и все будет хорошо.

Over the years I have been asked this question many times. In the early years it was easy, but as I started to appreciate life and food my answer changed. In many ways this question is often linked to the condemned Ian Lancaster man, sitting in a prison cell and served by jail wardens. But if this was your last meal, there are probably 3 things you would want Ambience.
Whether it is the view, the history, the lighting, table setting or comfirt of chairs, it all is part of the ambience. Now add the company you are with whether family, friends or your partner. It is the setting and atmosphere. In Europe many restaurants are in the basement so no view although many have tables in the street so you can watch the world go by
Food and Drink.
Most of us don't have the time or inclination to eat a degustation menu every day. Sometimes it may be just a toasted ham and tomato sandwich or fish and salad. The key is fresh ingredients where the food is cooked as it should be and hopefully served hot. Molecular cooking is very creative and old techniques like Sous Vide are all the rage, but most of us want fresh appropriately cooked food
Service.
I have been in places where the service was terrible, yet had great fun because those serving me were joking and having fun at my expense. We normally take service to be seamless, yet attentive, your needs are anticipated yet the staff are in the background. There are probably over 2,000 restaurants in Phuket but you will find yourself going back to places where you are recognized, feel important and they know what you probably want to eat and drink. It can make you feel special and you are more likely to forgive errors and mistakes
So what are my favourite places in Phuket Tony's Seafood on the Beach at Laguna - sand
9th Floor in Patong - A Menu of 113 items so something for between your toes, hear the waves, watch the sunset and basic but everyone from Swiss to Thai. Service second to none under Swiss really fresh seafood. One of the few beach restaurants left and a Manager Thomas and over 50% of diners are regulars haunt for many locals on the north side of the island Acqua in Kalim - Chef Alessandro has been recognized as Beach House in Kata - Been an institution for 20 years. one of the 20 best chefs in Asia and he has won Iron Chef Thailand. Great service and a large wine selection although I joke it is often Again right on the Beach, service very good and you can watch a too expensive for me. A place where you don't have to order off the great sunset menu once you get to know the Chef Two tips
Always leave the tip in cash so your servers get the tip and don't just add it to your credit card bill. If you like a place, become a regular and get to know the manager, chef and serving staff. You'll be surprised how much it improves your experience and treatment over time.

На протяжении многих лет я задаю себе этот вопрос, и чем больше с годами я ценю жизнь и еду, тем сильнее меняется ответ. По понятным причинам этот вопрос сразу вызывает ассоциацию с камерой смертника, ожидающего свой последний ужин перед казнью. В общем, если это ваш последний прием пищи, важны три вещи: Обстановка
Еда и напитки
Обслуживание
Важно все – вид, история места, освещение, расположение стола и стульев, все это является частью атмосферы. Теперь добавьте друзей или семью. Это главное для правильного настроя. В Европе многие рестораны находятся в подвале, и имеют лишь несколько столиков на улице, соответственно, видом насладиться не получится.
Большинство из нас не имеют ни времени, ни желания дегустировать новые блюда каждый день. Часто наш прием пищи состоит из сэндвича с ветчиной, или салата с рыбой. Ключ ко всему – даже в простой еде ингридиенты должны быть свежими, и если блюду следует быть горячим – оно должно подаваться горячим. Всякие новомодные течения типа молекулярной кухни – это очень креативно и здорово, но большинству из нас хочется простой понятной свежей пищи.
Я был в местах, где обслуживали ужасно, но мне было очень весело, потому что официанты шутили и смеялись вместе со мной. Обычно на службу нанимают вышколенный бесшумный персонал, способный работать незаметно и предупредительно. На Пхукете более 2000 ресторанов с отличным обслуживанием, но вы вновь и вновь будете возвращаться в место, где чувствуете себя своим, особенным и важным, где знают, какие блюда и напитки вы предпочитаете. За это вы будете готовы простить мелкие ошибки.

Пропускать песок между пальцев, слушать прибой, наблюдать закат и наслажаться свежайшими морепродуктами – это место стало любимым пристанищем для жителей северной части острова.

Шеф-повар этого ресторана Алессандро был признан одним из 20 лучших шеф-поваров Азии и он выиграл Iron Chef Таиланд. Отличный сервис и большой выбор вин, хотя зачастую они слишком дороги для меня. Место, где вы не должны заказывать по меню, а лучше спросить совета у шеф-повара.
В меню 113 пунктов, так что для каждого найдется что-то по душе, от швейцарца до тайца. Здесь работает непревзойденный управляющий швейцарец Томас, большинство посетителей являются постоянными.

И напоследок, два небольших совета: 1. Всегда оставляйте чаевые наличными, и тогда с вашей кредитки их не спишут. 2. Если вам нравится место, ходите сюда регулярно, узнайте как зовут менеджера, шеф-повара и обслуживающий персонал. Вы будете удивлены, насколько это поменяет отношение к вам.

The Garden In The Third Heaven Phuket’s Trisara is a unique resort. Guests have included royalty, sports stars, politicians and showbiz stars. It is a fully Thai-owned project, with no international investment. This is perhaps why it is so different and why it attracts such guests to experience the best that Thailand can offer. We met with Kittisak Pattamasaevi, VP of Sales & Marketing of Trisara’s owners, Montara Hospitality and asked him to tell us Trisara’s secrets. When did the hotel open?
Eleven years ago, right before the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004.
What was the vision behind the project?
My father Narong Pattamasaevi, Chairman of Montara Hospitality and two friends designed and created Trisara. There was Mom Tri M.L. Tridosyuth Devakula with his expertise in architecture, and Anthony Lark who was general manager of Amanpuri for many years, plus the financial expertise of my father. All of this was essential. It was a trio of people with fine business acumen.
Why was the name Trisara chosen?
Trisara means "Garden in the Third Heaven". The name is reflected in the landscape of Trisara, with its surrounding gardens. It's a perfect environment. Some of the villas have 360-degree views. It seems like they are floating in heaven, looking out across beautiful gardens. I think the name fits perfectly.
Can you tell me more about the architect?
As I mentioned earlier the master plan came from Mom Tri. I would say the most distinctive element is the rooflines at Trisara. They are unique yet typically Thai. They are simple and elegant, and Thai-inspired.
How many people are there in your team? And what makes Trisara stand out from the rest?
There are about 400 staff in the resort with around 100 guest on average. This four-toone ratio allows us to deliver personalized, tailored service to our guests. Each villa has an ocean view. They are all pool villas and at least 10 meters apart from each other. It’s very luxurious and very private. I think such things really make a difference.
Do you have a symbol of luck?
I think the number 3 is our lucky symbol. Everything that comes in threes is complete, and lucky for me. Like a family, for example, that usually starts with three people. Or take the Montara tree: the leaves [Montara’s logo] come in threes. So for me the number 3 is definitely a symbol of luck in my life.
Trisara is very green. How was this achieved?
Right from the beginning we respected nature, so when we built the resort we removed all the existing trees and took them to our tree nursery in the middle of the island. After construction was complete, we put them back. Even in the cafeteria you can still see a big old tree right in the middle. In addition, we use reusable glass bottles [for drinking water], not plastic, and we collect rain water to use on our gardens. www.reallifephuket.com

What is the Trisara Academy?
The Academy is about education. There we train and evaluate our staff in order to continually raise standards within the company. We also offer courses for expatriates who can come and join us on a regular base. And we have special events with outside lecturers, sometimes combined with a dinner or a cocktail party.
How do guests get to know about Trisara?
Mostly it’s by word of mouth from our own guests, from travel agents and so on. Now, of course, we have Tripadvisor and online videos, but word of mouth is the most important promotional tool a luxury resort like Trisara can have. We also have a lot of repeat guests.
What kind of celebrities have stayed at the resort?
We have had a variety of celebrities. [Footballer] David Silva, [tennis player] Maria Sharapova, [actor] Kevin Bacon, [model] Kate Moss and [US presidential hopeful] Hillary Clinton are just a few I can mention.
Why did you decide to manage Trisara yourselves rather than getting an international chain to do it?
We had a pure vision, with each and every unit representing the perfect villa experience. Having 39 hotel villas at least 10 meters apart from each other was the main reason we decided that being independent was better.
What is your perfect day?
I like kayaking or snorkeling on the sea. Also, I love to read. Unfortunately, when I am in Phuket, I don’t get much free time.

What is your favorite food?
I really like the local yellow egg noodles. But in general my favorite cuisine is Japanese.
Who is your favorite fashion designer?
Ralph Lauren is an example. He’s not too loud yet he’s colorful at the same time.
Your favorite movie star?
George Clooney seems like a good guy all round. Not much gossip – I like that.
What kind of music do you like?
I love jazz the most, particularly Buddy Rich, who was a famous drummer – very fast, an amazing drummer for jazz. Jazz is not strictly structured. There’s room for improvisation and the drummer gives it direction. That’s why I like jazz.
What do you value most in terms of people skills? Honesty, definitely. That’s the most important for me.
If you had to live on a desert island what’s the one thing would you take with you? My phone – haha – it’s very important for me to be connected.
What is the girl of your dreams like?
Someone who is honest about herself – no pretending or putting on an act – that’s the thing I find most attractive about a girl.
Do you have a life credo?
Maximizing your potential and giving it your best in every way. You should always try to do your best in everything you do. That’s the most important thing.

Trisara – уникальный курорт. В нем все пропитано аристократической роскошью. Здесь останавливаются мировые звезды спорта, политики и шоу-бизнеса. Это исключительно тайский проект, которому удалось завоевать мировую славу. Мы встретились с Киттисаком Паттамасаеви, вице-президентом по продажам и маркетингу компании Montara Hospitality, и узнали, чем отличается Trisara от конкурентов, и в чем ее главный секрет.
Когда открылся ваш отель?
Он открылcя 11 лет назад незадолго перед цунами в 2004 году.
Что стояло за его открытием?
Мой отец и два его друга разработали особое видение проекта Trisara. Мом Три – эксперт в области архитектуры, а Энтони Ларк имел опыт в проекте Amanpuri, у моего отца большой финансовый опыт – все это в совокупности с хорошими деловыми качествами способствовало тому, чтобы открыть Trisara.
Почему вы выбрали имя Trisara?
Если переводить буквально, – это сад на третьем небе. Это отлично отражено в ландшафтном дизайне территории Trisara. Пространство, действительно, идеально. Некоторые виллы имеют обзор на 360 градусов, и кажется, что они плывут в небе, глядя на прекрасные сады. Я думаю, что это название подходит идеально.
Можете ли вы рассказать больше об архитектуре Trisara? Как я уже говорил, генеральный план разработал Мом Три. Все самые знаковые детали придумал именно он. Они уникальны и в то же время просты, и навеяны элегантной тайской архитектурой.
Сколько человек в вашей команде, и что отличает ваши виллы от других?
На 100 гостей приходится примерно 400 сотрудников, это соотношение позволяет создать персонализированный сервис, заточенный под индивидуальные нужды наших гостей. Каждая вилла имеет вид на океан и личный бассейн, расстояние между виллами составляет не меньше 10 метров. Таким образом, каждая вилла имеет роскошную приватную территорию. Это, действительно, важно.
Ваш символ удачи?
Я думаю, что это число 3. Все, что приходит в количестве трех раз, является полным и счастливым для меня. Семья, например, как правило, начинается с 3-х человек. Букет из листьев дерева Монтара тоже составляют из трех штук. Так что для меня номер 3, безусловно, символ удачи.
Виллы Trisara имеют очень зеленую территорию, как вам это удалось?
Мы с самого начала уважали окружающую природу и строили курорт, используя существующие деревья, не вырубая их, а лишь перенося в питомник на время строительства. После завершения строительства мы вернули их на прежние места. Также мы используем емкости для сохранения дождевой воды, чтобы поливать наши растения.

Это образовательный проект. Мы обучаем и повышаем квалификацию нашего персонала, чтобы они трудились над развитием нашей компании. Кроме того, мы предлагаем курсы для экспатов, которые могут работать с нами на постоянной основе. Мы регулярно проводим семинары и мастер-классы, которые с радостью объединяем с обедом или коктейлями.
Как люди узнают об этом райском месте?
Обычно, от друзей или туристических агентств, а теперь и из Trip Advisor. Но мы считаем, что самым важным источником рекламы являются рекомендации друзей.

Какие знаменитости останавливались в вашем отеле?
Множество знаменитостей гостили у нас: Давид Сильва, Мария Шарапова, Кевин Бэйкон, Кейт Мосс и многие-многие другие.
Почему вы создали свой собственный бренд и не стали работать по франчайзингу с мировыми сетями?
Мы решили быть уникальными, и создали отель, состоящий из отдельных блоков: 39 вилл на расстоянии 10 метров друг от друга, потому что мы решили, что приватность важнее всего.
Чем вы любите заниматься в свободное время?
Я люблю ходить в море на каяках и увлекаюсь подводным плаванием. Кроме того обожаю читать. К сожалению, на Пхукете у меня не так много свободного времени.

he Navetta 28 is recognisable from the unmistakable exterior profile and the panoramic dining area with round glass sliding Martin Holmes doors which allow for great flexibility in the use of the upper deck. The large sunbathing area is a comfortable private deck, which on request can be fitted with a Jacuzzi tub and awning. On the main deck, a continuous window goes from stern to bow, while below deck there are four innovative hull windows at the level of the guest cabins, installed for the first time on the market, with "invisible" portholes glued onto the glass itself. The real cuttingedge innovation is in the stern area. The Dual Mode Transom (DMT), a Ferretti Group patent, combines in a single system a floodable garage, a diving platform and a spacious Beach Club, actually the
largest ever on yacht models this size. When guests walk into the salon, they are welcomed by a large, carefully structured open space. Starboard you have the galley, towards the bow, you reach the area reserved to the ship owner with a large bathroom. Below deck you have four guest cabins, three of which with double beds (the two stern cabins can have twin beds), all of them with en-suite head. As for powering, the twin MAN V8 engines at 1.200 mhp allow for a top speed of 16 knots and 13,5 cruise speed. As standard the yacht is fitted with underway electro-hydraulic fins for navigation and gyro stabilisers. Korean Cosmetics Have Hit The International Market

few years ago French pharmacy brands were the buzzword in beauty, now though, as we look ever further afield for the next fix, Korean products are the bandwagon to jump on. Fuelled by beauty bloggers and the ease of international shipping, the craze is going mainstream as Korean masques you may find worldwide. So what does the world of double cleansing, serums and scary-looking masque sheets have to offer? Koreans are taught the importance of moisturising, exfoliating, using sunscreen religiously at an early age as well as the technique in which to apply these products. Skincare is part of their culture seldom seen as a chore but something to look forward to. That's not to say things are clinical though, quite the opposite says Anna-Marie Solowij, beauty journalist: "What I love about Korean brands is the creativity, the product names and the packaging. To Westerners, all the products seem a bit crazy and that's a major part of their appeal." Sheet masks, which are soaked with active ingredients, meaning that skin absorbs all the goodness, similar to collagen and green tea extract - rather than it evaporating away. Boasting great results at largely affordable prices, it's clear to see why Korean brands are taking off with budget-conscious, beauty-loving westerners.

What music genre does your style best represent?
I don’t believe in framing music. You know, categorizing it according to any genre. It’s just too limiting. But I suppose that most people see me as a house music DJ. And yet, there are bits of electro house … It comes down to how I feel at that particular moment.

How do you decide what record you’re going to play at a gig? Do you have criteria for it? Well, no. Playing music has nothing to do with my mind, but with my heart, I guess. I play what I feel like will be a perfect record at a particular time. It’s nothing predetermined or preplanned. There’s no reason for playing a certain record, just pure emotion I guess. I just follow my heart.
What are some of the challenges that DJing brings? What makes you so into DJing? And what are some of the differences between it and let’s say music production?
Tough questions. The ones that I keep asking myself each day. And I still don’t know the answer. The best way I can describe it is that it’s a passion. It’s not logical and it doesn’t answer any questions. My music is the way for people to feel my emotions, I guess. I want to offer people something new, something they haven’t heard before. And that they can still dance to and feel happy. As I play many records that are outside so called electronic genre, I don’t always know how people are going to receive it. It’s not really mainstream so it can go either way. Which is why I need to be really careful about what I’m doing. And this is why it’s fun, you know. It makes me go outside my comfort zone. And on the plus side, it’s different. I hope people can recognize it as such. Today, anyone can become a DJ. But to be a great one, I don’t think you need only to practice, you also need to be brave. And have a great taste, of course. You need to be brave enough to play something new and confident enough that people will like it. And of course you need to challenge them.
Technology has been given a bad name when it comes to DJing simply because there are too many out there pressing the play button and calling it DJing. What do you think? How does technology influence DJing? How does it change the way you DJ?
The most important part about being a DJ is that you need to have a great taste and get people interested in what you are playing. How you do it, are you using computers, cassettes or reel-to-reel, in the end it doesn’t matter. Those are just mediums. Music is what counts.
Do people know how complex DJing is? Do they know how to appreciate it, even if they have no idea what it all requires? It comes down to the place and people you are playing for. I mean, some people only want to party, and that’s all. But then again there are people who know the music; they purposefully come to hear something new. The bottom line is that it’s a scene, it comes in one package and there’s no way you can separate one from the other, I guess.
How can a DJ turn music into a new experience? How do you turn it into something more than a few great records string together?
I want to create something that will make me happy as well as the clubbers I’m playing for. And do it for the entire set, rather than for ten or fifteen minutes. And it also needs to be interesting. I know there are DJs that play just one type of music during the whole set, but that’s just not what I’m about. I personally think that DJs should mix and match, make it fun and above all interesting.
What’s one button you enjoy pressing the most? It has to be, of course, PLAY.

К какому музыкальному жанру лучше всего отнести ваш стиль? Я считаю, что музыку нельзя загонять в какие-то рамки. Знаете, относить в категории или жанры. Зачем эти ограничения? Но, наверное, для большинства людей я ди-джей, который играет хаус. Плюс еще немножко электро-хаус… Все зависит от настроения в конкретный момент.
От чего зависит выбор треков во время выступления? Есть ли какие-то критерии, по которым вы их отбираете? Пожалуй, нет. Моя музыка – это не то, что идет от головы – это все скорее от сердца. Я играю те треки, которые, по моим ощущениям, лучше всего подходят под конкретный момент. Это не определяется и не планируется заранее. Никаких особенных причин ставить тот или иной трек у меня не бывает – это всегда чисто эмоциональный выбор. Я просто слушаю, что подсказывает мне сердце.
В чем трудность «работы» ди-джеем? Что вас так привлекает в этом занятии? И в чем разница между ди-джейской деятельностью и, скажем, продюсированием музыки? Непростой вопрос. Я его себе каждый день задаю. И до сих пор не знаю ответа. Лучше всего, наверное, сказать, что это страсть. Это не что-то логическое, никаких ответов на вопросы мое занятие не дает. Моя музыка – это способ передать людям мои эмоции, чтобы они их почувствовали. Я хочу предложить людям что-то новое, чего они никогда раньше не слышали. И чтобы при этом они могли танцевать и чувствовать радость. Так как я играю много разной музыки, которая часть выходит за рамки так называемого электронного жанра, я не всегда знаю, как люди ее воспримут. Это не совсем мейнстрим, поэтому она может как понравиться, так и нет. Поэтому мне нужно действовать очень аккуратно. Но в этом-то и кайф, знаете. Это постоянно заставляет меня выходить из своей зоны комфорта. Еще один плюс – это не похоже ни на что. Надеюсь, люди с этим согласятся. Сегодня ди-джеем может стать любой. Но чтобы стать действительно классным, одной практики мало – нужна еще и смелость. Ну и отличный вкус, конечно. Нужно быть смелым, чтобы играть что-то новое, и быть уверенным, что людям это понравится. И, разумеется, нужно бросать людям определенный вызов.
Технологии, когда речь идет о ди-джеинге, - понятие почти ругательное: слишком много вокруг любителей нажать на кнопку «плей» и гордо называть себя «ди-джеями». Что вы думаете по этому поводу? Как технология влияет на ди-джейскую деятельность? Как она меняет ваш личный труд? Самое важное в ди-джейской деятельности – это отличный вкус и умение заинтересовать людей тем, что ты играешь. И в конечном итоге совершенно неважно, какими способами вы этого достигаете – с помощью компьютера, кассетника или же на бобинах. Это просто средства. По-настоящему все решает музыка.
А люди вообще понимают, насколько сложно быть ди-джеем? Они умеют это ценить, даже если не осознают до конца, какой труд за этим стоит? Все зависит о того, в каком месте и для каких людей ты играешь. Кто-то пришел просто потусить и все. Но есть и те, кто разбираются в музыке, они приходят с конкретной целью услышать что-то новенькое. Это все равно всегда сцена, и одно от другого отделить невозможно, наверное.
Каким образом ди-джей может превратить музыку в совершенно новое приключение? Как вы превращаете это в нечто большее, чем просто в проигрыш нескольких отличных треков друг за другом? Я всегда стремлюсь создать что-то, что принесет радость и мне, и всей клубной публике, для которой я играю. И чтобы это ощущение царило на площадке весь сет, а не только минут десять-пятнадцать. Плюс, всем должно быть интересно. Я знаю, есть ди-джеи, которые на протяжении всего сета играют треки только какого-то одного типа – это не моя тема. Я считаю, ди-джей должен уметь смешивать и сочетать разную музыку, чтобы было и весело, и, что самое главное, интересно.

olor is one of the most vital aspects to consider when designing an interior. It sets the tone and influences the mood. The colors you choose in paint, fabrics and carpets not only affect the atmosphere, but can also be used to create clever optical illusions. A room can be made to appear smaller or larger, and architectural features can be reduced or enlarged. For a feeling of airy spaciousness, match the walls to the floors, using pale, cool colors. For a dramatic effect, use dark colors on the ceiling and walls down to dado height and paint the lower half of the wall in a color to match the floor. For a cozy atmosphere, use the lighter color on the ceiling and a darker color on the walls. To make a room appear wider, use a lighter tone of the ceiling color on the walls. Many property buyers ask this question but only few know where to turn for the answer. Real Life in Phuket magazine talked to Catherine Morel to draw a practicable success story out of her.

orn in the city of Ghent (Belgium), Catherine Morel had travelled all over the globe before finally settling down in Phuket in 2004. Neither South Africa nor Europe felt like home for her but the Western coast of Phuket enchanted the woman at first sight. Initially she expected her Villa Baan Phu Prana to be nothing more than a private family house, but quite soon Catherine found that nearly every other day she has guest visiting her. That is how Baan Phu Prana naturally developed into a boutique hotel still retaining all the charm and privacy of a real home. And if you wonder about the main secret of her hotel's success, here it is. "People tend to be in the circle of their close ones, people tend to privacy. Nobody wants to be in the middle of the crowd", - Catherine says. Baan Phu Prana has only half a dozen of rooms with one maid per room, plus a professional chef supervising the kitchen and Catherine as manager, host and sommelier. When asked about specific ingredients of success Catherine does not reveal much, emphasizing that "everything is obvious". Indeed, Baan Phu Prana is all about learning what one expects from a luxury tropical vacation and fulfilling these expectations to the utmost: gorgeous infinity pool with panoramic views of the Andaman sunsets, sauna, spa, yoga, massage, a huge collection of movies and books, haute cuisine by a celebrity chef from Sheraton and more. Catherine admits that having only 7 rooms constrains her a little, but increasing the number and turning Baan Phu Prana into a full scale resort can ruin the charm of privacy, so a dozen of rooms is the limit. Этим вопросом задаются многие покупатели недвижимости на Пхукете, но не многие знают, где искать примеры. Журнал Real Life in Phuket побеседовал с Кэтрин Морел и выведал ее секрет успеха.

этрин Морел – уроженка бельгийского города Гент и хозяйка бутик-отеля Villa Baan Phu Prana. Перед тем, как остановиться в Таиланде, она побывала во множестве стран, но ни Европа, ни Южная Африка на роль дома не подошли. Зато западное побережье Пхукета приглянулось ей сразу. Изначально виллу бельгийка строила для себя, но очень скоро оказалось, что без гостей в доме не обходится ни один день. В итоге вилла стала бутик-отелем, не растеряв при этом приватной атмосферы. Именно этот момент и обеспечил популярность Villa Baan Phu Prana. «Люди тянутся к узкому кругу знакомых, к камерной обстановке. Быть в толпе не хочет никто», – признает Кэтрин. В ее бутик-отеле – всего полдюжины номеров. Штат сотрудников – по одному человеку на каждый номер. Отдельно – шеф-повар, отвечающий за обеды и ужины, и сама Кэтрин – радушная хозяйка и главный сомелье. Говоря о других слагающих успеха, Кэтрин старательно делает вид, что все очевидно. Действительно, никаких особых развлечений гостям хозяйка не предлагает, зато все, что может быть нужно для тропического отдыха, в Baan Phru Prana есть. Панорамный вид на закат, роскошный бассейн, сауна, спа, массаж и йога, огромная коллекция книг и кинофильмов, кухня, которой заведует мастер, проработавший 16 лет в сети Sheraton. Кэтрин рассказывает, что в рамках 7 номеров ей уже тесно, но и превращать дом в полноценную гостиницу она не планирует, опасаясь растерять шарм приватного отдыха. Две дюжины номеров – максимальная планка. А в дополнение к ним – новый бассейн, площадка для петанка, сигарный зал, полноценная библиотека. Благо пространство позволяет. Семейная атмосфера – это то, чем Кэтрин не пожертвует никогда.

"Please, have a look at the sunset and then at the sculptures over there", - says Catherine explaining that it would have been impossible to reach true harmony elsewise. Putting her success secret in a nutshell is not easy for Catherine if ever possible. But if we dare the list will definitely include the atmosphere of privacy, ultimate quality and guests able to treasure it.

I was born in a little village near the beautiful town Ghent in Belgium. I grew up there with my parents and two younger brothers. At 19 I finished school where architecture was my main subject. Very strange it took me more than 30 years to really profit from those studies. I started my own business, a direct mailing company. It was hard work, long days, with up and downs but at the end it paid off. About 50 people were working with me and we became one of the biggest direct mail companies in Belgium. At that moment I sold the company. That's another story. Many Belgium people go to Turkey on holiday, just like me. Less than ten years ago I invested in a Turkish building company. Although I am not a builder, I loved it. I don't care how a wall is built, I am interested in the result, the quality.
What was behind your decision to set up a business in Phuket?
I fell in love with Thailand a long time ago. I used to come on holiday. I like the Thai way of life, although it's sometimes difficult for a westerner to understand. At a certain moment I had the opportunity to join a company that owned some land here in Bangtao and Surin. I liked it because it is close to the beach and at the same time in the middle of green. It was never my intention to build something like Diamond Condominium but being an entrepreneur and my positive experience in Turkey started me thinking.

Что стояло за вашим решением открыть бизнес на Пукете? Я влюбился в Таиланд много лет назад.
